A 20-year-old Instagram model from Australia has been found dead on a Mexican billionaire’s superyacht.

Sinead McNamara was found in a critical condition on the boat on Thursday as it was docked on the Greek island of Kefalonia.

She died while being airlifted to a hospital in Athens.

Ms McNamara was working as a crew member on the ship Mayan Queen IV , which is owned by Alberto Bailleres, 87, a mining tycoon.

Local media reports said Mr Bailleres and his family had left the yacht days before the death and only crew remained on board.

Ms McNamara had more than 12,000 followers on her Instagram account, where she posted pictures from her travels.

The cause of her death remains unclear.

A senior police officer told The Sunday Times : “By the looks of it, she took her life. We expect the autopsy to verify this in the coming days.”

However, her cousin told the Australian Daily Telegraph her family did not know the cause of death, but believed she may have died in a boating accident.

Ms McNamara’s family were reportedly on their way to Greece to visit her when they heard the news of her death.

The Mayan Queen IV will remain in port as investigators work to discover what happened, local media reports.

The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has said it is providing consular assistance to her family.

Failed relationship focus for police in Sinead McNamara death inquiry

AUSTRALIAN model Sinead McNamara may have been upset about a relationship breakdown before her shock death, and spoke to crew members about her fragile state.

A law enforcement source — who was familiar with the inquiry into the 20-year-old Instagram star’s death but not authorised to speak about it — said members of the Mayan Queen IV’s crew told police she confided in them.

“She was upset and made comments about a relationship ending or some sort of trouble in her private life,” the source told news.com.au in Kefalonia, an island off the western Greek coast.

Ms McNamara was about to spend her final day on the Mayan Queen after four months working on the boat as a stewardess and was hours away from being reunited with her mother Kylie and sister Lauren, who were on their way from Australia to Greece.

An autopsy into her death has been held but toxicology results and the inquiry into the circumstances have not been completed. It is a suspected suicide, but police are yet to officially determine how she died.

Model Sinead McNamara was found dead on the superyacht where she was working as crew just off the Greek island of Kefalonia.

The source told news.com.au Ms McNamara’s text messages were being examined and could form an important part of the inquiry. It was not known if a suicide note had been left.

It’s understood the last person she is known to have spoken to was a crew member, about 15 minutes before she was found on the deck.

The source could not confirm whether she was being comforted, as local media reports suggest, only that a conversation took place.

Ms McNamara, who had 14,000 Instagram followers, posted last month: “Living & working on a boat seeing all that the world has to offer. Yep I think I have it pretty good.”

The 20-year-old had recently posted about being reunited with her mother and sister in Greece.

Just a week ago, she posted excitedly about her family’s upcoming visit. “Happy birthday to the most amazing big sister I could ever ask for, 5 days till I get to see you!! Excitement is an understatement,” she wrote.

It followed a far darker message on her Instagram profile, in which she wrote: “My head is all over the shop today.” The post was accompanied by emojis of a volcano, a tornado and a blood-soaked needle.

She also shared a picture of herself sitting carefree on a quad bike with a caption that said: “Take me back to this where my only worry was not cracking my skull open.”

Tributes have flowed on social media since Ms McNamara’s tragic death, with friends and family describing her as “free-spirited” and “adventurous” on social media.

She died on what was reportedly her last day working on the $200 million Mayan Queen IV, pictured in Barbados. Picture: www.superyachttimes.com

Her family were reportedly warned not to view her body in the morgue due to the state it was in.

She was discovered on the deck by the captain of a neighbouring boat. His friend confirmed to news.com.au it was evident straight away the social media star was gravely injured and they immediately feared she was dead.

The captain desperately tried to save Ms Namara’s life and when she was found to be breathing and appeared stable, he at first believed she might survive.

“We were actually celebrating at first because we thought she had been saved,” said the friend. “It was later we heard she had died.”

The skipper was returning to his boat about 1.45am on Friday after a night in one of the many bars that surround Argostoli harbour when he saw the young woman. He shouted, “What are you doing?” and when she didn’t answer, began frantically calling for help.

Mexican billionaire Alberto Bailleres, who owns the yacht, had left two days before Ms McNamara’s death. Picture:

The $200 million superyacht, owned by billionaire Mexican businessman Alberto Bailleres , left the Greek island on Sunday. Mr Bailleres and his family had left two days before Ms McNamara was found on the yacht, with only crew members on board at the time of her death.

Kefalonia locals said there had been many rumours about what happened to Ms McNamara. But she was on board a luxury ship — and those associated with such vessels guarded the information closely, they said.

“You won’t find too many people will not want to talk about this,” one local bar manager said. “It’s not that they don’t care it’s … people like this, that sort of boat, it’s difficult to get the right information.”

At least one local who news.com.au has confirmed was linked to the Mayan Queen IV refused to comment when approached today.

“It is a matter for the Port Authority, that is their job, not yours,” he said.

An Australian Instagram model who died after she was found unconscious on a Mexican billionaire’s super yacht in Greece hanged herself, the Greek coroner’s office said Monday.

