Boat Plans & Patterns

Glen-L has set the standard for boat plans for decades. All of our plans are intended for the amateur. It is not necessary that you have any experience with blueprints. Our plans are easy to read and easy to understand. You can find plans that sell for more but they frequently offer much less. It is unlikely that you will find plan packages as complete as ours at any price.

Why are Full Size Patterns so important?

Cabin patterns.

Full size CABIN PATTERNS are available on selected designs. While all designs with cabins have the necessary information and dimensions to build the cabin, the use of CABIN PATTERNS speeds up and simplifies the layout procedure. These patterns are transferred to the wood using the same procedure as used for Full Size Patterns.

If CABIN PATTERNS are not available for the design you are building, it is probably because the nature of the cabin structure is so basic that patterns do not offer much benefit.

Cabin Plans

Several boats have been designed without cabins and CABIN PLANS have later been added in response to builder requests. These plans contain all of the information and dimensions to build the cabin, including instructions. In many cases, the plans will be adaptable to several designs or offer cabin options for a single design. See the description on the design page for specific information.

• The iboats forum moderators would like to mention to all the iboaters here that we’re sorry but the website server seems to be running on half a cylinder and in order to post pictures, etc. you may have to use an outside hosting source, which we understand is not ideal, but its all we got at present. We are hoping that the administration can rectify this issue soon, but unfortunately at this time we can make no promises as to when... we have been working on letting the higher powers that be 'know of the situation... hang in there iboaters, we've been through a lot over the years and this is just another rough weather system rolling through to endure is all. He doesn't look like one to circle the ramp for half an hour. QC...post some pix of your Monaco project.

Re: Glen-l boats - worth it? I intend on selling mine. I have been in a slump ( I suck at painting) and trying to get remotivated . . . One good excuse for procrastinating is waiting on the market to come back. We have a couple of mountain lakes where a Chris type replica would sell, so I intend on focus marketing when I am ready to go. The paint scheme in the example above is very similar to mine with the exception that I am using dark blue, not green. Right now she is upside down and I am trying to get up the courage for my final coat. If I "F" it up, I will get her clear coated when I am finished and call it a day with that part of this project. I need to get her turned over and start building things instead of endless sanding and painting and sanding off F'ed up coats . . . She is an inboard, and the structure is all done (I bought it that way) search the restoration section for more info, I was hot and heavy this time last year. I'll check on my pics and post some more soon.

Re: Glen-l boats - worth it? Glen-L boats are geared to amature builders but there are some points where you'll have to figure out what or how you should do something. They have a great forum. Gayle Brantuk is running the show now and is really going all out to make things a lot better. Her Dad, Glenn Witt started the company. I was building one of their Aluminum designs when the price of Aluminum suddenly went out the roof and blew my budget completely out of whack. Stick with the wood boats and you won't have any problems. I will give you this warning, building wooden boats is an art and you will raise your personal levels of expecation. In otherwords, it will dissapoint you in a heartbeat but if you push through the dissapointing times the rewards are fabulous.

The feature that sets the GLEN-L 15 apart is the big cockpit. There's over 18 lineal feet of seating and plenty of foot room. The boat is ideal for a large family, and is safe and stable. The sloop rig provides excellent performance, and if desired, the jib may be left in the bag and the boat sailed single-handed. The main sail is large enough to allow good performance by itself.
