Two super luxury yachts remain anchored in Puerto Vallarta

Two super luxury yachts, Attessa IV and Cloudbreak, have been anchored in Puerto Vallarta since the beginning of the year. Valued at $250 million and $150 million, respectively, these yachts have been a regular sight in the marina for several years. The owner of Attessa IV is the U.S. entrepreneur Dennis Washington, ranked 83rd among the world’s richest by Forbes with a fortune of $6 billion. The yacht offers amenities like a gym, spa, massage room, luxurious cabins for 28 guests, and a helipad.
Attessa IV arrived in Puerto Vallarta a few weeks ago, and while its departure date is uncertain, it typically sets sail at the end of January or early February, as observed in previous years. This award-winning yacht, honored as the best luxury vessel at the 2011 World Superyacht Awards, stands out for its design and the onboard helicopter, allowing passengers to reach remote beaches or land locations.
Originally named Evergreen, the yacht was built in 1999 for Taiwanese shipping magnate Chang Yung-fa and later purchased by current owner Dennis Washington in 2007. The Cloudbreak, another superyacht in Puerto Vallarta, is a 72.5-meter vessel built in 2016, known for its sophisticated design by luxury yacht architect Espen Øino and interiors by Parisian designer Christian Liaigre. It features high-tech amenities, a helideck, a large fireplace, and claims to have the world’s biggest toy chest.
Cloudbreak is considered a high-volume yacht, resembling a floating high-tech chalet with extensive fitness and spa areas, modern lighting, and sound systems. With 7 cabins that accommodate 12 guests and a crew of 22, the yacht’s name is inspired by the famous Cloudbreak wave in Fiji, capturing the adventurous spirit of its owners, guests, and clients.

The businessman who is known for dominating Mexico’s telecommunications industry and regaining his spot as the world’s richest man (or at least tying with Bill Gates) is not the first person one would think as an advocate for a shorter work week. But that’s exactly what Carlos Slim told a group of businesspeople in Paraguay. Slim said that workers should think about moving to a three-day work week, but instead of working the traditional seven or eight hours a day normal in the developed world the work day would be between 11 and 12 hours long. This, Slim said, would give workers more leisure time – and thus lead to more productivity and happier workers when on the clock. “With three workdays a week, we would have more time to relax; for quality of life,” Slim said, according to The Financial Times. “Having four days [off] would be very important to generate new entertainment activities and other ways of being occupied.” Slim has been progressive on a number of workers issues within the companies he owns and has even started to institute his shortened work week at his fixed line Telmex phone company in Mexico. At the company Slim has instituted a voluntary scheme allowing workers on a collective labor contract who joined the company in their late teens to keep working, on full pay, but for only four days a week. “People are going to have to work for more years, until they are 70 or 75, and just work three days a week – perhaps 11 hours a day,” Slim said, according to Slate. Slim’s net worth recently rose to an estimated $78.9 billion, which brings him square with Bill Gates as the richest man in the world América Móvil’s stock has actually surged since last week’s announcement that it was selling off some its assets. The company, whose stock had languished over the past few years, jumped 10 percent on the New York Stock Exchange the day following the announcement of Mexico’s tough new telecommunications reform law, which was widely been hailed as a savvy move on Slims’ part. AMLO threatens Carlos Slim’s Puerto Vallarta highway project
( Bloomberg ) — Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador wants billionaire Carlos Slim to finish a highway project ASAP or else he’ll take it away, according to newspaper El Financiero.
“For 10 years, a company has had the concession to build this highway and there’s no progress,” Lopez Obrador said over the weekend at an event in the state of Nayarit, home to beach resorts Punta Mita and Sayulita. “I’m going to have a chat with them — this is over. Either they get to work and finish it, or it’ll be taken back.” The company he referenced is Slim’s Grupo Carso.
The dig was the second one directed to the billionaire’s businesses in just a couple of days, a sign of a cooling relationship. In another event over the weekend, Lopez Obrador said telecommunications companies had failed to connect people in far-flung towns to the Internet and that his government was looking to launch a state-owned telecom company to do the job. Slim’s America Movil SAB is the largest phone company in the country.
Ideal, a Grupo Carso subsidiary, was granted the concession to build the Las Varas-Puerto Vallarta stretch of the highway in 2016 and the building permit in August 2018, the company said in a statement.
“To this day, there are several working fronts across that stretch and the project is in schedule,” the company said.

