Lakewood Yacht Club is located on 38 beautifully landscaped acres with over 300 covered and open boat slips. Lakewood is more than just a yacht club. It is a haven for members, their families and guests. There is a sense of peace and tranquility that makes Lakewood an incomparable place of refuge combined with social and water activities.

The Bermuda-style clubhouse provides Lakewood’s 500 plus members with quiet harbor-view dining facilities and excellent cuisine provided by a professionally trained executive chef. Lakewood has a newly remodeled bar and piano lounge with several large screen televisions and a beautiful ballroom for monthly holiday/event parties as well as popular Sunday brunches. A Game Room provides supervised activities for members’ children.

There is something for everyone at Lakewood beginning with a strong agenda of regattas and cruises organized annually by Lakewood’s enthusiastic volunteers. An active Ladies Association has a busy monthly agenda, which includes a special summer activity. The Youth Program, known as the Seahorses, is guided year-round by the club’s parent volunteers and Lakewood’s full-time Sailing Director. Three lighted tennis courts and friendly but competitive monthly tennis socials and weekly matches add to the allure of Lakewood. Keels & Wheels Concours d’Elegance Launches Classic Car & Vintage Boat Show at the Lakewood Yacht Club, TX (Sunday, May 4-5 2024)

May 5 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm.

The Keels & Wheels Concours d’Elegance Classic Car and Boat Show will proudly display over 280 classic vehicles at the Lakewood Yacht Club in beautiful Seabrook, TX, on  May 4th and May 5th, 2024. This nationally acclaimed classic Concours d’Elegance is the single largest vintage car and wooden boat show in the country and attracts over 10,000 car and boat lovers from all over the world.

This year, the event celebrates its 28th anniversary and will host over 200 classic cars and 100 vintage boats that will compete for Concours awards and trophies. Additionally, the event will supply tons of fun with two days of LIVE Music & Entertainment, Southern Cooking,  Car & Boat Themed Parties, and Exclusive VIP Parties.

For The Past 27 Years, The Keels & Wheels Concours d’Elegance Has Taken Place on Beautiful Clear Lake at the Luxurious Lakewood Yacht Club Marina

This Years Theme Is: “Racing Thru Time, Man’s Need For Speed” For 2024’s car show, we will be featuring Vintage and Contemporary Race Cars from Le Mans, Indy, and Formula 1, as well as Racing Boats of all types and eras. Additionally, we will be honoring 100 years of MG cars and 70 years of the Corvette branded cars. The Keels & Wheels Concours d’Elegance will feature a FREE car show on Saturday and an official Concours d’Elegance on Sunday that includes competition and judging for multiple trophies and awards.

There will be over 200 cars separated into 40 unique classes that range from old antique cars from 1900 to modern supercars from 2024. Below is a full list of famous vehicle makes, models, manufacturers, brands, and marques that will be featured at the car show.

The event provides a one-of-a-kind lakefront display of classic vehicles from all over the world while celebrating an educational experience for the history and evolution of automobiles and boating.

Beyond a good time, The Keels & Wheels event raises money for major charities. Over the years, Keels &Wheels has supported local charities such as the Boys and Girls Clubs of Houston, The Leukemia Society, The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, The Boys and Girls Harbor, and Today’s Harbor for Children Foundation. Over the past 26 years, the event has raised over $1.8 Million for local Charities.

FEATURED CLASSIC CARS ON DISPLAY Car classes will be organized into about 40 unique classes including the following

• American and European Post & Pre War Cars Years 1920 – 1972, Antique Cars from 1900 – 1919, Chevrolet Vehicles of the 40s – 60s, and Pick Up Trucks everything before 1950.
• From over the pond, European classic cars on display will be from legendary European marques such as Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Ferrari, BMW, Maserati, Mercedes, MG, Jaguar, Morgan, Porsche, Triumph, and the Grand Daddy of them all, Rolls-Royce & Bentley.
• From the USA, some of the famous classic collectible cars on display will be from such famous iconic brands as Corvette, Mustang, Ford GT 40, Shelby, Packard, Cadillac LaSalle, Lincoln, and Thunderbird.
• Lastly, the specialty vehicle collection classics display will be Electric Cars, Supercars, Motorcycles, Hot Rods, Street Rods & Rat Rods

FEATURED VINTAGE WOODEN BOATS ON DISPLAY

The Vintage boat competition and the show will take place in the Lakewood Yacht Club Marina on both Saturday, May 6, and Sunday, May 7 from 9 am to 5 pm.

