The vast majority of fake Rolex watches in the world are cheap, easy-to-spot knockoffs. “You know that if it cost $50, it’s not a real Rolex. It’s a very obvious fake,” says Matthew Bain, a Miami-based watch expert who operates Matthew Bain, Inc .

But some counterfeits are not so obvious. Just last year a group of imitation ceramic Rolex Submariners snuck into the market. “If you didn’t look at one next to the real one, and you just looked at it alone, you probably would not be able to tell it was fake,” Bain says. “A lot of people got burned.”

As counterfeiting technology and methods advance, understanding the intricacies of genuine Rolex watches becomes increasingly important for prospective buyers . Fake watches are a billion-dollar industry, with an estimated 30 million to 40 million introduced to the market each year, according to the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry .

Sometimes counterfeiters mix and match parts from genuine Rolex watches and fake ones, making distinguishing the two even more difficult. “They might get a real Rolex movement, and then they make a fake case around it. It’s very hard to detect the originality of it,” Bain explains.

Only an expert — and luckily, 1stDibs has many — can really be trusted to determine whether or not a watch is genuine. Nevertheless, we’ve compiled a list of 13 things you should look for in a real Rolex.

1. Engraved Model and Serial Numbers

Genuine Rolex watches have their serial and model numbers deeply engraved into the metal between the lugs attaching the band to the body — whereas fakes often just have them etched on with acid. The watch’s serial number, which can be used to determine its production date, is located on the six o’clock side.

On the 12 o’clock side is the model number (also called the style or reference number), typically appearing below the text “ORIG ROLEX DESIGN.” To view the model and serial numbers, you have to take off the band , using a pushpin or small paper clip to remove the pin that holds it in place.

Counterfeiters often don’t bother to vary the numbers, instead printing the same digits on each replica. A simple Google search for the serial and model numbers of the watch you’re considering should reveal whether it is actually a mass-produced fake . “Many times they will etch the wrong model number on a watch. Rolex has lately improved its numbering methodology. “The newer Rolexes have scrambled serials,” says Diveroli . “You could no longer date them without going to a Rolex dealer. Also, the serial numbers are now etched in the silver bezel under the crystal at the six o’clock.”

They also have “Rolex” engraved on them, although the placement of the engraving differs depending on the piece. Rolexes manufactured before 2007 included a hologram of the crown logo on the caseback. Because counterfeiters became so adept at copying it, Rolex discontinued the hologram. However, you can now be sure that any seller claiming that a watch with a hologram was made after 2007 is almost definitely peddling a replica.

2. Self-Winding or Mechanical Movement

Rolex movements are self-winding and mechanical, as opposed to quartz or battery-powered. This is a bit tricky to check, since Rolex is adamant that only brand-certified watchmakers can access the movement.

One caveat: Oysterquartz Rolexes from the 1960s and 1970s were produced with quartz movements.

3. Clear and Even Text

All lettering on the face of a Rolex watch should have an exquisitely crisp appearance. It should be centered and perfectly aligned without inconsistent spacing, blurs, splotches or misspellings. A big red flag is ink bleeding, which results from the cheaper printing methods employed for Rolex replicas.

From the Air King to the Yachtmaster, Rolex watches have a consistent font style that’s unique to the brand. Variations in the style are a good indication that the watch is fake. If either of these criteria is not met, the piece may be of dubious authenticity. But another caveat: Some Rolex wearers prefer their watch without the Cyclops and remove it, so a previously owned piece without one may have simply been modified.

5. Waterproof , Not Just Water Resistant

This one is pretty self-explanatory. “Waterproof” and “water resistant” both refer to an ability to keep moisture out of the case, with the former denoting higher performance underwater. The majority of Rolex watches in the Oyster line should hold up at a whopping depth of 100 meters (328 feet).

If a watch stops working while you’re out for a swim, best to just leave that fake at the bottom of the sea.

Any authentic Rolex feels substantial and solid, whether it’s made from the heavy-duty Oystersteel or the lighter-weight RLX Titanium or platinum. If a watch feels light or hollow, it may well be a fake.

The weights of Rolexes vary slightly, depending on the model, size, materials and year of production — older models generally weigh less than modern ones. But the weight difference between two real watches of the same model and size is negligible. In contrast, that between a fake and a genuine Rolex can be significant.

Here’s how much some of the most popular Rolex watches weigh:

Since the weight of any watch depends on multiple factors, it’s important to note that you can’t judge the authenticity of a Rolex by its weight alone.

7. Plain Caseback

The casebacks of most Rolex watches are plain polished steel, without engravings, drawings or other decorations. Exceptions include the Sea-Dweller , which has the name of the watch and some variation of “Gas Escape Valve” written on its titanium back.

You won’t find a transparent caseback that lets you see the inner workings of the watch except on some very rare pieces from the 1930s . Such a back is a common sign of a fake Rolex.

8. Crown Etching at 6 O’clock

All Rolex watches made from 2002 onward have a tiny etched crown logo at the six o’clock position, which can take a magnifying glass to make out clearly. Because it’s so small, counterfeiters have a hard time replicating it.

Older models may have the crown etching at 12 o’clock.

9. Hands That Rotate Smoothly

The second hand on a real Rolex should appear to the naked eye to rotate smoothly around the face. That’s because the high precision of a Rolex movement is actually broken down into eight tiny micro-ticks per second, making it look like a continuous motion. If the second hand jerks with each tick, the watch is a fake.

Each Rolex model has a specific hand style. The Yacht-Master, for instance, has a much thicker minute hand than most models, while a Daytona ’s hands are a bit longer, reaching all the way to the hash marks, and are rounded at the end . The Day-Date has shorter hands with flat tips. Counterfeiters often use whatever parts are available to save money, hoping the buyers will overlook this detail.

Can You Hear a Rolex Tick?

Generally, no, you can’t hear a Rolex tick. That is because they are powered with fully mechanical movements, as opposed to the quartz battery used by less expensive watchmakers, which causes a distinctive “tick, tick, tick” sound every second. That said, some Rolex models do tick every few seconds, so it’s the loud ticking every second that indicates a fake.

10. Crown in One Piece

The crown — the small winding knob on the side of the watch used to set the time and date — will always have the famed Rolex crown logo, known as the coronet, engraved on the end. The Rolex crown logo itself is very detailed, finely crafted and well-proportioned, with five symmetrical points of the crown — no more and no less.

On an authentic Rolex, the winding crown and its stem are made from a single piece of metal. On many Rolex replicas, the crown is made of two pieces. Examine it closely with a magnifying glass for signs that it’s been glued together.

