Platypus Craft Lifestyle Edition

The Platypus line consists of multiple vessels that can cruise above or below the water, including the entry-level Sanctuary model, the elegant Yacht Edition, and a robust Tourer variant. Each design features a sleek catamaran-style hull and a “basket” that can be lowered into the water. The basket is outfitted with six seats and easy-to-use breathing devices, meaning seafarers can explore the underwater world without needing diving certifications.

The Yacht Edition craft will be equipped with twin Evoy Breeze outboards that can produce 120 horses. The electric motors are not only emissions-free, but also eliminate fuel slicks, bilge water, and noise to prevent any disruption to the surrounding marine environment. The cat can sail across the waves at a cruising speed of 15 knots or a top speed of 25 knots and travel underwater at a more leisurely pace of between three and five knots. It is also fitted with two 63 kW batteries that afford between 30 and 80 nautical miles of range, as well as a dedicated diving battery pack that provides between six and 12 hours of underwater autonomy.

“By combining Evoy’s powerful electric motor systems and Platypus Craft’s innovative concept, it’s possible to explore nature without impacting it,” explained Evoy cofounder and CEO Leif Stavøstrand. “Together, we will create unforgettable and environmentally friendly experiences.”

evoy and platypus’ semi-submersible boat with catamaran hulls glides above and underwater

Semi-submersible boat with catamaran hulls and electric motors.

Platypus Craft and Evoy team up to produce the former’s semi-submersible concept boats with catamaran hulls. The catch here is that the water vehicle contains a ‘basket,’ or movable part of the boat, that the pilot can lower below the water surface. In this way, up to five passengers can enjoy under-the-sea gazing without actually diving into the water. To let them breathe under the sea, the basket comes with six air tanks, facial masks from ocean reefs, which are similar to diving masks, and oil-less Nardi Compressori compressors for breathing air.

Platypus Craft says they’ve already launched a prototype in the Mediterranean, equipped with two Evoy’s electric motor systems named Twin Outboard Breeze that can give over 240 horsepower. This motor also has two 63-kilowatt batteries that can deliver a top speed of 25 knots and a cruising speed of 15 knots above water. With the basket lowered, the semi-submersible boat can travel between three and five knots, so the passengers can enjoy looking at the marine life at a glacial pace for around 30 to 80 nautical miles. Platypus expects to deploy the twin Evoy Outboard Breeze, 120+ horsepower each electric motor, in their Yacht Edition craft on water in early 2025.

Platypus craft and evoy to unveil semi-submersible boat in 2025

The semi-submersible concept boat of Platypus Craft has catamaran hulls, which help lower the basket easily. At the same time, the setup creates ample space on board, so passengers can still walk around the water vehicle. The boat company has yet to clarify if there’s a barrier encasing it or if it’s open. What’s clear is that the rear has enough space to double as a diving board, in case the passengers want to swim during the break.

It’s here too, where Evoy’s electric motor systems are, propelling the semi-submersible concept boat. The motor company says that its electric systems have zero emissions, which can help reduce pollution as well as fuel slicks and bilge water. Electric motors are dubbed to be quiet too and may not disrupt marine life as they cruise since they cut down noise pollution above and below the water. As of publishing the story, the two companies continue to develop their semi-submersible boat from concept to real-life model, with early 2025 as the target year for its launch.

The luxury yachting world has a new and unusual addition after the 146m/479ft semi-submersible expedition mega yacht OK was successfully launched earlier this month.

Top features of 146m Karmarine explorer yacht:

  • Tennis Court
  • Host 46m/151ft sailing yacht
  • Host seaplane
  • Up to 70 water toys
  • 40-tonne crane for tenders & toys
  • Alfresco cinema
  • Botanical gardens
  • 4 aquariums
  • Indoor swimming pool
  • 20 guests overnight
  • Exterior design by Timur Bosca
  • Builder Karmarine

Turkish shipyard Karmarine has spent the last three years converting the 1982-built transportation ship SUPER SERVANT 3, originally built by Japanese shipyard Oshima Shipbuilding, into a semi-submersible conversion designed with a tennis court on the 32m/105ft-beam main deck and capable of carrying a wealth of water toys and larger vehicles.

A car ramp allows vehicles to be driven straight on board, while motor and sailing vessels can manoeuvre on board from the water when the aft deck is semi-submerged. This is achieved by taking on ballast, which is later ejected to return the deck back above the waterline. Current plans for the 3,000m2/32291ft2 deck space include hosting a 46m/151ft sailing yacht and a seaplane, while the 40-tonne crane will launch and retrieve the tenders and water toys.

