The Art of On-the-Water Living

From swim deck to sun deck, Kenshō is committed to life on the water. Her owner, in love with the at-sea lifestyle, threw convention out of the window with her layout. Using asymmetry, integrated outside living areas and spaces in unexpected places, he created a space that was totally dedicated to life on the water, allowing the sea to be viewed – and enjoyed - at every turn.

Questions for Investigators Trying to Unravel Mystery of Luxury Yacht’s Sinking

The investigators searching for answers about the shipwreck, leaving seven dead, face questions about extreme weather and possible human error or problems with the yacht itself.

  • Share full article

Two small boats with outboard motors make their way across the water.

By Alan Yuhas

More than 180 feet long, with a mast towering about 240 feet and a keel that could be lowered for greater stability, the Bayesian luxury yacht did not, in the eyes of its maker, have the vulnerabilities of a ship that would easily sink.

“It drives me insane,” Giovanni Costantino, the chief executive of the Italian Sea Group, which in 2022 bought the company that made the ship, said after its wreck last week. “Following all the proper procedures, that boat is unsinkable.”

But the $40 million sailing yacht sank within minutes and with fatal results: seven dead, including the British technology billionaire Michael Lynch, his teenage daughter, four of Mr. Lynch’s friends and a member of the crew. Fifteen people, including the captain, escaped on a lifeboat.

Mr. Lynch had invited family, friends and part of his legal team on a cruise in the Mediterranean to celebrate his acquittal in June of fraud charges tied to the sale of his company to the tech giant Hewlett-Packard.

The Italian authorities have opened a manslaughter investigation, searching for answers from the survivors, the manufacturer and the wreck itself. They face a range of questions and possible factors.

An ‘earthquake’ in the sky?

When the Bayesian sank around 4 a.m. on Aug. 19, the waters in its area, about half a mile off the Sicilian port of Porticello, were transformed by an extremely sudden and violent storm, according to fishermen, a captain in the area and meteorologists.

But what kind of storm is still a mystery, compounded by the fact that a sailing schooner anchored nearby did not have its own disaster. Also unclear is whether the crew was aware that the Italian authorities had issued general warnings about bad weather the night before.

Karsten Börner, the captain of the nearby passenger ship, said he’d had to steady his ship during “really violent” winds . During the storm, he said, the Bayesian seemed to disappear behind his ship.

Severe lightning and strong gusts were registered by the Italian Air Force’s Center for Aerospace Meteorology and Climatology, according to Attilio Di Diodato, its director. “It was very intense and brief in duration,” he said.

The yacht, he said, had most likely been hit by a fierce downburst — a blast of powerful wind surging down during a thunderstorm. His agency put out rough-sea warnings the previous evening, alerting sailors about possible storms.

Locals have said the winds “felt like an earthquake.” A fisherman in Porticello said that he had seen a flare go off in the early-morning hours. His brother ventured to the site once the weather had calmed about 20 minutes later, he said, finding only floating cushions.

The Italian authorities have so far declined to say whether investigators had seen any structural damage to the hull or other parts of the ship.

Open hatches or doors?

The boat executive, Mr. Costantino, has argued that the Bayesian was an extremely safe vessel that could list even to 75 degrees without capsizing. His company, the Italian Sea Group, in 2022 bought the yacht’s manufacturer, Perini Navi, which launched the ship in 2008.

Mr. Costantino said that if some of the hatches on the side and in the stern, or some of the deck doors, had been open, the boat could have taken on water and sunk. Standard procedure in such storms, he said, would be to switch on the engine, lift the anchor and turn the boat into the wind, lowering the keel for extra stability, closing doors and gathering the guests in the main hall inside the deck.

At a news conference on Saturday, almost a week after the sinking, investigators said the yacht had sunk at an angle , with its stern — where the heavy engine was — having gone down first. The wreck was found lying on its right side at the bottom of a bay, about 165 feet deep.

12 guests occupied the yacht’s six cabins. There were also 10 crew members.

Open hatches, doors and cabin windows could have let in water during a storm, according to the manufacturer.

By Veronica Penney

Water pouring into open hatches or doors could have contributed to the sinking, experts say, but that on its own may not account for the speed at which such a large boat vanished underwater.

Asked about the hatches at the news conference, the authorities declined to comment on whether they had been found open at the wreck.

The authorities have also not specified whether the boat had been anchored, whether it was under power at the time or whether its sails had been unfurled.

A retracted keel?

The Bayesian had a keel — the fin-like structure beneath a boat that can help stabilize it — that could be retracted or extended, according to its manufacturer. On some yachts, keels can be raised to let the large vessel dock in shallower water, and extended downward to help keep a boat level.

But like the hatches, the status of the keel alone may not explain why a large ship sank with such precipitous speed. Investigators have not disclosed what divers may have seen at the wreck, aside from saying divers had faced obstacles like furnishings and electrical wiring in tight quarters. Officials want to raise the wreck to better examine it, a process that may take weeks.

Human error?

Ambrogio Cartosio, the prosecutor in charge of the case, said at the news conference that it was “plausible” crimes had been committed, but that investigators had not zeroed in on any potential suspects.

“There could be responsibilities of the captain only,” he said. “There could be responsibilities of the whole crew. There could be responsibilities of the boat makers. Or there could be responsibilities of those who were in charge of surveilling the boat.”

It remains unclear what kind of emergency training or preparation took place before the disaster, or what kind of coordination there was during it. So far, none of the surviving crew members have made a public statement about what happened the night the ship sank.

Prosecutors said they want to ask more questions of the captain and crew, who have been in a Sicilian hotel with other survivors. They said that neither alcohol nor drug tests had been performed on crew members, and that they have been allowed to leave Italy.

Prosecutors also said they were also investigating why the captain, an experienced sailor, left the sinking boat while some passengers were still on board.

Besides possible manslaughter charges, the authorities are investigating the possibility of a negligently caused shipwreck.

The bodies of five passengers were found in one cabin, on the left side of the yacht, the authorities said. The five were most likely trying to flee to the higher side of the boat and were probably sleeping when the boat started to sink, they said.

French agency Jouin Manku was appointed to design the interior concept and layout. Key features includes a large beach club swimming pool that faces aft, giving guests “mesmerising views at the same level as the ocean”. Elsewhere, the unconventional positioning of the wheelhouse affords the upper deck with a unique living area forward.

The main saloon offers ample comfortable seating for up to 16 guests, flanked by floor-to-ceiling windows port and starboard, with a large TV screen and artwork forward. The area leads through to seating and an al fresco dining area on the forward main deck.

Accommodation is for 16 guests in eight cabins, comprising a full 13-metre beam master’s suite and seven en suite staterooms. Crew accommodation is for 20 in 12 cabins.

Kenshō is powered by a diesel-electric propulsion system which allows a top speed of 15.4 knots and a range of 4,350 nautical miles. She will be available to charter with Y.CO in the summer of 2022.

“This motor yacht represents another success and highlights our capability to create effective synergies with international professional partners," said Giuseppe Taranto, vice chairman and chief commercial officer of The Italian Sea Group. Working on such a masterpiece, so full of details and research, has been an amazing experience for all of us.”

Also under construction at The Italian Sea Group is a 100 metre hybrid superyacht known as Hull 597 which will replace Kenshō as the flagship once she launches in 2025.

The Ultimate How To Guide for Presenting Content in Microsoft Teams

how to see presentation in teams

Sharing / presenting content in Teams meeting is at the same time simple but is also has some options available that may not be known enough by everyone. This guide lets you get started and dive deeper what happens when you share your window, document or desktop in Microsoft Teams.

This article will be updated when there are new features or based on feedback.

Updated 22.3.2021 Presenter View section.

Community: I am happy to add Mac and iOS screenshots into the article as well if someone is willing to collaborate & provide them. 😎💪

Teams Desktop: sharing a screen (Windows)

Opening the sharing with Microsoft Teams Desktop (in the New Meeting experience mode).

how to see presentation in teams

This opens the Share Tray. From it you can choose to start sharing

  • Your Desktop (Screen share)
  • Specific application (Window)
  • Whiteboard application: either Microsoft Whiteboard (natively with Microsoft 365) or available 3rd party Whiteboards
  • PowerPoint document

how to see presentation in teams

TIP: When you choose to share something using Teams Desktop you can choose to include your computer sounds to meeting. This is a must-have option if you are playing music or video to your participants. You can not toggle this on later – you need to choose this when you start sharing.

When you choose to include computer sound included with the sharing you need to have configured the speaker for computer and Teams meeting to be the same one.

If you have multiple monitors available for your Microsoft Teams you can choose any of those displays.

And you have the sharing open. Shared area is marked with red rectangle around it. You will find the more smaller Teams meeting control window in one of your desktops – and if you have the camera on it will show the video.

But more importantly you can use that small window to control camera, audio or sharing (ending it with one press). Or you can click on the small window (not on meeting toolbar) and it will expand back to the full size.

how to see presentation in teams

You can use that same icon to stop sharing in the expanded window.

Tip: If you have two screens available you should consider presenting your PowerPoint presentation so that you share the external screen and project your presentation there (PowerPoint – Slide Show – Monitor). Share that external screen to Teams meeting so you can be sure that whatever you show in that screen it is shown to attendees. Just check that your second screen is not a ultra-wide display or 8k (or preferably even 4k) because the content is going to be tough to read and view by attendees. FullHD screen works the best here.

Tip2: when you are presenting PowerPoint in external screen (and sharing that to Teams meeting) do they advantage of inking and pen if you are using a device with touch screen (like Surface)!

Tip3: if you have an embedded video in your PowerPoint and you use screen/display sharing to present it to the audience: Don’t forget include computer sound with your share!

Teams Desktop: sharing a PowerPoint

You can choose from your recent PowerPoint documents in the list

  • A PowerPoint document you opened or edited in Microsoft Teams (in a team you belong to) or in your OneDrive
  • Browse for more

how to see presentation in teams

This list of sharing PowerPoints is causing often some big questions. PowerPoints will appear in the list once you edit or open the PowerPoint presentation in Teams or OneDrive (there may be some short delay). Generally it applies to the next meeting you join. Make sure you prepare for the meeting by opening the document in advance. Simply uploading a presentation to OneDrive or Teams does not bring it to the list – you need to open/edit it as well.

Browse-option lets you choose a PowerPoint from your OneDrive or from your computer.

how to see presentation in teams

What this one lacks is the ability to choose a file from a team you belong to.

TIP: Use OneDrive syncing to have an easy access to files in the most relevant teams you belong to .

Once you are sharing the PowerPoint you can see it in the presenter view mode! This feature is generally available ! This makes it easy to do presentations using Teams – without having to have a PowerPoint desktop app open at the same time. Seems to work only on Teams Desktop with new meeting experience mode at the moment.

The presented area (PowerPoint) is shown surrounded with a red rectangle.

Updated 22.3.2021. There are other controls in this as well for jumping between slides and accessibility controls.

