Testimonials

Did the 3 days 2 nights sailing trip with Liberty. Our small group of 5 went with Liberty Sailing because the big sailing company on Caye Caulker was booked out. And I am so glad we did!

Naturally, you are going to be on a much smaller sailing boat, not a big catamaran. But I think there are more advantages to that than downsides. We went snorkeling, hunting lobster for dinner, and camped on two small islands, one picture-perfect postcard Caribbean island, and one 'real' island, struck by the hurricane a couple of years ago with only one fisherman living on it. What an experience!

Would recommend booking this trip.

We 3 girls had an amazing time on the three-day sailing tour with Dylan and Rob. We were treated like queens with breakfast, lunch, and dinner freshly caught from the ocean! They knew the sea like the back of their hand so it was great to snorkel with them as well. We Stayed the night on two amazing Cayes where they set up our tents. Overall amazing experience, we recommend

Exclusive All-in-1

  • 2 snorkel stops (Hol Chan & Shark Ray Alley) Snorkel gear is included.
  • Belizean Buffet
  • Sunset cruise
  • Description
  • Semi-private
  • Private Tour

The All-in-1 is a "best of tour" that includes the most requested by our guests - an Exclusive tour only with Catamaran Belize! We depart later to let you sleep in, avoid the crowds, and see the sunset at the end of the tour. We start with snorkeling at Hol Chan and Shark Ray Alley. Hol Chan has the largest variety of species to be seen in the area and is often compared to an aquarium, while at Shark Ray Alley you get to experience a close encounter with nurse-sharks and stingrays. Watch from the boat or swim with them! We then serve our famous Belizean buffet lunch on-board. Traditional dishes like stewed chicken and rice and beans with our Captain’s secret recipe BBQ fish! After lunch, we stop at the neighbor island Caye Caulker for approx. 1 hour of free time to explore the island, followed by a relaxed sunset cruise back to San Pedro, with ceviche served. Open bar with local rum, vodka, gin, soft drinks and juices is included. Try the specials, rum punch and "panty rippers"! Read more about the sites we visit, Hol Chan, Shark Ray Alley and Caye Caulker under the DETAILS tab.

***PLEASE NOTICE. Being on a set route with an itinerary to fulfil we always must use the engine, with different potential depending on the timing and if we can also use sail-power. We don’t always use the sail, depending on the route, the wind conditions and various other factors. ** Using only sail and no engine, we’d just be able to go in one direction according to the wind and if we have the wind against us, this often will force us to go in zig-zag. This is not possible inside of the barrier reef due to restricted space, shallow waters, rocks and other obstacles (all our day tours and charters with no exceptions are made inside of the barrier reef) and regardless of the wind direction, using only sail of course also makes it impossible to assure guarantee and control the speed the way you can with engine use.. This of course causes a delay of the activities, or better said, we wouldn’t have enough time for the activities and couldn’t guarantee an itinerary within a time-frame – it is very important to let us know in advance if you want to be sailing without engine power since this restricts the itinerary significantly, but is not impossible for part of the charter knowing this request in advance. * We only use the main sail on the tours. The jib sail is not opened for several reasons: more than anything it is a safety prevention, since wind gusts can make the lines move and hit somebody and the sail can be experienced as being “in the way” of guests being seated comfortably. Especially when mixing alcohol into the picture we always take our guests safety first and that is an important reason why the main sail is the one being used.

BELIZEAN BUFFET

  • BBQ fish (comes with veggies and our Captain's secret sauce)
  • stewed chicken
  • rice & beans
  • flour tortillas
  • "pico de gallo" (tomato, onion, cilantro and chili in lime juice)
  • fried sweet plantain

FRESH CEVICHE

Our ceviche is prepared fresh on-board just before serving. It contains fish, shrimp/conch (seasonal), onions, sweet peppers, tomatoes and coriander marinated in lime juice and a mix of spices. This is served with locally made tortilla chips.

  • Panty Rippers (based on coconut rum and pineapple juice)
  • Local rum (dark, white and coconut)*
  • Local vodka*
  • Soft drinks: Coca Cola, Coca Cola Light, Sprite, Fanta (orange, fruit punch, ginger, grapefruit, tonic and soda water).
  • Juices: Orange, pineapple, lime and fruit punch.

...

Hol Chan is Mayan for "little channel" and is a natural break in the reef, which has always been a very productive fishing area with abundant marine life. It is open to the sea beyond the reef, so allows marine creatures to travel from the outside of the reef to the inside and vice versa. It became the first marine reserve in the entire country of Belize back in 1987 and this have led to the species to re-generate and the corals of growing unharmed. This snorkeling area has the greatest variety of marine life and coral, compared to being an "underwater zoo" - you have the chance to see all kinds of corals, fishes and even sea turtles! Over 160 species of fish and forty types of coral have been recorded in the area.