This exterior redesign concept was by Timur Bozca, who won Young Designer of the Year 2015 and was envisioned as a ‘floating island’ without losing the original lines altogether.

In addition to the massive main deck which can be used as a tennis court when cleared, M/Y OK has an alfresco cinema, botanical gardens, four aquariums and an indoor swimming pool surrounded on all sides by windows for spectacular views and an abundance of natural light.

Platypus Swordfish: New Semi-Submersible Trimaran

' src=

Here’s something new from Platypus Craft, a French company: The Platypus Swordfish, a 40-knot, 29’ 5” boat that has a submersible pod so you and half a dozen others can enjoy underwater views anywhere in the world.

The boat will be built by a subsidiary of L2 Concepts in Antibes that has worked on other submersible projects. It can be ordered with twin gas outboards, or eco-friendly all-electric power.

The Swordfish looks like a trimaran; its central hull is connected to the two outer hulls by arms. But push a button, and the central hull drops 6’ 5” under the surface. Passengers do not need an air tank. Air compressors provide air to them when the submersible pod is underwater.

The boat will be built with a composite construction using aluminum framing, fiberglass and carbon fiber laminates. The central pod is water ballasted and air sealed.

The gas version comes with two 100-hp outboards for a top speed of 34 knots, or two 200-hp outboards, for a top speed of 40 knots. The electric version will have two separate 12V battery packs with a 900 amp total and an eight-hour battery life.

The “yacht edition” of the Platypus Swordfish comes with a leather cockpit, carbon dash, double air compressor with six hoses, and four submersible high-power lights.

The first boat is expected to be built in 2022.

Specs.: LOA: 29’5”; Beam: 9’6”; Draft: 1’3”, surface mode, or 5’9” submersible mode; Disp.: 4,960 lbs.; Fuel: NA; Water: NA; Power: 2×100-hp or 2×200-hp gas engines or electric. Read more:

DYT takes delivery of world’s largest purpose-built yacht transport vessel

by Mariska Buitendijk | Jan 19, 2022 | News , Project cargo , Ship design , Shipbuilding , Yachts

semi submersible yacht

DYT Superyacht Transport has added the purpose-built semi-submersible yacht transport vessel Yacht Servant to its fleet. In addition to being thirty per cent larger than its sistership Yacht Express and being Tier III compliant, it only requires an operating water depth of 9 metres using a unique float-on, float-off system.

The official delivery took place on 4 January at Yantai CIMC Raffles Shipyard on China’s Shandong Peninsula. Three days later, the vessel embarked on its maiden voyage from Shanghai to Panama.

With a length over all of 213.70 metres, a 46-metre beam and a 4.6-metre draught, the Yacht Servant provides virtually double the capacity of its predecessors. The IMO Tier III compliant vessel is also 32 per cent more fuel efficient, while its 6380 m2 deck space facilitates the transport of more vessels per crossing.

Reduced operating water depth

It has a lower deck height, which means the ballast time (therefore port time) is significantly reduced. It also means it can carry yachts with deeper draught and enter ports with shallower waters. It is equipped with two spud poles for quick mooring, and has electricity and water facilities for onboard yachts.

Whereas the current vessels in DYT’s semi-submersible fleet require operating water depths of around 14 metres, Yacht Servant only requires an operating water depth of 9 metres using a unique float-on, float-off system. Yacht Servant’s new specialised deck located behind the bridge built to accommodate tenders, containers and small race boats offers extra flexibility.

‘We’re all hugely excited about the addition of Yacht Servant to our semi-submersible fleet,’ says Richard Klabbers, Managing Director of DYT Superyacht Transport . ‘Her sheer size and volume allow for so much more capacity, and we’re looking forward to discovering how the vessel’s additional capabilities – such as onboard cranes, reduced board draft and increased submerged draft – will further what we can deliver.’

Fleet of three yacht transport vessels

On completion of its 2022 maiden voyage, Yacht Servant will return to China to transport cargo to Colombia during the yachting off season, before arriving in the Caribbean in May to commence its sailing schedule between Florida, the Caribbean and the Mediterranean.

‘Last year was a challenge for the entire yacht transportation industry, with lockdowns and global uncertainties affecting travel the world over,’ adds Klabbers. ‘But our order books for 2022 are already encouragingly healthy, and with Yacht Servant now bringing our DYT fleet total to three vessels, we’ve made a hugely promising start to the new year.’