NEW: PowerPoint Live has now laser pointer and inking capabilities. Read about them here !

Once the presentation is shared you can move back and forth easily with arrows in the screen.

how to see presentation in teams

Note: there is the “eye” icon. If you press that one it locks the PowerPoint for the participants so that they see the same slide as you do: they can not browse the deck on their own. This is called private viewing disable (arrows for other participants will be disabled). Private viewing is enabled on default.

how to see presentation in teams

Note: if you are a presenter in the meeting where a PowerPoint is shared to you can take control of the shared PowerPoint to advance slides. This does not ask for any confirmation and the feature is really useful when you have multiple presenters who use the same slide deck. Just be careful that everyone else are not presenters – or they know not to touch it.

how to see presentation in teams

You will get a warning that someone has taken the control and can easily take it back.

how to see presentation in teams

Whoever is in control of the presentation has also the control to disable/enable private viewing mode. As can be seen in the picture above (with Take control) the eye is missing and arrows are greyed out: this means someone else than you have the control and they have disable the private viewing.

Note: When you share PowerPoint to a meeting this way participants can click links you have in your presentation. Thank you Joe for this reminder!

how to see presentation in teams

If you add a online video to your presentation your participants can activate that on their own as well. It is good also to note that if you hit “play” it doesn’t reflect to attendees (=they need to play the video themselves)

Teams Desktop: sharing a Whiteboard

When you choose Microsoft Whiteboard from the Share Tray you are taken directly to the Whiteboard view. Everyone who is in the same organization as you are (the situation in January 2021) can co-author the Whiteboard with you. Once you are done you can Stop presenting (middle top screen) or share something else.

Teams web client: sharing a screen (Microsoft Edge)

Sharing looks a bit different when you are using Teams web client. Sharing is available in (new) Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome browsers. The toolbar is hovering on top of the meeting. From the toolbar you can open the share tray.

how to see presentation in teams

When you have the share tray open you can choose to share something of following

  • Desktop (Screenshare)
  • A specific PowerPoint document
  • Whiteboard: either Microsoft Whiteboard or Freehand (3rd party).

how to see presentation in teams

  • Entire screen
  • Application window (a specific application only)
  • With Microsoft Edge you have option to choose a selected, specific, tab

how to see presentation in teams

When(if) you have multiple monitors it is easiest to just share a one of them: it makes the sharing really simple and easy to manage: anything on that display is shared.

If you don’t have multiple monitors then you might want to just share a single application.

how to see presentation in teams

This is useful when you want to show something specific that runs in it’s own application but you can not share anything else on your screen.

Note: Teams is not in the list (not even on blurred ones) and nor is Spotify or ToDo. Not every application can be shared with this.

Note2: you can not share desktop audio to the meeting using Teams web client.

And the last option is to share a selected Edge tab – and if you have multiple Edge profiles open you can share from any of those by clicking the desired Edge active and choosing the tab.

how to see presentation in teams

In my example I chose to share one of my screens. You don’t get much feedback – you just click on the screen and hit Share. In one of your screens you will have this toolbar:

how to see presentation in teams

You can end sharing using either that toolbar or you can navigate to your web Teams meeting and choose Stop sharing from the toolbar there.

Teams web client: sharing a Whiteboard

Sharing a Whiteboard is initiated simply by choosing Microsoft Whiteboard (or Freehand or other available 3rd party application) from the share tray.

how to see presentation in teams

I have found out that sometimes when you start sharing Microsoft Whiteboard to the meeting using Teams web client it doesn’t do anything. The solution is to try again.

Once the Whiteboard opens you can work on it normally – or choose to open it in the Whiteboard app to have a broader set of tools available.

When you are done you can choose the “Stop presenting” that is hovering on the left bottom area (left of meeting toolbar).

Teams mobile: sharing a screen

Were you aware that you can also share content using your mobile device? I have examples and screenshots using a Android device but these also work with iOS – the user interface might be slightly different.

You initiate the sharing via … menu selection in the mobile to open the list of options

how to see presentation in teams

You choose Share and you get to choose what to share

how to see presentation in teams

Yes – you can share your mobile device screen to the meeting. This is really useful if you have a application you want to show or train to others.

You may have to adjust settings to turn on allowing Teams to display over other apps.

how to see presentation in teams

After that one you may have reshare the screen. And you get the next warning.

how to see presentation in teams

And your screen is now shared. You can see the red block that lets you know what are of your mobile device screen has been shared.

how to see presentation in teams

And if you pull down notifications area you have option to return to Teams meeting (if you have been using some other app) and there is also the notification that you are sharing your screen.

When you are done sharing you can return to Teams meeting and then choose to Stop presenting.

Teams mobile: sharing a PowerPoint

Sharing a PowerPoint works really well on Teams mobile! It is in fact even better than the version in other clients.

You start by imitating the sharing (as with screen share) and choosing the PowerPoint instead. You get a screen:

how to see presentation in teams

From this screen you can choose to browser thought

  • A PowerPoint presentation from any Team and channel you belong to!
  • Choose a PowerPoint presentation you opened or edited most recently (as you notice compared to other examples that this isn’t 1:1 in sync.. There are differences so that is why I am really happy that you can browse through Teams for sharing)

Once you have selected the PowerPoint to present it is very straight forward from that moment.

how to see presentation in teams

Using Teams mobile you can also take control of a PowerPoint someone else is presenting (if you are a presenter in the meeting). This means that you can participate in a multi-presenter meeting quite easily by using just your mobile device and Teams!

how to see presentation in teams

You will get a warning before you take the control – in case you pressed Take Control accidentally.

how to see presentation in teams

Teams mobile: sharing a photo or video

Follow the steps laid out earlier and instead of screen or PowerPoint you select this time a picture (from device’s picture gallery) or a video (using device’s video camera). Since sharing a picture is very straight forward I use the video instead as example.

how to see presentation in teams

You get to see a preview of video first. You can switch to other camera (front/back usually) & position the device properly and once you are ready you just hit Start presenting .

And when you are done you can press on “Stop presenting” to end your video feed.

how to see presentation in teams

This video is different from showing your own video using Camera icon the meeting toolbar. Instead of being a attendee video this one is shown in the shared area for every participant in the meeting. This is useful when you have something in the same room/space that you want to share to others in the meeting. Possible use cases: a model on table, physical whiteboard, view from the window, interviewing someone, view in the outside, …

Best practices from my experience

The way I use to share content when in Microsoft Teams meetings is

  • I share one of my screens (I have three screens so this is a natural choice for me). This way I know what is being shared all the time since I always share the same screen (the one in the middle, my camera is on top of that screen). Be careful what you drag to the shared screen. This is the way I share my PowerPoint presentations (projecting the presentation to the shared screen)
  • If you have a touch-screen device (like Surface-laptop) you should use pen/inking to enhance the presentation experience. This also works when you are sharing the external screen & presenting from touch-screen device: make your presentation stand out!
  • Prepare the content you share in advance. Open PowerPoints, apps, browsers etc so you don’t have to spend any time with them when you are live.
  • Share your screen early rather than later. This will give you time to reshare.
  • When doing a presentation with multiple persons using just the PowerPoint deck share it directly to Teams meeting so you can switch between speakers easily. With the new Presenter view -support this is now a good option.
  • Make use of Teams features: Put everyone but real presenters else as attendee so they can’t start sharing their screen accidentally – and you can hard mute them as well. Use meeting options -setting before they join in.
  • When people complain they don’t see the share: check that you are actually sharing your screen. If someone is seeing your share and some others not: those who can’t see your share need to leave and rejoin the meeting. Sometimes restarting your sharing can fix that issue too but usually the issue is in the participant end.
  • I rarely use application / window -sharing.
  • Sharing a video in Teams meeting (or in Live event) is usually ok but you can expect some quality drop – especially if you have a lower bandwidth. Have a backup link to the video available. People seem to struggle more with videos embedded inside a PowerPoint.
  • Use Windows Focus Assist and Teams Do Not Disturb mode so you don’t get any unwanted popups on your shared screen. Microsoft Teams will also have a upcoming feature (currently usable in public preview) that let’s users to choose if Teams notifications do their own “toast” (pop-up banner) or do they go directly to Windows notification area (honoring the Focust Assist setting).
  • Use Teams Desktop version + new meeting experience when possible. Check that you have the latest version.

You will now see the Presenter View appear on your primary screen, and your presentation on the secondary screen. Here, you’ll be able to see your notes in one section, along with the next slide and timing for each slide.

To advance to the next slide, use the arrow keys on your keyboard, or click on the forward button located at the bottom of the presenter view section.

If you wish to make any quick annotations or highlight points during the presentation, you can use the laser pointer tool, which will make it easier for the audience to follow your cues.

Once done with the presentation, press the “Esc” key to exit the presentation mode.

Tips for Using the Presenter View in PowerPoint on Teams

There are some essential tips and tricks that you should keep in mind when using the Presenter View in PowerPoint on Teams. Firstly, adjust the settings to match your needs and preferences. Adjust the font, text size, and color of the notes to get the attention of your audience. Also, keep a reliable internet connection and a computer that can handle a high-graphic presentation. This will ensure that you enjoy a seamless experience, with no interruptions or delays. Additionally, keep your notes organized and labelled in a clear and logical manner, for easy reference when presenting.

Troubleshooting Common Issues When Viewing Notes in PowerPoint on Teams

Despite the ease of use of PowerPoint on Teams, there are some common issues that can arise when viewing notes. For instance, if you have a low-quality video or network problem, the notes and slides might not display correctly. The fix is to ensure that you have a high-quality connection and adjust the display resolution of your presentation. Also, ensure that your PowerPoint software is up-to-date, and avoid opening too many files at once, as this can make the software crash and your notes inaccessible.

Best Practices for Using Presenter View in PowerPoint While Presenting on Teams

To make the most of the Presenter View in PowerPoint presentation on Teams, it’s essential to follow best practices for its use. Some of these include choosing a well-lit and quiet place to present, using a high-quality microphone, and maintaining eye contact with the camera if presenting virtually. Additionally, continually referring to your notes and utilizing the laser pointer tool can help to reinforce your arguments and improve your delivery. Finally, ensure that you engage your audience during the presentation by asking questions, responding to feedback, and keeping them interested throughout the presentation.

Advanced Techniques: Customizing the Presenter View in PowerPoint on Teams

There are some advanced customization options that you could take advantage of when using the Presenter View in PowerPoint on Teams. For instance, you can customize the gradient or solid color of your background, amend the size and location of the notes section, and adjust the timing for the presentation. How to Take Advantage of the Laser Pointer Tool in Presenter View on Teams

Please select the “Laser Pointer” option to activate the tool, and then click on the slide where you wish to use the pointer.

Maximizing Your Presentation Impact with Notes and Annotations on Teams

You can choose to add comments, highlights, or even bold text to your notes, which can help to reinforce your points and communicate more effectively with your audience. Annotations, on the other hand, can help emphasize a point, establish credibility, elicit emotions, or even create more interactivity with your audience.

