-You will be required to cook for both the crew of 3 as well as the guests who are massive foodies! When it comes to their preferences, they like fine dining so having a Michelin/high-end restaurant background would ideally be required. 

-The owners enjoy a variety of things when it comes to food, with the vessel also being a charter – we are looking for someone who has a broad cuisine knowledge. 

-Whilst your focus will mainly be on cooking, you may be required to lend a hand in other areas from time to time – for example, setting the table etc. This said, housekeeping and most service will mainly be done by the Deck/Stew. 

-The vessel will be cruising around St Vincent and Grenadines. The owners are really keen to push the charter side of things and already have bookings for this winter. 

-The salary on offer is depending on experience but is extremely competitive for this size of vessel. The owners want a top Chef and so they are happy to invest in their team!

– The leave will be 60 days.

-Brand new galley space that is open, with all new equipment and a healthy budget to get additional things if needed.

European / Mediterranean Superyacht Season

Europe and more specifically, the Mediterranean is the most populated sea in the yachting world and is busiest during the summer months (April – September). The Mediterranean Sea is the body of water that separates Europe, Africa and Asia and is connected to the Atlantic Ocean by a narrow passage called the Straits of Gibraltar. The Med has amazing infrastructure, shipyards, marinas and yachting services and is therefore also a very popular place for yachts and crew to remain during winter months.

Finding a Superyacht Job in Europe / The Med:

The best time of the year to find a job is either side of the season, directly before or immediately after. Boats generally tend to crew up for the Mediterranean season in April and May and they may then hire crew again before crossing to their next seasonal destination, the most popular of which, is the Caribbean and usually occurs in September-November. Many vessels will base themselves in the south of France, Italy and Spain. Antibes and Palma de Mallorca are therefore the most common places for crew to base themselves and find jobs.

Cruising in the Med:

The Med is mostly surrounded by land which is one of the many factors that make it an ideal cruising area for yachts. It is generally well-protected, is non-tidal and boasts crystal clear water and some of the best beaches in the world. Additionally, Europe is rich in culture and a Mediterranean season will involve stopping off at some of the greatest cities in the world. As a crew member, time off will be limited in the summer months, however, you are likely to be fortunate enough to briefly experience a few of the amazing cities and attractions that Europe has to offer. Whether its partying in Ibiza, exploring the French Riviera, enjoying a beach bar in Greece or wandering the streets of Turkey and Croatia, you are sure to have an amazing time with any downtime you may get in Europe.

As a crew member, the job varies slightly in the Med compared to other seasonal destinations. In the summer months Europe experiences long hours of daylight and the sun can set as late as 21h30. Guests therefore (generally) tend to be slower in the morning and to go to bed later. It is also common to spend many nights in port as guests want to experience the vibrant cultures, cities and ports and often eat ashore. The type of guests you have onboard in Europe may also vary, unlike areas such as the Caribbean, South Pacific, etc. where guests are most likely on board to get away from other yachts and enjoy nature and activities like diving, snorkelling and fishing. The Mediterranean lacks marine life and is densely populated with yachts. The guests tend to prefer a higher level of service here and the deck crew can expect countless tender runs to and from shore.

Winter Months:

The med season begins to slow down in September. Many yacht crew members are hired on a seasonal basis and their employment contracts will come to an end. Others will prepare to take the vessel to their next seasonal destination and some may remain on board the yacht for a winter yard (maintenance) period. There is a lot of crew turnover during this stage of the year and is a good time to find employment.

If you are employed on a yacht that remains in Europe for the winter, your work will vary greatly from the summer months. There is a good chance the boat will be hauled out the water onto the dry dock at some stage as well (possibly for the whole period, depending on the scope of work to be done). It is highly unlikely you will have guests on board and everything will be covered and stowed away for the winter months. The yacht will undergo maintenance and alterations during this period. It is a very busy time for engineers who will focus on scheduled maintenance, repairing breakages and faults that may have occurred during the season, and making improvements to onboard machinery and systems. The deck department will focus on maintenance (varnishing, polishing, painting) as well as inventory and season orders. The interior will focus on inventories, stain treatments, ordering, polishing and deep cleaning.

The off-season is also a good time to train and rest crew. It is likely that hours will be 08:00 – 17:00 and that you will have weekends off, provided you are not on watch. The winter months can be an amazing experience for crew members if you enjoy the colder, wetter weather. There tends to be a more relaxed atmosphere on board with ‘normal’ work hours in place and more downtime. Having weekends off allows you to explore the area you are in, or even possibly take a few days off for a skiing trip. It will also provide deck and engine room crew members with invaluable yard experience, which will stand them in good stead for their careers.

