The RiNo Yacht Club Bids Farewell to the Source
After a February 1 rager (to which you’re all invited), pro-team Mary Allison Wright and McLain Hedges set sail for their own brick-and-mortar space.
The Local newsletter is your free, daily guide to life in Colorado. For locals, by locals. Sign up today!
When Eater Denver broke the news that the RiNo Yacht Club would be leaving the Source on Brighton Boulevard for a permanent spot elsewhere, drinkers across Denver wondered: Where will cocktail darlings (and husband-and-wife team) Mary Allison Wright and McLain Hedges land next? What will the new iteration of the RYC be like? Wright shared a few juicy details with us (with more to come when they’ve secured a space).
5280 : How does it feel to be saying goodbye to the Source?
Mary Allison Wright : It’s very exciting because we finally get to create something that we’ve had a vision and a hope for… but we didn’t anticipate being so emotional. This was our last week in our home! [The Source] is where we were born, in a way.
The RYC farewell party is on Friday, February 1. What can we expect?
MAW : We’ll kick it off at 6 p.m., but from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. we’ll hold the last “Source After Hours” party hosted by the RYC. Bartender friends from around the globe are coming in to help us: Kelsey Ramage and Iain Griffiths from Trash Tiki and Dandelyan [Modern Botany], Chris Elford [from Navy Strength in Seattle], Curt CaRillo from Sweet Liberty’s opening crew in Miami, and Death & Co.’s David Kaplan are all going to be there. Musically, there are two groups and a single person who have done cameos at our previous late nights that are returning; the lineup is a surprise! We’ll also be doing some of our greatest hits: batched Champagne bottle cocktails, a limited run of farewell T-shirts and coasters designed by Wonder Works… all the best RYC shenanigans. There will be Smōk fried chicken at 10 p.m. as well.
What can you tell us about the forthcoming RYC brick-and-mortar?
MAW : It’s not too far off! We’re still looking for our new home, but we know that we want to take everything we’ve seen and done and learned at the Source and envelop it into a community center/club/bar. During the day, there will be community activations when we’ll host people and other clubs that might not have the money for their own space; for example, we want to bring Heather Haas [of H. J. Haas ] back so she can sell her knives out of the space. Everyone will be welcome, and there will be an easy transition from day to nighttime rowdiness. It’ll be the anti-club club.
Until the doors open, where can Denverites find you?
MAW : We’re taking RYC on the road! We’ll do pop ups in Denver and around the country. We’ll announce a few dates at the farewell party and let people know how to follow us. We’re going back to that first description of who RYC was: Like the East Coast and Southern yacht clubs where all are welcome, serving different types of needs for going out. With our classic yacht club-gutter punk vibe, of course.
If you go: The RiNo Yacht Club’s farewell party at the Source takes place on Friday, February 1 from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., 3350 Brighton Blvd. Admission is free.

I understand why this was voted one of the best cocktail bars in North America! Had the Cocoffee Negroni and the frozen banana daiquiri. Both were so good! There are no signs on the entrance, just go through the door with the anchor! They also serve hot dogs! All the bartenders and waiters staff are terrific!

Yacht Club is a cool little spot with a lot going for it, especially when it comes to ambiance. This small bar, tucked next to a fantastic French restaurant, has a unique charm that makes it a great place to hang out. The live music on Sundays from 8-11 PM is a big plus. Our experience with the drinks was a bit mixed, though. None of us really loved our first round, which was a surprise for a group of seven. It might have been a case of user error in ordering, as everyone did enjoy their second drinks much more. The menu leans toward spirit-forward cocktails, so keep that in mind when making your selection. Despite the initial hiccup, I'm definitely open to giving Yacht Club a second chance. The ambiance alone makes it worth another visit, and I'm optimistic about finding a favorite drink next time around.
main problem is the FOOD PREPARATION (note: this is done bar side so anyone present, including unfortunately those about to be served food, can easily observe): the preparer doesn't ever wash hands, wears no gloves, touches his HANDS TO MOUTH and face repeatedly while handling bun and fixing dog, and incredibly also tastes some of the condiments in between placing on patrons' dogs, also while handling drinks, money, garbage, etc., again all while touching your food in front of you, and seemingly zero sense it is abnormal...comical unless it is your food. good bar but is also comical-not as bad as food preparation, the best thing tho is the 3.50 high life's as wine, mezcal or gin, rye, rum etc just doesn't mix very well, in a single drink, duh another reason why Denver will never be considered a real city, people in NY, LA, and other major US cities would never observe this poor quality of food preparation and tolerate, disgusting, and certainly the yuppies not vote it as a better cocktail bar, duh
This is a fun, funky little bar, which is a nice follow-up to dinner at Brasserie Brixton next door. We just had a couple cocktails/wine. I don't love natural wine, so I might stick to the cocktails/beer next time.
Yacht Club is a chill place to get a great cocktail. Friendly staff helps guide you to choices that suit your taste. They have a new cocktail menu with a variety of options. I decided to try the Ded Reckoning - a mix of smoky mezcal, tequila, sweet vermouth, cacao, and mole. It was a nice, spirit forward drink. They also are known for their hot dogs which are a great compliment to the cocktails if you need a bite to eat.