...

SHARK RAY ALLEY

The story behind Shark Ray Alley is that in all times, due to its position close to the channel to go outside the protecting barrier reef for fishing, it was the point where the local fishermen came in with their catch and started cleaning it - throwing the head, etc into the water. This converted it a natural habit for the marine life such as nurse sharks and sting-rays that associate the sound of an engine to food. The water is shallow and transparent and you will see the nurse-sharks and sting-rays on the surface, meaning that even if you don't get in to the water you can enjoy it from the boat as well! The stop here normally doesn't exceed the 20 minutes, since the nurse-sharks and sting-rays eventually swim away.

...

CAYE CAULKER

Caye Caulker is the island closest to Ambergris Caye, the locals call it their "sister island". This is just how you imagine an authentic Caribbean island to be and a nice contrast to the more developed Ambergris Caye. Caye Caulker was uninhabited until the middle of the nineteenth century, when a small number of the refugees fleeing civil war on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula ended up there, started planting coconuts and developed a profitable fishing industry. Since the 1960's tourism has slowly grown on the island, but it has still kept its quite laid-back atmosphere, with the motto "Go Slow". The island is about 5 miles long but the town is just about 1 mile long and 1/2 to 1 mile wide. The "road" around Caye Caulker is only made of sand and is lined with swaying palm trees, souvenir shops and local jewellery shops. A high-light to visit is the famous "Split" and the bar Lazy Lizard, the most popular place both for locals and visitors to hang out for a drink and a swim. The Split started off as a channel which was widened by Hurricane Hattie in 1961, but back then it was actually just about a foot or so deep. The islanders then dug by hand to widen the channel to allow small boats to pass through. Over the years tidal forces took over and created the 65 feet (aprox. 20 meters) channel that is now today's Split. Top of page

We specialize on custom-made Private Charters! You will have the catamaran only for you and all the attention on you. Making the tour private opens up to a lot more possibilities. We can do a plain Private All-in-1 or we can also change the itinerary and/or add on more activities! If you don't really want to visit Caye Caulker we can take you to a desert beach instead. If you add on more hours, we can do more snorkeling as well, or also fishing (groups of maximum 8 people). We don't use flat fees, the private charter rates depends on group size and charter length. Semi-private Exclusive All-in-1

  • The semi-private Exclusive All-in-1 has a minimum of only 4 guests to confirm the tour and no more than 8 guests maximum on-board. Benefits are more comfort and space on the catamaran, personalized service and attention.
  • The itinerary is the same as the regular All-in-1, but with our *Premium* Belizean buffet: Our captain's BBQ fish with veggies and secret sauce and our chef's home-made stewed chicken, rice and beans, flour tortillas, coleslaw, pico de gallo and fried sweet plantain. *Premium* - the buffet on our semi-private tours also include corn on the cob and your choice of 2 skewers: shrimp, beef or mushroom

“Really had a good time with NautiTime Tours! Appreciated their honesty about us not being able to see manatees this time of year (water too chilly for them). Several other shops “promised” we would so we went with NautiTime due to their honesty and glad we did. We had a blast! Sharks, stingrays, tarpon, green morays and seahorses. I’m kind of a SCUBA snob, so really wasn’t too amped up about a snorkeling trip, but it was well worth it. Get off the pier at Caulker, turn right and you can almost hit their shop with a rock. Good guys, good times! Thanks Randy!!!”

“We booked a 3 hour tour that lasted 4 hours and it was amazing. Our guide was fantastic. Not only a very nice and funny guy, but also very well informed. He made us feel completely safe swimming between the nurse sharks and stingrays. He took us to a murene ale and sea horses. It was breathtaking. I highly recommend them to everyone and every age.”

Caye Caulker Boat Tour – What To Expect

Belize

Caye Caulker in Belize is a paradise island with a motto of “Go Slow”. It turned out, on this boat trip, we’d be lucky to be moving at all!

I travelled to the Belizean island of Caye Caulker by water taxi from Belize City. Many people said this would be one of the highlights of my entire tour down Central America! It’s a paradise island, next-door to the island Madonna sang about in La Isla Bonita. Shack-like brightly coloured homes and weatherboard hotels line the 3 main streets, some on stilts waiting for storms to set in. Fishermen returned with their catches as we disembarked the boat. Life on Caye Caulker seemed relaxed and tranquil, and I could see why the island’s motto was ‘Go Slow’.