Another key element to look at is the crown’s grip. On a genuine Rolex, it is textured to provide traction when turning the crown. On a fake Rolex, the grip may feel uneven or difficult to turn.

The winding crown on a Rolex is always on the right side of the case for easy access — assuming it’s worn on the left wrist. The one exception is the left-handed GMT-Master II , which was introduced in 2022 to accommodate left-handed wearers.

Rolex uses Twinlock and Triplock crowns on its watches to ensure that they’re waterproof. The two different types are identified by small markings under the Rolex coronet. The Twinlock crown, featuring two sealed zones and identified by two dots under the coronet, was invented in 1953 for Rolex Oyster watches, one of the brand’s most iconic collections and the world’s first waterproof timepieces when they were introduced, in 1926. Other models that feature Twinlock crowns include the Sky-Dweller and the Datejust .

The Triplock crown, which bears the Rolex crown logo above three dots, was first used on the Rolex Sea-Dweller, in 1970. It features three sealed zones. When the crown is fully unscrewed, you can see the black O-ring that seals off the inside of the watch from water. Some good counterfeits will have similar-looking gaskets, but they’re merely cosmetic and serve only to fool the buyer.

Today, almost all Rolex dive watches have the Triplock crown, but older models still in production, including the Submariner 14060M , still use the Twinlock technology. It’s important to check the manufacture date of a particular model to determine which crown technology was used.

11. Accurate Date Keeping

A Rolex’s date should change sharply at midnight. Don’t panic if your watch is a few minutes off — that’s likely just a sign that the watch needs some maintenance.

If the date changes slowly or more than 15 minutes late, however, the timepiece may be a fake.

12. Bands That Lie Straight

The band — or bracelet, as Rolex enthusiasts often call it — should lie straight and not kink when laid on a flat surface. Link spacing may stretch and widen with time, but the individual links should still fit together correctly.

Bain cautions that authentic watches may be paired with inauthentic bands. “A lot of faking occurs with the bands because, say you buy a gold Rolex Presidential , you wear it a lot, the band gets stretched,” he explains. “So, there are a lot of aftermarket gold bands that are not really made by Rolex. They’re heavily faked.”

13. Check the Dealer ’s Credentials

Due diligence is extremely important when making a purchase. If you’re planning to buy online, check the merchant’s rating. Ask the seller for references from watch associations like the International Watch and Jewelry Guild . Inquire with his or her previous clients about their experience.

“A good step is comparing very closely your watch with pics of the same model from a reputable dealer,” Diveroli says. “A lot of fakes are off only on minute details.”

How to Find a Reputable Seller

It’s not a fun surprise to buy a Rolex watch thinking it is the real deal only to find out that it is a counterfeit.

In recent years, scammers and counterfeiters have also started going out of their way to make their counterfeit watches look like the real deal, by creating boxes, papers, certificates, and more. This is why you should, under no circumstances take for granted that a Rolex watch is authentic only because it comes with the original box and warranty card. If counterfeiters can fake a watch, then obviously they can fake a plastic card and box. Now, there are also ways to spot these boxes and warranty cards but in this article, we are going to focus on the watch itself.

When it comes to accessories, the best way to spot a fake Rolex box and accessories is to compare them to pictures of original ones online.

How to spot a fake Rolex watch

As Rolex has become more and more well-known, the symbol of wealth and status that it carries becomes greater and greater. This also means that the demand from those who can’t or do not want to pay the price for the real deal increases.

The majority of fake Rolex watches are made in China and surrounding countries in Asia – just like most other counterfeit goods.

The cost of counterfeit Rolexes varies a lot, depending on how much effort the manufacturers have put into making them as close to the real thing as possible. Now, without further ado, let’s go into detail on how to spot a fake Rolex.

But before we start, have in mind that vintage and modern Rolex watches vary a lot. For example, one of the tells of a fake Rolex watch is that the printing on the dial is sharp and clear, but on some vintage Rolex watches, the printing is not very sharp anymore due to aging, so vintage watches demand more expertise and knowledge for spotting. Let’s look at the most obvious tells of a fake Rolex watch that you can use to spot them.

The case back

There are two ways you can spot a fake Rolex by its case back. The first is if the watch has a see-through case back. Today, Rolex does not make a model with a see-through case back and has only made a handful of watches with see-through case backs previously.

The other tell is engravings. Apart from just a few exceptions, such as the vintage COMEX Submariner, Rolex does not engrave the exterior of its case backs. If you see engravings on the watch, it’s most likely a replica – especially if the watch is of a newer model. Of course, a Rolex can have a personal engraving such as a name or a date, but Rolex engraves no logos, no text, or model names on the case backs of any of their newer models.

The case back varies depending on the model, but the best is to have a look at a photo of the casebook of the model you have, and then compare that with the watch you have in front of you.

Bottom line is that if they have counterfeited a watch, they can fake a sticker.

The bracelet

Just like the overall feel of the watch, if you feel a real Rolex bracelet and then a fake bracelet, you’ll notice a considerable difference in both the weight and quality of the Rolex bracelet.

This is something that you will learn over time, but when you have some expertise and experience, you will only need to hold the bracelet of a counterfeit Rolex watch for a few seconds in many cases in order to tell that it is fake. The main reason is that they don’t feel as solid and robust as the real Rolex bracelets.

The replica bracelets tend to be made of low-quality metal, and oftentimes, you will be able to feel the low quality in your hand. Of course, there are fake bracelets made of higher quality too, and these are not as easy to spot.

  Genuine Rolex bracelets feel robust and strong, made only of the best materials. The bracelet of a fake Rolex often jangles and just sounds low-quality. If you want to take it one step further, if you have a steel Rolex bracelet, you can inspect the steel type of bracelet, either by measuring the density or with the help of a tool. Rolex uses 904L steel in its watches, unlike any other watch manufacturer, whereas other brands, and most often counterfeiters, 316L steel.

Now, have in mind that vintage Rolex bracelets can have a lot of stretches too, so it’s important to not get them confused.

Another good way to spot a fake Rolex by the bracelet is to look at the crown on the clasp. Rolex bracelets have the crown symbol on the clasp, which is made in different ways depending on the type of bracelet. The crown should be sharp and precise with clear lines. The ballpoints of the fake watches should be well-defined and raised up (or lowered down) depending on the model. The crown on the fake watches tends to be of low quality with no sharp edges.

Furthermore, another good way is to look at the engravings on the bracelet. The engravings should be sharp and precise, but the fakes don’t tend to be. Simply look at the photo of how the engraving of a real one should look, and then compare it with the potential fake.

