- China Movie Metropolis president hopes for more collaboration with Russia
Sun Hengqin, president of China Movie Metropolis, told China.org.cn that at the Moscow International Film Week (MIFW) he attended in-depth exchanges and would love for more communication and collaboration with Russian studios and filmmakers.

During his time in Moscow, Sun toured the Moscow Film Industry Moskino Cluster and its Moskino Production and Experience Park. This 1,000-hectare project, which is expected to be completed by 2030, impressed him with its existing sets, long-term planning and expansive but reasonable layouts. He believes it is bound to become a rare and outstanding international film studio.
As the top executive of China Movie Metropolis, Sun said he expects more exchanges in the future and will continue to pay attention to the construction of Moskino.
He told China.org.cn that he looks forward to building relationships with Russian colleagues that are mutually beneficial. "I always think that communicating with peers is a good thing, as we can inspire each other. In the coming years, we can learn from each other's advantages and then improve together."
Sun added, "in our Chinese delegation this time, there were several producers who work on Russian films; they often come to Russia. In Russian films, Chinese cities are rare, but I remember Qingdao appeared once. I hope in-depth film industry communication and people-to-people exchanges will become deeper and closer, and that our collaboration can be long-lasting and steady."

During MIFW, Sun introduced his China Movie Metropolis, located in Qingdao, Shandong province, to international filmmakers. The Chinese film complex, one of the largest of its kind, spans 3.76 million square meters. Besides housing film studios, the complex also has a grand theater, a cluster of hotels and resorts, a yacht club, a hospital and an international school, etc.
China Movie Metropolis' core studios park occupies a total area of 1.7 million square meters and meets international standards. According to Sun, it is committed to providing comprehensive and advanced services to global film producers.
Since opening in April 2018, the studio complex, which features 40 state-of-the-art studios, an underwater stage, a post-production center, a film and TV virtualization production platform and backlots, has provided services for a number of films. It has earned high recognition within the industry and has been praised by some media outlets as "the cradle of Chinese sci-fi blockbusters." The complex has supported the production of domestic hits like "The Wandering Earth" series, "Moon Man" and the Russian-element-heavy "Wonder Family," as well as international blockbusters including "Pacific Rim: Uprising" and "The Great Wall."

Harper blows up everything on Industry
Meanwhile, eric spirals, and yas and henry get close.
You know things are going to get wild whenever Industry takes trips away from Pierpoint’s London offices. Remember Rob’s visit to the Netherlands? Yas and Harper’s trip to Berlin ? Or how about that hunting trip in Wales? To say they all upped the tension in their given episodes is an understatement. So when I saw we were headed to Bern, I was thrilled. This Swiss town is hosting a conference roundly focused on green investments, with clean energy and socially-responsible financial decisions taking center stage. Think of it as Davos for the green dollar—or, as one character puts it when describing Lumi and the kind of funds that alight on Bern, “the poster child for a new kind of capitalism.”
But can capitalism really make room for such socially-conscious minds? Is this an economy that, as Eric (Ken Leung) flippantly puts it during a key panel, can make the “maximum amount of money and the maximum amount of good”? Answers vary among the Bern crowd, which include both green dollar evangelicals—like Anna Gearing (Elena Saurel)—and those slightly more cynical about the entire enterprise— like Anna’s portfolio manager, Petra (Sarah Goldberg). The two once-close friends arrive in Bern with decidedly different agendas: After all, the fallout from Petra hedging FutureDawn Partners’ investment in Lumi has left them at odds with one another. As her lawyer informs her at the start of the episode, Anna is leveraging a rather vindictive contract offer to keep Petra in check. (She’s included, among other things, a “philosophy clause” to keep her from going behind her back and investing in gas and oil, say, but also some strict stipulations about her agency and her profit making.) It’s all enough for Petra to yell “FUCKING CUNT!” and then catch herself.

As she steadies herself, she and Harper (Myha’la) all but decide to go on their own. Maybe they can travel to Bern and woo some of Anna’s investors away from her? It’s the kind of gamble that’s high risk but high reward—or namely, what Harper knows how to do best. All they need is $300 million dollars to get started and get ahead in the game.
Meanwhile, Anna is hoping her panel with Lumi founder Henry (Kit Harington) and Eric (who’s been tasked with that gig last minute) is enough to turn around the energy company’s disastrous public IPO rollout . Eric needs a win and is quite motivated (he even refuses to drink on Henry’s private plane as he, Yas, and Rob prep for the conference), but Henry may be a bit distracted. Mostly by Yas (Marisa Abela), who keeps trying to toe the line between wanting to get taken seriously and ignoring the tabloid press and leveraging the kind of attention and privilege that affords her. It’s why she doesn’t hesitate to go into Henry’s private cabin on his plane, leaving her Pierpoint colleagues behind.