The boat show will be broken down into unique classes such as Cruiser, Runabout, Historic, Historic Sail, etc. Additionally, they will be separated into categories such as Historic, Antique, Classic, Contemporary, and Replica. Below are the classes and categories that will both be on display and judged for awards.

• Historic Boats that were built before 1919
• Antique & Historic Boats manufactured from 1919 to 1942
• Classic Boats that were built between 1943 and 1975
• Late Classic Era Boats Boats were built between 1976 to 1990
• Contemporary Wooden Boats built over the past 25 years.
• Custom Boats that have been modified in any way
• Classic Glass Boats with glass bottoms up to 1990 only
• Replica Boats are built to copy historic boats of any year.

AWARDS & PRESENTATIONS After the cars are judged on Saturday, Formal Awards will be presented on Sunday. Awards will be presented by the coveted “Best of Class” Award (One for each vehicle class), the “Corinthian Awards”,  and the “Commodores Award” for Best of Show. 

2023 KEELS & WHEELS “BEST OF SHOW” The 1932 Packard Convertible Coupe was awarded Best in Class , alongside the 1935 Auburn 851 Speedster , which also earned a Best in Class title. The event honored Tony Gullo Sr. as the 2023 Collector of the Year , celebrating his significant contributions to the collector community. Additionally, the 1978 Bertram 585 , named “Liberty Belle” and owned by Richard Mitchell of Montgomery, TX, triumphed in the Classic Cruiser category, securing 1st Place for its exceptional condition and historic significance.

We look forward to your visit, whether you are an Entrant , a Sponsor or just enoying the show. This page has the schedule of events, as planned, but please note, things happen and we cannot guarantee things to occur at these times, we are doing our best to provide the best schedule possible so you can plan.

The Keels & Wheels Concours d’Elegance will take place at the Lakewood Yacht Club with plenty of cars and boats to view, food, vendors and more.

The classic cars are divided into roughly 40 classes. Formal judging takes place on Saturday and awards are presented on Sunday.

Awards include Best of Class and Silver, in each automobile class. Corinthian Awards are awarded to cars deserving of Special Mention. The awards presentation ends with the ultimate award known as the “Commodores Award” for Best of Show.

The vintage boats are divided into roughly 20 classes. This year we are honoring all Classic and Vintage Boats. Formal judging takes place on Saturday.

The boat awards are presented on Saturday. Awards include Best of Class and Silver in each boat class.

Corinthian Awards are awarded to boats deserving of Special Mention.  The Awards presentation ends with the ultimate award known as the “Commodores Award” for Best of Show.

Spent the afternoon with family on the water. Nice stop for a birthday lunch. Great service. Beautiful views of the Yacht Club and the marina. The red snapper, fish and chips and chicken quesadillas are delicious. If you are lucky enough to know a member, they also have a delicious Sunday brunch.

I only came here for our work Christmas party, so I don't know that I can really rate the whole place, as we were in a ballroom out by the tennis courts. The parts I did see were great, though, and everyone was super friendly! We were in one of the ballrooms, and when you walk in there was a foyer, and bathrooms around the corner, then you walk into the ballroom area with the DJ, the food, and the bar, plus all the tables. Everything was really nice and set up so pretty! I started drinking too early and got no photos...well, none that I can share on Yelp! The food was average; there were green beans, breaded chicken, garlic mashed potatoes, steak medallions and fried shrimp. It was good, but nothing extraordinary. They had desserts but nothing that tempted me too much. The bartender was great though, and was very generous with the drinks! Everything was decorated really prettily, and there were 3 or 4 tables set up for gambling, but I was on the little dance floor...I'm not much of a gambler. Well, I'm not much of a dancer either, but I do enjoy that more! It was a good time, and I am lucky enough to be employed by a small family company that really appreciates their employees. This place is nice, and if you'e invited to a corporate event here, or invited by members, go ahead and go, as it's a nice place with decent food!

I attended a charity cocktail function there. Our very limited bar set up was not ready. We went to the open lounge and were evicted in no uncertain terms by one of the staff. We received a lot of attention from others at tables around us. We did not receive advice on our event tickets that there would be off limit areas in the building or by any staff member greeting us as we arrived. Remember, we didn't walk in randomly, we were guests of a function and a member is part of this particular charitable event. I organize a few social opportunities and would never consider booking this venue on the chance that one of my guests would be embarrassed in that way.