In some cases, you may be able to inspect the movement of the Rolex watch . This is considering the fact that the vast majority of Rolex watches have a flat, non-see-through casebook which allows you to see the movement.

As such, in order to see the movement, you will need to open the case back lock, and you usually, need a particular tool for this.

If you get access to the watch’s movement, it’s usually very easy to spot whether it is fake or not.

Rolex’s movements are of perfection and precision, unlike fake movements.

Real movements always have ”Rolex” engraved, and replica movements most often have no engravings.

While many replica Rolexes utilize low-quality automatic movements, some use quartz movements. This means that you can take a look at the second’s hand, and if it ticks, it’s fake because all Rolex watches are automatic – except for Rolex’s Oysterquartz watches, which are now discontinued.  

Additionally, these quartz watches were made in small quantities, so if you come across a ticking secondhand on a Rolex and it’s not an OysterQuartz , you can be certain that it’s fake. Have in mind though, that when we say ”sweeping”, an automatic watch is also powered by ”beats”, but rather than beating 60 times per minute, a Rolex automatic movement beats several times per second, thus creating a sweeping effect.

The bottom line, is if you have access to the movement, search for an image on Google for the movement your watch is supposed to have. First, begin by identifying which movement your watch should have, for example reading our article on Rolex calibers, then looking up a picture of the movement your watch model should have, then comparing it with the movement your watch has.

If you have a hard time differentiating a ticking second hand from a swiping (quartz vs automatic), you can listen to the watch. If it ticks fast repeatedly, it’s an automatic watch. (TICKTICKTICKTICKTICK). If it’s a quartz watch (thus most likely fake), it ticks one time per second (TICK…….TICK……..TICK…..)

The Cyclops is one of the easiest and best ways to spot a fake Rolex.

Almost all Rolex watches with date functions have a magnifying cyclops glued onto the glass to make the date easier to read. This is because, without the magnifying glass, the date text is small and harder to read.

The cyclops magnifies the date by 2.5X, but most of the fake watches that replicate date models just put a piece of glass without any magnifying effect, since creating this piece of glass is difficult and expensive. And even if the counterfeiters make efforts to create a magnifying effect, they seldom get it right with 2.5X enlargement. Usually, a fake watch with a cyclops magnifies too little, but sometimes also too much. When you know how the date should look, this is often the easiest way to tell a fake watch when it has a date function.

Therefore, look at images of real Rolex watches with cyclops and see what they look like. Then compare them.

While we are on the topic of the date, another way to spot a fake Rolex is to look at the printing quality of the watch.

Normally, fake watches both have a low printing quality on the date wheel, the numbers do not have sharp lines, and they can also be misplaced and crooked.

Remember: Rolex accepts nothing less than perfection.

Make sure the model exists

This is definitely one of the best ways to spot a fake Rolex. Ensuring that the model even exists.

Furthermore, you want to make sure that the watch is made in the same way. For example, a common mistake on Fake Daytona watch is that the numbers on the sub-dials are incorrect from a real one. For example, what you can often see on the subdial of fake Daytonas is dates rather than seconds. In other words, one of the sub-dials is meant to be a date indicator, but the fact is that the Daytona does not have, and has never had, a date indicator in one of the sundials.

The best way is to learn what model the watch you are skeptical about is, and more specifically the reference number, and then learn what the real one should look like. By then comparing these, you will be able to spot whether a watch is fake or not.

You can often see Rolex watches that are made in a design, variant or color scheme which does not exist. This obviously refers to the cheaper fake Rolex watches, but this makes it the easiest way to spot a fake Rolex if you know your Rolex models.

It’s not completely uncommon that watches such as the Rolex Daytona instead of having chronographs that measure seconds, instead have date functions, and so on.

In some cases, the fake watch manufacturers have just taken a normal watch and printed a Rolex logo on the dial. These are the fake Rolexes that can be spotted from a mile away since the models are often far from what Rolex would normally make.

The rehaut of the watch is a great way to spot a fake Rolex.

Modern Rolex watches should have an engraving on the rehaut – the inner rim between the dial and the crystal.  

Rolex started introducing the engraved rehaut in 2004 and then slowly introduced it to more and more models. Today, the text is laser etched rather than engraved, which it was in the beginning.

Seen below is an early, and thus engraved rehaut.

The new laser-etched rehaut is more visible and has a brighter finish compared to the older style which is more elegant and subdued.

Rolex introduced this engraved rehaut in order to prevent counterfeit watches, but do not for one second believe that if the watch has an engraved rehaut it is real. Some counterfeiters have learned how to engrave their rehauts. But while they may be engraved, they are certainly not engraved to the same perfection as Rolex’s watches.

The engraving says ”RolexRolexRolex…” and at 6 o’clock, the serial number is engraved. Some replica watches have tried to replicate this, however, the engraving tends to just be printed on the rehaut, or is very imprecise, unlike the real deal which is done with perfection, with no inconsistencies.

Authentic Rolex engraving has the text ”RolexRolexRolexRolex” around the rehaut and a Rolex crown at 12 o’clock as well as the serial number engraved at 6 o’clock.

What is really interesting is that authentic Rolex watches have the engraving, on the right side of the rehaut so that at each 5-minute marking, the engraving ends at the letter X. On the right side of the rehaut, the engraving always starts with the letter R, as seen in the image below:

Another thing to look at when it comes to the rehaut is its angle.

Authentic Rolex reheats are slightly angled, but almost straight. Fake Rolex watches tend to struggle with the correct angle on the reheat, and in many cases, the rehaut is too polished and thus creates reflections from the indices and the dials. Furthermore, the rehaut is often too angled. These are often easy ways to spot a fake Rolex watch. An authentic Rolex watch is not so polished that the indices reflect on them like a mirror.

Dial font and print

The dial font and print are often a good way to spot a fake Rolex due to the fact that Rolex makes its print to perfection with sharp lines, whereas counterfeit watches struggle with this. Essentially all fake Rolex watches have imperfect dial printing in one way or another. Oftentimes, the printing bleeds and the lines become misaligned or not correct, other times, there can be misspellings, the printings in the wrong hue or color, etc.

When speaking of the dial, you can also look at the applied indices. On authentic Rolex watches, the luminous mass that is applied to the indices should be flat and evenly distributed. Refer to an authentic Rolex watch to understand what the indices should be like.

Counterfeit watches tend to struggle with making the indices and the luminous mass properly, applying them in the correct way, or making them the right size, so this is often a great way to tell a fake Rolex watch. Oftentimes, the indices are also often too thick, and in some cases too thin.