DYT was formerly known as Dockwise Yacht Transport and is a member of the Spliethoff Group. The design of the Yacht Servant was conceived in-house by the Spliethoff Group.

M/V Yacht Express

Meet the yacht express.

The launch of Yacht Express on January 19th, 2007, was a significant milestone in developing the yacht transport and delivery industry, and DYT (formerly known as Dockwise) was proud to be at the forefront of it.

Yacht Express is semi-submersible and offers our unique float-on/float-off loading method. It has an impressive length of 209 meters (685.7 ft) and a beam of 32.2 meters (106 ft). Your yacht is safely accommodated between spray covers in the docking bay, which measures 165 meters (541 ft) long and 31 meters (102 ft) wide. With a deck space of 5,115 square meters (55,060 ft), DYT can transport many yachts in one voyage.

This sophisticated yacht delivery vessel is designed to have a service speed of 18 knots, meaning that a trans-Atlantic voyage from the Mediterranean to Florida/Caribbean with this ultra-modern yacht carrier will be significantly reduced from 10 to 15 days! Owners can enjoy the advantage of extra onboard riders accompanying the yacht during the voyage and enjoy our state-of-the-art facilities.

The loading process involves the carrier taking on ballast water until the main deck is submerged to a critical depth that allows the yachts to sail aboard. When all the yachts are loaded, divers are dispatched to attach temporary supports to keep the boats elevated as the ballast is released. The ballast water is then pumped out, bringing the carrier back above the waterline. When the carrier deck is dry, the yachts are then welded to specially designed seaworthy fastenings to maintain them safely for transportation.

Exclusive: Semi-Submersible Vessel Transforms Into 146m Expedition Yacht

By Danny Wiser

OK, the 146m global expedition yacht, has been launched at Karmarine Shipyard in Turkey.

The expedition motor yacht was initially delivered in 1982 as a semi-submersible support yacht named AS Super Servant 3 before her recent refit.

Her incredible conversion process has led to a particularly striking design thanks to studio Bozca Design.

Designer Timur Bozca was delighted to have the chance to work alongside the shipyard in his home country.

He said: “ Working with people with extraordinary vision is a factor that gives me great pleasure.

“In this way, we are given the opportunity to push our limits. The Karmarine team completely meets this definition .”

The yacht can accommodate 70 different toys such as a 46m sailing yacht, tenders, buggies, amphibious vehicles and a sea plane, making her any fun-seeking adult’s dream.

Loading toys and tenders onto the yacht could not be easier thanks to her ability to submerge with almost 70% of herself under water.

This submerging capacity, gives her the appearance of an island, a feature requested by her owner.

“ The idea of a floating island belongs to the owner. We aimed to create the unique feelings of being on an undiscovered island at OK ,” said Bozca.

With exceptional features, such as sun deck Jacuzzi, pool surrounded by glass windows, outdoor cinema, tennis court, botanical garden and four large aquariums there is endless entertainment on OK.

"We aimed to create the unique feelings of being on an undiscovered island at OK." Designer, Timur Bozca

146m semi-submersible conversion with a tennis court launched at Karmarine Shipyard

Related articles, superyacht directory.

A 146 metre semi-submersible expedition yacht has hit the water in Turkey after a three-year conversion at the Karmarine Shipyard.

The unusual vessel started life in 1982 as a yacht transportation ship named Super Servant 3 built by Japanese commercial shipbuilder Oshima Shipbuilding. The converted ship will now cruise under the name OK with a redesigned exterior courtesy of designer and 2015 Young Designer of the Year award-winner Timur Bozca .

"The vision was to create a floating island concept that could hold many toys - even a seaplane or another superyacht - without breaking the powerful outlines of the previous version," said Bozca.

The design features over 3,000 square metres of open deck space with plenty of storage for tenders, buggies, amphibious vehicles and can even host a 46 metre sailing yacht. A car ramp allows land vehicles to be driven onto the deck while seafaring vessels can sail straight on board thanks to the yacht's ability to submerge the aft platform. The vessel takes on water ballast to allow the load to be floated over the deck; once in position, the ballast is jettisoned and the ship's deck and cargo return to sitting above the waterline. Smaller toys and tenders can be launched and recovered via a 40-tonne crane.

Other highlights of OK include an indoor swimming pool surrounded by glass windows, an outdoor cinema setup, a botanical garden and four aquariums. Plus, once the aft deck is cleared the space can serve as an open-air tennis court on the water.