Once everyone arrives at Bern, it’s clear how much is riding on the Lumi panel—not just for Pierpoint and Anna, but for Eric and Henry. That may be why everyone is on edge. Rob ( Harry Lawtey ) knows, for instance, that a fellow atendee (Joel Kim Booster) is slated to publish an internal analysis on Lumi. Knowing his predilections (and perhaps overplaying his hand, in the process), Rob follows him into the sauna (where, yes, the Fire Island star does bare it all—he even touches himself throughout this entire exchange) and tries to get some intel into what and when that analysis will drop. But other than being told he’s in a text chain where he’s been dubbed one of the hottest straight Pierpoint employees, Rob doesn’t get much out of the nude encounter.
Meanwhile, during evening festivities before the Lumi panel you just know will fail spectacularly, Yas and Harper get to bond a bit more. It’s clear Yas is still reeling from the events on the yacht (not to mention having to endure further ridicule by Henry’s douchebag friend Xander), and while she’s comforted enough by her former Pierpoint colleague, Harper mostly leverages that moment of vulnerability into a networking opportunity: She has Yas introduce her to Otto Mostyn (Roger Barclay) and all but shows her cards saying she and Petra are there opening a new fund and lobbing the kind of words a man like Mostyn thrives on. (“I prefer a kind of feminism where woman can be cunts.”)
The next day what would’ve been a chance for reinvention for Petra and Harper proves to be a disaster-in-the-making. All their meetings are a bust, with folks either not taking them seriously (and sending their lowly junior-ranked employees) or outright dismayed at their pitch. (Hearing Petra bomb a meeting with the line “Let’s get Jesus out of those sandals and into some Jordans” was a highlight of the episode.) It’s hard, it turns out, to launch a new fund that’s not beholden to green ideals at a conference about those very tenets. Realizing how ill-equipped they are to succeed, Petra puts a stop to it: “Forget this ever happened,” she tells Harper, disappointed in herself that she ever thought it could work. I mean, she didn’t even have a way of showing anyone her investing track record, something Harper then sets her sights on, again leveraging Yas to help her retrieve it.
Which all brings us to the Lumi panel, which does end up sounding as self-congratulatory as you’d imagine. And yet, midway through, that aforementioned analysis publishes. It’s basically a death-knell, both in content and in timing, leaving Eric, Anna, and Henry scrambling to reframe the narrative once more. And if that hadn’t been enough, Harper takes the mic to seemingly just ask a question but instead lobs a loaded hand grenade at FutureDawn Partners, Pierpoint, Henry, and everyone else in the room. She announces that she’s part of a new fund (with Petra, who’s aghast at the revelation, as is Anna) and wonders whether the panel wasn’t just a way to whitewash Lumi’s disaster.
That one-two punch is enough to rattle the entire room. Soon Lumi’s stocks are plummeting even more—and enough to send Petra into a tailspin. (“What the fuck is wrong with you?!”). That is, until Otto Mostyn shows up unannounced. He was intrigued by Harper’s brazen pitch; he only cares about making money and the bloviating throughout the conference was clearly boring him. What better way to upend it all than to fund this upstart venture with two women who have no fealty to identity nor ecological politics. (“New look, same great taste,” Harper notes when making it clear to Mostyn they’re all speaking the same language.) He’s ready to commit some money to their venture, and Harper knows exactly who she wants their first meeting to be with that following morning.
But first, we get an intimate scene between Yas and (a very naked) Henry at a pool he’s had closed off from everyone else. They trauma bond a bit about their time in the limelight; he shares how he’s struggled since his dad killed himself and how he’s battled depression and suicidal ideation himself. Sure, she still thinks he’s a bit of a playboy but she grows increasingly drawn to him, teasing him more and more with every new disclosure. That it all ends with him walking away, going into the bathroom and dumping all his Lumi stock (making a bit of money before the company all but implodes) just solidifies how self-serving every single one of these characters is. It’s the only way they manage to survive.
Which brings us to the breakfast meeting between Harper and Petra on the one hand, and Yas and Eric (hungover, having spent the night with a sex worker) on the other. It’s a humiliating moment for Eric and a triumphant one for Harper, who now finds her former boss at her whim. He can’t not take this new account but is utterly emasculated by the end when Harper insists he make eye contact with her. Here’s the cruelty Petra had warned her about; it’s so unnecessary and yet so in keeping with how Harper is intent on playing this game: with spite—and a terrifying sense of drive and ambition.
By the time Eric boards Henry’s plane again, he’s clearly in worse shape than he’s been so far. What doesn’t help: the way Yas heads back again to Henry and proceeds to hook up with him. Professional? Perhaps not. But again, she’s also figured out how to play this game so it tilts in her favor. And now: onward!
Stray observations
- • I did not anticipate Industry giving us “He has a big uncircumcised hog” as a line of dialogue yet here we are!
- • Can Eric’s midlife crisis get any bleaker? He’s resorting to “typical fuckboi prevarication” with lovely hookups in London and paying for sex workers in Bern—and trying to be reassured by both that he’s a good enough fuck.
- • “Fortune, good night: smile once more; turn thy wheel!” Honestly, anyone who quotes King Lear when starting up a business meeting (as Mostyn does) deserves our utmost disdain. It’s almost as pretentious as Harper then choosing to call her new fund with Petra Leviathan.
- • It’s getting to the point where Harper’s reputation now precedes her (what with both Eric and Jesse Bloom gabbing about her stint at Pierpoint). Will it finally catch up with her?
- • I can’t be the only one who had all too vivid flashbacks to Cruel Intentions while watching that pool scene between Henry and Yas, right? Speaking of, what do we feel is most impressive: Harington baring his bare ass or his delicious intonations of that Brit-posh accent?