When it comes to the printing and the fonts, Rolex makes its watches to perfection, and if you can see inconsistencies, blurs, unevenness, spacing in the font, and ink bleeding, it’s probably a replica. Therefore, an easy way to spot a fake Rolex is to carefully inspect the dial font and text. The text should be easy to read, and there should be no misspellings, uneven letters, or similar.

Do, however, have in mind that vintage Rolexes can be a completely different story, as mentioned earlier.   Especially as these can often be 20, 30, or 40 years old, and this obviously affects the dial of the watch as well as the font and the text. In order to identify a vintage watch, you need to have more skill, knowledge, and experience.

This is a really interesting way to spot a fake Rolex.

Oftentimes, fake watches made to replicate models with special functions such as the Daytona or Yacht-Master II don’t have movements advanced enough to support these functions.

For example, if you have a Daytona, the chronograph function should work properly. If you have a Daytona and the chronograph pushers do not work, such as the sub-dials, it is most likely a fake watch.

Therefore, it’s important to try all the functions of the Rolex watch to ensure they work the way they should.

Micro-etched crown

Another way to tell a fake watch is by looking at the micro-etched crown on the glass.

Rolex  started  etching  the crystal in 2001 but it  was  not throughout the line until about 2003.

The etched crown in the sapphire crystal can barely be seen with the naked eye, but it is possible when you know where to look.

The problem is that some counterfeiters have started laser-etching the crown into the sapphire crystal which means that just because your watch has the crown doesn’t mean it is authentic.

However, since the crown is so tiny, it is difficult to make it as perfect as Rolex does it:

As you can see, the laser-etched crown is perfectly made. Fake watches that do have the crown are poorly made with a poor finish. Oftentimes, it looks like the crown is acid-etched.

If the watch doesn’t have the Rolex crown etched on the glass, chances are, it’s a replica, because this detail is so small and hard to make, replica watches tend to overlook it. It is expensive for counterfeiters to make, and the vast majority of them don’t have the necessary tools to make them.

Rolex waterproofness

All Rolex watches are water-resistant. Some are more waterproof than others. Fake watches, on the other hand, are seldom waterproof, so testing the watch’s water resistance is often a way to tell if the watch is fake or not. Have in mind, though, that if the Rolex is old and hasn’t been serviced for a long time, it may, despite being authentic, not be waterproof anymore. Testing the watch’s waterproofness is thus not the ideal method to spot a fake Rolex on.

Rolex Serial numbers

Another way to spot a fake Rolex is to look at the serial numbers of the watch.

The serial number can be found engraved on the rehaut at 6 o’clock.

The serial number should be perfectly laser-engraved the way the ”Rolex text” is with perfectly engraved fine lines.

Replicas often have tiny dots making up the engraving, and others have a sandy texture in the engraving (laser etching) as opposed to Rolex’s clear and smooth engraving.

The winding crown on a fake Rolex is of low quality and has a basic look, while a real Rolex has a quality feel to it. The side of the winding crown also has the Rolex coronet on it, and this should be well-defined with clear contrasts.

Rolex Metal

The metal is often a dead giveaway and an easy way to spot a fake Rolex. In particular, if the watch is supposed to be in precious metal. Some Rolex watches only exist in certain precious metals, for example, the Platinum Day-Date or Day-Date which is made in either platinum, yellow gold, rose gold, or white gold.

But if you’ve found that the model does in fact exist, the best way to see if a watch is fake is to take up a picture of a real Rolex and then compare the two. Is there anything that stands out on the watch? Compare it to a picture of the watch it is trying to replicate and see if you can find any differences.

This is the best and easiest way to spot a fake Rolex when you don’t have much experience or knowledge. Simply compare it with a photo of a real one. It is of course even better if you have a real one to compare with, in the flesh, but this may not always be possible.

Rolex Weight

Because Rolex watches are made from solid metals, whether from precious metals or steel, authentic Rolex watches usually have quite some heft to them.

Fake Rolex watches tend to be made of low-quality materials and do thus not carry the same heft to them as authentic Rolex watches.

Rolex Bezel

Lastly, a way to spot a fake Rolex is to look at the bezel. Different Rolex watches have different bezels, but if it has numbers on them, they should be sharp and very clearly defined.

For example, a ceramic bezel has numbers on them, and the paint inside of those numbers should be perfectly applied inside the engraving. These sellers will never sell a fake watch and will do the inspection and authenticity check for you. When buying from these sellers, you can trust their expertise and knowledge.

If it is too good to be true, it usually is

If you get an offer to buy a Rolex at a price that is almost too good to be true, it usually is. If it is offered by a trusted seller, you need to be a little less careful, but if you are buying from a   private person or a source you don’t trust, it’s better to stay away unless you have expertise and experience enough to easily spot a fake Rolex watch.

When it comes to auctions, it’s not necessarily that they intentionally sell fake watches, but they may not have enough expertise to tell a fake Rolex from the real deal. As these sellers don’t have enough experience, you as a buyer need to have enough experience and do your due diligence if you are going to buy a watch.

Rolex does not have an official database of serial numbers that they share with the public. 1. Movement

One distinct feature to look for in Rolex watches is the movement of the second hand. In a genuine Rolex, the second hand will not ”tick” as many watches do. 

Instead, it will move smoothly and continuously around the face of the watch, creating an almost sweeping motion. This is due to the high beat rate in the watch’s mechanical movement, typically 28,800 beats per hour (8 beats per second).

If you observe a second hand that jumps from second to second or ticks, it’s a strong indication that the watch either uses the ones listed below:

• Quartz movement
• Lower-quality mechanical movement

Neither of the two is used by Rolex in their watches. However, some high-quality fakes may also mimic this smooth movement, so it’s important to consider other factors when identifying a real Rolex.

The “ Cyclops ” lens is a small, magnifying lens on the date window at 3 o’clock that magnifies the date by around 2.5 times for easier reading. When looking at the date through the Cyclops lens, it should take up almost the entire date window and be very clear. 

If the date under the Cyclops is small or doesn’t fill up almost the entirety of the window, or if the magnification is less than 2.5 times, the watch might not be a genuine Rolex. This is because many counterfeit watches can’t replicate the 2.5x magnification, so they tend to have smaller and less clear date numbers. 

However, counterfeited watch brands, specifically some Rolex watches do not have the signature Cyclops lens. For instance, the Rolex Sea-Dweller used to be Cyclops-free until 2017.

3. Caseback Markings & Stickers

Genuine Rolex casebacks are generally smooth and plain with no logo, design, or text, except for some rare and special editions. It is typically crafted from a single, solid metal block, usually 904L stainless steel, 18K gold, or 950 platinum, depending on the particular model. This construction gives Rolex watches notable water and pressure resistance.

