Superyacht NAUTILUS is a charter yacht that combines the finest Italian craftsmanship and pedigree with innovative Perini Navi design and engineering.

The 239.50ft/73m Custom expedition yacht NAUTILUS was delivered from the Picchiotti shipyard in 2014 and bears an exterior styled by Philippe Briand whilst her refreshing interior has been designed by Remi Tessier.

Setting out to create a superyacht which would exude Zen and possess a greener carbon footprint, the multi award-winning NAUTILUS features a range of luxury amenities arranged around a design which privileges both space and comfort. Powered by hybrid diesel-electric plants, and including a dynamic positioning system, the high volume superyacht is also exceptionally quiet both when underway and at-anchor.  

Exterior Design

Designed by the French naval architect Philippe Briand, the elegant hull of superyacht NAUTILUS was shaped with both hydrodynamics and space in mind. Indeed, whilst her plumb bow ensures efficient performance, it also maximises the waterline length and provides plenty of volume for the French designer Remi Tessier to carry out his iconic minimalist styling to full effect. On the sundeck, Tessier has extended his usual preference for uninterrupted spaces to produce an environment which nicely captures the Zen the owner’s specifically requested. Anticipating both sunbathers and leisurely guests, a number of custom sunpads which are able to rotate 360° have been partnered with similarly bespoke sun loungers with built-in biminis for instant shade. Keen to provide every reason to enjoy meals alfresco, a table has been slightly lowered to provide a private and intimate dining experience with unobstructed views extending well over the ocean. Naturally, there’s a sizable Jacuzzi on the main deck aft in order to take in the tropical climate in style, and a coffee bar at the aft deck which can be easily converted to a cocktail bar when the evening calls for more drinks. Perhaps the crowning feature of the exterior is the LEDs which have been installed above the social areas, which, when lit, discreetly communicate to the crew that guests are politely asking for a degree of privacy. Getting between these various areas could not be easier, as Superyacht NAUTILUS features a walk around layout which nicely lends itself for brisk evening strolls at sunset. With her tender garage opening up on the port side, guests are able to enjoy the sizable swim platform off the stern of NAUTILUS without having to compete for room with inflatable toys and snorkelling equipment. Of course, the more adventurous party members will be only too satisfied with the range of toys on offer, and there’s assuredly endless hours of fun on the water to be had.

Interior Design

In the interior of superyacht NAUTILUS lighting plays a huge role. Indeed, overhead lighting, recessed lighting, and even illuminated furniture combine to create a quietly sophisticated ambience which is at the same time wholly inviting. Space also plays a big role in the interior- there’s over two metres of headroom in the main salon, for instance, and the layout is largely open-plan to make moving through the yacht a memorable experience in itself. In terms of texture, Tessier has selected an assortment of light sycamore, bleached wenge, and even some high gloss ebony for certain window frames. With careful attention to contouring and accents of palladium, both the social and private spaces found indoors are as comfortable as they are aesthetically impressive. The main salon, for example, bears a light grey colour scheme and multiple seating options surrounding a collection of coffee tables. Instead of an abundance of decorative fixtures, Tessier has simply added a unique artwork by the American artist Edward Ruscha, a finishing touch which completes the area in a suitably outstanding fashion. Other areas inside are entirely consistent with such a principle- the additional salon and dining area both provide lounging options in a strikingly contemporary setting. Unsurprisingly, such an impressive interior ultimately led NAUTILUS to receive a number of awards at the Monaco Yacht Show Awards the year she was delivered, and continues to impress every kind of charter guest she welcomes on-board.

Guest Accommodation

Spread across two decks, the seven cabins available to guests each possess large windows to allow for an abundance of natural light to complement the electric lighting on offer. Similar to the social spaces, all of the cabins are outfitted with bright and comfortable furnishings, meaning that guests can enjoy time alone whilst not having to sacrifice an inch on the beauty of their surroundings. The master suite on the main deck includes his and hers bathrooms nicely separated by a limestone bath, as well as additional seating on either side of the bed.

Onboard Comfort & Entertainment

Possessing plenty of garage space, NAUTILUS comes with a veritable arsenal of towable water toys and snorkelling equipment to keep everyone occupied whilst it’s warm outside. For those more inclined towards chilling out with a couple of drinks, an observation room on the upper deck allows guests to greet the coasts on the horizon and take some stunning photographs from an unrivalled vantage point. Another feature of NAUTILUS sure to arrest the attention of charter guests is the Oculus entertainment system. Connected to the various television screens on board, guests are able to use the system to track their position in real time as well as switching over to watch footage of the yacht as it carries them along.

Special Features

When designing NAUTILUS, her owners paid particular attention to methods which would adequately reduce the noise on board. Via multiple strategies including sound dampening and other innovative approaches, decibel readings in the master suite when cruising at 14 knots showed there was only 42.6dB- which could be heard- a level just above a whisper. What’s more, eco-friendly systems have been installed to ensure less damage to the waters the superyacht moves through. Such engineering features include an exhaust route which mitigates fumes as well as a waste management process which operates at optimum efficiency. As an expedition yacht, NAUTILUS also comes with dynamic positioning, a system which allows her to remain stationary without the use of an anchor as well as having greater manoeuvrability around ports.

