The Top 5 Places To Rent Boats In Ocean City, Maryland

There’s just something so very ‘revitalizing’ about the sea that makes it attractive to all kinds of people – Families on vacation, world travelers, even the most experienced sailors. Ocean City is a prime location to indulge in these exotic desires, being surrounded by a large body of water which Ocean City companies have used to build watersport business.

Today, we’ll be going through the best places in Ocean City to rent a boat and go high-tide sailing, or perhaps something more subtle if you so desire.

1. Bahia Marina

Our first pick goes to a boat rental spot that is unlike any other. Located on Dorchester Street, Bahia Marina even allows customers to travel on a motorized tiki hut allowing you to taste exotic beverages whilst out on the water.

We recommend this location due to the variety of boats available. Small families may find themselves endeared to fishing boats for bonding time, whilst shop-owning fishermen may want to rent a charter boat to catch fresh tuna. For a casual day or night out on the waterfront, head boats can be rented as well.

Customers praise Bahia Marina for its affordability. For example, renting a pontoon boat for 2 hours could set you back as little as $199. That may sound somewhat steep, but the longer your session, the greater the discount you receive – For example, whilst a 4-hour session should cost nearly $400 based on this rate, it will only cost up to $306 at most.

We recommend this place due to the views available on the waterfront journey. Under The Bridge, Watersports prides itself on allowing customers to boat past million-dollar homes and dock on the beaches of Assateague Island where you can find pop-up bars and exotic restaurants.

If you’re looking for an eventful ride as opposed to low prices and purely staying on the water, then this rental spot will have you covered. For an idea of how much a ride here will set you back, 2-hour rental costs $329, which whilst a lot more than our previous contender, it also comes with a lot more amenities and locations for a more adventurous experience.

3. Odyssea Watersports

If you’ve been following these blogs for any amount of time, it’s possible that you recognize the name of this place. Odyssea Watersports qualified for our best Ocean City jet ski rentals list, and it also qualifies for the best boat rentals as well.

As mentioned in a previous blog, this location is better suited for larger parties such as celebrations or work-outings, so if you’re in Ocean City by yourself or with a partner only, you may find yourself more endeared to other locations on this list.

The waterfront section used by this company also happens to be a hotspot for crabs. Many customers have reported a positive crabbing experience after renting cheap sailing boats to undertake this activity. Other customers speak highly of the larger pontoon boats, again making it ideal for celebratory events.

A niche feature of Odyssea Watersports, and one of the reasons why it made this list as well, is due to its’ weather policy – Should the weather turn sour on the day of rental, customers are entitled to reschedule their visit free of charge.

4. Liquid Limo

The penultimate location on today’s list goes to a place that is quite different from the others on this list. As opposed to renting a pontoon, sailing, or charter boats (though some of these are still available for rental here), Liquid Limo’s calling card is a party ‘limousine’ boat that cruises up to 18 passengers alongside the length of Ocean City.

The limousine boat itself is rather fancy, with a 1600-watt sound system and LED lights equipped to the vessel to make the partying experience truly eccentric. There’s also free Wi-Fi and a Bluetooth hotspot included, allowing you to broadcast your own music playlist through the speakers, though a DJ is stationed on board as well should a more random music selection be desired.

Aside from the unique novelty, we also recommend Liquid Limo due to its convenience – Parties who are staying at the nearby Fairfield Inn & Suites hotel can be picked up directly from the body of water that runs behind the building. This also means that you don’t have to worry about taking public transport or walking back once the party is over, as the boat will drop you right back where it picked you up from.

5. 48th Street Watersports

With a vast selection of water equipment available for rental, 48th Street Watersports allows for a more direct and close-up experience with the waterfront.

Those who are wanting to get up close and personal with the water can rent kayaks, windsurfers, paddle boats, and sailboats, making for a smaller, cheaper, and more direct experience – So if you’re looking for party boats or rentals with activities to do whilst out on the water, your best bet will be with a different location on this list.

In terms of pricing, a 2-hour paddle boat session clocks in at just $25, and an all-day paddleboard session costs up to $60 with hourly sessions costing even less. If your vacation budget is really tight, then 48th Street Watersports would be the ideal choice for you, as the waterfront experience is both cheap and personal.