Exceptions to this are:

• Rare special editions or a few models for commemorations might have inscriptions or logos.
• The Rolex Sea-Dweller has some inscriptions (e.g., “Rolex Oyster Original Gas Escape Valve”).
• The Rolex Milgauss model has a unique engraving resembling concentric circles, symbolizing the magnetic flux density.

Most importantly, Rolex watches never have a see-through (skeleton or exhibition) case back that exposes the movement. If you see a Rolex watch with a clear or engraved case back (apart from the exceptions mentioned above), it is likely a fake.

4. Etching & Serial Numbers

Rolex watches feature various etchings and serial numbers that can be used to authenticate them. Here’s what to look for:

• Rehaut Laser-Etched Crown: Since 2002, Rolex began engraving a tiny crown logo on the rehaut (the area around the dial, beneath the crystal) at the 6 o’clock position. 
• Serial Numbers: Serial numbers are engraved between the lugs on the side of the case at 6 o’clock, behind where the bracelet fits. These numbers determine the approximate year or era in which the watch was manufactured. In 2005, Rolex also began engraving these on the inner rehaut.
• Model or Case Reference Numbers: These numbers are found on the side of the case, at the 12 o’clock position, behind where the bracelet fits. They indicate the model and type of the watch.

The engravings and numbers should be neatly etched with high precision and clearly visible under a magnifying glass. They should not be a different color than the surrounding metal. 

In authentic Rolex watches, the engravings are generally very finely done. They are difficult to replicate, so forgeries often have sloppy, shallow, or poorly done engraving.

5. Markings, Dial, Hands, and Finishing

Rolex is known for its great attention to detail and precise craftsmanship; as such, the markings, dial, hands, and finishing of Rolex watches should reflect this quality. 

Below lists the key elements to look for when inspecting the markings, dial, hands, and finishing of a Rolex watch:

• Markings: All markings, including the Rolex crown logo, writing on the dial, and on the case back and bracelet, should be precise and perfectly etched. For example, the Rolex logo should be finely and symmetrically made, and the writing should be crisp and clean.
• Dial: The dial should be perfect, with no dust, hair, or fingerprints. Also, the lettering and printing should be crisp with no smudging or irregularities. Rolex uses a special technique for applying hour markers, ensuring that they are perfectly aligned.
• Hands: The hands of the watch should match the overall style of the watch and should be meticulously crafted. Rolex uses 18K gold hands to prevent tarnishing and high-quality luminescent material for their dials and hands.
• Finishing: The polish and brush of the case, bracelet, and bezel should be flawless. There should be no sharp edges or unfinished areas. Moreover, Rolex watches are known for their seamless and intricate bracelet links.
• Date Window: If the watch has a date function, the date should change precisely at or just before midnight, not gradually. Rolex models that feature a date function also have a “Cyclops” date window that magnifies the date 2.5 times.
• Triplock Crown Seal: Rolex watches are known for being water-resistant. The Triplock Crown Seal is one of the features that ensure this resistance. This system, comprising about ten different components, screws down onto the case, ensuring waterproof efficiency.

Remember, a genuine Rolex watch is a high-quality, meticulously crafted piece of equipment. The smallest details matter. 

6. Water Resistance

Rolex is renowned for its exceptional water resistance. It is achieved using a system of gaskets, seals, and a screw-down crown and case back to prevent water from entering the watch case. The Rolex Triplock and Twinlock winding crown systems help to ensure the watch’s waterproofness.

Additionally, the exact level of water resistance depends on the specific Rolex model:

• Oyster Perpetual Models: These are water-resistant to at least 100 meters (330 feet).
• Submariner Models: These are designed specifically for divers. A Rolex submariner undergoing a water test offers a water resistance up to 300 meters (1,000 feet).
• Sea-Dweller Models: These watches are usually water-resistant to 1,220 meters (4,000 feet).
• Rolex Deepsea: This model is designed for extreme depths, offering water resistance up to 3,900 meters (12,800 feet).

Keep in mind that water resistance is not a permanent condition. Over time, the gaskets and seals that provide water resistance can wear out and degrade, reducing the watch’s water resistance. 

7. Weight and Materials

Rolex uses high-quality materials for its watches, which contributes to their overall weight and feel. While the exact weight will depend on the specific model and size of the watch , Rolex watches are generally heavier than many other watches due to the quality of materials used.

Below lists the materials Rolex uses for its watches:

• 904L Stainless Steel: Rolex uses a specific type of stainless steel called 904L. This steel is more rust and corrosion-resistant and can take and hold polish very well.
• 18K Gold: Rolex produces its own gold in its in-house foundry. They use 18K gold, which is a blend of 75% pure gold and other metals. The exact blend depends on whether it’s yellow, white, or Everose (Rolex’s unique version of rose gold) gold.
• 950 Platinum: Rolex uses 950 platinum, meaning it is 95% pure platinum, known for its durability and resistance to tarnishing.
• Rolesor: Describes Rolex’s watches that combine 904L stainless steel and 18K gold (yellow, white, or Everose) in the case and bracelet construction.
• Rolesium: This term coined by Rolex refers to the unique combination of 904L stainless steel and 950 platinum, typically used in the construction of certain Yacht-Master models.
• Cerachrom: Rolex’s proprietary ceramic material is used in bezels of models like the Daytona, Submariner, and GMT-Master II. It’s resistant to UV rays and is virtually scratch-proof.
• Sapphire Crystal: Rolex uses high-quality synthetic sapphire crystal for the watch face, which is extremely scratch-resistant.
• Diamonds and Precious Gems: Rolex only uses high-quality diamonds and other precious gems. The stones are always set in gold to prevent tarnishing.
• Gold Fluted Bezel: Rolex’s fluted bezels are solid gold and have a distinctive, ridged pattern that creates a unique, light-catching effect.

The weight of a Rolex watch will vary depending on the model’s size and the materials used. A men’s Rolex watch usually has a weight ranging between 140 and 180 grams. Meanwhile, a lady’s Rolex watch tends to weigh less. 

On the other hand, the fake Rolex weight is often described to be too light for the supposed-to-be materials used for it. 

8. Crown Markings and Sound

Rolex watches are known for their meticulous detailing, and this extends to the crown markings and sounds as well:

• Crown Markings: The Rolex crown is often marked with dots or lines beneath it. These markings signify the type of sealing system used and the watch’s water resistance level. For example, no dots or lines signify the Twinlock system. In contrast, three dots indicate the Triplock system used in Rolex Submariner timepieces, Sea-Dweller, and Daytona models. The crown should be finely made with clear and precise markings.
• Sound: Rolex watches use automatic mechanical movements like quartz watches, which do not tick once per second. Instead, Rolex watches have a smooth and continuous sweeping second-hand motion. The movement’s sound, especially the winding mechanism, should be relatively quiet, smooth, and consistent. 