After exploring numerous top 50 bars across America, I've finally discovered the epitome of excellence - Yacht Club. Without a doubt, it stands out as the best bar I've encountered so far. The uniqueness and deliciousness of every drink on their menu left me thoroughly impressed. However, "The Fourth Color" stole the show and became an instant favorite. If I find myself in Denver again, I'm committing to ordering 10 glasses of this delightful concoction every night. Special thanks to the long-haired gentleman who recommended this extraordinary drink. His expertise added an extra layer of enjoyment to an already fantastic evening. Kudos to Yacht Club for delivering an unparalleled bar experience that has set the standard for my future explorations. Cheers to many more unforgettable nights!

5 stars all day. What a great find!! Stumbled into an upscale dive bar and the best part is, they sell fancy hot dogs. Definitely a great spot to meet people and bring people from out of town!!!
I don't normally write reviews for bars but this place is a hidden gem! Unique and perfectly crafted cocktails. You won't find anything else like this. A huge selection of unique drinks including a ton of clarified milk drinks that confuse your brain with how something so clear can have such a balance of flavors. Super friendly & knowledgeable bartenders (shout out to coleman!). It's the cocktails of your dreams without the pretentiousness of a cocktail bar. Unassuming almost dive bar vibes - you'd think its a place to just get a beer. But obviously don't - the bar tenders are seriously talented. Perfect spot to hang out, have fun, and enjoy amazing drinks. Bonus points is that they serve hot dogs! And not just your normal ketchup and mustard, but specialty items that are a perfect pairing with drinks. Do yourself a favor and check this place out!
I may be missing something or my taste is just not aligned - but I've never had a good cocktail here. They're definitely interesting and innovative, but are almost always a flavor disaster or trying too hard (in my experience). The vibes are cool, but definitely depends on when you come in and whether or not you know anyone there. I've never experienced so much blatant staring at a bar, and I'm nobody interesting. May be due to the small size, or may be that the clientele is the young "too cool" crowd. Occasional "what are you doing in our bar" vibes. Can be super uncomfortable. The bartenders are very knowledgable and very cool/nice, but don't expect quick service. This is definitely a "be prepared to hang for a while" type of speed. Also hot as HELL in the summer.
My friend took me here and it's a pretty cool vibe. Very relaxed and the bartenders are awesome. They have very unique cocktails and the three that we tried were delicious. The prices were good for the quality cocktails. The only downside was it was packed and it was hard to converse because it was so loud. I really had to be close to my friend to hear what she was saying. Anyways it's a nice casual bar to visit

RiNo Yacht Club’s Mary Allison Wright Would Happily Drink Miller High Life for the Rest of Her Life
words: Laura Scholz
With her warm personality and unbridled energy, Mary Allison Wright is as natural and engaging as the wines she champions. The former music promoter, who once toured with Phish just for fun, founded Denver’s RiNo Yacht Club with her husband, McClain Hedges, in 2012. The bar was named one of the country’s “15 Most Important Natural Wine Bars” in 2018.
Wright took time out from planning that move, her work as wine curator for The Proper Pour, and her role as beverage director for French-inspired Morin restaurant, to tell VinePair which wine changed the course of her career, and why she would drink Miller High Life forever.
1. What’s the bottle that made you fall in love with wine? Lapierre Morgon! Mathieu [Lapierre] was in Atlanta pouring the new 2009 vintage at Holeman & Finch Public House, and to say it blew my socks off might be an understatement. At this point in my life, I was still in the music industry but obsessed with the burgeoning craft cocktail movement and was what I might describe as “wine-curious,” meaning I was super interested in learning more, and this wine rocked my world.
2. FMK three varieties: Cabernet, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay. F*ck Chardonnay , marry Pinot Noir, kill Cabernet.
3. You’re on death row. What’s your last-supper wine? Birth-year Chenin Blanc , then a bottle of Valdespino Inocente with a swirly straw in it to take it straight to the dome.
4. You can only drink one wine for the rest of your life. What is it? Hmmm… maybe Lapierre Morgon because I like bringing things full circle.
5. You can only drink at one bar for the rest of your life. What is it? EASY. Robert’s Western World in Nashville, Tenn. Find me at the bar eating a $5 “Recession Special” (fried bologna sandwich plus a Miller High Life).
6. What’s the best and worst wine on your rack (or in your fridge) right now? The worst? In my fridge is a half-drunk bottle of weed rosé that is probably past its prime and a bit skunky. Best is a 2016 Keller Riesling von der Fels.
7. If you could no longer drink wine, what would be your beverage of choice? The other wine, Miller High Life. ( Champagne of Beers , duh.)