So, nothing prepared us for what happened next.

Ten minutes later, all 11 of us, were back cowering in the cabin area, sipping rum punch. I wondered when the Bee Gees ‘Stayin’ Alive’ would come over the speakers. We dropped the anchor, huddled together and prayed this would be one of those stories we lived to tell. Pelting rain, a rocking boat, a captain who looked like he would rather jump in, and 11 slightly tipsy tourists. Visibility dropped to 2 metres, and everything looked bleak.

Enjoyed this post? Why not pin it…

  • Discover the remains of a once thriving Mayan city at the Lamanai Archaeological Site, reached by a boat trip that reveals some of Belize’s most colourful birdlife.
  • Take a day trip to the impressive Tikal National Park, just a hop, skip and a jump across the border into Guatemala. These Maya ruins have become one of the most important archaeological sites in Maya history.
  • Uncover the secrets of crystallised skeletons and crumbling palaces near San Ignacio that have been preserved in their natural glory.
  • By travelling on this trip, you’ll directly support our Intrepid Foundation partner, Eden Reforestation Projects. Donations help them provide local employment opportunities and tackle climate change one tree at a time as they restore forests across 10 different countries.
  • In tropical Central America, it can get really hot and humid. Carry plenty of water as hydration is key, especially when you’re walking around a lot.

Welcome to Belize! Your adventure begins in Belize City – located where the Belize River meets the Caribbean Sea, this bustling former capital is full of history and culture. You’ll have a welcome meeting at 6 pm tonight, where you'll meet your trip leader and fellow travellers. If you arrive with time to spare, Belize City has plenty to discover. The coastal and maritime museum is on the north side, housed in the beautifully restored former fire station. Also in the north is the Image Factory, displaying contemporary Belizean artists, the National Handicraft Centre and the oldest Anglican church in Central America – St John Cathedral, built in 1812. Tonight, why not head out on a group welcome dinner, recommended by your leader?

  • Hotel (1 night)

There are no meals included on this day.

It’s very important that you attend the welcome meeting as we will be collecting insurance details and next of kin information at this time. If you are going to be late, please let your travel agent or hotel reception know. Ask reception or look for a note in the lobby for more information on where the meeting will take place. While Belize City is the best jumping-off point, like any big city, there are some issues with street crime. We advise visitors to take every precaution outside the hotel by sticking to the main streets, leaving valuables at the hotel, and taking taxis to get around.

This morning, you’ll take a private vehicle to Carmelita, then hop on a boat towards the Lamanai Archaeological site. The boat ride is an adventure in itself, and your leader will help you spot all the colourful birds along the river. Arrive at the archaeological site and take some time to explore the remains of the ancient Mayan civilisation and its unearthed temples. After, head back up the river by boat to the town of Orange Walk, where you’ll spend the night. Tonight, settle into your lodge and enjoy an included group dinner.

  • Lodge (1 night)
  • Lamanai Archaeological Site & Boat Tour

This morning, drive to the San Ignacio area, stopping along the way at the San Antonio Women’s Co-op – an organisation formed by local Mayan women as a way to share skills and traditional knowledge while earning an income. Join the local women for a cooking demonstration designed to preserve their culinary heritage, then sit down together for lunch. The rest of the afternoon is yours to spend as you please.

  • San Ignacio - Cooking Class

Today’s total travel time is approximately 2.5 hours.

Today, you’ll take a day trip to the UNESCO site and Mayan ruins in Tikal National Park – located just across the border in Guatemala. Among the thick, evergreen jungle are some of the most significant remnants of the ancient Maya civilisation – plus an array of local wildlife, including coatis and howler monkeys. Take in the towering limestone temples and other monuments while pondering the mystery of the ancient city's demise. After, enjoy an included group lunch and then make your way back to San Ignacio. Tonight is free to relax at your accommodation or explore at your own pace.

  • Tikal National Park - Archaeological site (Entrance fee, Guide & Transport)

Today’s total travel time is approximately 4 hours.

Today is yours to take on any of the many optional activities available in San Ignacio. Maybe take a day trip to Xunantunich – an impressive Mayan ceremonial centre with panoramic views over the countryside. The east side of one of the temples has a unique moulded wall surface, and the central plaza has three carved stelae (stone slabs). Getting to the site is half the fun as you'll need to take a hand-cranked ferry to cross the river. Maybe head to the caves of Actun Tunichil Muknal – a living museum of Maya relics. Wade through the water until you reach the ceremonial site, where you’ll find ceramic pots and crystallised skeletons preserved by the natural processes of the cave for over 1400 years. If Maya ruins aren’t your thing, consider a trip to the Mountain Pine Ridge area to visit waterfalls and warm swimming holes, check out the butterfly garden, or canoe down the Barton Creek cave reserve.