What are the benefits of buying a boat in Mexico?
There are many reasons to buy your boat in paradise!
Boats in Mexico are better equipped and are proven cruising vessels. They have much more gear than many of their counterparts in the US that are outfitted only for day sailing. Compare the equipment lists of our boats with those of many of our US or Canadian equivalents and see that we bring you better value.
Purchasing a vessel in Mexico is an offshore purchase and may yield tax advantages. We are not in the tax business so we suggest you contact professionals in that area to ensure that you understand your obligations which can vary by state and country.
Our crew is made up of boat owners who have cruised the US, Canada and the west coast of Mexico. We have lived the cruising dream and have chosen to stay in our adopted country. We have gained first-hand knowledge of what it takes to outfit and maintain a boat for living aboard, coastal cruising, offshore sailing, day sailing, or fishing.
Can I get a survey done in Mexico?
YES! We work with several surveyors in each area, many of whom are also US or Canadian nationals. We work with people that have done surveys for clients before, so we know the quality of their work. If you are buying a vessel, the surveyor you choose will be working for you, ensuring that you get a vessel that has been properly inspected from bow to stern. Our certified surveyors work with US, Canadian and European insurance carriers on a regular basis. Current survey rates range from $10 to $14 per foot. E-mail us for more details.
How does the boat-buying process work in Mexico?
If you see a boat that interests you, contact us and let us know! Each boat has an ‘Inquire About This Boat’ button that will connect you directly with us so that you may ask questions about each boat. We will respond quickly to your inquiries and provide you with detailed information and assessments of the boats we have in inventory. Once you are ready to make an offer, we will work with you to draw up an “Offer to Purchase & Sales Agreement” which details the conditions and any contingencies of the purchase. Our brokers will work with you and the seller to come to a mutually acceptable price and terms. Upon the offer being accepted by the seller, the 10% deposit must be submitted to the title company noted below in Washington State. This amount is held in your name in a trust account.
My offer was accepted! What's next?
Once your offer is accepted, you will have a set period of time to complete the purchase transaction, normally 10 to 30 days. This period is used to satisfy any contingencies such as your personal inspection, the survey and the sea trial. Once all the contingencies have been satisfied, closing and documentation instructions are sent to Pacific Maritime Title (PMT) or Marine Documentation Service, Inc (MDSI). You will receive your new documentation from the US Coast Guard or Canada Ships Registry. Proper papers will be provided if registering under another flag. In the unlikely event that the contingencies are not met, the deposit in trust is returned to you.
Okay, I'm ready to come to Mexico. Where do I stay?

Can I get work done on my boat in Mexico?
Absolutely! La Paz, Mazatlán, San Carlos and Puerto Vallarta are very large cruising communities with multiple yards and marinas. Each city has virtually all the marine-related services and supplies that a boater would want – boat yards, marinas, chandleries and a wide range of marine professionals such as sailmakers, riggers, refrigeration and diesel mechanics, canvas & upholstery, boat maintenance workers. etc. Send us an e-mail at [email protected] and we will be happy to provide more information on the services that we recommend to our clients.
How do you handle titling and documentation service?
We use the services of Anacortes Marine Documentation (Anacortes, WA). They are the nation’s foremost providers of vessel documentation, preferred mortgage, state titling, and closing services for owners, buyers, brokers, dealers, lenders and attorneys. They also work with clients to prepare documents for registration outside of the US and Canada. They have provided our clients with excellent service for years.
How hard is it to find a slip for my boat?
There are slips readily available in all of our locations. Unlike many parts of the U.S. or Canada where slips are in short supply, there is availability throughout most of the year. During peak season when there are multiple events at the same time, such as regattas, fishing tournaments, or the seasonal launch and haul-out in the fall and spring, there may be a wait of a few days before you get the slip of your choice.