The upper deck is completely dedicated to wellness, with a spa, massage suite, hydrotherapy bath, and even a hair salon on offer for guests in need of some refreshment. As well as being annexed by small and casual dining tables, the space is flanked by large windows to create a suitably harmonious tone. Enclosed by expansive sliding windows, the gymnasium on offer brings together all of the equipment and facilities necessary for a truly satisfying workout whilst looking out across the ocean.

Performance & Range

As a custom displacement yacht, NAUTILUS also features ‘at anchor stabilisers’ which work at zero speed, increasing onboard comfort whilst at anchor or on rough waters. NAUTILUS is built to comply to MCA and Lloyds Register standards. With a cruising speed of 14 knots, a maximum speed of 16.5 knots and a range of 7,000nm from her 185,000litre fuel tanks, she is the perfect combination of performance and luxury.

Equipped with an extensive selection of action-packed water toys Nautilus lets you and your guests turn the Mediterranean into your own private playground. Take to the sea on the Jet Skis offering you power and control on the water. Guests can feel the wind in their hair and jump the waves on one of the four Seadoo WaveRunners. If you or a member of your party loves diving, then you'll appreciate the dive compressor and diving equipment. If that isn't enough Nautilus also features a seabob, kayaks, inflatable water toys, paddleboards and snorkelling equipment. And with a dynamic positioning system, not only is NAUTILUS virtually silent at sea, there is no need to drop anchor in fragile environments, leading to greener cruising, meaning you can feel even better about yourself.

As perhaps the most luxurious on-the-water wellness centre, the NAUTILUS yacht extends the relaxing atmosphere of her Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and massage area throughout her 73 metres.

The award-winning NAUTILUS yacht was launched in 2014 to great applause for her improved efficiency and ability to reduce her footprint on the areas she visits . Her dynamic positioning system means it’s possible to avoid dropping anchor in fragile environments, while features like the systems that mitigate her exhaust fumes or allow you to store waste on board for extended periods bolster her eco title. She’s also virtually silent at sea, which helps enhance the zen-like feeling while underway.

The Remi Tessier-designed interior of the NAUTILUS motor yacht is simple, finished in neutral tones and with an open-plan layout to create a spacious, clean environment that helps to foster an uncluttered mind.

Up to 12 guests can be accommodated during a NAUTILUS yacht charter across a master suite, two VIP cabins, two doubles and two twins.

NAUTILUS has everything you’d expect from a wellness-focused luxury superyacht and more. There’s a classic sauna and steam room, a 3.5-metre resistance pool on her main deck aft and a Jacuzzi on her sun deck aft. She’s got ample deck space for you to enjoy a workout in the fresh air or simply recline on her rotating sun beds with pop-up biminis to boost your Vitamin D levels.

Head up to the sky lounge to compete in games like table tennis or foosball while you take in the panoramic ocean views, or go down to her swim platform if you want to exercise in the water.

You can enjoy a more formal meal around her dining table located forward of the main salon, then head back to the soft sofas for a relaxing digestif. If you prefer a bit more flare with your Japanese fare, you can watch your food being prepared at the sit-up sushi bar.

2 Crew Members Under Investigation In Sicily Yacht Sinking

As the investigation into the sinking of the superyacht off the coast of Sicily broadens, Italian prosecutors are now scrutinizing the actions of two other crew members in addition to the captain of the vessel.

On Wednesday, prosecutors placed crew members Tim Parker Eaton and Matthew Griffiths under investigation, according to The New York Times . Eaton was in charge of the yacht’s engine room, while Griffiths was on lookout duty the night the yacht sank.

When someone is placed under investigation in Italy, there is no guarantee that charges will follow.

The Bayesian, a 184-foot British-flagged yacht deemed unsinkable by its ship maker Perini Navi, went down in a storm off the coast of Sicily on Aug. 19, killing one crew member and six passengers, including British tech magnate Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter, Hannah.

The yacht carried 22 people — 10 crew members and 12 guests who were there celebrating Lynch’s acquittal in June on all charges in a fraud case that followed the sale of his company Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard for $11 billion in 2011.

Fifteen of the 22 people aboard survived by escaping on a lifeboat and were rescued by the sailboat Sir Robert Baden Powell. It remains unclear how the Bayesian sank, especially as the nearby Baden Powell remained largely unscathed despite the storm.

According to The Associated Press , Giovanni Costantino, head of the Italian Sea Group, which owns Perini Navi, said the yacht’s sinking was likely caused by human error.

“The ship sank because it took on water. From where, the investigators will say,” he told Italian state media, per the AP.

Captain James Cutfield is facing a manslaughter inquiry to determine whether his actions caused the shipwreck, Cutfield’s lawyer Giovanni Rizzuti told the Times on Tuesday. Prosecutors interviewed Cutfield this week, but he exercised his right to remain silent and is “very distressed,” according to Rizzuti.