They also offer waterfront ‘tours’ which are done on paddleboards, and you can even do a tour at night-time on a glow-in-the-dark paddleboard for just $30, so it’s certainly a unique experience, but maybe not entirely accommodating for parties larger than a nuclear family.

Overall…

Ocean City is home to a great many undiscovered gems. In past blogs, we’ve explored its campgrounds and restaurants, but more recently we’ve taken a look at the main point of attraction: The ocean itself.

Whilst normally we like to remain unbiased about the picks on our lists, we have to recommend Liquid Limo if you are only going to choose one place on this list – A party boat straight to and from your hotel? It certainly sounds like a luxurious experience that cannot be passed up.

Always be mindful of your budget, though also be mindful that there are some experiences in life you may only get one chance at. “When in Rome, do as the Romans do,” well, when in Ocean City, do as the locals do – Boating out across a waterfront can be done at various places throughout the world, though Ocean City is designed around the ocean itself, making for a natural and worthwhile experience that nowhere else can even come near to recreating.

Try something completely different and come sailing on our 50’ catamaran, Alyosha! We offer several trips each day, usually at 1pm, 4pm and sometimes a “Sunset Cruise” in the evening. Occasionally we depart as early as 10am! Alyosha can take up to 12 people and has a men’s and women’s restroom for your use throughout the trip.

All of our sailing adventures can be catered- we have partnered with OC’s best events company, Taste Events, to provide that option. (Catered trips are offered only with a minimum of a 6 person booking). Additionally, feel free to bring beverages of your choice aboard. There are plenty of options to keep things cold. Choose from one of the following sailing experiences:

Ocean Sailing!

See another side of Ocean City from the Atlantic Ocean. This 3 hour cruise will allow you to experience the pure joy of sailing fast on a 50’ catamaran! The incredible views, marine life on display, and fun captain and crew, will make this unforgettable.

Hands On Sailing

Interested in something more “hands on?” Assist the Captain and Crew of Alyosha and learn some of the basics of blue water sailing. Offered only at specific times during the week.

Sunset Cruise

Enjoy an evening on the ocean and watch the sun set on Ocean City from the water. These trips are typically shorter in duration (approx. 90 minutes) but still provide the thrill of sailing in a romantic setting.

Private Charters

Interested in a more intimate experience for just close friends and family? Alyosha is available for private charters at times when she is not scheduled to run trips. (You need to book the whole boat!)

Cruise on Alyosha, a 50ft sailing Catamaran, out into the Atlantic for a beautiful view of the Sunset. If you are worried about your comfort during our longer “Ocean Sailing” and “Hands On” trips, then this shorter trip out into the Atlantic might be something to consider. Generally, the sunset cruise will depart about 45 minutes before sunset and will return at dusk. (about 75-80 minutes) Watch the sun set on Ocean City from the Atlantic Ocean as you glide along the coastline under sail. Lounge on the trampoline or enjoy any of the other excellent seating options that this 50′ boat has available. This is a “must do” experience in Ocean City!

Offered only during a full moon on 6 selective nights throughout the summer! This is a chance to sail the Atlantic under moon light as the sailors have been doing for centuries! You will not believe how different of an experience this can be. Trips last 2 hours later in the evening.

Join us for a hands on sailing adventure that will include some very basic lessons on the basics of sailing. Captain Steve Butz has over 35 years of sailing experience and recently completed a circumnavigation on Alyosha. He has logged over 40,000 nautical miles on the boat. Expect to participate in raising, lowering and adjusting the sails as Alyosha gracefully glides under wind power! No question is off limits as Steve is happy to pursue whatever topics interest sailors looking to boost their knowledge or stoke the interest of newbys to the sport. This trip- which is our longest experience at 3 1/2 hours- is for those wanting more than just a ride in the Atlantic Ocean. You will leave with a deeper appreciation of the sport of sailing and the physics behind it.

Throughout the summer there are occasionally events that can best seen from the water, including the Ocean City Air Show, 4th of July fireworks, and select music concerts. There is also a chance to accompany the Captain as Alyosha transits between Baltimore and Ocean City.

The policy was written from the ground up as a stand-alone recreational boat rental insurance policy covering the period of time that the boat is being rented and is available for all non-commercially insured boats.