Comparing Presenter View Versus Normal View: Which is Better for Your Presentation?

When it comes to presenting on Teams with PowerPoint, you have the option of using the Presenter View or the Normal View. While the latter option might be more straightforward and more accessible, Presenter View offers substantial benefits like seeing the next slide and having your notes visible alongside the slides. This helps to keep your presentation more organized and engaging. On the other hand, Normal View offers a more straight forward approach, and is ideal for short, less detailed presentations. Ultimately, the choice between Presenter View and Normal View comes down to the specific needs of your presentation and your audience, and what will work best to help you deliver the most effective results.

Finally, ensure that everyone has access to the notes and annotations, and that everyone follows the same presentation guidelines to ensure an organized and effective presentation.

how to see presentation in teams

What to do if you can’t see a shared presentation or video in Teams?

A few days ago, i was participating in a Microsoft Teams meeting with several colleagues and customers. I then noticed that the presenter was describing a slide which i wasn’t able to see. I then opened a private chat with a colleague and quickly understood that the presentation was fully visible to other participants but not to me.

In this short post i would like to describe the simple troubleshooting process i went through to be able to access that presentation. I use a Windows 10 operating system, so this should be relevant for previous Windows versions. Took 2 minutes and i was up and running.

Can’t join / view Microsoft Teams presentation – how to fix?

Step #1: check your network.

I initially thought the issue was related to my Virtual Private Network connection (VPN). I disconnected, and the issue wasn’t solved. I then look into the WIFI signal in home office – all good. Problem still there.

Step #2: Re-start Microsoft Teams

Quit and restart the Microsoft Teams app.

  • From the Windows taskbar (bottom of your screen), find the Microsoft Teams icon.
  • Make a right Click and hit Quit .
  • Then from taskbar hit the Search icon (Magnifying Glass).
  • Then type Microsoft Teams and hit Enter to launch the application.
  • Next step was to try again to view the presentation, again – no luck.

Want to become a Microsoft Teams power user?

Step #3: Clear Teams cache

My third step was to reset the application cache. Here’s how that is done:

  • First off, quit Microsoft Teams. Note that Teams won’t allow you to clear the cache if the app is still running in the background.
  • From the Task bar, hit the Search button. Alternatively, use the Windows button + S shortcut.
  • Type %appdata% .
  • The Windows Explorer dialog will open. Now navigate to the Microsoft folder.
  • You’ll see a folder named Teams . Make a copy of that folder, and store it in a safe place in your PC.
  • Now enter the Teams folder and delete the Cache folder.
  • Restart Teams, the problem should be gone.

Follow up question: How to Share Powerpoints in Teams Meetings

Here is a question from Wendy:

Hello folks, i work as a consulting in an IT software firm. So far used Webex and now transitioned to Microsoft Teams. I understand that there are several techniques to share pptx slides in Microsoft Teams for Windows. Specifically i am interested to share my presentation without showing the presenter notes to the participants (i still would like to view my notes though). One extra requirement is to be able to view the participants list and video feed of those connecting using their cameras. Any pointers are appreciated.

Thanks for the question. There are several ways to show your slides in a Teams meeting. We’ll focus on the most prevalent ones.

  • Using the PowerPoint Slide view shared over Teams.
  • Using your PowerPoint Presenter View and two screens
  • Using the Microsoft Teams PowerPoint live sharing

Note: We developed this answer using Windows but this will work almost perfectly in PowerPoint and Teams for macOS.

Share the PowerPoint Slide View

This is probably the simplest and most straightforward option for sharing slides.

  • First off, open PowerPoint and load your presentation.
  • Then start or connect to your Teams meeting from your Calendar; or start a new Team meeting.
  • Use the Teams share tray to start sharing your desktop.

how to see presentation in teams

  • Then pick the Screenshare (Desktop/Window) option.

how to see presentation in teams

  • Choose to share the content of one of your screens or the relevant PowerPoint presentation window.
  • Hit Share .
  • Back to PowerPoint, move to Slide Show view by clicking F5. This will allow to share your PowerPoint presentation in full screen mode.

Summary : Note that although this method is pretty simple it has shortcomings. Unless you have two screens you won’t be able to access your notes. You won’t also be able to view the Teams meeting controls when presenting, so you’ll be able to display the participants list or access the meeting chat while presenting.

Present your slides using Presenter View

If you have two screens you are able to use the PowerPoint presenter View.

  • Open PowerPoint and load your Presentation slides.
  • From the PowerPoint Ribbon hit Slide Show .
  • Then in the Monitor section tick Use Presenter View .
  • Then hit F5 (or select Slide Show and then From Beginning ).
  • Now access your Teams meeting from your Teams or Outlook Calendar.
  • In the Teams Meeting controls sharing tray , select Screenshare and then select the monitor that displays your slide in full screen.
  • Hit Share , and present your slides.
  • This is a more robust method, which allows you to see your notes when presenting, but it requires more than one screen. It also doesn’t allow you to access the Teams user interface and view the participants list etc’.

Using PowerPoint Live to present in Teams

You can now use PowerPoint live capability to improve your presentation delivery in Teams.

  • First off, upload your Presentation to a Teams channel or OneDrive.
  • Then access your Teams Meeting from Outlook or the Teams Calendar.
  • Next, from the meeting control, select the PowerPoint presentation you would like to share. In the example below, we have only one presentation available named Share.pptx.

how to see presentation in teams

  • If you see your Presentation in the list, you can use the Browse button (as shown above) to either upload a presentation to Teams, browse from existing presentations shared in your Channel or pick one from OneDrive.
  • Once the presentation is picked you’ll see your Teams live PowerPoint view.

how to see presentation in teams

  • As you can see, the presenter view in Teams allows you to access the your notes. Obviously the meeting participants will see the full screen view . Note that both you and participants will be able to move back and forth between the slides as needed.
  • You can use the Teams meeting controls (from the lower part of the screen) to view the Team conversation and participant list.

This capability is a very cool option for presenters. Main drawback being that given the fact that it currently leverages the web version of PowerPoint, there might be some features and animations that might not fully work in PowerPoint live.

How to see yourself as you present a Microsoft Teams meeting

If you’ve had any experiences with presentations you’ve likely found the best presentation in the world can fall flat with a dull presenter or faceless voice. Albeit, it’s quite difficult to make the most of your presentation when you cannot confirm you’re presenting your content as intended.

You can see yourself as you present a Microsoft Teams meeting and examine your presentation using the spotlight mechanic within Teams; enter it by following these steps:

  • Open the Microsoft Teams application
  • Prepare a meeting
  • Start the meeting with your video feed enabled
  • Right-click your video output
  • Select spotlight for everyone
  • Click the presentation icon
  • Select a presentation mode
  • Select an application to present

You can keep your video feed visible all the time (to you and others) by using the spotlight mechanic in conjunction with a second display— a single large display may also work. During your presentation, you will find you can cycle between three presentation modes that keep you visible. We’ll be discussing those later, as well as the ideal meeting setup.

You can access content faster with these links:

  • How do I enable spotlight for presentation in a Teams’ meeting
  • Which presentation mode should I use in a Teams’ meeting

Ideal presentation configuration for Teams’ meeting

Blog post recap, how do i enable spotlight for presentation in a teams’ meeting.

The “spotlight” mechanic is used to make a user the focus of a meeting. Spotlight is visible to participants as a highlight encasing your video output,

Step 1 — Enable spotlight

After starting a meeting, find your video feed and give it a right-click— you’ll notice a menu appear. Click “ Spotlight for everyone ” in the menu.

how to see presentation in teams

Step 2 — Present an application

In the top right by the red “ Leave ” button, you will find an upward-facing arrow icon; the “ Share content ” icon can be clicked to begin setting up a presentation. To ensure you’re visible whilst presenting, switch your “ presenter mode ” to “ stand out ,” “ side-by-side ,” or “ reporter .”

Step 3 — Pin and present

In the bar above the application you’re presenting, select the “ pin ” icon; the bar can be used to alter your presentation mode mid-presentation or more easily halt your presentation entirely.

Which presentation mode should I use in a Teams meeting to see myself while presenting?

As a presenter in a Teams’ meeting, you have access to four “ presenter modes ;” albeit, one mode is unneeded for us and thus shall not be discussed— the primary reason being that the mode doesn’t include you in your presentation.

how to see presentation in teams

Presenter mode overview

While no presenter mode is particularly bad they each have their pros and cons which make them more suitable for different kinds of presentations.

Side-by-sideThe “ ” mode displays your webcam output alongside your presented window— focus in this mode appears equally divided.Your presentation requires equal focus with yourself.
Stand outThe “ ” mode places significant focus on your presented application. You’re are displayed atop the application with your background removed. You wish to be a part of your presentation without taking too much focus off of the presented application.
ReporterThe “ ” mode places significant focus on you, although your presented application is still quite visible. You wish to present an application without drawing significant focus from yourself.

If you’re going to be presenting to your Office from home for the first time, you may be wondering what the ideal set-up looks like. Fortunately, it’s quite easy to attain. All you need is an adequate light source, a half-decent computer, and a webcam. Microsoft Teams’ background effects will handle the rest.

how to see presentation in teams

Your video setup

To begin, initiate a meeting in Teams. In the setup window, click the toggle by the camera icon— it’s at the left side of the window. Next to the toggle is a “ Background filters ” field, click it; to the right of the window, a list of filters will be generated.

how to see presentation in teams

In the above example, I demonstrate the blur filter— one ideal if you’d like to conceal your background subtly. I additionally present the “ Contemporary Office 2 ” filter which can be used to replace your background. I recommend “ Contemporary Office 2 ” due to its minimal lighting requirements to function well. However, there are of course more.

Just name a few:

  • Traditional Office 1
  • EDU Background Bridge
  • Halo Valley (personal favourite of mine)

Your audio setup

Next up is your audio— what your colleagues can see means very little if you can’t discuss it. Start by ensuring “ Computer audio ” is checked— as shown below. Next, enable the toggle under “ PC Mic and speakers ” labeled with a microphone icon. Lastly, look to the new panel on the right; use the dropdowns under “ Device settings ” to ensure you have selected a speaker and microphone to use.

Some useful pointers :

  • Your speaker will be your output device; the output device plays your colleague’s audio back to you.
  • Your microphone be your input device; the input device detects and transmits your audio to your colleague.
  • You can additionally enable “ noise suppresion ” to reduce ambiant background audio and give your words greater clarity.

how to see presentation in teams

You can keep yourself in view whilst presenting by taking advantage of Teams’ presenter modes and spotlight mechanic. Three presenter modes exist with varying purposes to suit your needs. For the best setup, I recommend utilizing background filters to conceal clutter and minimize distractions whilst presenting. Lastly, be sure to properly configure your audio settings so you’re able to hear and speak with colleagues.