  • San Ignacio - Xunantunich Ruins entry - BZD11
  • San Ignacio - Barton Creek canoe trip - BZD200
  • San Ignacio - Actun Tunichil Muknal Caves (Incl. entry, guide, transport & lunch) - BZD263
  • San Ignacio - Caracol Ruins (Incl. entry, guide & transport) - BZD263
  • San Ignacio - Mountain Pine Ridge day trip (Incl. guide & transport) - BZD200
  • San Ignacio - Cave tubing (incl. entrance, guide & transport) - BZD200

Today, take a private transfer to Belize City, where you’ll board a water taxi to the island of Caye Caulker. While there are a number of islands off the coast of the mainland, Caye Caulker is certainly the most famous (and arguably the most beautiful). Once you’ve arrived on Caye Caulker, join your leader on an orientation walk to get to know this tiny and laidback island. You’ll notice no cars here, making it a real pleasure to explore. If you fancy, it’s possible to arrange day trips to the other islands or to some spectacular reefs for snorkelling – just chat with your leader about your options. Each island has its own character, but they all have the unmistakable Caribbean pace and charm. This evening, why not get your hands on some freshly caught seafood, often served in causal and colourful restaurants, to a soundtrack of reggae music.

  • Caye Caulker - Leader-led orientation walk
  • Caye Caulker - Stand-up paddleboard hire (per hour) - BZD44

Today’s total travel time is approximately 3 hours.

Your time in Caye Caulker is about taking it easy, so do as much (or as little) as you want with another free day here. If you're interested in sampling some local cuisine, Belize is famous for its barbequed food and some of the best meals are cooked on the roadside! Caye Caulker is also famous for its lobster – not the cheapest meal, but so (so) good. Always make sure that you respect the season – the lobsters can only be caught between June and February. If you’re out of season, how about some grilled shrimp and a lovely rum and coke made with the local firewater?

  • Caye Caulker - Bicycle Rental (per day) - USD8
  • Caye Caulker - Sunset Sailing - BZD126
  • Caye Caulker - Full day Catamaran snorkeling tour in Hol Chan Marine Reserve-(gear, guide and transport included) - BZD242
  • Caye Caulker - Full day speed boat-(gear, guide and transport included) - BZD242

There are no activities planned today, and you can depart the accommodation at any time following checkout. If you would like to spend more time in Caye Caulker, just speak to your booking agent.

An open-dated round-trip water taxi ticket is included on your trip. To take the water taxi from the Caye Caulker city port back to Belize City, you will need to arrive at the ferry terminal 1 hour before departure. You must make your own way from your Caye Caulker hotel to the ferry port. Your hotel can provide the ferry schedule. Please get in touch with your booking agent should you require transfers or additional accommodation.

1 breakfast, 2 lunches, 1 dinner

Private vehicle, Ferry, River boat

Hotel (6 nights), Lodge (1 night)

If you’re planning a trip to Belize, experiencing the wonders of Caye Caulker Marine Reserve should be at the top of your list. Last weekend, I enjoyed embarking on a half-day Belize snorkeling tour of this stunning marine reserve with Caye Caulker Reef Friendly Tours. The adventure kicked off at 1:30 PM, and from the start, we were in for an extraordinary afternoon.

Exploring the South Channel, Caye Caulker: Crystal Clear Waters

Our guide, Amado, enthusiastically welcomed us, sharing his vast knowledge of the local marine ecosystem. The Caye Caulker Marine Reserve is renowned for its vibrant coral reefs and abundant marine life, making it a must-see destination for anyone visiting Belize. Our first stop, the South Channel, offered crystal-clear waters where we could see the underwater world even before we dipped in. As we snorkeled through the coral gardens, we were greeted by schools of colorful tropical fish, giving us an up-close look at Belize’s stunning biodiversity.

Swimming with Nurse Sharks at Shark Ray Alley

The next part of the tour took us to the famous Shark Ray Alley at Caye Caulker. Swimming alongside gentle nurse sharks and stingrays was exhilarating yet peaceful. These majestic creatures are familiar with humans, and encountering them in their natural habitat was a true highlight. This stop is a favorite among those visiting Belize’s Great Barrier Reef, as it offers a thrilling yet safe way to witness marine life up close.