Does Boatsetter screen renters?

Yes. We use a system called Cognito to ensure that payment information matches the renter's identity. We also require renters taking out a captained boat to be at least 18 years old and on a bareboat to be at least 25 years old.

Is listing my boat on Boatsetter free?

Yes! Listing a boat is completely free. We only take a commission when your boat is rented. We only make money when you do!

What if I'm not comfortable having a renter drive my boat?

If you are not comfortable having a renter drive your boat, we have an expansive network of licensed and experienced captains. Once your boat is listed, you can filter through our network of captains and favorite captains in your area that you would like to operate your boat.

Limited Parking, please try to limit the number of cars to 2-3

Updated Coast Guard and Insurance regulations:

• Max of 12 total people  on all rental pontoon boats and Max of 10 total people on all tri-toon boats which include ALL AGES. This is out of our control and there are no exceptions.
• Tubing is NOT allowed  off of our boats
• ALL passengers and drivers must show up at our location.  Everyone is now REQUIRED to sign the paperwork  prior to leaving the dock.
• You  CAN NOT pick up any people during your rental  unless you come back to Odyssea Watersports dock due to the fact that they have to sign the paperwork as well.
• Must be at least 21 years of age with a Drivers license to drive the boat

Included with your rental:

• All safety equipment (life vest, anchor, first aid kit, etc.)
• A boater safety course and a lesson on the boat and how to operate it
• All of our boats are equipped with a fishing/crabbing license
• A map of the water for navigating
• A list of legal size limits for fishing
• Radio equipped with Bluetooth
• Bimini top and swim platform
• No charge for GAS!

Things to do on the boat:

• Fishing/crabbing:  These boats are great for that kind of activity! Spend some hours catching dinner for that night! We offer everything you need for a fun day of crabbing and fishing, including different bait options!
• Bar hop:  There are many of the local favorite bars to pull up to and tie up to their dock. BYOB as long as you have a designated driver!
• Relax and enjoy the sun:  Enjoy a relaxing time with your friends and family, bring a packed lunch and cooler, drop the anchor, and enjoy your company!
• Enjoy the  Ocean City Air Show  from the water (great view!)

Where can you go on the boat:

• Your most South boundary is 22nd Street which is where Fishtales Bar and Grill is located. The northern boundary is under the west Route 90 Bridge. We have a map on board and our boat instructors will go over the boundaries prior to you leaving the dock. There are bars and restaurants in the area and plenty of fishing spots as well.

Annual Marlin Club Canyon Kick-Off:

The Ocean City Mdrlin Club Canyon Kick-Off, held each year on or around the Fourth of July weekend, is the first significant event of the season for the Marlin Club each year. This is a 2 of 3 day event. While it is open to all anglers, entry for the tournament is free to OCMC Boat Members. This is an offshore event with prizes for Mahi Mahi, Tuna, and Billfish Releases. Annual MSSA Tuna-Ment:

The Maryland Saltwater Sports fishing Association holds the official offshore Annual Tuna-Ment Tournament benefiting the MSSA and their mission to protect the rights of sport fishermen, and enhance the fisheries' resources. As the name suggests, tuna is the targeted game for this event and more than 50 boats participate every year. The Tuna-ment is known for its laid back attitude and convenience with 4 Mid-Atlantic weigh stations – Indian River, Sunset Marina in West, Ocean City and Chincoteague. Dolphins are also allowed in special categories and there are additional skill levels for tuna and dolphin.

Annual Big Rock Blue Marlin:

The Annual Big Rock Blue Marlin tournament is the "Super Bowl" of fishing because of the way winner's feel after capturing the event. Hundreds of anglers participate, representing the best marlin fishermen in the world. Though the prize money of almost a million dollars is tempting, that is not the main reason why anglers from all of the world participate – they participate for the bragging rights that comes with a Big Rock victory. For the last 16 years, the competition has topped $1 million and continues to grow with increased sponsorship and participation.