9. Bracelet and Straps

Rolex bracelets and straps are made with the same attention to detail and high-quality materials as the rest of the watch. 

• Oyster Bracelet: The Oyster bracelet is the most popular and recognizable Rolex bracelet. It consists of three-piece links, with the larger link in the middle. It’s known for its durability and versatility.

In authentic, luxurious Rolex watch models since 2002, the “ROLEX” name has been laser-engraved multiple times around the rehaut, with the watch’s unique serial number at the 6 o’clock position. If these inscriptions are uneven, poorly engraved, missing, or positioned incorrectly, you may be looking at a counterfeit. 

Some fake Rolex watches may also exhibit a discrepancy in alignment between the engraved rehaut and the dial markers. This problem is not encountered in genuine pieces due to Rolex’s exceptional quality control.

“Quartz” on the Dial

Rolex is renowned for its automatic or mechanical movements, and it’s rare to find a genuine timepiece from the brand with “Quartz” on the dial. The brand only produced a limited number of quartz watches in the past for the collections mentioned below:

• Cellini 
• Oysterquartz

However, many fake Rolex watches inaccurately feature “Quartz” on the dial in an attempt to explain the distinctive ticking motion characteristic of quartz movements. So, if you spot the word “Quartz” on the dial, especially outside of the Oysterquartz and Cellini models, it’s likely a counterfeit piece.

Cellinis with Date Windows or Lume

Rolex’s Cellini models have unique characteristics that counterfeit pieces often fail to accurately replicate. Genuine Cellini watches are designed to embody a classic and elegant aesthetic. As such, they don’t feature date windows or luminescent material (lume). 

Replica watches , however, may display these features to enhance their appeal or functionality. Consequently, if you come across a Rolex Cellini with a date window or lume, it’s likely not an authentic Rolex but a similar model watch or an imitation replica watch.

Tudor Date Fonts on a “Rolex”

Rolex and Tudor , while both under the same parent company, have distinct design languages and elements that set them apart. One such distinction lies in the fonts used for the date window. Rolex has a signature font that’s clear, consistent, and precise across its models, with its unique open “6” and “9” numerals. 

On the other hand, Tudor uses a different font for its date display. Due to their lack of meticulous attention to detail or limited resources, counterfeiters often mistakenly use Tudor date fonts on fake Rolex watches. This is a clear sign of inauthenticity, as Rolex would never use the date font from its sibling brand on its timepieces.

Lumed Hands on an Unlumed Dial

One glaring inconsistency often found on counterfeit Rolex watches is the presence of luminescent hands on a dial that has no other luminescent elements. If a genuine Rolex model features luminescent hands, it will invariably also include luminescent hour markers on the dial, assisting readability in low-light conditions. 

Therefore, the presence of lumed hands on an unlumed dial is not a feature that a genuine Rolex would possess and is a clear sign of a counterfeit timepiece. These inconsistencies reflect the counterfeiters’ oversight and lack of understanding of Rolex’s careful design principles.

Two-Tone Day-Dates

Authentic Day-Date models are only available in solid 18k gold or platinum. However, a common pitfall among fake Rolex watches is the production of two-tone Day-Dates. While two-tone designs (combining gold and stainless steel, for instance) are common in other Rolex lines, they are not a feature of the genuine Day-Date models. 

Therefore, if you come across a Day-Date watch with a two-tone design, it’s almost certainly a fake. This misstep by counterfeiters underscores a fundamental misunderstanding or disregard for Rolex’s established design rules and traditions.

Gold Plating Rubbing Off

One of the telltale signs of a fake Rolex watch is the presence of gold plating that is starting to rub off. Rolex exclusively uses high-quality 18k gold or platinum for its gold-toned watches, not gold plating. This means the color and luster run through the entire material and will not wear off with time or use.

While we wouldn’t be introduced to the very first Yacht-Master until 1992, Rolex’s history with sailing actually dates back to 1958, the year the Swiss watchmaker partnered with the prestigious New York Yacht Club. By then, Rolex had already garnered a reputation for making great waterproof watches with the invention of their Rolex Oyster case back in 1926. So, the partnership was actually quite a natural next step.

Rolex solidified its relationship with the world of sailing in 1966 when Francis Chichester — one of history’s most exceptional navigators — became the first person to sail around the globe on his yacht, the Gipsy Moth IV, with a Rolex on his wrist. His voyage, which spanned from August 1966 to May 1967, took him 29,600 miles around the world. however, the most impressive part is that he only had a few tools to help him navigate his way, including nautical charts, a sextant, and a Rolex Oyster Perpetual. The Rolex wristwatch chronometer he used was a reliable and steady partner, helping him keep time amidst rough conditions for 226 days at sea.

Despite the brand’s massive success in creating watches that were great for sailing, Rolex continued to hold back its efforts to create a watch specifically for this category. The brand did briefly dabble with the idea in the 1960’s, releasing a prototype dial for the Cosmograph chronograph with the name “Yacht Master” on it, but the idea never took hold. Today, only two known examples of this prototype Daytona Yacht-Master are known to exist — one belonging to Eric Clapton (whose model sold for $125,100 at auction in 2003) and one owned by legendary Rolex collector John Goldberger.

In 1992, we were finally introduced to the modern Yacht Master we know and love today. Its official name, the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master, was the brand’s first ultra-luxury sports watch built for the open seas. How to Spot a Fake Rolex

Rolex is a luxury watch brand that not all people can afford to own. This is why counterfeit Rolexes are everywhere. Sometimes, they are offered at prices that are too good to be true and gullible consumers fall into the trap of purchasing a Rolex watch replica. Knowing how to spot a fake Rolex watch will save you from paying for a counterfeit watch.

 How can you spot a fake when the Rolex watch model seems to be legit? If you know the tips on how to distinguish a real Rolex, then a knockoff will be easy to spot.

How to Spot a Fake Rolex: 10 Telltale Signs It’s Not the Real Thing

Serial number.

A Rolex serial number is always engraved deeply into the metal, while the fake watches have serial numbers that are simply etched with acid. The placement of the serial number is also a sign of whether it is a true Rolex or not. Look for the serial number on the 6 o’clock side where the band connects to the lug. On a new authentic Rolex watch, the serial number is seen on the inner bezel.