Visas and Legal Requirements:

Visa requirements vary depending on your nationality and role on board. Schengen visas are necessary for all non-European and non-British crew. It can be obtained from the embassy of your first point of entry into Europe and allows you to move freely between all the European countries that form part of the Schengen area. However, the amount of days you are allowed in the Schengen area varies depending on your nationality, contract, yacht policies etc.

It is common for Schengen visa holders to be stamped onto the vessel and out of the Schengen zone to freeze their allocation of days in Europe. In this instance crew will not be allowed to leave the area in which the yacht is located. It is therefore essential to ensure that you consult with your captain/yacht agent or visa specialists to ensure you have the correct visas, are working legally and know your restrictions.

For knowing the best time to find a yacht job and start yachting in the Med it is important to understand when the best season for finding work is. To find work on Super yachts, In the guide Yachtiecarers will list the top 10 best months to start Yachting in the Med and show you why you will have an advantage starting at this time.

Best time to start Yachting in Mediterranean

Firstly, to become yacht crew and find work on superyachts it is important to understand that the Mediterranean is the yachting hotspot of the world. (With some competition with Florida/Caribbean). This means that although the season might consist of high and low seasons, you will always be able to fnd yacht jobs and apply for yacht crew jobs to work as a Stewardess or Deckhand on Yacht in the Med. It does not matter what month of the year it is, as yachts in the Med will always be looking for crew.

Where to find yacht jobs in the Med ?

The Mediterranean yacht crew locations consist of a large area and is not limited to just south of France. In recent years many yachts have started relocating both for winter maintenance and summer charter yacht crew season to yachting hotspots such as Croatia, Montenegro and Turkey.  The entire Mediterranean consist of the following yachting locations for yacht crew and the best time to start yachting:

• Palma , Ibiza, Menorca
• South of France
• Winter locations such as Germany and Netherlands

How long is the med-season for yacht crew?

  To work on yachts in the Mediterranean the best and most busy time with peak high-season is June-August.  However, to find Yacht jobs applications start sooner and already from March-May is recruiting season, peaking in April/May.

The actual Yachting season for yacht crew in the Med is becoming longer and longer and it is now starting April and ending October for yacht crew jobs.

October- April is usually a winter maintenance period and although it is not season, there will be many jobs around for yacht crew and finding your first Stewardess or Deckhand position on a super yacht. This is because many crew are leaving for holiday or a different job and many positions open up during the winter period.

Let us dive in and see what each month has to offer for finding the best time to find a yacht job in the Mediterranean. Here is a complete guide to becoming yacht crew in Europe and a yacht crew guide to the yacht Mediterranean season in Europe.

Top 10 months for best time to start Yachting

This list will surprise many yacht crew, but with years of recruiting for deckhands and stewardess position we have seen the success rate of candidates and how easy it can be to find yacht crew jobs at the right time.

10. Best time to find a Yacht job in the Med – February

February is number 10 on our list. This month is usually full swing with winter maintenance jobs and yachts are just starting to look for crew for the upcoming Med-season but not quite yet. It might be excellent for daywork as Yacht might need help with winter maintenance jobs and you can build you experience.

Yachtiecareers ex-crew Salvatore found a Yacht job through Yachtiecareers on a 60m Yacht in February in Malta.  (Excellent month for Yacht Crew Training and STCW. Will give you all certificates and CV in time for starting job search for the Med-season starting in April.

9. Best time to find a Yacht job in the Med – November

At this time, you can still find a crossing job to the Caribbean if you get the B1/B2 visa through Yachtiecareres.

Our Yachtie careers Gabi and Tereza did the Yacht Crew STCW Training with us in October and then found a Yacht job together doing a crossing to Caribbean in November. They are still completing the Caribbean season together.

8. Best time to find a Yacht job in the Med – July

  This is the middle of high season in the Med. It could not be more busy. So why is July not higher on the list to find yacht jobs as yacht crew ? Simply because all the yachts are fully manned at this point. And if someone quits there are 100 of yacht crew standing by looking for a job.  However if you are the right location at the right time this is still an excellent month to find a yacht job like our ex student Maria found one through Yachtiecareers in Montenegro and Sara Ramirez got a yacht job in Caribbean. 

7. Best time to find a Yacht job in the Med – June

Although yachts are now starting the season you can still find several yachts looking for crew in the med. This is also an excellent month to find daywork and dock walking as many yachts need crew prepare the yachts for charters and you can build your experience.

Hannah Smith and Villum Rasmussen found a Yacht job in the summer following their Training.

6. Best time to find a Yacht job in the Med – March

Kelsea Keating. Maybe the best month to complete your yacht crew STCW and get quailified. As you can then jump straight into the high season for yacht crew in the Med in terms of recruiting. This is when Yachts start to employ new crew for the upcoming Med-season.

Our Ex-student Kelsea Keating did the training in March and found her first Yacht job in March. One year later she has been offered a rotational job as 2 nd Stewardess.

