Christina O yacht modelChristina O is p erhaps the most written about yacht in history. The legendary ship has witnessed some of the most iconic events over the last century, from serving in World War II at the D-Day Landings to hosting the world’s most influential people during Onassis’ glorious years. The eminent superyacht Christina O was humbly built in 1943 by Canadian Vickers as a Canadian anti-submarine frigate called HMCS Stormont. She participated in the Battle of the Atlantic and also at the Normandy landings. Then, in 1954, Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis bought her as war surplus for a mere $34,000. He spent $4 million on the refurbishment. He n amed her after his daughter. He entertained the world’s elite on board, from Maria Callas and Grace Kelly, to Jack and Jackie Kennedy. Upon Onassis' death, his daughter donated the yacht to the Greek government. She then renamed Argo and served as presidential yacht. Argo was purchased in 1998 by Greek shipping magnate John Paul Papanicolaou. He spent $50 million to retrofit the her, and restored the name in memory of his departed friend, Christina. After a complete refit in 2015, and various improvements in 2017, Christina O features the coupling of unique style and modern comfort. Christina O has a master suite, eighteen passenger staterooms. She can accommodate 34 guests and a crew of 39. The number of living areas is large, and the amount of outdoor deck space is very generous. The aft main deck has an outdoor pool with a minotaur-themed mosaic floor that rises at the push of a button to become a dance floor. The stools in Ari’s Bar retain the original leather upholstery crafted from a very soft, fine leather made from the foreskins of whales. The fifth season of hit Netflix TV show The Crown will see a fleet of superyachts appear on screen, with Christina O the latest to join the cast alongside 73-meter Titania and former Royal Yacht Britannia . We build this primarily wood model of the Christina O at the following sizes: 27" long x 11" T x 4.5" W $3,790 Shipping and insurance in the contiguous USA included. Other places: $300. 34" long x 13" T x 6" W $5,935 Shipping and insurance in the contiguous USA included. Other places: $400. The superyacht Christina O did not start her life on the seas as a playground for the rich and famous. Constructed in 1943 by Montreal-based shipbuilder Canadian Vickers, the 99m Canadian frigate - originally called HMCS Stormont - was first used to serve in the Second World War and was present at the D-Day landings in Normandy in 1944. Yacht buying guide: all you need to know when purchasing a superyacht Review: Lamborghini takes to the seas Acquired in 1954 by Aristotle Onassis, it was the Greek billionaire shipping magnate that transformed the Stormont into one of the world’s most luxurious superyachts . Renamed after his daughter, Onassis spent $4m on the refurbishment of a ship that would become an elite and exclusive entertainment destination. From John Fitzgerald Kennedy and Winston Churchill to Marilyn Monroe and Jackie Kennedy, who Onassis later married, Christina O hosted some of the world’s most influential people during her glory years. The wedding reception of Monaco’s Prince Rainier and Grace Kelly was also held on board, while legendary Hollywood couple Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor were regular guests. Today the Christina O can be hired for corporate events and be chartered for private use. Charter prices start from €560,000 (£492,900) a week in low season to €630,000 (£554,700) a week in high season. See morleyyachts.com ‘Greatest yacht of them all’After a number of refits, the ship has been meticulously restored. It can sleep up to 34 guests who can enjoy the same luxury experienced by the famous visitors of yesteryear. Designed to the highest standard, Onassis’s “unique taste is everywhere”, says Boat International magazine. Christina O is regarded by many as the “greatest yacht of them all”. Swimming poolOne of the highlights aboard the superyacht is the beautiful swimming pool. Designed with a tiled bull mosaic, the pool can turn into a dance floor at the flip of a switch. Jacuzzi deckRelaxation is the top activity on the Christina O. As well as the Jacuzzi deck (pictured) the ship also has an indoor air-conditioned gym and a spa which offers beauty treatments and massages. Callas LoungeThe surroundings inside the yacht are as plush as the exteriors. The Callas Lounge (pictured) is named after the American-born Greek soprano Maria Callas. Regarded as one of the influential opera singers of the 20th century, it’s said that her “opera notes still play in the Callas Lounge”. Ari’s BarThe legendary Ari’s Bar is christened in tribute to Aristotle Onassis himself as “this was one of his favourite places in which to enjoy a drink”, says Yacht Charter Fleet . Ranked 56 in the Top 100 Largest Yachts in the World list, Christina O is the “epitome of elegance and luxury”, says Superyachts.com . “Its capacious deck can host up to 250 guests beneath extensive canopies, perfect for a special occasion or one-off corporate incentive.” Other amenities include the Galaxy Bar on the Compass deck and the large Jacuzzi on the Promenade deck. Onassis’ SuiteThe expansive and luxurious Onassis Suite is situated on the bridge deck and holds a spacious bathroom with Jacuzzi tub and a private en-suite lounge, says Superyachts.com . Spiral staircaseChristina O’s elegant marble-railed spiral staircase covers three decks and at the bottom is the floor