Model Number

A real Rolex watch must have a verifiable model number. The model number is seen on the 12 o’clock side of the watch where the band and the lug meet. There should also be an engraving of “Original Rolex Design” on top of the model number. You may need to remove the band to see the number. To do this, simply use a paper clip to remove the pin that keeps the band in place.

Caseback Engravings

For Rolexes manufactured before 2007, a hologram of the crown logo is found on the caseback. Versions of Rolex manufactured after 2007 should not feature the logo. Most casebacks of newer versions are plain polished steel.

Most Rolex watches do not have engraved words on the caseback. The few exceptions to this rule are the Sea Dweller, military watches, COMEX, and other very rare editions. Older Rolex models like 69172, 69173, and 69174 also have engravings on the back with “Stainless Steel” and “Registered Design”.

Self-Winding and Mechanical Movements

Rolex craftsmanship is of high quality, and often unmatched. The movement must have an engraved “Rolex” on it. The location of the engraving on the Rolex movement differs from one model to another. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to know this unless you open the watch.

Rolex has also produced a limited number of quartz watch styles (mainly from the 1960s and 1970s) with the production of the now vintage Rolex in Oysterquartz.

Date Appears Bigger

The Cyclops, which is a part of the watch crystal, magnifies the date about 2.5 times. Run a finger over the watch crystal and feel the lens. You should feel a bump on the convex lens across the date. A flat Cyclops means that the Rolex watch is a fake. Another way to test it is to hold the watch sideways and look at the date without the Cyclops. If the size of the date appears the same, then it’s not a genuine Rolex watch.

Waterproof Cases

A Rolex watch is known for its waterproof capability. Rolex Oyster Perpetual watches have minimum 330 feet water-resistance level, while a Rolex Submariner can be water-resistant for up to 1,000 feet. A Rolex Sea Dweller can reach up to 4,000 feet, and the best of them all is the Rolex Sea Dweller Deepsea which can withstand water for up to 12,800 feet.

This waterproof ability is thanks to the solid middle case of the watch, which has screw-down winding crowns that prevent the water from entering the watch’s internal mechanism.

Smooth Hand Motions

The hand movements on a true Rolex watch must move smoothly. If there is a jerk – no matter how tiny it may be – consider the watch a fake. A ticking noise whenever the hands move also mean that it is not a legitimate Rolex watch.

The crystal has a tiny crown logo micro-etched at the 6 o’clock position of a Rolex watch manufactured from 2002 onwards. To view the crown logo, you need to have the proper lighting as well as a magnifying glass since it is too small to be seen by the naked eye.

Examine the Winding Crown

The small knob on the side, which is used to set the time, is known as the crown. A genuine Rolex has a crown logo on the crown of the watch. The logo is made from one metal alone with exquisite detail. On a counterfeit Rolex watch, however, the crown logo is usually made of two or more pieces of metal joined together. Use a magnifying glass to examine the crown and the crown logo thoroughly.

Weigh the Watch

A genuine Rolex watch is always heavier than a knockoff. Before purchasing a watch, do some quick research on Google and check for the actual weight of the Rolex model you want to purchase. Then, weigh the item you are looking at. If it does not weigh the same amount as what you have researched, then it is surely a fake watch. 

Knowing how to spot a fake Rolex prevents you from being scammed. Skip the pawn shop and second hand stores and always buy from an official Rolex dealer to guarantee that the products being sold are legitimate, even on pre owned Rolex watches. If the price is too good to be true, that tells you the watch is not the real deal. Rolex timepieces, after all, is made with high-quality materials and craftsmanship like no other, which explains its hefty price tag.

My watch arrived with a paper in case stating my watch was purchased originally in 2005. I was told it was a new watch from the factory, by my so who purchased the watch for me as a gift. The paper that came in the case also said it was a black Mother of Pearl. My watch is a mother of pearl but not black.

“A genuine Rolex watch is always heavier than a knockoff” This is totally false and outdated. Super clones are either dead on or usually within 1-2 grams of the real deal these days. Dangerous information to provide as the novice might use the weight match as a validating criteria, when it no longer applies. Bottom line don’t pay $10k, $20k, $50k or more without a jeweler opening the watch and taking a look at the movement. There are several super clone models passing every external detail test today and can only be differentiated by detail on the movement.

Out of all the high-end timepieces, Rolex watches tend to get faked the most. Under that umbrella, it is the Submariner that has way too many replicas in the market. So, before you go out and buy a watch from a random person, you should do some checks. Some of these checks can be done on the spot like checking if the serial number matches with the card and if there are any issues with the font on the dial. However, there are things that a normal person will not be able to tell. This is why we always recommend you take the watch to a watchmaker who can properly check the watch before you go ahead and buy it.

After 2009 Rolex decided to use a string of random numbers to create its serial numbers. You can check the authenticity of a Rolex by checking its serial number. Every Rolex has a serial number on it, and you can verify the authenticity of Rolex serial numbers through the manufacturer.

4.  Font Consistency

An authentic Rolex watch remains consistent in its crafting across the board. This means that the font type on all the text that appears on the watch should look the same. When you consider buying a Rolex Rolex Yacht-Master, how to spot a fake involves taking note of the consistency of the watch’s design. If you look at pictures of fake Rolexes, you will probably notice that different parts of the watch have slightly different fonts or spacing between different words. This characteristic might not be noticeable unless you have the watch for more than a day, but ideally, you should have already identified the counterfeit before then.

However, it should be noted that a genuine Rolex watch that is in need of service or repairs may not be water resistant, so this is not a guaranteed way to identify a fake, and should only be done on modern Rolex watches, not vintage models or those that are visibly damaged.

The lume pip located at the 12 o’clock position on the authentic Rolex bezel is distinguished by a silver lining around it and fits seamlessly within the confines of the triangle marker surrounding it. Conversely, the lume pip on the counterfeit Rolex’s bezel has a larger, thicker border that extends outside the triangle marker’s boundary. Additionally, it lacks lume material, rendering it unable to glow in the dark like the authentic Rolex bezel’s pip.

An essential tool for any coxswain and their decision-making process, as it allows them to take the best start towards victory.

As for any voyage at sea, time management is vital in a regatta. At its launch in 2007, the Yacht-Master II features an unprecedented mechanical function: a programmable countdown with mechanical memory, synchronizable on the fly. A function that responds ideally to the need for precise timing during the crucial starting sequence of a regatta.

This flexibility is one of the major assets of the Yacht-Master II; its development was a considerable technological challenge. The programming can be mechanically memorized, which makes it possible to start a new countdown without having to reprogramme the watch, for example in the next leg or a subsequent regatta with identical countdown duration.