5. Best time to find a Yacht Job in the Med – August

Similar spot as July, but in August more crew are starting to leave their positions. And as the Yacht Med Season is in full swing, yachts need crew quickly for charters. If you are in the right spot at the right time you will get the job. Especially in locations with less yacht crew such as:

Turkey, Montenegro, Greece and Croatia. Our ex-student Reece did the training in the 2023 summer and found her first j ob in Cannes in August following the yacht crew training as a Yacht Stewardess.

4. Best time to find a Yacht job in the Med – October

  Excellent month to find Yacht jobs in the Med. There is less competition. Many Yacht Crew go on leave and Yachts are also starting to look for crew to do Atlantic crossings for the Caribbean Season. This is also an excellent time to find winter jobs in Europe.

Our Ex yachtiecareers Stewardess Tabitha from United Kingdom did the training in October and the following week got offered a Yacht Job in Portugal for the winter.

3. Best time to find a Yacht job in the Med – May

  May is an excellent month as all yachts are looking to fill up the spots for the season and need both temporary and season crew to join on board both in Deckhand and Stewardess positions.

Our crew Deckhand Fredrik Fiskerstrand and Stewardess Firdious Ali from Cruise ships just completed the Online training as they had STCW already Fredrik Fiskerstrand and got jobs on 90-100m Mega Yachts within 2 weeks after we completed their CVs for the Yacht Med Season.

2. Best time to find a Yacht job in the Med – September

  Tiara Muyale completed her training in September and 2 days later had a yacht job for the Monaco Yacht show. After completing the show she managed to get a job in Cannes which later lead her to Dubai.

One of the absolute best months. Yacht are looking to replace crew for the end of the season. There are several Boat Shows, yacht crew are going on leave and need winter replacements and you can also catch a Caribbean job.

  Absolute Peak recruiting season. All Yachts are looking for Crew to join for the Summer season that is just starting in April. Our ex students did the Yacht Stewardess STCW in April and got job offers a week after in South of France.

Other months December-January As you can see for finding yacht jobs in the mediterreanean there are advantages to each month and we will help you optimize your job search and CV depending on month and location. Even the months not on the list December and January can be good for finding yacht jobs as you might be asked to step in for crew going on Christmas holidays.

As pointed out by  RealityTea , the Aussie native recently shed more light on the events that followed her  Below Deck Mediterranean  departure  in 2020’s Season 5 . Hannah shared an amusing anecdote while responding to a viral X post about luxury boutiques inside airports.

Hannah reveals she splurged on a Rolex after Below Deck Med exit

“Who exactly are airport shops for?” read the post, which included a photo of Balenciaga, Prada, and Bottega Veneta storefronts. “Like imagine going oops, forgot to grab a Prada bag and a Rolex that I totally need for my flight.”

Hannah reshared the post in an Instagram Story and admitted she had visited one of those airport shops after she was dismissed from The Wellington crew in Season 5, Episode 12.

“ME. So funny story,” she began, noting after she left Below Deck, “I had a stop over in Germany on my way home and I new in my heart that I was never going to work on yachts again so I took all my tip money into Rolex and bought one in cash.”

In fact, she said they had a “great” get-together during her recent trip to Australia.

“I saw Hannah the other night and we had a great conversation,” Captain Sandy said on the  Ricki-Lee, Tim & Joel  radio show. “We had a great conversation. I went to her house and I met her baby, her husband… A lot of people think [I don’t like her]. But I don’t not like anyone. Honestly. I like Hannah. I actually care about Hannah. She knows that. I hope she’s listening because I do care about Hannah.”

A really good chain of Mediterranean food. The staff here was very friendly.

Staff greeted us and explained this first-timer how things work. My salad was so delicious. I had the pomegranate chicken salad with all the fixings. I added the garlic mayo sauce but it needed more garlic. Lentil soup comes with meals.. lovely flavorful addition. Side of falafel is made fresh and was very good and not over fried. Definitely great for two people. I will definitely come back. Atmosphere is clean and bright.

I haven’t seen a Mediterranean place with these many vegetarian options( falafel,avacado, lentil soup ,beets, egg plant, hummus, veggies, cauliflower etc). Their veggies are super fresh and the food tasted great with garlic spread , tzatziki and tahini sauce topping! One of the best restaurants in SJ market center and must try!

Got a falafel it was incredible. I had the tamarind drink with my falafel as well as lentil soup & pita chips all of which were very good. They have also have a student discount when you show a school ID, it's $10 for a meal which is such a good price for so much food!

This is a good place for plant based food lovers with many options. We ordered takeout. We got vegan plate and traditional falafel pita. The food was very neatly packed & we got generous amount of food for the price we paid. Food was very tasty & fresh. We enjoyed sumac cauliflower, falafel, eggplant ragout, pita bread, lentil soup & baklava. Highly recommend this place.