LYC is a five star yacht club in every way.

One of my mom's friends hosted a wedding shower for me here. It was so great! It was great for the hostess too. She was able to enjoy the shower and didn't have to clean her house to host the shower, and someone else made all the food! The servers were very attentive. We had a menu and were able to order what we wanted. I had the club sandwich and it was great. We also all had a chocolate brownie a la mode with fudge and caramel sauce. Ohhhhh it was so good! Then we went to go look at my hostess's boat. They have such a nice place to keep your boat. Everyone knows each other here. I have also been to a wedding here. It was a great event! We had our food served to us. They had a large dance floor so everyone could get on it. We had a great time! Also there is plenty of parking for your guests. It is a little hard to find but I think the yacht club likes it that way, so you can only get there if you know where it is, like a secret club.

While the catfish was good and the server was professional, after almost swallowing a 1/4" piece of sharp triangle-shaped bone, I requested to speak with a manager. I was refused the opportunity to speak to a manager, due to a special event he was attending. I was told by the executive chef that since bone is a naturally occurring part of the fish, that there was nothing they should be expected to do about it. I disagree. Had I not removed the bone from my mouth, I could have been injured. A simple discount and apology would be nice, because negligence is never okay, even if you're not a member.

LYC has great food and great people. Sunday brunch is amazing!

Eggs Benedict was to die for!!

Very nice yacht club! They have great security and a delicious grill and bar! Seriously, I was amazed with all of our food! Everything was Cooke to perfection and tasted wonderful! The chef here knows what they are doing! The staff is exceptionally nice and everyone seems to know each other. If you have a boat I highly suggest renting out a slip. If not, try to meet someone that does!

I had my wedding reception here in June of 2011 and it was absolute perfection. I was surprised to find that this place was within my budget considering how nice it is and that you don't need to be a member to have a wedding there. If you think that food is a very important factor in your wedding this is definitely the place. I still have compliments from the food at my wedding to this day! The chicken piccata and the salmon were amazing! I urge anyone who is having a wedding of about 130-160 guests to definitely check this place out!

J/Fest Southwest Using Yacht Scoring

This year J/Fest Southwest is using Yacht Scoring to manage registration , online purchases, crew waivers and scoring. A few things you need to know. You will establish an email address (username) and password and all your data will be kept in the Yacht Scoring database so you only need to enter once for all future regattas in their system. The layout is quite different and there are many fields, but not too many more than before. The skipper is responsible for entering boat info, handicap rating, crew names, and emails. It is a little more work the first time you register, but it will pay off at the event as your registration will be complete and provide you with more time to socialize!

Battle of Clubs at the Resolute Cup

Hosted by New York Yacht Club, the 2024 Resolute Cup serves as a Corinthian Championship for U.S. Yacht Clubs. The seventh edition is being held September 11-14 as 28 club teams race Sonars on Narragansett Bay in Newport, RI. Here is the day two report:

Letting one’s guard down for a mere second is absolutely not an option in the ever-challenging Resolute Cup, as the team from Corinthian Yacht Club (Marblehead, MA) can attest. Just shy of first by one point after delivering consistent scores over the first two days of racing, CYC crew member Miranda Bakos knows that no position on the course is ever safe.

“Even if you have a gap around other boats, it’s never comfortable, so we’re really trying to fight and fight,” says Bakos. “There’s a lot of defending, just trying to keep boats that are behind us behind us, and not necessarily worrying about the boats that are beating us.”

Stunning late-summer weather blessed Narragansett Bay for the second day of racing as the southerly continued to build throughout the day to a fresh 10 to 12 knots, and six races were sailed. Through 11 races, 10 different teams have won a race.

After winning the event in 2022 and finishing as the runner-up at the 2023 Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup, the CYC team skippered by Wade Waddell is 100 percent focused on staying at the top of the results table by planning smart and executing with confidence.

“Our teamwork today was really focused on keeping calm and making really smart decisions, we were super focused on boat speed, moving our weight and adjusting as needed, we were never really too slow; keeping power forward was our focus,” adds Bakos.