Industry Season 3, Episode 2 Recap: Perception Is Reality
Tensions mount as the Pierpoint crew scrambles to rescue the Lumi IPO.

In episode 2, an uncomfortable silence sets in following the Lumi power outage. But at Pierpoint, chaos reigns. As the phones induce cacophony, Eric attempts to rally his little finance wizards to spin gold out of straw: “The story today is not the debt profile; it’s the growth trajectory!” But everyone knows better. Lumi is tanking.
Yasmin gets back on the phones, but this time it’s Harper’s FutureDawn boss Anna Gearing calling, and she wants to know if Pierpoint overvalued Lumi. Yasmin dismisses Anna’s concerns, but that doesn’t halt the uproar around her. It takes Bill Adler himself stepping down from the C-suite, raising market maker Rishi’s (Sagar Radia) risk limit, and suggesting his employees locate “a bit of poise,” before the Pierpoint crew finally falls into line. Eric freezes; he knows Bill’s intervention doesn’t bode well for his own ability to manage.
Meanwhile, Muck refuses to face the reality of his catastrophe. At the Lumi offices, he sets up a “war room” to address their PR fiasco—and, much to Robert’s horror, he decides to allow video interviews with the press. These interviews go about as smoothly as Rob predicted, and soon the Lumi stock is plummeting even deeper, sending Rishi and Co. into a tailspin. “It’s not my fault this is the way our clueless society decided we raise capital!” Muck laments, hurling a stuffed sunflower at the wall inside Lumi’s children’s playroom. Robert has reached his wit’s end babysitting Muck, especially considering Rob himself comes from the sort of working-class community that’ll actually be impacted by Lumi’s failures. “Your wins are yours ,” he rails at Muck, “and your losses? Well, they’re someone else’s problem.” Hilariously, this argument ends with the two men wrestling amongst the primary-colored bean bags and kindergarten toys of the playroom, where Rob tries to suffocate Muck with the stuffed sunflower.
Rob storms out of the Lumi offices before he commits actual murder, but as he makes his way down the block, he receives a call from his girlfriend, Venetia, who wants to know why Rob disappeared last night. (As you might recall , poor Mr. Spearing was visiting the home of one Nicole Craig, who died shortly after they had sex.) Venetia then apologizes for gifting him a necklace, and Rob realizes with terror that he abandoned the necklace in Nicole’s backyard. Unless he wants the police chasing him, he’ll want to go sweep that little piece of evidence up. But in attempting to do so, he encounters Nicole’s 15-year-old daughter, who wants to bond over their respective mommy issues and also—surprise!—wants to have sex with him, too! We should all know by now: In Industry , there’s no such thing as a well-adjusted human being.
The panic really sets in for Rob (and for Pierpoint) after Muck faces his board members, who’ve lost confidence in their CEO completely. When they make their intentions to oust him clear, Muck literally backs away through the conference room doors and runs for it. He then locks himself into a bathroom after swallowing a three-day dose of psilocybin. Rob, at a loss for how to proceed, calls in the big guns: Yasmin Kara-Hanani. For better or worse, she knows how to handle a wealthy man-child. “Be polite,” she commands Muck from outside the bathroom. “Look me in the eye.” Cowed, Muck’s conditioning kicks in, and he unlocks the door.
Yas then plays a surprisingly elegant game of rich-boy chess. She arranges for Muck and Rob to run into Otto Mostyn and British Electric’s Gregory Clark at a gentleman’s club on St. James’ Street. She then phones a newspaper and drops their reporters a tip: Charles Hanani’s daughter, Yasmin, was spotted on St. James’s Street. Her scheme works perfectly. Journalists appear outside the club just as Muck, Rob, Mostyn, and Clark exit together. Yas encourages the men to shake hands, and in doing so, she provides the ideal photo opp. Public perception of Lumi shifts as the images circulate; if Lumi’s CEO is out shaking hands with British Electric’s bigwig, then an acquisition could be forthcoming. The market calms, and Pierpoint ends the day with a “safe launch” of Lumi.