After a four-year wait, fans are gearing up for the  Paris 2024 Summer Olympics  (beginning on Friday, July 26, 2024). Team USA men's gymnastics team is gearing up to deliver one stellar performance after the next on the team's pursuit of gold.

Keep reading below to find out when and how to watch Team USA men's gymnastics at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

When are the gymnastics events at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games?

Olympic gymnastics is scheduled to run from July 27 through August 5, 2024. The men's team final is Monday, July 29 at 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. ET.

Where can you watch the Olympic men's gymnastics events?

Men's gymnastics at the 2024 Paris Olympics will air on NBC, USA Network and E!, and will stream on Peacock .

How to watch the Olympic men's gymnastics events without cable

While many cable packages include NBC and the other channels broadcasting the 2024 Summer Olympics, it's easy to watch the 2024 Summer Olympics gymnastics events if those channels aren't included in your  cable TV subscription , or if you don't have cable at all. Your best options for watching are below. (Streaming options will require an  internet provider .)

Watch Olympic men's gymnastics events on Peacock

In addition to major sporting events like the 2024 Paris Olympics, Peacock offers its subscribers live-streaming access to NFL games that air on NBC and sports airing on USA Network. The streaming service has plenty more live sports to offer, including Big Ten basketball, Premier League soccer and WWE wrestling (including formerly PPV-only events such as WrestleMania ). There are 80,000 hours worth of recorded content to watch as well, including hit movies and TV series such as "The Office" and "Parks and Recreation."

A Peacock subscription costs $8 per month. An annual plan is available for $80 per year (best value). You can cancel anytime.

Top features of Peacock:

  • Peacock's Olympic coverage will include "multi-view" options in which fans can curate their viewing journey, choosing the Olympic events they are most interested in watching.
  • Peacock will air exclusive coverage of PGA Tour events, Olympic trials and Paris Olympics 2024 events.
  • Peacock features plenty of current and classic NBC and Bravo TV shows, plus original programming such as the award-winning reality show "The Traitors."

Stream Olympic men's gymnastics events on Sling TV

For streaming the Paris Olympics -- and for streaming all the must-watch college football and NFL games to follow this fall -- we like Sling TV. The  cable TV replacement option  offers packages that include your local NBC station starting at $45 per month, or $70 for two months (special prepay offer). You also get access to E! and USA Network (including 400 hours of Olympics programming on USA in 4K resolution). We like that there's a $11 per month sports add-on plan called Sports Extra and the option to add on  Paramount+  if you want to catch even more sporting events this fall.

Tap the button below to sign up for Sling TV.

Top features of Sling TV Orange + Blue plan:

  • Sling TV is our top choice for streaming major sporting events like NASCAR .
  • There are 46 channels to watch in total, including local NBC, Fox and ABC affiliates (where available).
  • You get access to most local NFL games and nationally broadcast games at the lowest price.
  • All subscription tiers include 50 hours of cloud-based DVR storage.
  • You can add Golf Channel, NBA TV, NHL Network, NFL RedZone, MLB Network, Tennis Channel and more sports-oriented channels (19 in total) via Sling TV's Sports Extras add-on.

Watch Olympic men's gymnastics events airing on network TV with Fubo

You can also catch the 2024 Summer Olympics airing on network TV on  Fubo . Fubo is a sports-centric streaming service that offers access to network-aired sports like the Tour de France , and almost every NFL game next season. Packages include the live feed of sports and programming airing on CBS, Fox, NBC, ESPN, NFL Network and more, so you'll be able to watch more than just the Summer Olympics- all without a cable subscription.

To watch the 2024 Summer Olympic Games gymnastics events without cable, start a seven-day free trial of Fubo . You can begin watching immediately on your TV, phone, tablet or computer. In addition to Olympic events, you'll have access to NFL football, Fubo offers NCAA college sports, MLB , NBA, NHL, MLS and international soccer games. Fubo's Pro Tier is priced at $80 per month after your free seven-day trial.

Sports fans will want to consider adding on the $7.99 per month Fubo Extra package, which includes MLB Network, NBA TV, NHL Network, Tennis Channel, SEC Network and more channels. Or upgrade to the Fubo Elite tier and get all the Fubo Extra channels, plus the ability to stream in 4K, for an extra $10 per month.

Top features of Fubo Pro Tier:

  • There are no contracts with Fubo -- you can cancel at any time.

  • The Pro tier includes over 180 channels, including NFL Network and Golf Channel.
  • Fubo includes all the channels you'll need to watch college and pro sports, including CBS (not available through Sling TV).
  • All tiers come with 1,000 hours of cloud-based DVR recording.
  • Stream on your TV, phone, and other devices.

Watch Olympic men's gymnastics events on Hulu + Live TV

You can watch the 2024 Summer Olympics and more top-tier sports coverage, including NFL Network, with  Hulu + Live TV . The bundle features access to 90 channels, including Golf Channel. Unlimited DVR storage is also included. Watch the 2024 Summer Olympic Games and every NFL game on every network next season with Hulu + Live TV,  plus exclusive live regular season NFL games, popular studio shows (including NFL Total Access and the Emmy-nominated show Good Morning Football) and lots more.

Hulu + Live TV comes bundled with ESPN+ and Disney+ for $77 per month.

Watch Olympic men's gymnastics events live with a digital HDTV antenna

newdigitalantenna.png

You can also watch the 2024 Summer Olympic Games gymnastics events airing on network TV with an affordable indoor antenna, which pulls in local over-the-air HDTV channels such as CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, PBS, Univision and more. Here's the kicker: There's no monthly charge.

For anyone living in a partially blocked-off area (those near mountains or first-floor apartments), a  digital TV antenna  may not pick up a good signal -- or any signal at all. But for many homes, a digital TV antenna provides a seriously inexpensive way to watch sports without paying a cable company. Indoor TV antennas can also provide some much-needed TV backup if a storm knocks out your cable.

This ultra-thin, multi-directional Mohu Leaf Supreme Pro digital antenna with a 65-mile range can receive hundreds of HD TV channels, including ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, Fox and Univision, and can filter out cellular and FM signals. It delivers a high-quality picture in 1080p HDTV, top-tier sound and comes with a 12-foot digital coax cable.

This antenna is currently $56 at Amazon, reduced from $70 with coupon.

The first trove of medals were awarded this weekend at the Paris Olympics but medals weren't the only prize handed to the athletes.

At the medal ceremony for the Rugby Sevens on Saturday, players from the winning teams — France, Fiji and South Africa — were handed a slim cardboard box.

According to the Olympics , the mysterious gift is an official poster for the Games. This summer, medal-winning athletes will be presented with a poster alongside a bronze, silver or gold medal.

The posters were designed by Parisian illustrator Ugo Gattoni. In an interview with the Olympics back in March, Gattoni said the illustrations took him four months and 2,000 hours to create.

The colorful posters — all done by hand — are packed with details and symbolism, paying homage to both the world's biggest sporting event and the city of love. Some of the details include a gold medal , the Paris Olympic mascot , the boats featured at the opening ceremony , breakdancing as well as iconic French monuments like the Eiffel Tower and the Seine River. (Can you spot them all in the animation below?) Fans can also buy the posters at the Olympics shop online.

Speaking of mascots, medal-winning athletes are also gifted with a plush version of this summer's mascot — the red bonnet, known as the Phrygian cap , famously worn by Marianne, the artistic personification of the free French republic.

The stuffed toy, which is awarded after the medal ceremony, include a gold, silver or bronze medal emblem on the mascot's belly and the word "Bravo" in French on the back of the plushie, according to the Olympics.

Medalists for the Paralympic Games will also receive a plushie with the word "Bravo" written in Braille.

Simone biles leads u.s. women's gymnastics team to olympic gold, kicking off paris 'redemption tour'.

Atlanta 1996, London 2012, Rio 2016 and now, Paris 2024.

The U.S. women's gymnastics team is golden once again.

After winning the team silver medal in Tokyo, Simone Biles led Team USA back to the top of the Olympic podium, winning a gold medal in Tuesday's team final.

Italy took silver and Brazil the bronze, winning its first Olympic team medal. It was the first Olympic team medal for the Italians since 1928.

Biles officially became the most decorated American gymnast in the history of the Olympic Games with eight medals.

She was previously tied with “Magnificent Seven” star Shannon Miller at seven Olympic medals.

Biles was already the most decorated gymnast in history from any country if you include world championship medals in the tally. She now has 38 combined world and Olympic medals.

Today's gold extends a 32-year medal streak at the Olympics for the U.S. women, beginning at the 1992 Barcelona Games. It's their fourth team gold medal.

Biles clinched the gold with a gravity-defying routine on floor, tumbling to the music of Taylor Swift and performing two of her eponymous skills.

Artistic Gymnastics - Olympic Games Paris 2024: Day 4

"We had the most fun I've ever had at a meet," Suni Lee said after they won gold. "It's super special because we all knew how much we wanted it, we put in the work and did everything that we needed to do."

Biles shared the team's pre-competition ritual, which involved "bumping music, loud."

"We were just having a good time while we were getting ready," Biles said. "And we all knew what the job was once we got in here."

The U.S. kicked off their night on the vault, where they built strong momentum heading into the uneven bars. Lee anchored their bars lineup with a gutsy routine that expertly juggled risk and reward, earning a 14.566.

A fall off the beam from Jordan Chiles sent a jolt of nerves through the U.S. team in the third rotation, but Lee got them back on track with a confident exercise. Biles narrowly averted disaster on a side aerial, the easiest skill in her beam routine, but managed to stay on.

Team USA has several points of difficulty advantage, so Chiles' missed routine had little impact on their gold medal chances. She more than redeemed herself on floor, where she served up high-flying acrobatics and magnetic stage presence in equal measure, tumbling to Beyoncé.

Reigning Olympic floor champion Jade Carey performed just one routine, a Cheng on vault that earned a 14.800. She sat out floor in the final after a disastrous qualifying routine, when she appeared to get lost in the air on her double tuck, doing only a full tuck and rolling backward, out of bounds.

Carey said in a  post on X  that she “hasn’t been feeling the best” while in Paris and hadn't eaten in several days before Sunday's qualifying.

Hezly Rivera, 16, was the team’s only newcomer and did not compete in Tuesday’s final. She will still receive a medal for her contributions to the team in the qualifying round.

Heading into the Paris Olympics, the U.S. women weren't afraid to say it — they wanted that gold medal.

Simone Biles called Paris a “redemption tour” for the Tokyo returners.

“I feel like we all have more to give and our Tokyo performances weren’t the best,” Biles said at the Olympic trials in Minneapolis . “We weren’t under the best circumstances, either, but I feel like we have a lot of weight on our shoulders to go out there and prove that we’re better athletes.”

Image: US' Simone Biles and teammates celebrate

Even Suni Lee, who came away from Tokyo with the all-around gold medal, was hungry to achieve Olympic glory with her teammates by her side.

“I think this time around, we’re so much more mature and know what we can do and what we can’t do,” Lee said.