From planning to following up about our boat ride, Malcolm was amazing. He was super friendly and willing to do anything that we came up with that was reasonable and gave me plenty of suggestions. Him and his wife have been in Fenwick for over 30 years, so they know a lot about the island. Malcom’s been boating even longer, so I have no hesitation in saying you’re with an experienced captain. When we arrived, his dog Lucy who is a very experienced boating dog, warmly welcomed us and he went over some boater safety after his wife, took group pictures of us in multiple locations. We stopped at an island, where we got out of the boat to go exploring and take some cute pictures. Our planned lunch spot was not available due to low tide but Malcolm had some other great places that we could drive the boat up to and dock. I will say this, no boating trip goes completely to plan but it’s how your captain handles the curve balls that makes the experience worth it.

Friendly operators, knowledgeable and shared tidbits about the area - clean and nice boat - answered all my questions (and there were many!) - Book w Tabitha you won't regret it!! Flexible with pickup location I could go on! I'm seriously looking forward to booking more adventures with Tabitha!!!

Absolutely recommend. Booked the boat to spend a morning with a group of 6 total boating around and a bit of floating/swimming. Boat is spacious and in great shape. Plenty of space for 6 adults to sit and hang out + our cooler. Mason was our Captain and he was professional, educated and nice to hang out with. He taught us all about the area and knew the great spots to hang out and float/swim. Great experience.

Whether you are an experienced boater or this is your first time on the water – you have come to the right place! At Under The Bridge Watersports, we strive to help you create a long lasting memory on the water in Ocean City, MD you and your friends or family will never forget!

Our riding area is THE BEST in Ocean City because we’re located right in the middle of all the action and right beside Assateague Island! Riding with us is just different (in the best way possible), and as they say: “location, location, location”. In fact, some of the other boat rental companies unfortunately do not let you past the Rt 50 Bridge, thus making Under The Bridge the go to for so many people visiting the island.

We let you park your boat right on Assateague Island for a day of lounging on or exploring the beach or sand bars and many times you’re able to see the Wild Assateague Ponies walking the beaches and Dolphins swimming in from the Ocean. Riding with us, you can cruise the bay with so many sights to see including all the million dollar waterfront homes, the Yachts coming in from a day of deep sea fishing and all the local hot spots like Fish Tales, Seacrets and Fagers Island!

Want to rent a fishing or crabbing package? We have it! Want to rent a tube? Yup, we have them! Want to go for a relaxing sunset cruise? We can help you plan it! Or want to booze cruise up and down the bay? We’ll show you where to go!

Looking to upgrade your “traditional” pontoon boat rental? Under The Bridge Watersports is the only Watersports company in Ocean City that has the brand new SeaDoo Switch pontoon boats!!!

Who drives the boat?

When you rent a boat with us, you are renting a private pontoon boat which you drive.  Never driven a boat before?  Don’t worry, most of our guests have never driven a boat before.  We will show you how to drive it (and watching some YouTube videos before you come won’t hurt 😉 and will issue you a temporary boaters license when you arrive.  You do have to be 21 years old to drive and the driver must have their driver’s license.

Can we bring pets, kids or alcohol?

What’s the maximum capacity for the pontoons.

The maximum capacity for a boat is 12 people with a weight limit of 1900-2100 lbs.  If your group is more than the weight limit then every person in your party will not be able to ride.  Please note that no refunds will be given, so please make sure everyone on board meets the weight criteria.  Sometimes, families or groups of friends rent two boats so everyone in the party can enjoy the day and the ride can be comfortable.

Can we use the pontoon boats to tube or fish?

Yes you can do both, and Crab!  We are one of the only boat rental companies in Ocean City that let you tube.  You do have to rent the tubes from us and they are $75.  You can bring your own fishing or crabbing gear and bait, or you can rent it from us.  We have crabbing and fishing packages that are $39 each which give you rods, crabbing baskets and bait!  You do have to order ahead of time to reserve these packages or a tube since supply is limited!

Where can we take the pontoons?

At Under The Bridge we have one of the largest riding areas in Ocean City MD!  You can drive the boat all up and down the bay to the Verrazano Bridge in Assateague and the Rt 90 Bridge in Ocean City!  Unfortunately, Ocean City does not let rental boats into the Ocean but there is so much to see in the bay!  You can park your boat on the beaches of Assateague Island or the sand bars, cruise the marinas or pull up to the hot spots VIP style like a local!  When you board we give you a map of the bay and can show you where to go!