But over at FutureDawn, the celebration is taking place amidst a coup. Petra has taken an interest in Harper , despite the fact that Eric called FutureDawn nine times trying to convince the firm not to hire the young prodigy after her firing from Pierpoint in season 2. “So, either he really can’t stand you,” Petra tells Harper, “or he doesn’t want anyone else to have you.” Petra seems to believe that, if the latter is true, then Harper must be one hell of a trader. On that hunch, she lets Harper in on a secret: She wants to hedge FutureDawn’s exposure on the Lumi IPO, effectively going behind Anna’s back. Petra then asks Harper to point her in the direction of a “naive and amenable” Pierpoint employee who can help her with the aforementioned hedging. Harper responds without hesitation: Yasmin Kara-Hanani. Ouch.
Sure enough, Petra calls Yasmin to execute Harper’s suggested strategies, and Yasmin takes the bait. Only Eric seems to sense any strangeness. Why would FutureDawn suddenly be trading credit default swap protection on oil and natural gas names? If that sentence means nothing to you, don’t worry about the financial particulars; just know that it smells fishy, given Lumi’s near-implosion, and Eric senses Harper’s insider knowledge at work.
So does Anna. She barrels into Petra’s office, furious about the new trade confirmation she just received. Anna can’t comprehend Petra’s betrayal. “You drove me to the fucking hospital when I was having my fucking kid!” she shouts. “You are the godmother to fucking Boadicea!” (The fact that ESG-evangelist crunchy-mom Anna has a daughter named Boadicea? It tells you everything you need to know about a relatively minor character in a matter of seconds. Delicious .) To Petra’s credit, her response is equally cutting: “You asked me to be godmother. What was I gonna do? Say no?” No wonder Harper sees herself reflected in this brutal portfolio manager.
Then, to further establish the limitless bounds of her arrogance, Harper has the gall to sit at Petra’s desk after the latter’s abdicated her glass-walled office. She picks up Petra’s phone and dials Eric. When he answers, Harper doesn’t say a word; she only breathes quietly into the mouthpiece. But Eric has to know it’s her.
Later, Petra tells Harper she wants “to work with someone whose thinking isn’t confined to the orthodoxy of our times.” But if she is going to work with Harper, she needs to be able to trust her—and trust that Harper won’t take so much pleasure in screwing her former employer as she clearly did earlier that day.
For his part, Eric has made it clear he doesn’t want another Harper on his desk. Eager for praise after rescuing the Lumi IPO, Yasmin looks to him for a “well done,” but Eric warns her not to engage in such “market manipulation” again. Thrilled, frustrated, exhausted, and in eternal need of validation, Yasmin doesn’t require much convincing when she answers an unexpected call from Muck. He asks her to meet him for dinner, during which he reveals that he convinced his uncle—Lord Norton, the newspaper baron—to delete the “Embezzler Heiress” article about her.
Yasmin decides to thank Muck in the only way she knows how: manipulation of power. She invites him to join her in the restaurant bathroom. “Look at me,” she demands, meeting his gaze in the mirror. “Now look at you. That’s why this is never going to happen.” But she recalls an important tidbit from Sweetpea’s gossip earlier that morning: Muck is kinky, and he, uh... likes urine. Yasmin struts over to the toilets and proceeds to pee, prompting a wicked smile from Muck. He exits the bathroom and the restaurant before anything else untoward can happen between them, but he leaves an extremely rare bottle of wine at their table for Yas to take home. She chugs it on the curb outside the restaurant.
Finally—as if that weren’t enough drama for one episode!—we get a flashback to Yasmin’s trip on the Hanani yacht. Charles reveals to Yasmin that the Hanani Publishing empire is in trouble; if he returns to London, he’ll have to face criminal proceedings. Yas is furious at him for implicating her. They fight: She spits on him; he tosses a glass of wine in her face. He insists she’ll always come crawling back to him. Yas ends the episode on the yacht deck, Harper at her side, warning her not to cry. But the tears on Yasmin’s cheeks imply something serious has happened—something we’ve yet to have the privilege to watch.