Two Olympic all-around champions will go head to head in the all-around final for the first time. Biles and Lee contend for gold in that event on Thursday.

Olympic gymnastics live updates: Simone Biles, USA win gold medal in team final

PARIS – The U.S. women’s gymnastics team had framed it as a redemption tour. But in the end, it was more of a clinic, a showcase – a dominant show of twisting and acrobatic force.

Led by the incomparable Simone Biles , the Americans coasted to yet another Olympic gold medal Tuesday night at Bercy Arena, finishing atop the podium for the third time in the four most recent trips to the Summer Games. They finished nearly six points ahead of the silver medal winners Italy, with Brazil grabbing bronze. It was never really close.

"It was super exciting. We had fun. We enjoyed each other's time out there, and we just did our gymnastics," Biles said.

Less than 48 hours after overcoming calf pain in qualifying , Biles competed – and excelled – in all four events , starting the night with a soaring Cheng vault and ending it with her signature floor routine, set in part to the music of Taylor Swift.

"I think it speaks volumes of her strength," said Chellsie Memmel, technical director for the U.S. women. "What she was able to come back from with the whole world watching — and a world watching with a magnifying glass again, just waiting to see what she was going to do.

"We all knew she could do it like. That wasn't ever a question in my mind that she could do it, and it continues to just solidify her place as the greatest gymnast of all the time."

Biles' teammates also more than did their parts.  Suni Lee , the reigning Olympic all-around champ, was masterful on balance beam and strong on uneven bars. Jordan Chiles, like Biles, competed in all four events and finished with just one notable mistake, on balance beam. And Jade Carey, who has been nursing an illness , hit a terrific vault in her only event of the night. (Hezly Rivera, who competed in qualifying, did not participate in the three-up, three-count format.)

More from Paris: Simone Biles' redemption and Paris Olympic gold medal was for herself, U.S. teammates

“Having this opportunity definitely felt really good,” Chiles said. “And being able to be a part of winning this gold medal and everything that I've just gone through, it's just been an amazing experience. So, I'm really just proud of each and every one of us that are up here. This smile is always gonna be smiling because it's just been an amazing experience.”

After the Fierce Five and the Final Five, this group – led by Biles – had talked about wanting to redeem itself after taking home silver at the 2021 Tokyo Games. "The four of them called it their redemption tour — that they certainly did," Memmel said.

It was at those same Olympics, and in this team final, where Biles withdrew from competition abruptly with what she later revealed was a case of the "twisties," which left her feeling disoriented and unsafe while twisting through the air. Perhaps it was fitting then that, in her first event of the final, she was back on vault – and back twisting with confidence in her Cheng vault, which is one of the most difficult in the world.

"As soon as I landed vault, I was like, 'Oh yeah we’re gonna do this,'" Biles said.

It was clear, from the start, that tonight would be different. All four gymnasts who competed for Team USA were also on the team in Tokyo, where restrictive COVID-19 measures had left the arena mostly and eerily empty. So after the U.S. won gold on Tuesday night, one of Biles' coaches, Cecile Landi, was asked what it too to get here over the last three years — for Biles and the team.

"A lot. That's all I have to say. A lot. It's been a roller coaster over the past three years, with a lot of good times and very difficult times," Landi said. "So today's just amazing."

On Tuesday, Biles' parents and husband, Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens , were able to watch and cheer for the Americans from the bleachers. The crowd also featured big-name celebrities and sports figures, including Michael Phelps, Serena Williams, Natalie Portman and Nicole Kidman. Chants of "U-S-A" rang out sporadically after almost every rotation, and American flags waved throughout the stands.

They had plenty to cheer for, of course, thanks to Biles and company. With Tuesday's gold, the 27-year-old passed Shannon Miller for the most Olympic medals won by an American gymnast . She now has eight – and perhaps a few more on the way over the next week, with the all-around and apparatus finals still to come.

"We know if they do their normal gymnastics, it should be good enough and that's what we really focused on," Landi said.

Simone Biles has more Olympic medals than any other American gymnast

Simone Biles and the U.S. women's gymnastics team  winning gold in the team final  gives Biles more Olympic medals than any other American gymnast. She has eight Olympics medals in three Games, breaking the tie she had with  Shannon Miller . It also gives her 38 combined Olympic and world championships medals, which is more than all other teams combined.

"Honestly, I would’ve had to Google that, I’m not really sure, I don’t keep count, I don’t keep stats," Biles said Tuesday night. "I just go out here and do what I love. It’s amazing now that I hear it, but I don’t think I’ll truly understand the depth of it until I walk away from the sport."

Simone Biles' beam score

Biles appeared to almost lose her balance on a wolf turn, then did lose her balance on an aerial, clinging to the edge of the beam with her toes. But she didn't let the wobble turn into a fall, and ultimately, her score of 14.366 was still be one of the higher marks of the night.

Simone Biles ' uneven bars score

Simone Biles isn't a big fan of the uneven bars, nor is she quite as dominant on that apparatus as the other three. But she was smooth and steady in her routine, nearly sticking the landing en route to a score of 14.400. And she was grinning wide as soon as her feet hit the ground.

The U.S. gymnasts look almost relaxed as they reach the midway point, while some of their would-be rivals have already suffered mistakes. Both Brazil and China had falls on the balance beam in this rotation, which could only widen the gap between Team USA and the rest of the field.

Simone Biles' vault score

Simone Biles didn't do her signature Yurchenko double pike , opting for the second-hardest difficult vault being done these days. Biles scored a 14.9 for her Cheng, which included a small hop on the landing. She smiled and exchanged high fives with coach Laurent Landi and then Cecile Landi, who is both Biles' co-coach and coach of the U.S. women here in Paris.

That Biles opted for the "easier" vault isn't a surprise. First, the U.S. didn't need it. Though the Yurchenko double pike is worth 0.8 points more than the Cheng, they still posted 44.1 points on the rotation. Second, Biles tweaked her left calf in qualifying. There's no reason to push it.

Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles beam scores

The Americans gave themselves enough of a cushion on vault and uneven bars that they could have afforded to make a mistake or two — and still win gold. That meant Jordan Chiles' fall when mounting the beam wasn't reason to panic. Chiles recovered from the mistake and was relatively clean for the rest of her routine for a score of 12.733, and Suni Lee then followed with an outstanding performance and a 14.600.

Simone Biles' calf was wrapped, but she was walking normally

Simone Biles was walking normally but had a wrap that covered almost her entire left calf. Remember, she tweaked the left calf on floor exercise warmups during qualifying, and briefly left the floor before returning and getting her ankle heavily taped. She remained in the competition and showed no ill effects, posting the highest individual score. Coach Cecile Landi said afterward it was a flareup of an injury that occurred several weeks earlier, but that it wasn't a cause for concern.

Who is Simone Biles married to?

She is married to NFL player Jonathan Owens , who is in the arena, sitting with Biles' parents and wearing a T-shirt with "BILES" on it and a huge photo of his wife in action on it. He landed in Paris on Tuesday morning. In addition to the team final, Owens will be able to watch Biles in the all-around final on Thursday, Aug. 1.

During the first rotation, Owens was seen with a pen in hand, possibly recording scores, as Biles performed her vault routine. Mic’ed up on NBC’s broadcast, Owens let out a healthy “let’s go!” after Biles recorded a 14.900 on the vault, the highest score among the three U.S. gymnasts.

What are the twisties?

Biles missed most of the Tokyo Olympics after developing a case of “ the twisties ,” which caused her to lose her sense of where she was in the air and jeopardized her physical safety.

How does Olympic gymnastics scoring work?

A gymnastics routine gets two scores: One for difficulty, also known as the D score or start value, and one for execution. Every gymnastics skill has a numerical value, and the D score is the sum total of the skills in a routine. The execution score, or E score, reflects how well the skills were done. A gymnast starts with a 10.0, and deductions for flaws and form errors are taken from there. Add the D and E scores together, and that’s your total for an apparatus. (Vault scores will always be higher because it’s a single skill.)

Simone Biles' moves named after her: What to know

Simone Biles has left her mark on the sport of gymnastics. In addition to her record number of medals — she has 37 at the world championships and Olympics, more than any other gymnast, male or female — Biles has five skills named after her. Skills are named after the first gymnast to do them in a major international competition, like the world championships or Olympics. She has two on vault, two on floor exercise and one on balance beam. Here’s are the Simone Biles moves named after her . — Nancy Armour

Simone Biles' Yurchenko double pike: What to know

The Biles II is also known as the  Yurchenko double pike , one of five moves named after Simone Biles . Vaults are categorized by “families,” which are based on the entry. On Yurchenko vaults, a gymnast does a roundoff onto the takeoff board and a back handspring onto the table. Biles then follows it with a double somersault in the piked position.

Few men even try this vault, which is so difficult because of the power it takes to get two somersaults as well as its lack of a bailout. If something goes awry, more likely to land on her head or neck than her knees.

Biles began doing this vault in 2021 but didn’t do it at a worlds or Olympics until the 2023 world championships. With a 6.4 difficulty value, it is the hardest vault in the women’s code.

When Biles did the vault last year, she took a half-point deduction for having coach Laurent Landi standing on the landing mat, ready to step in and redirect her into a safe position if it looked as if she was headed for a scary landing. But neither Biles nor Landi feel the need for him to do that anymore.

The most difficult vault commonly executed by other gymnasts is valued at 5.6, eight-tenths lower than the Biles II, so doing it gives Biles a huge scoring advantage.

Is Simone Biles the greatest gymnast of all time?

Biles is the greatest gymnast of all time . She has consistently dominated the sport for over a decade, which would have been an unimaginable feat just a few years ago as most gymnasts reach their peak in their late teens. Her ability to win is in a class of its own. With 37 Olympic and world championship medals — 27 of which are gold — Biles has won the most of any gymnast in history. She has also not lost an all-around competition since 2013.

Biles redefines the possibilities of her sport not just in her record-breaking number of wins and medals, but also in the unmatched difficulty of the skills she completes. Biles has no less than five skills named after her — two on the vault and floor and one on the balance beam — because she was the first, and in most cases, the only athlete to complete them in competition.

How many Olympic medals does Simone Biles have?

Biles has won eight Olympic medals , five of which are gold. At the 2016 Rio Olympics, Biles won three individual golds in the all-around, vault and floor exercise and led Team USA’s “Final Five” to the team gold. She also added a bronze medal on the balance beam. At the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, Biles added a silver medal in the team event and an additional bronze medal in the balance beam to her hardware collection.

It also sent the most gymnasts, five, to the Olympic trials, and had three more at the  US championships .

"Training with Simone is, like, once in a lifetime," said Roberson,  who moved to WCC after the US championships in 2022 . "She's always so bubbly in the gym. Plus, she can hit. All the time. Like, she never has a bad day, which is insane to me."

