this must be one of the newest Searunner 40's out there. She was originally build as 'Sergeant Lewis' (the old building website ) in and I bought her from the 2nd owner in 2013 in BC/Canada. I upgraded and coastal cruised her for 2 1/2 years in before sailing her all the way down to Panama where she is now for due to a changed situation. Upgrades done over the last couple of years include: - 2014 Building a hard and soft top combo that can seal of the completely for sailing in cold or wet weather while being able take out all windows for ventilation & sunshade in the tropics (see pictures) - 2015 Stripping mast to bare to check condition and sealing it with 3 coats of west system + several layers of AWL Grip paint - 2015 New active radar reflector including detection alarm (ECHOMAX X+S) - 2015 Fitting new Cape Horn to stern, engaging right to the rudder quadrant - 2015 2 New anchors 1 x 85 lbs M1 + 1x 70 lbs JAMBO - 2016 New Standart Horizon incl. GPS/DSC/AIS receiver/FOG Signal hailer - 2017 New charge controller + 2 new 120 W - 2018 New topside and side deck paint (incl. nonskid) applied by shipyard (2 part polyurethane) - 2018 New Raymarine Evolution Autopilot incl. typ 2 linear drive at quadrant (very silent and consumption) , old Raymarine wheel pilot used before still wired in as a back up if needed - 2019 New DOMETIC CFX 40W fridge/freezer box - 2019 New 40 m galvanized HT chain (not yet been in the water) Sail inventory: Main and Genoa where the only 2 sails used by the previous owners. When I got the boat the other sails where still originally packed by the sail maker and never used. Headsails are all hank on with downhauls from the cockpit. Main Sail in good condition (without tears or holes) but well used and I would replace it before an Light 180 % Genoa (same as above) Staysail (good condition and only in use since 2015) Mule (as new condition only used for downwind sailing in 15+ kn since 2015) heavy cloth genoa for inner stay or as heavy weather genoa for outer stay Flying (as new condition and only used a few times ) Used together with staysail on outer stay for upwind beating in heavy winds (used once) Spinnaker with sock (older but in perfect condition) not to big in order to sail it without the need for spinnaker poles. A total of 7 winches : 30b three 27hp (20 kw) with HBW 40 and new 2022 dripless Bunks: Currently sleeps 5 but can be 7 if another matress is bought. -3 real queen sized bunks (2 fwd. of which one is without matress as it is used for storrage + 1 aft) -1 (in aft cabin) Galley: -Double sink with foot pump for freshwater + saltwater. -Although pressurized cold water available in galley and on deck. -Seaward 3 burner with big . -Fireboy gas detector and shut off. -Propane locker outside with space for 3x 20 lb tanks giving independence for 9-14 month depending on usage Heads: marine (replaced around 2016) with direkt overboard or seawage tank discharge, bow section under designed as shower room with sump and manual pump, no shower installed as I used portable 12 v shower sets with a 20 ltr. canister to be used in shower room or cockpit Cabin heat: 2x Sigmarine (now Dickinson) powerless heaters in each cabin. LENGTH: Traditionally, LOA (length over all) equaled hull length. Today, many builders use LOA to include rail overhangs, bowsprits, etc. and LOD (length on deck) for hull length. That said, LOA may still mean LOD if the builder is being honest and using accepted industry standards developed by groups like the ABYC (American Boat and Yacht Council).

I would also put in a plug for the Searunner 31 and Searunner 25. They have the significant advantage of removable amas, which means you can shop in a different market than you live in. Lots of work to disassemble a 31, but doable, and both the 31 and the 25 can be trailered on a flatbed with cradle.
Fully restored Jim Brown-designed Searunner 25' located in Seattle. It's hard to imagine what it would be like to sail across an ocean aboard a 25-foot boat. And yet, that's exactly what some sailors have done on a Searunner 25.
The Searunner 25 trimaran has a hinge mechanism on its metal-tube A-frame akas that secures with bolts at both ends. Commonly, simple hinge systems require that the main hull be positioned rather high on the trailer so the amas clear the trailer wheels beneath. A disadvantage is that the trailer must be submerged more deeply than usual for the ...