“We tried to think ahead and plan many moves in advance, so we never felt rushed, and we always felt like the four people on board could contribute their perspective. That helped us stick to smart plans and feel confident in our decision so that we could learn and improve for the next leg.

“We had some good moments on each side of the course and some bad moments on each side; it was a matter of sticking in that moment, because what was working the prior race wasn’t necessarily working the next.”

Sitting in third at the end of Day 2, Eastern Yacht Club’s Alden Reid notes that his team focused on clean starts after a rough first day. Eastern finished fourth in 2022 and are striving for a podium finish.

“On Day 1, we let ourselves get bounced toward the middle and then tried to come back; today we focused on getting off the line as best we could, keeping our bow clear and going as fast as we could,” says Reid.

“It’s not a one-way racecourse; getting off the line clean sets you up, it puts you in the top pack. And once you’re in the top pack, you’ve got more choices. It is a great event so far. The competition is very good. You can’t make any mistakes; make a mistake and people definitely take advantage.”

After finishing second in the silver fleet in 2022, the New York Yacht Club team is putting together an promising performance this year. The host club is currently fourth, a solid start to the regatta for a team that has not competed much together.

“I think a lot of it’s coming down to the crew work,” says crew John Mastrandrea. “We haven’t spent much time sailing together and our communication is getting better, like decision-making on the racecourse.

“We stumbled a bit yesterday with boat speed, but we seem to have figured that out. We had a bit of a tough start in the first race today, then found our stride; we’re trying to minimize distance to the line when the gun goes to zero which has been helping.”

Racing for the Resolute Cup will continue through September 14. On the final day, the fleet will be halved for up to three final double-point races.

Light Air and Flat Water Make Every Inch Count at 2024 Resolute Cup

The stakes couldn’t be higher at the 2024 Resolute Cup, and the Corinthian Yacht Club (CYC) team from Marblehead, Massachusetts, knows it all too well. Sitting just one point shy of the lead after two days of fierce competition, CYC crew member Miranda Bakos emphasized how unforgiving the race can be, with no position ever guaranteed in this high-stakes event.

“No position is ever comfortable,” Bakos said. “Even if you’ve got a gap around other boats, it’s never safe. We’re always defending, fighting to keep boats behind us without getting too distracted by the teams ahead.”

Day 2 of the Resolute Cup, hosted at the New York Yacht Club Harbour Court in Newport, Rhode Island, saw a mix of stunning late-summer weather and brisk competition. The breeze built throughout the day to a solid 10 to 12 knots, allowing for six intense races. With 11 races completed so far, the scoreboards are constantly shifting, highlighting the unpredictability of this regatta. Ten different teams have already claimed race wins.

Since its inception in 2010, the Resolute Cup has become the premier Corinthian Championship for U.S. Yacht Clubs and the only direct route to the Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup, the most prestigious event in Corinthian sailing. The 2024 edition continues that legacy, with teams sailing in evenly matched Sonars and relying on smart strategy and exceptional teamwork to come out on top.

For the Corinthian Yacht Club team, skippered by Wade Waddell, success has come through discipline and deliberate planning. “Our teamwork today was all about staying calm and making smart decisions,” Bakos added. “We focused on boat speed, weight distribution, and anticipating moves. That helped us stick to our strategy and feel confident in our decisions.”

Meanwhile, Eastern Yacht Club, another strong contender, rebounded after a tough start on Day 1. Skipper Alden Reid credited their comeback to better starts and staying aggressive. “On Day 1, we got caught in the middle of the fleet and had to fight our way back. Today, we focused on clean starts, keeping our bow clear, and staying fast,” Reid said. “Once you’re in the top pack, you have more options, and that’s critical in a regatta like this.”

Eastern Yacht Club finished Day 2 in third place, determined to improve on their fourth-place finish in 2022. They’re not alone in the fight. The New York Yacht Club team, host of the event, is also showing promise after a shaky start, currently sitting in fourth place. “We’re still figuring things out as a crew,” said NYYC’s John Mastrandrea. “But our communication is improving, and we’re getting more comfortable with our decision-making. We’ve made adjustments in boat speed, and it’s paying off.”

As the regatta heads into the final days, the competition will only get fiercer. The teams will be split into two fleets for the final day of racing, with up to three double-point races deciding the ultimate winner. Racing continues through Saturday, with action taking place on Narragansett Bay, providing a thrilling backdrop to the prestigious event.