How Simone Biles, US Olympic women's gymnastics shattered age stereotype

Simone Biles, 27, is seeking to become the oldest all-around Olympic champion in women's gymnastics in 72 years, and she is one of four athletes on the U.S. team who fit what used to be a rare mold, as repeat Olympians in their 20s. The other three − Jade Carey (24), Jordan Chiles (23) and  Suni Lee  (21) − all competed in college between their two Olympic appearances, which also used to be uncommon. ( Hezly Rivera , 16, rounds out the team.)

With an average age north of 22 years old, it will be the oldest U.S. women's gymnastics team to compete at the Olympics since 1952, according to USA Gymnastics.

"The longevity of this sport has been totally changed. Simone has changed that," Chiles said . not to control everything that I can’t control anymore,” Biles said.

Paris 2024 Olympics Opening Ceremony: All you need to know

A concept design of the parade of athletes on the Seine during the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony.

Ambitious, historic, spectacular – these are some of the words used to describe the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony since the first plans were unveiled three years ago.

Set to be the first Olympic Games Opening Ceremony held outside a stadium , the 26 July celebration will transform the French capital into a stadium and theatre as the traditional parade of athletes takes place in boats along the Seine, passing the most iconic Parisian landmarks.

Here is all you need to know about the Opening Ceremony.

  • Paris 2024 day-by-day highlights: When to catch the top moments from the Olympic Games
  • Twelve of the biggest athletes to watch at Paris 2024

When will the Opening Ceremony be held?

The Opening Ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will take place on Friday, 26 July .

The event will start at 19:30 CEST and is expected to last more than three hours.

Why is this ceremony historic?

Paris 2024 will mark the first time in history of the Olympic Summer Games that the Opening Ceremony is held outside a stadium.

Instead of familiar images of athletes marching out along an athletics track, guests and viewers will be treated to a colourful river parade through the heart of the French capital.

The Seine , the city’s main water artery, will substitute for the traditional track, the quays will become spectator stands , while the setting sun reflecting off famous Parisian landmarks will provide the backdrop for the event.

This outdoor concept also makes Paris 2024 the largest Opening Ceremony in terms of audience and geographical coverage .

What is the route of the parade?

The parade route along the Seine is a visual journey through Parisian history and architecture.

The Austerlitz Bridge next to the Jardin des Plantes is the starting point for the flotilla, which will then continue west for 6 kilometres along the Seine, passing under historic bridges and by iconic landmarks, such as the Notre-Dame and the Louvre , as well as some Games venues, including the Esplanade des Invalides and the Grand Palais .

Grouped on the boats with their national teams, the athletes will ultimately arrive opposite the Trocadero – the esplanade across from the Eiffel Tower – where the official protocols will be carried out, the Olympic cauldron lit, and the Paris 2024 Games officially declared open.

How many athletes will take part?

Almost 100 boats carrying an estimated 10,500 athletes will float along the Seine during the parade. The larger of the 206 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) represented in the parade will have boats to themselves, while the smaller ones will share boats.

Camera equipment set up on the decks will allow spectators to see the athletes up close and witness their emotions.

What entertainment performances can we expect?

Thomas Jolly , a French theatre director and actor, is overseeing the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic ceremonies as artistic director .

While most of the entertainment acts remain under wraps, based on the hints so far, we can expect a show on a grand scale with an eclectic mash up of the old and the new. Speaking to the media in January, Jolly said that he wants to showcase the contrasting cultures of France, be that opera or rap, thus bringing together all the pieces that form the nation's diverse cultural identity.

For his part, ceremonies choreographer Maud Le Pladec promised that every bridge along the parade route will have dancers on it. Le Pladec will lead 400 dancers out of the total 3,000 artists who are set to take part in the Paris 2024 Opening and Closing Ceremonies, all decked out in one-of-a-kind costumes by Daphne Burki .

The French television presenter serves as the costume director for the show, leading a team of hundreds of dressmakers, hair stylists and makeup artists. Burki’s focus on sustainability also means there will be many vintage and upcycled pieces used in the ceremonies, mixed in with newer creations.

What will the athletes be wearing?

Artists will not be the only ones showing their style at the Opening Ceremony. With a line-up of luxury brands designing athlete uniforms, expect the Olympians to shine as well.

Team USA mix preppy jackets with jeans for a cool, all-American look, while Italian athletes will show up in casual, dark blue sets . Hosts France worked with a luxury brand to come up with vests and jackets that tie in with the general Paris 2024 look.

Other teams, such as Canada, Great Britain and Sweden , opted for a more athleisure look, all evoking the colour palettes of their national flags.

Some nations went even further with the patriotic details. Mongolian outfits have already created a buzz on social networks for their intricate embroidery and traditional silhouettes .

Brazil and Guatemala ’s looks are also sure to turn heads. Brazil’s denim jackets feature animals that are native to the country, while the Guatemalan athletes are dressed up in folkloric hats and bags to make a colourful statement on the Seine.

What are the different ways to watch the Opening Ceremony?

Almost 600,000 people will be able to enjoy the Opening Ceremony in person. True to its slogan, “Games Wide Open”, Paris 2024 tried to make the event accessible to as many people as possible by taking it outside of the traditional stadium setting.

There were 222,000 free tickets available to watch the parade from the upper banks of the Seine, in addition to 104,000 paid tickets on the lower quays. This marks the first Opening Ceremony where most spectators will not pay an admission fee – another historic milestone for Paris 2024.

Those in Paris who could not get tickets will be able to watch the Opening Ceremony on 80 giant screens set up throughout the city.

And now we have a look at them!

Biles shared a video of the team taking a bite out of their gold medals, captioned "TASTE GOLDEN ❤️🇺🇸💙."

"turned on post notifs the second I heard the plans 😭 congratsss girls 🥹🫶," the official TikTok account wrote in the comments.

And Lee shared a video of the team lip-synching to audio from the 2005 Grammys when then-Kanye West (now Ye) won best rap album.

"Everybody want to know what I would do if I didn't win," they mouth over the original audio. "I guess we'll never know."

At the end, they hold up their gold medals and pose with them.

"OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALISTSSSS 😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️," Lee captioned the clip.

Simone Biles

There's a reason why they call her the GOAT. Simone Biles led the U.S. women's gymnastics team to victory and earned her eighth Olympic medal at Tuesday's team final. The achievement made her the most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history.

Simone Biles

Biles made her Olympic debut at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, where she won gold in the all-around, team, floor and vault exercises and took home bronze for balance beam.

Simone Biles

At the 2020 Tokyo Games, scooped up two more gold medals before withdrawing from the event after being faced with a bout of the twisties.

According to NBC News , Biles now has 38 world and Olympic medals combined.

Stephen Nedoroscik and the U.S. men's gymnastics team cheer on Suni Lee

One day after the U.S. men’s gymnastics team clinched the bronze medal, team members were captured on camera enthusiastically watching Suni Lee perform her masterful floor routine. Among them was  Stephen Nedoroscik, the team’s pommel horse expert,  who garnered the eye of social media in recent days. Nedoroscik and the rest of his teammates were seen cheering passionately for Lee as she showcased her skills.

Team USA wins gold as Simone Biles brings it home!

Redemption complete! Simone Biles fittingly put the final touches on Team USA's first team gold medal in women's gymnastics since 2016 with her floor exercise routine.

After the heartbreak of the Tokyo Olympics, Biles returned to help the U.S. bring home team gold in Paris, sharing a joyous group hug with her teammates.

She basked in roars of "U-S-A! U-S-A!" after her performance, looking as relieved as she was excited.

"Now that's a comeback," NBC announcer Rich Lerner said.

Italy finished second for its first team medal in women's gymnastics since 1928, while Brazil earned its first team medal in history by taking the bronze.

The U.S. "turned disappointment into dominance," Lerner said.

Jordan Chiles delivers 'an absolute monster' of a floor exercise routine

In one of the biggest moments of her career, Jordan Chiles delivered an electrifying floor exercise routine that had the crowd at Bercy Arena clapping along.

She ended with tears of joy and a roar from the crowd, finishing with a score of 13.966 to put Simone Biles in position to wrap up the gold for Team USA. Like almost every performance by the U.S. today, she improved on her qualifying score of 13.866.

“An absolute monster of a routine for Jordan Chiles,” NBC analyst Laurie Hernandez said. “Quite possibly the best she could’ve done.”

A group of young gymnasts from Chiles' home gym were all dancing along to her routine while watching at the World Champions Centre in Spring, Texas.

You have to see what Jason Kelce is wearing at the Olympics

Jason Kelce is enjoying retirement.

The former Philadelphia Eagles center, who retired after the last NFL season, was spotted at the arena with his wife Kylie Kelce.

He appeared to be wearing a shirt with U.S. women's rugby player Ilona Maher, according to her Instagram story.

Jason Kelce

The two shared an earlier interaction where Maher convinced Kelce to be a women's rugby fan.

“I am officially a fan, women’s rugby, Olympics” he said.

“We got Jason Kelce,” Maher said, sparking cheers from others in the room with them.

Based on his outfit, her speech worked, clearly!

Suni Lee nails her floor exercise routine as Team USA nears gold

Team USA is closing in on the gold after Suni Lee turned in a score of 13.533 in the floor exercise, which is the final event of the competition.

"Oh, that was the best routine she could've done," NBC analyst Laurie Hernandez said.

Lee improved on her 13.100 score in the qualifying round. She performed to music by Lindsey Stirling, the same artist she used for her floor routine at the Tokyo Olympics when she won the all-around gold medal.

She got cheers from country star Keith Urban and his wife, Nicole Kidman, in the crowd.

Who is commenting on gymnastics for NBC?

NBC has two commentators for the team final.

Olympian Laurie Hernandez was part of the Final Five team at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016, along with Simone Biles. She took home a gold medal in the team event and a silver in the balance beam.

Rich Lerner is a longtime sports journalist and an anchor for Golf Central.

Team USA is up big going into the final event for the gold

Team USA is up big and looking to put the finishing touches on their first women's gymnastics team gold medal since 2016 in Rio de Janeiro.

They lead second-place Italy by 3.602 points heading into the floor exercise, the last of their four events. Great Britain is in third, 4.967 points behind Team USA.

Simone Biles avoids a near fall on the beam to keep the U.S. in front

Simone Biles wobbled and nearly fell but recovered on her beam routine to finish with a solid score of 14.366 to keep Team USA in pole position for the gold.

"Any athlete would’ve fallen after that," analyst Laurie Hernandez said. "She was able to save it.”

Hernandez was holding her breath at one point.

"Oh, that scared me," she said.

Biles, who posted a 14.733 on the beam during qualifying, earned a round of applause from retired NFL star Jason Kelce and his wife, Kylie, in the crowd.

What to know about Simone Biles calf injury

The 27-year-old’s personal coach, Cecile Landi, said Biles' calf bothered her for a couple of weeks before the women’s qualification round on July 28, according to NBC News . Landi explained that the pain had subsided for a time up until the qualification round.