Furthermore, once the watch’s countdown is launched, it can be synchronized on the fly to match the official countdown via the ‘fly-back’ reset function of the seconds hand and adjustment of the countdown minute hand to the nearest minute.

1. Ring Command System 

Rolex achieved perfection when it turned its attention to redefining the purpose and functionality of the bezel. Typically, a bezel operates independently from the internal mechanism; however, the Ring Command bezel in the Yacht-Master II regatta chronograph operates in conjunction with it.

As a mechanical component linked to the movement, the bezel literally acts as the key to the programmable countdown, allowing it to be set and synchronised to the sequence of race start times. Complex in design, but simple in use, it is functionally beautiful.

The countdown’s sophisticated functions were designed to be easily set and operated. The preliminary programming of up to 10 minutes is accessed, and then locked, via the rotatable bezel thanks to Ring Command, a patented system of interaction between the bezel, the winding crown and the movement, developed by Rolex. A technical feat made possible by the brand’s in-house mastery of the entire watch design and manufacturing process, from the case to the movement.

2. A Distinctive Aesthetic 

The Yacht-Master II is equipped with a new dial, and new hands that are characteristic of Rolex Professional models, enhancing legibility and sharpening its aesthetic appeal. The dial now features a triangular hour marker at 12 o’clock and a rectangular hour marker at 6 o’clock for more intuitive reading of the watch. A luminescent disc on the hour hand clearly distinguishes it from the minute hand.

The Yacht-Master II’s countdown can be programmed for a duration of between 1 and 10 minutes. The programming is memorized by the mechanism so that at a reset it returns to the previous setting. Once launched, the countdown can be synchronized on the fly to match the official race countdown.

On the right-hand side of the middle case, the Yacht-Master II sports two countdown pushers, specially designed to suggest winches, the manual winding gear on a sail boat. The Yacht-Master II is always fitted on an Oyster bracelet with a Oysterlock safety clasp, equipped with an Easylink comfort extension link.

The Yacht-Master II measures 44 mm in diameter, its large size contributing to the optimal legibility of the dial in all conditions.

F A K E There's no part of the watch posted in the OP being authentic at all.  

I, too, doubt its authenticity, but I believe the model it's trying to be is the 16622. Releases early in the run wouldn't have an engraved rehaut.

Yeah even from the poor pictures that's immediately apparent to me. I'm wearing a submariner and one glance at my watch even though completely different model and it's plain obvious the fit and finish.

Comes with a real yacht  

The red / orange writing on the dial looks wrong.  

Is there anything about it that doesn't look wrong? How could anyone who's ever seen one think it's real?  

The refief on the bezel (not to speak of other things) is so cheaply done, that you wouldn't find one of those in a bubble gum vending machine. This is an emetic. You need a master cast and not a cast taken from a bezel which came out of a master cast. If all fakes would be of that horrible quality, then we wouldn't have much problems with such trash, and whoever buys garbage like that, does really deserve it. Buyer beware: fake watches are getting better every year. And they’re getting more prolific—a quick Google search will bring up hundreds of internet retailers hawking their replica goods.

But let us be clear—we don’t say that as a good thing. While the producers of fake watches are getting more skilled in copying the look of a luxury watch, they still fall well short in terms of actual quality. And to illustrate just that, we had our watchmakers open up some fake watches and compare them to their real counterparts. What they found? While at first glance, a fake watch passes pretty well, the devil is really in the details.

First up? A Rolex GMT-Master II ref. 116710.

The First Glance

The first step is checking the dial and markers, two of the most major aesthetic aspects of the watch. Then comes the case—lower-quality steel is evident on the fake. How do you tell? It’d be more difficult to discern without a real watch to compare against, but it’s all in the feel. And, the polishing and lines of the case actually make more of a difference than you’d think. Rolex watches have a distinct line and polish that’s difficult to mass-produce, so be on the look-out for sharper corners and duller finishing.

Likewise, the rotating bezel is a distinct feature on a GMT-Master, one that Rolex invented and perfected. If you encounter more resistance when you try to work the bezel, chances are that it’s not an authentic Rolex click-system.

The Insides

The particular fake watch we got our hands on did have an authentic Swiss movement in it (but obviously not the correct one for the GMT-Master II), but generally, the movement inside a fake watch will be a dead giveaway. That means it will most likely be a Chinese-manufactured replica or an authentic Swiss-manufactured movement that’s not supposed to be there. Either way, if it’s not a genuine Rolex movement , it’s a no-go.

So what’s the lesson? When it comes to fake watches, sometimes its really hard to tell. Sure, there are some very obvious mistakes, like the wrong placement of the Rolex serial number or the incorrect stack of the hands. But sometimes you come across a really skilled replica manufacturer that can fool even the biggest watch nerd. That’s why you trust the experts to tell you for sure.

Iggy Azalea appears to be poking fun at her ex-boyfriend Playboi Carti in a vampire-themed mobile company ad.

Iggy Azalea has been very outspoken regarding Playboi Carti's absence in co-parenting their son, Onyx. So it appears the Aussie rapper threw a jab at him in her new ad for mobile company Unreal Mobile.

On Wednesday (Aug. 21), Iggy hopped on her Instagram account and posted a new commercial from Unreal Mobile, a company where she serves as the creative director and co-founder. In the clip below, a distressed vampire calls Iggy's "Unreal Mobile Hotline" for some assistance. The vampire also appears to have the same face and nose piercings as her ex.

During their conversation, the vampire informs Iggy that he's been forced to drink fake blood instead of human blood. The vampire even emulates Carti's high-pitched, baby-voiced adlibs when he screams "Unreal" and "What?!" when he discovers he had been overpaying for his mobile service plan.

"Sweetie, you gotta embrace the unreal and stop overpaying for your mobile plan," Iggy advises the vampire.

Iggy azalea claims limited co-parenting with playboi carti.

Back in July, Iggy Azalea appears to have confirmed that she's a single mother when it comes to raising her and Playboi Carti's son, Onyx. In an interview with the Dinner's on Me With Jesse Tyler Ferguson podcast, the 34-year-old rapper spoke candidly about the limited co-parenting with the Opium leader.

"I'm very much a single mother. I'm very much the only parent, no disrespect, but yes, I am not co-parenting really, and that's just the reality of it," Iggy said. "It's one, it's 24/7."

In recent years, Iggy has taken on a more active role as a mother, and she expressed her admiration and respect for motherhood in general. Iggy and Carti welcomed their son Onyx back in 2020. The Australian rhymer had previously referred to herself as a single parent when she announced her split from Carti a few months after Onyx was born and said "I'm raising my son alone."