Accommodation for guests and crew can be found in the forward portion of the yacht's structure and can sleep a total of 20 guests. "Maximum comfort" was one of the design priorities, according to Bozca.

Platypus Swordfish: This semi-submersible yacht offers amazing underwater views

  • Electric boats
  • Top stories

New French company Platypus Craft has developed a 40ft concept that combines a planing dayboat with a semi-submersible passenger pod.

Designed by company founder François-Alexandre Bertrand and L2 Concepts, the Platypus Swordfish can house up to eight passengers in its submersible glass pod.

Both petrol- hybrid and all-electric versions are proposed with a claimed maximum speed of up to 50 knots in surface mode but no more than 12 knots with the pod submerged.

When in planing mode, the pod acts as an additional planing surface creating a stable trimaran design with a 12ft beam, but when in submerged mode the mother vessel effectively becomes a displacement catamaran. Deploying the pod is said to take just a few seconds.

The company claims it is close to signing deals with several clients from the USA and the Gulf states and hopes to start construction of the first Swordfish in early 2021.

The composite construction relies on aluminium framing and FRP and carbonfibre laminates. The pod itself is water-ballasted and air-sealed.

The build partner is a subsidiary of L2 Concepts with a factory in Antibes that builds concept cars and crucially has already worked on a couple of successful submersible projects, most notably the Aurora for American firm Seamagine.

The quoted price for turning the Swordfish concept into a fully functioning customer boat is €3.8m – steep for a 40ft sportscruiser , but priceless in terms of novelty value.

Karamine completes refit of semi-submersible support ship

semi submersible yacht

The refit of 146m (479ft) semi-submersible support yacht, OK has been completed by Turkish-based Karmarine Shipyard. Built back in 1982 by Oshima Shipbuilding and originally named AS Super Servant 3, the vessel is now back on the water as an expedition motor yacht.

The vessel has a beam of 32m and exterior design styled by Bozca Design. The aft deck is the biggest feature on the vessel sized at 3,300sqm. In her previous life, OK was used as a ship to transport yachts, hence the large open flat deck.

Post-refit Karmarine can now provide storage room for 70 different toys, including a 46m sailing yacht, multiple tenders, buggies, amphibious vehicles and a sea plane. However, the deck can also be fully submerged. This ability to submerge allows OK to carry a wide range of tenders and toys removing them directly from the water.

Karmarine improved the strength of the superstructure so OK can handle both stern and side loading.

Away from the deck OK also features a glass-wrapped sun deck jacuzzi, an outdoor cinema, a tennis court and a botanic garden. She also features four large aquariums, a car ramp, a 40t crane and a vertical wind turbine.

OK can accommodate up to 20 guests across its staterooms, each with a panoramic 360-degree view.

DYT Superyacht Transport announces delivery of 214m Yacht Servant

The new edition to the dyt fleet is the world’s largest purpose-built semi-submersible transport vessel….

Image for article DYT Superyacht Transport announces delivery of 214m Yacht Servant

The official delivery took place at the Yantai CIMC Raffles Shipyard on China’s Shandong Peninsula, and it has subsequently embarked on its maiden voyage from Shanghai to Panama. Along with its 214m LOA, it has a beam of 46m and a 4.6m draft. According to a statement to the media, Yacht Servent is IMO Tier-III compliant, with a 30% increase in deck space compared to its sister ship - Yacht Express.

“We’re all hugely excited about the addition of Yacht Servant to our semi-submersible fleet,” says Richard Klabbers, Managing Director of DYT Superyacht Transport. “Her sheer size and volume allow for so much more capacity, and we’re looking forward to discovering how the vessel’s additional capabilities – such as onboard cranes, reduced board draft and increased submerged draft – will further what we can deliver.”

In a further explanation of the key features, the statement clarifies that Yacht Servent will use a float on/float system in a minimum of nine meters of water, compared to 14m across the rest of the DYT fleet; the safest and most efficient system for vessel loading, according to DYT. Additionally, Yacht Servent has a specialised deck located behind the bridge, built to accommodate tenders, containers and small race boats.

After completing its maiden voyage, Yacht Servent will return to China to transport cargo to Colombia during the yachting offseason, before arriving in the Caribbean in May to commence her sailing schedule between Florida, the Caribbean and the Mediterranean.

“Last year was a challenge for the entire yacht transportation industry, with lockdowns and global uncertainties affecting travel the world over,” concludes Klabbers. “But our order books for 2022 are already encouragingly healthy, and with Yacht Servent now bringing our DYT fleet total to three vessels, we’ve made a hugely promising start to the new year.”