Artistic Gymnastics - Olympic Games Paris 2024: Day 2

Ahead of competing in the event, Biles had her left leg taped during warm-ups for her floor exercise routine. Later, she was seen using her foam roller to massage the area.

Landi said after the qualifying round that there were no concerns about Biles being able to compete in the team finals. A reporter also asked the star gymnast after the qualifying round how she was doing .

“As good as I can be,” she responded, according to  CNN .

During qualifying, she turned in a strong routine on the balance beam before appearing to hurt her left leg while warming up for the floor exercise.

Despite the setback, she still posted the highest all-around score (59.566) of any gymnast in the qualifying round and had a top score on the vault (15.8) and floor exercise (14.600).

Biles withdrew from the team competition at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 and only participated in the balance beam in the individual rounds after suffering a bout of “ the twisties .”

Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb went wild for Team USA

The TODAY co-hosts screamed and hooped inside the arena where the U.S. women's gymnastics team won gold for the women’s gymnastics team final.

Earlier at the event, the duo cheered on with gusto as they watched Suni Lee perform.

Guthrie and Kotb could be seen cheering and roaring with enthusiasm as the gymnast stuck her landing for the uneven bars.

"Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb were ALL OF US watching Suni Lee on bars!" reads an  Instagram caption  featuring a post of their reaction.

Suni Lee turns in her 'best' with a strong beam routine

Suni Lee put any fears of Jordan Chiles' fall on the beam snowballing with a sterling beam routine to earn a great score of 14.600.

"Her beam was a bit shaky in qualifications, but here, that was the best she could've done," analyst Laurie Hernandez said. "That is exactly what we like to see."

Lee leaped with joy and a beaming smile after sticking her landing and besting her qualifying score of 14.033.

The sisters of the Auburn University star were seen high-fiving and cheering in the crowd after her routine.

Jordan Chiles falls on beam — but it won't affect Team USA's chance of gold, Hernandez says

Jordan Chiles started her beam routine courting disaster by falling off the beam to the left, but recovered to finish without any other major mistakes for a score of 12.733.

Chiles shook her head as she walked back to the sideline.

NBC analyst Laurie Hernandez was asked if the low score will affect Team USA's chances of gold.

"No," she said. "It just won't. However, of course no one wants a fall to be counted."

Chiles posted a 13.600 on the beam during Sunday's qualifying round.

Simone Biles' husband, Jonathan Owens, is in Paris — wearing a Simone shirt

Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens has made it to Bercy Arena in Paris just in time to cheer on his wife, Simone Biles, and the rest of Team USA.

Owens posted a photo on his Instagram story from inside the venue ahead of today's competition after flying to Paris earlier today. He had an excused absence from the Bears' preseason training camp to come to France to watch Biles compete.

Biles also posted a photo on her Instagram story of Owens on the plane flashing her the peace sign with the caption, “Coming for you baby.”

Jonathan Owens on IG story

Owens shared a quick video on Instagram before takeoff, saying he "can't wait to get there."

Biles has been looking forward to having Owens and her family in Paris compared to the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, when spectators were not allowed.

“I think it’s going to be just like Rio, having family there to support whatever we need, but really just having fun, embracing that moment, making those memories,” she said on TODAY on July 17. “I’m excited that I get to do it with my family.”

Minutes before the competition was set to begin, he posted to his story again — this time, a snap of a crowded arena and an empty events space.

"Almost go time," he wrote.

Ahead of the event, he walked into the arena and showed NBC Sports his outfit: A shirt with Biles' name is bold red lettering.

Suni Lee's sisters cheer for her after her uneven bars routine

Shyenne and Evionn Lee were spotted cheering for their sister, Olympian Suni Lee, after her uneven bars routine.

Suni Lee has five siblings, and all have ben seen supporting her at events.

Suni Lee struggles on uneven bars, but shows she's 'a fighter'

Suni Lee persevered through a mistake in the middle of her uneven bars routine on her way to still finish with a solid score of 14.566.

The reigning all-around Olympic gold medalist, who fell on the bars during warmups, briefly tapped her feet on the ground in the middle of her routine.

Lee, who overcame a kidney disease just to qualify for Paris, scored a 14.866 in the uneven bars in the qualifying round on Sunday.

"She shows often that she’s a fighter, and now she’s showing us on the mat," Hernandez said during her routine.

Team USA continues to look great in the early going.

"It's going to be OK for Team USA, nothing to worry about," Hernandez said about the overall quest for gold.

Natalie Portman among the celebs watching the women's gymnastics team final

Natalie Portman joins the likes of Serena Williams, Spike Lee and Michael Phelps at the Bercy Arena on July 30, watching nail-biting event after nail-biting event. Here, she's seen clapping ... and maybe letting out an exhale of relief.

Jordan Chiles’ parents feel every emotion as she competes

While Chiles, 23, performed at the women's gymnastics team finals, her parents, Timothy Chiles and Gina Chiles, were right there for every emotional twist and turn.

In the stands, her parents were spotted doing what NBC Olympic's X account described as the "mom and dad squirm" as she took to the uneven bars.

They were seen wriggling and shifting uneasily as she performed. When she was done, Chiles' father exploded into the air and proudly beat his chest.

After watching her execute her floor routine, Gina could be seen yelling, "Let's go!" before she burst into tears for her daughter.

Chiles' floor routine earned a score of 13.966.

Michael Phelps cheers on Simone Biles after uneven bars

It was a meeting of the Olympics legends. The world’s most decorated Olympian, Michael Phelps, cheered on Biles from the stands and applauded after she went on uneven bars, clapping enthusiastically.

"He gets it," Rich Lerner said.

"He's one of the few who does," Laurie Hernandez replied. She later said, "I always find it so exciting to watch mind-blowing watch the other."

'A slay': Jordan Chiles' makeup gets a gold

Jordan Chiles stuck the landing on uneven bars ... and did the same for her makeup look.

Online commentators are admiring the high-stakes intensity of the gymnastics team final, and her eye makeup! Chiles has white eyeliner and deep plum lips.

Simone Biles does 'more than enough' with her uneven bars routine

The crowd is roaring and Team USA is rolling after a smiling Simone Biles finished her uneven bars routine with a score of 14.400.

Laurie Hernandez said on NBC that it wasn't one of Biles' best uneven bars routines, but "for team finals, it is more than enough."

"The gap between her and everyone else is the size of the Grand Canyon," NBC announcer Rich Lerner said.

Jordan Chiles hits one of her 'best routines' in uneven bars

Jordan Chiles pumped her fists and yelled "Let's go!" after turning in a strong performance on the uneven bars that earned her an excellent score of 14.366, beating the 14.266 that she had in qualifying.

“If I could scream into a pillow right now I would," analyst Laurie Hernandez said. "I am so proud of her for getting up there and hitting one of the best routines Jordan Chiles could possibly do here in team finals."

Her routine drew cheers from her parents as well as Natalie Portman, Serena Williams and gymnastics legend Nadia Comaneci in the crowd.

Laurie Hernandez gasps during Suni Lee's warmups

As Suni Lee was warming up during the uneven bars, she fell to the ground. Analyst Laurie Hernandez let out a gasp.

"Got to work on those involuntary actions," she said, with a laugh, comparing broadcasting to gymnastics.

Brazil's Flavia Saraiva cut her eye on a fall in warm-ups but still competed on uneven bars

Brazilian gymnast Flavia Saraiva went ahead with her uneven bars routine despite a fall on the bars in warmups in which she suffered a cut above her right eye.

"She left to get medical attention, but she is back," NBC announcer Rich Lerner said. "She's tough."

"There is nothing worse than not just falling in warmups but blanking out and having that moment replay in your mind right before competing," analyst Laurie Hernandez said.

Spike Lee gives Team USA standing ovation

Director Spike Lee was seen cheering on Team USA as they entered the arena.

Team USA's floor exercise music, explained

Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles and Suni Lee all are doing floor routines at the Olympics today.

Chiles' floor routine is set to a Beyoncé medley, various songs include "Black Parade," "End of Time," "Renaissance" songs “My House" and “Energy,” plus “Lose My Breath” by Destiny’s Child.

Biles' also includes Beyoncé — and Taylor Swift, too. Her set features "...Ready For It?’ and "Delresto (Echoes)" by Travis Scott ft. Beyoncé.

Suni Lee's floor routine is set to "Eye of the Untold Her” by Lindsey Stirling.

A 'massive exhale' after Simone Biles continues Team USA's strong start on the vault

Simone Biles continued the early momentum for the U.S. team with a 14.900 in her vault.

"Solid, safe, and cheers," NBC announcer Rich Lerner said on the broadcast.

Vault was the event in which Biles withdrew from the team competition in Tokyo, so she's showing it's a much different story on the "redemption tour" in Paris.

"This was as good as Team USA could kick off the competition for them," analyst Laurie Hernandez said. "I bet gym fans and new fans alike have let out a massive exhale after seeing her do this."

Jade Carey competes on vault, her only event

Jade Carey, the third gymnast, took her position at the vault following a sickness. She followed teammate Jordan Chiles.

She had a 14.666 in qualifications, which is "quite a nice score," according to presenter Hernandez. Ahead of her performance, her coach (and dad) Brian Carey looked on.

Her score was 14.800.

Jordan Chiles starts on vault

Jordan Chiles got Team USA started on vault with a strong score of 14.400, besting her score of 14.333 in the qualifying round.

"Wow, incredible start for Team USA," NBC analyst Laurie Hernandez said on the broadcast after Chiles' vault.

Why Hezly Rivera, 16, won't be competing for Team USA today.

The newest addition to Team USA's star-studded lineup will not be competing today barring an injury to a teammate that requires her to step in.

The 16-year-old from New Jersey, who is the youngest Olympian in any sport on the U.S. team, will not compete after finishing behind Simone Biles, Jade Carey, Jordan Chiles and Suni Lee in Sunday's qualifying round.

Hezly Rivera

Only three gymnasts can compete in each of the four events for each team in the finals. Every score counts in the finals, compared to the qualifying round, where teams can drop the worst of their four scores.

Rivera competed in uneven bars and balance beam during qualifying, finishing behind three of her teammates in both events. Her 13.9 ranked 20th overall in the uneven bars and her 12.633 on the balance beam ranked 46th.

Rivera still gets a gold medal if the U.S. takes the team title, making her one of the younger gold medalists in the history of the U.S. team.

Team USA is in the building!

Simone Biles, Jade Carey, Suni Lee, Hezly Rivera and Jordan Chiles made their entrance at Bercy Arena in Paris around 12:16 p.m. ET.

Biles, Lee, Rivera and Chiles wore white sweat suits. Carey entered in her sparkly red, white and blue leotard. They immediately began warming up.

What are the twisties, and can Simone Biles get them again?

Simone Biles had to drop out of the last Olympics due to the "twisties."