This week, nine of the 10 crew members, including those under investigation, left Sicily, sources told the Times. In Italy, people under investigation are not prohibited from leaving the country.

Vessels like Mike Lynch's stricken superyacht are "unsinkable", according to the chief executive of the firm which makes and sells them.

Giovanni Costantino, CEO of The Italian Sea Group, told Sky News there are no flaws with the design and construction of the Bayesian superyacht which capsized in a storm off the coast of Porticello, Sicily, on Monday.

Five bodies were found by divers on Wednesday - taking the number of confirmed dead to six.

The Italian Sea Group also owns the firm that built British tech tycoon Mr Lynch's Bayesian, and Mr Costantino said the vessels "are the safest in the most absolute sense".

"Being the manufacturer of Perini [boats], I know very well how the boats have always been designed and built," he said.

"And as Perini is a sailing ship... sailing ships are renowned to be the safest ever."

He said their structure and keel made them "unsinkable bodies".

Mr Costantino said news of the sinking "put me in a state of sadness on one side and of disbelief on the other".

"This incident sounds like an unbelievable story, both technically and as a fact," he said.

It is understood Italian prosecutors investigating the incident are continuing to hold interviews with the survivors.

On Tuesday they questioned the captain for more than two hours to help reconstruct what happened and provide useful technical details.

Four British inspectors are also in Porticello and have begun a preliminary assessment of events.

It is understood they will look at all relevant aspects of the incident, including the design, stability, and operation of the vessel. They will also examine the effects of the weather conditions experienced.

Divers will resume efforts on Thursday morning to bring ashore a body they found earlier. One more person remains missing.

Les procureurs siciliens ont annoncé ce samedi avoir ouvert une enquête pour homicide involontaire par négligence, après le naufrage du super-yacht qui a fait sept morts près de Palerme, tout en soulignant que les investigations n'en étaient qu'à leurs prémices. « Nous n'excluons rien », a déclaré lors d'une conférence de presse le procureur Ambrogio Cartosio après le naufrage du voilier de luxe Bayesian dans une tempête à l'aube, lundi 19 août.

Un naufrage rapide qui soulève des questions

Le luxueux super voilier de 56 mètres a sombré en quelques minutes après le passage soudain d'une trombe marine. Quinze personnes ont été sauvées, dont six passagers.

La vitesse à laquelle le yacht a coulé et le fait que les autres bateaux autour de lui n'aient pas été touchés soulèvent des questions, notamment celle de savoir si la quille lestée, qui fait contrepoids à l'imposant mât, était abaissée ou relevée au moment de la tempête.

Le patron du groupe naval The Italian Sea Group, propriétaire du chantier naval Perini Navi qui a construit le Bayesian , a pointé du doigt l'erreur humaine. Nautilus International, un syndicat maritime, a réagi réclamant une « enquête approfondie et impartiale » dans un communiqué et a mis en garde contre le fait de remettre en question la conduite de l'équipage « sans connaître tous les faits ».

Le corps de la dernière victime retrouvé vendredi

Les pompiers italiens ont retrouvé vendredi le corps de la fille âgée de 18 ans du magnat britannique de la tech Mike Lynch, dernière disparue du naufrage du yacht survenu lundi en Sicile, qui a fait sept morts au total, dont le milliardaire.

Après la découverte d'un premier corps lundi, celui du cuisinier de bord, six personnes étaient portées disparues à la suite du naufrage du Bayesian . Le corps de Mike Lynch, 59 ans, a été récupéré jeudi. Ce richissime homme d'affaires, surnommé le « Bill Gates britannique », fêtait avec ses amis, collaborateurs et avocats, sa relaxe en juin dans un procès pour fraude aux États-Unis qui aurait pu lui coûter des années de prison.

Parmi les victimes figurent Jonathan Bloomer, le président du conseil d'administration de Morgan Stanley International – une branche de la banque américaine – et de l'assureur Hiscox, ainsi que son épouse Judy, et Chris Morvillo, un avocat qui a défendu Mike Lynch dans son procès aux États-Unis, avec son épouse Neda.

Remonter le « Bayesian » à la surface, une opération délicate et coûteuse

Le Bayesian , propriété de sa famille Lynch, était doté d'un mât de 75 mètres, le plus haut mât de voile en aluminium au monde, selon le site de la société de location Charter World.

La délicate et complexe opération pour le remonter à la surface coûterait probablement quelque 15 millions d'euros et prendrait « six à huit semaines », selon le responsable qui a dirigé l'opération de récupération du navire de croisière Costa Concordia, qui a sombré au large de l'Italie en 2012.

Pour récupérer le yacht, le mât pourrait être démonté sur le fond marin et le bateau serait ensuite soulevé entier à l'aide d'une grue géante et d'une équipe de 40 plongeurs spécialisés, a expliqué le Sud-Africain Nick Sloane au quotidien La Repubblica.