depicting Onassis’ Omega emblem. Christina O: Onassis was a visionary. As one of the great businessmen of his time, Onassis chose not to build a new yacht in one of his northern European shipyards, but he chose to transform a ship that already had character and charm. That character and charm is even more evident today after multiple refits and improvements. There are many ways to enjoy Christina O . She was designed as an impressive yet cosy venue for the world’s most influential people to be entertained. Heads of state and business leaders were invited to socialise with the most beautiful and talented musicians – relationships were forged and developed for the mutual benefit of all. It is a remarkable opportunity to be able to charter this yacht today for similar entertaining, and benefit from her charm without the cost of ownership. There are still very few yachts that can accommodate more than 12 Guests, and Christina O is one of them. Not only does she have 17 cabins , but she can also cruise close to shore with up to 157 Guests on board. She is perfect for birthday parties , weddings , anniversaries , and corporate entertaining . The yacht has a remarkable selection of toys and watersports equipment , so for a charter that is all about fun with family and friends Christina O can compete with the modern large yachts in terms of inventory, while offering something extra in terms of deck space and style. The yacht’s Head Chef produces Michelin Star standard cuisine, assisted by the Pastry Chef to create fabulous desserts . There is also a Sous Chef that is a Sushi Master and expert in Asian and Japanese cuisine. If wine is something you want to enjoy, there is a wine expert available as part of the Christina O team. You will find the yacht offers flexibility and enthusiasm for any project you may wish to consider. With the cost of running a yacht like this with 38 crew , charter represents fantastic value. THE LAST WORD IN OPULENCE As once described by the king of Egypt, CHRISTINA O is perhaps the most written about yacht in history. This legendary vessel has witnessed some of the most iconic events over the last century, from serving in World War II at the D-Day Landings to hosting the world’s most influential people during Onassis’ glorious years. Today available for charter, she remains the perfect setting for world-class entertaining, offering a unique opportunity to cruise in style and comfort. GLAMOUR & ROMANCE In 1954, Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis acquired for scrap value a Canadian frigate that had seen action in Normandy during World War II . Even in today’s world, her 325 feet in length turn heads, so imagine the astonishment 60 years ago when he decided to rebuild and renovate her, turning her into one of the world’s most famous superyachts. Christina, christened in honour of his daughter, or CHRISTINA O as she is known today, wined and dined world leaders, Hollywood elite and numerous other dignitaries for nearly two decades under his ownership. Winston Churchill , John Fitzgerald Kennedy , ballerina Margot Fonteyn , John Wayne , Maria Callas and Marilyn Monroe were all guests on the yacht over the years. Upon Onassis’ death in 1975, CHRISTINA O passed to the Greek government, for use as a presidential yacht. Unfortunately, the government could not keep up with the maintenance costs for very long. CHRISTINA O deteriorated for years, until the late 1990s, when a team stepped in to rescue her. Today, after many refits and continuous improvements, you can walk on the same decks and in the same rooms, meticulously restored, as Richard Burton and Elisabeth Taylor as well as all those other famous guests. You can relax in one of the Hollywood couple’s favorite places, in front of the lapis lazuli-fronted fireplace, in the main deck’s Lapis Lounge, while Maria Callas’ opera notes still play in the Callas Lounge . The master suite is spacious, with a sitting room and library. 10 main deck cabins extend from amidships, where they are larger due to the beam. The two cabins in the bow are smaller and are the only ones that don’t convert double to twin. The 6 cabins on the lower deck aft are also wider amidships, and gradually smaller as you go aft. They convert from double to twin, and have the same kind of amenities and bathrooms. Operations Manager Florin Belciug has worked on Christina O for 13 years and has come to regard the yacht as home. He started his maritime career on cruise ships, working for Cunard, Seaborne and the Seven Seas before joining Christina O in 2007. ‘Stepping onto Christina O was so different from what I had done before. I loved it from my first day on board and it has become my home and my family. I don’t ever see my life without Christina O.’ The 99.13m Christina O has a unique history like no other yacht in existence. Originally built in 1943 as a frigate by Canadian Vickers, this former war ship was subsequently converted into one of the world’s most iconic superyachts under the discerning eye of Greek shipping tycoon Aristotle Onassis. Spotting her potential as a fabulous craft for entertaining a veritable Who’s Who from the worlds of business, entertainment and politics, Onassis oversaw an ambitious renovation in the early 1950s, transforming her into a sleek classic which easily stands the test of time against the very best 21 st century superyachts. Among her most jaw-dropping assets are the inimitable Ari’s Bar - which remains almost entirely as it was created 70 years ago - and the mosaic swimming pool whose base can be raised hydraulically to create a dance floor. Further small modifications were also made in 2019. Another outstanding feature setting her apart from other yachts for charter is the sheer amount of deck space available. Four open decks offer ample space for hosting an incredible 157 partygoers for cocktails or day trips, while clever layout and design also allows for more intimate settings for just a handful of guests. It’s no surprise to learn that the type of charter guest attracted to Christina O is more impressed by her provenance and pedigree than merely deluxe mod cons. People want to experience her history, charm and unique sense of style. With beautifully appointed accommodation for 36 guests - far more than an average yacht can offer – Christina O is also popular with large families who appreciate the abundance of space on board. As operations manager, a position which amazingly is not de rigueur on every superyacht, Florin is the first point of contact between guests, captain and crew and his planning starts from the moment a charter contract is signed. ‘From that point on, the guests are in my hands,’ he explains. ‘I’m in touch with them to organize the trip, create an itinerary, and make plans on board and ashore. ‘I communicate the clients’ needs to the officers, broker, captain and engineer as well as looking after onboard operations including the interior team and service. I also discuss menus with the chef, and study weather reports to decide where and when we will pull up the anchor and drop anchor. ‘I love setting the daily schedule the night before. You wake up and try to follow it, but you also have to adapt and improvise according to the guests’ requests and desires. I’m in touch 100% of the time from start to finish to create the perfect trip for them and their family.’ Naturally, the job involves patience, discretion and the ability to anticipate what guests want, which Florin prides himself on getting right. ‘Clients are usually well organized but when they come on holiday, they switch their minds off and just want to relax,’ he says. ‘I have to read this and interpret what they want. Things can change by the hour and that is challenging but I love this part of the job. I’ve never enjoyed routine; I prefer every day to be different.’ In the past 13 years, Florin has worked with a number of excellent captains on board and Christina O’s new captain is no exception. ‘We are very happy to have him with us. He is charming, positive, hands on and has a very nice personality. I think he will be the perfect captain for us.’ With her unique history, Christina O enjoys a level of loyalty among her charter guests that few yachts can boast. Once owned by Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis, Winston Churchill enjoyed nine cruises while Grace Kelly and Jackie Kennedy both held their wedding receptions on board. ‘I would say that 50% of her appeal is the history and 50% is the amazing crew, who have impeccable backgrounds in hospitality and make each trip really special,’ adds Florin with pride. ‘She has a classic history and charisma that most boats just don’t have, and many charter clients choose her for this reason. They are impressed from the moment they step on board.’ So what can you expect from a stay on Christina O? With a little black book of contacts to rival that of any A lister, Florin is adept at organizing a trip which encompasses the highest levels of gastronomy, adventure and romance, whether it’s an intimate barbecue on a deserted beach or dinner for 20 at one of the world’s best restaurants. ‘I have all the contacts wherever we go,’ says Florin. ‘I’m in touch with ship agents based around the itinerary and that rapport starts three or four months before the charter begins. ‘If you tell me you want to go to an area of Italy, I can consult my files, refresh my memory and within 15 minutes, I can tell you the best spot for a night picnic with a fire camp, the perfect bay for swimming or a wonderful restaurant for supper. ‘I am in control of every operation aside from safety and navigation. My role is to be there for the guests and keep in touch with the captain on every need. I liaise with the heads of every department from housekeeping to the bartender - it’s a team effort and the charter cannot be a success without all the crew involved.’ Themed experiences on board include Champagne receptions, formal black and white parties, casino nights with roulette and blackjack tables and Michelin standard taster menus created by Christina O’s executive chef Damian Perrinel. ‘We might start the evening with a Champagne reception and there will be a contest to see who wins the most chips at the casino before guests are invited to sit down for dinner,’ says Florin. ‘We have a long table which seats 28, and Damian, who has worked at several Michelin-starred French restaurants, will present a seven course degustation menu. ‘After dinner, we will offer drinks and petit fours in Ari’s Bar and perhaps guests will head up to the top deck afterwards to dance to a DJ set or a live band. We often lay out an al fresco breakfast the following day on the deck with a continental buffet as well as a la carte choices like eggs Benedict and eggs Florentine. ‘Lunch can be a casual barbecue and buffet on the deck. Guests also love to take some downtime and enjoy a treatment or relaxation session in the spa, where we have two therapists.’ Christina O will cruise the Tyrrhenian sea in July, navigate from Italy to Turkey during August and head towards Greece in the beginning of September. She is fully available in May and June and has still some availability for the first 2 weeks of July and last week of July and starting from the 12th September 2022. Images: Stef Bravin EXPEDITION SUPERYACHT CHRISTINA O THE EPITOME OF OPULENCE Originally commissioned as a Canadian frigate during World War Two, Christina O found new life in 1954 when purchased by Greek shipping tycoon Aristotle Onassis. SIMILAR YACHTSCONTACT EYOS TO BEGIN PLANNING YOUR YACHT CHARTER +1 801 390 7025 | [email protected] Where can we guide you?Christina OView all 8 photos Starting life in World War Two as a Canadian frigate, Christina O was purchased in 1954 by Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis, who transformed her into the most luxurious private yacht of her time. She went on to host a wealth of illustrious guests, ranging from Marilyn Monroe and Frank Sinatra to John F Kennedy and Winston Churchill. Onassis epitomised the life of the superyacht elite, garnering a reputation as the original jetsetter, but following his death in 1975, Christina O fell into disrepair. Luckily, a meticulous restoration project led by a family friend of Onassis was completed in 2001 and, today, charterers can enjoy the resonance of her unique past with the ultimate in luxurious accommodation and on-board service. Styled in the early fifties by Caesar Pinnau, the exterior of Christina O easily stands out among other superyachts on today’s charter market thanks to her distinctive clipper bow, long sheer line, rounded superstructure and dazzling white topsides, and this is not forgetting her trademark, vibrant yellow funnel. A variety of vast open-air spaces across Christina O offer a multitude of options for lounging and socialising. The top level of the yacht, known as the compass deck, is well-primed for sunning, with a line of chaise loungers and a bar, while the spacious promenade deck below features an aft spa pool, and alfresco dining and bar setup. Most impressive is the main deck, where Onassis’ swimming pool has been faithfully restored with its renowned Minoan bull and vaulter mosaic. What’s more, the bottom of the pool can be raised to form a dance floor. Christina O’s expansive interior was completely gutted during her most recent refit, with notable artefacts salvaged and sensitively restored. Aftermost on the main deck is the Lapis Lounge, named after its original lapis fireplace, which remains in place, and decorated in the style of an English country manor house. The main deck is also home to a dining salon with a 24-seater table, and the Aris Bar, which boasts its original rope-covered bar, whale fang bar handles and whale-skin bar stools. A majestic atrium with a striking mosaic of the Onassis omega logo then allows guests to access the two further salons on the promenade deck above via a spiral staircase. Known as the Onassis Suite, the yacht’s master stateroom stretches across the forward section of the bridge deck and comprises three rooms: large sleeping quarters, a white Penteli marble bathroom and a book-lined study. The latter is oak-panelled and boasts the original onyx fireplace, while the bedroom is illuminated by authentic Baccarat crystal wall lights, adding to its elegance. CHRISTINA O, YACHT FOR CHARTERINQUIRE ABOUT CHRISTINA O‘Christina O’ is a historically renowned superyacht, purchased in 1954 by Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis, before being transformed into the most luxurious private yacht of her time. The vessel went on to host a wealth of prestigious guests, including Marilyn Monroe and Winston Churchill. There are many notable features of Christina O, and she boasts 16 staterooms including the famous ‘Onassis Suite’. A bronze-edged swimming pool transforms into a dance floor, so from swimming to salsa, you’ll be able to make the best use of space whatever the occasion. A luxurious six senses spa is perfect for winding down, and an elegant piano lounge and bar sets the scene for a truly glamorous afternoon or evening party. A Michelin-starred chef ensures you’ll enjoy the finest cuisine while on board, and a children’s playroom adds to the credentials that make this a first class choice among families. Onassis epitomizes the life of the ‘superyacht elite’, and is the perfect choice if you wish to relive a little of the classic fifties. The yacht’s design is very functional for today’s modern requirements, and the open spaces provide a great opportunity for open air dining, while the spacious promenade deck below provides the perfect place to enjoy relaxation in an aft spa pool. A stunning, and rather majestic atrium with a striking mosaic of the Onassis omega logo, allows guests to access the two further salons on the promenade deck – via a spiral staircase of course! The Onassis Suite is the yacht’s master stateroom, and this stretches across the forward section of the bridge deck and comprises three rooms: large sleeping quarters, a white Penteli marble bathroom and a book-lined study. You’ll also find 10 double staterooms on the main deck forward and eight convertible cabins on the lower deck. Christina O is easily one of the most iconic, legendary superyachts available for charter, and is the epitome of luxury, style and glamour. Now fully modernized, Christina O has a great Wi-Fi connection, so you can check emails or update social media. Air conditioning keeps conditions comfortable throughout the cabins, even on the warmest of days. You can also work out using the latest exercise equipment in the on board gym.