The phenomenon happens when a gymnast is in midair and loses their sense of where they are and how they’ll land, raising the risk of serious injury. Biles described it as being “lost in the air" during an April  episode  of the  podcast “Call Her Daddy”  with  Alex Cooper .

She described the sensation in further detail, likening it to being unable to control a car you drive daily.

“Your mind and your body are at a disconnect. Your body is going to try to do something, and your mind is going to be like, ‘No, you’re not doing this,’” Biles said, adding that in her case, she had no airbags and no seatbelt: “I am my car.”

Biles, who experienced the twisties before the Tokyo Olympics, said the reason for it was likely stress and other psychological factors.

“(The pressure) feels heavy,” she told  TODAY’s Hoda Kotb  in 2021. “It’s like the weight of the world on your shoulders and I’m very small, so I feel like, at times, it’s very overwhelming, but whenever you get so overwhelmed and have triggers, it’s just like — I have to focus on my mental wellbeing and that’s what I did.”

This Olympics, Biles appears to be unhampered by the twisties, and powered through a calf injury to post the highest all-around score of any gymnast in Sunday's qualifying round.

All the records Simone Biles can set if Team USA wins gold

Another medal of any kind would make Simone Biles the most decorated U.S. Olympic gymnast of all time with eight.

She enters today's competition with four gold medals, two bronze and one silver in her Olympic career, which ties her with former two-time Olympian Shannon Miller at 7 Olympic medals. Biles' four gold medals are already a U.S. record for women's gymnastics.

Biles is the most decorated gymnast in history between world championships and the Olympics with 37 total medals.

The 27-year-old superstar would also be the oldest woman to win an Olympic medal in gymnastics in U.S. history.

Winning team gold would give her an outside shot at tying former Soviet Union gymnast Larisa Latynina for the Olympic record of nine gold medals.

Biles would have five career gold medals, with potentially four still up for grabs. She has qualified for the individual all-around vault, balance beam and floor exercise events on Thursday.

Which event could determine if Team USA wins gold if the final is close?

The U.S. enters as a strong favorite to run away with the team gold medal after besting its closest competitor, Italy, by more than five points in the qualifying round.

However, if contenders like Italy, China and Brazil are neck and neck with Team USA throughout the competition, it could come down to the floor exercise for the U.S. to clinch gold.

Artistic Gymnastics - Olympic Games Paris 2024: Day 2

Floor exercise is the last of the four events for Team USA after vault, uneven bars and balance beam. Two of the biggest stars in the event, Simone Biles and Brazil's Rebeca Andrade, finished 1-2 in the floor exercise during qualifying, although Biles had a big gap (14.6 compared to 13.9 points) as the top performer.

Team USA's Jade Carey is the defending individual gold medalist in floor exercise from the Tokyo Olympics, but she will not be competing in the event today. She finished 74th in qualifying with a 10.633 after struggling mightily while feeling under the weather .

That means Biles, Jordan Chiles and Suni Lee will be the ones to bring it home in floor exercise. The event is a strength for Chiles, who finished third in qualifying, while Lee took 24th.

The hope is that the loss of Carey in the event doesn't make it a nerve-rattling finish for Team USA. Even with her struggles in the qualifying round, Team USA still built a big enough lead to win handily.

Brazil and Italy each had three gymnasts in the Top 13 in the floor exercise during qualifying.

What is the Biles II? All about Simone Biles' breathtaking vault

The term "signature skill" for Simone Biles is not just an expression. She actually has five gymnastics skills named after her and another one pending as she continues to push the boundaries of the sport.

None of them may be more spectacular and gravity-defying than the Biles II on the vault, which will be Biles' first event in today's team finals.

She nailed a Biles II during the qualifying round on Sunday on her way to a 15.8, the highest score on the vault of any gymnast.

The breathtaking maneuver involves a back handspring off the vaulting table into a double pike, which is two rotations of the body in pike position.

She became the first gymnast to ever land that combination in an international competition at the 2023 world championships on her way to winning the all-around title. The skill was dubbed the Biles II and has a maximum 6.4 difficulty rating.

No other gymnast in the world has ever completed one in international competition. The degree of difficulty is so high that even if Biles has points deducted for hopping back on her landing, it doesn't dramatically affect her score.

She also has a Biles II on the floor exercise, which involves two flips and three twists and requires immense power to get her high off the floor.

In case you're wondering, the Biles I is a double layout with a half-turn in the floor exercise. There's also a Biles I on the vault, which is a roundoff with a half-twist onto the vaulting table followed by a front double full somersault off the table.

Panama's Hillary Heron, 20, became the only other gymnast to do a Biles I in the floor exercise at the Olympics when she did it during the qualifying round on Sunday.

Who is Team USA's biggest competition for the team gold medal?

The U.S. squad enters as a heavy favorite to win gold. This is the first time in Olympic history that two previous individual all-around Olympic gold medalists enter on the same team, between Suni Lee (2020) and Simone Biles (2016).

Italy finished second behind the U.S. during qualifying, but it was a distant second in gymnastics scoring at more than five points. The Italians have not won a team gymnastics medal in the Olympics since 1928.

Brazilian Gymnast Rebeca Andrade

Jade Carey said she hasn't been feeling well and Biles appeared to be dealing with a lower left leg injury , and Team USA still dominated qualifying. If they are able to repeat that performance and Carey is feeling better today, the U.S. will be very hard to beat.

China and Brazil are also considered a threat. China last won team gold at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Brazil has never won a medal in the Olympic team competition, but is led by all-around star Rebeca Andrade .

The team champion from the Tokyo Olympics, the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), is not competing in Paris because of Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Team USA was the heavy favorite to win in Tokyo before Biles withdrew from the team competition.

China last won team gold at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

Jade Carey has been battling sickness. How is she now?

The 24-year-old gymnast told Olympics.com that an undisclosed illness led to her falling during the floor exercise, the event that earned her a gold medal in Tokyo.

“I just have not been feeling well the past few days and haven’t been able to eat or anything,” she said.

She continued, “I had, like, no energy today and didn’t really have a sense of what was going on in my head. So, I just kind of wanted people to know that so, they know that there’s actually something wrong.”

Carey's mom gave an update on TODAY July 28, saying, “She’s doing much better today. Trying to hydrate, get some food in, ready to go.”

Carey won't get a chance to defend her gold in the floor exercise but she did qualify for the women's vault final.

NBC analyst Laurie Hernandez says Simone Biles is 'doing OK' and ready to perform in the team finals

NBC Olympic gymnastics analyst Laurie Hernandez said on TODAY this morning that she heard Team USA's practice yesterday was "completely normal" amid worries about Simone Biles' calf and Jade Carey's health.

Biles appeared to be fighting through a lower left leg injury during Sunday's qualifying, while Carey struggled in her signature event, the floor exercise, and later said she wasn't feeling well . Hernandez, who was part of the 2016 U.S. Olympic team that won gold in Rio de Janeiro, said there shouldn't be concerns heading into today's team finals.

"From what I heard practice yesterday went completely normal, which is exactly what we want to hear," she said. "I know after watching qualifications there was some worries and speculations about Simone’s calf and what’s going on there. But from what we’re hearing, she’s doing OK. She’s going to get out there on the competition floor and do what we know Simone Biles can do best."

Team USA enters as a heavy favorite to win the team title.

"This team is so fierce and has said multiple time and time again they’re going for gold, and I’ll think we’ll see that happen later today," she said.

A key will be getting off to a good start in their first event, the vault. Biles posted the highest score of any gymnast (15.8) in that event in the qualifying round.

"We’re looking for confidence, we’re looking for minimal wobbles, and hopefully no landing deductions," Hernandez said.

Jordan Chiles and Simone Biles danced along with Snoop Dogg to get into the Paris Olympic vibe

Leave it up to Snoop Dogg to break any tension as Team USA women's gymnastics goes for the team gold.

The famously laid back rapper and beloved Olympic commentator had stars Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles busting out dance moves during the qualifying round on Sunday, bringing a whole other vibe than the tension of the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

Chiles and Biles caught a glimpse of Snoop dancing in the crowd and couldn't help but groove along with him. Spectators weren't allowed at the Tokyo Olympics, but one spectator in particular has made all the difference in Paris.

“Anybody have any more fun than Snoop? I don’t think so,” announcer Terry Gannon said during the broadcast.

Each qualifying country selects three gymnasts to choose to compete in each event. Here's how Team USA is shaking out during this team final.

  • Vault : Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, Simone Biles
  • Bars : Jordan Chiles, Simone Biles, Suni Lee
  • Beam : Jordan Chiles, Suni Lee, Simone Biles
  • Floor : Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Simone Biles

Which Team USA gymnasts are competing in the final?

All the big names on Team USA will be combining together to try to bring home their first team gold in eight years.

Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey and Suni Lee, who all competed in the Tokyo Olympics, will be in action.

No more than three gymnasts from the same team can compete in a single event, by Olympic rule. Newcomer Hezly Rivera, 16, who is also eligible to compete in the team final, did not finish in the top three on the team in any event during qualifying.

The pressure is on all of them because no bad scores can be dropped from the overall team score, which is a rule that was instituted at the 2004 Olympics. That means if someone falls or has a disastrous routine, that score will count to the overall score, leaving the door open for another team to win by just having all of their gymnasts perform clean routines.

There are 12 total routines per team (three gymnasts each in four events) in the finals.

The road to the final: How teams qualify

Twelve teams competed on Sunday, with the eight highest-scoring teams advancing to today's competition.

Teams competed in vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise, with the scores from each event being added up for a cumulative score. Five gymnasts from each team can compete in the four events in qualifying, with no more than three in a single event.

The three highest scores from each team in each event count toward the team score in qualifying for the team final. Using the vault as an example, the top-three scores by Simone Biles (15.8), Jade Carey (14.666) and Jordan Chiles (14.333) gave Team USA a score of 44.799 in the vault in the team qualifying.

Then the team scores of all four events are added together for a cumulative score.

Team USA finished with the highest qualifying score at 172.296, followed by Italy with 166.861. Qualifying scores do not carry over to the finals.

Here's everything to know about the format .

Which teams qualified for the women's team final?

The top eight women's squads reached the team final after Sunday's qualifying round, led by Team USA.

In addition to the United States, the other qualifiers are Italy, China, Brazil, Japan, Canada, Great Britain and Romania.

The U.S. team won the qualifying rounds by a large margin of more than five points, but team scores revert to zero for the finals, so nothing from qualifying carries over.

When are the women's gymnastics team finals? How to watch

The action gets underway at 12:15 p.m. ET at Bercy Arena in Paris.

The order of events is what's known as the Olympic order, which is vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and then floor exercise.

Team USA and Italy, who qualified No. 1 and No. 2, will start on vault and then progress through the three other events in that order (bars/beam/floor).

China and Brazil will start on the uneven bars, Japan and Canada will start on the balance beam, and Great Britain and Romania will start on the floor exercise.

The team final will be live on NBC and streamed live on Peacock and NBCOlympics.com , the NBC Olympics app and the NBC app.