The coroner told Britain’s  The Sunday Times  that Sinead McNamara had killed herself using a thick rope. The 20-year-old model was found hanging from an upper deck on the Mayan Queen IV just before 2 a.m. Friday in the Greek port of Argostoli in Kefalonia.

A captain on a neighboring boat had discovered McNamara and yelled for help,  news.com.au  reported.

A doctor on the yacht, as well as other crewmembers, attempted to revive McNamara before authorities arrived at the scene. She died in the helicopter on the way to the hospital.

The coroner said McNamara was “unconscious, but not dead” when she was found on the 300-foot yacht owned by billionaire businessman Alberto Bailleres. The mining magnate was not on the $140 million yacht during the incident.

A toxicology test is being conducted. No suicide note was found at the scene.

INSTAGRAM MODEL FOUND DEAD ON MEXICAN BILLIONAIRE'S YACHT IN GREECE; MYSTERIOUS DEATH INVESTIGATED

Several details about McNamara’s death remain unclear, including what led to her suicide. The model had been working on the yacht as a stewardess for the last four months and had worked her final shift before she was set to reunite with her mother and sister, news.com.au reported. She posted on Instagram days before her death saying she was excited to see her sister.

“Happy birthday to the most amazing big sister I could ever ask for, 5 days till I get to see you!! Excitement is an understatement,” she wrote.

Earlier in the month, the model shared a cryptic post, writing: "My head is all over the shop today...take me back to this where my only worry was not cracking my skull open."

WORKING ON A SUPERYACHT IS A 'PRESSURE COOKER,' STAFFERS SAY

Authorities are also searching McNamara’s text messages and reviewing security footage that captured her last moments.

The super yacht was initially ordered to remain at the port during the investigation into McNamara’s death. Police allowed the yacht to sail on Sunday after all the crewmembers were interviewed by police.

McNamara’s body is expected to return to her family in Australia on Tuesday.

A popular Instagram model died after being found unconscious and twisted in rope on a billionaire’s yacht in Greece, according to reports.

Australian stunner Sinead McNamara, 20, had been working on the six-story Mayan Queen IV, a yacht owned by Mexican mining magnate Alberto Baillères anchored off the Greek island of Kefalonia, at the time of her death on Friday, The Australian newspaper reported.

The cause of death hasn’t been determined yet. Local media outlets in Greece say McNamara tried to commit suicide aboard the mega ship, citing anonymous sources.

A person on the port noticed the woman at the back of the yacht tangled in rope at dawn Friday and called the police. A doctor on board and port officials tried to save the young woman, but she died in a helicopter en route to an Athens hospital.

Billionaire Baillères wasn’t on board his ship at the time of the incident, according to local media.

The jet-setting blond bombshell chronicled her travels for her 14,800 followers, and hundreds of people left their condolences on her last post, an image of iridescent blue waters in Greece.

“I have unfortunately received the worst news of my life, [Sinead] has passed away,” her brother, Jake McNamara, told The Australian.

Their older sister, Lauren, was due to meet McNamara in Greece, according to social media.

“Happy birthday to the most amazing big sister I could ever ask for, 5 days till I get to see you!!! Excitement is an understatement,” McNamara posted on Facebook Aug. 26.

McNamara, who hailed from Sydney, arrived in Greece in mid-June after traveling to Bermuda, Bali and the Whitsunday Islands in Australia. Her mother was heading to Greece on Sunday, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

The circumstances of her death remain unclear, and Greek authorities have reportedly launched an investigation while the coast guard has ordered the yacht to remain docked at the port of Argostoli.

Authorities told The Times that McNamara was found by a crew member hanging on the rear deck of the yacht, with initial evidence pointing to a possible suicide.

A senior officer with knowledge of the investigation told The Times: "By the looks of it, she took her life. We expect the autopsy to verify this in the coming days."

Parents of australian instagram model found on billionaire’s yacht fight back against claims of suicide.

Author

Sinead McNamara, 20, died last month en route to the hospital after she was found on Mexican mining mogul Alberto Bailleres’ yacht off the Greek island of Kefalonia.

Local reports out of Greece have continued to claim that investigating authorities have found no evidence of foul play after reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing all 23 crew members – and that all signs point to suicide.

But McNamara’s family believes investigators need to dig deeper, as they may be ignoring key details if they assume she committed suicide.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that McNamara’s family believes the yacht, currently in the main port in Ibiza, Spain, was allowed to leave Kefalonia before a proper investigation was completed.

The family has also pointed to “strange” aspects surrounding her death, like a phone call McNamara made to her mother and brother 48 hours before she died.

In the call, she allegedly cried to her family members as she recalled an incident on board involving another crew member, the family’s lawyer told the outlet.

McNamara’s death is under investigation by Greek chief coroner Elias Boyokas.

He told CNN he is waiting on autopsy results to determine an official cause of death, but did find rope marks on her neck.

McNamara had more than 16,000 followers on Instagram and frequently shared photos of her sun-soaked vacations.

She had recently spent time in Bali, Alaska and the Australian Whitsunday Islands before heading to Greece in mid-June.

Sinead McNamara (pictured) died by hanging, a Greek coroner has confirmed

An Australian Instagram model found unconscious and tangled in ropes at the back of a superyacht died from hanging, a Greek coroner has ruled.

Sinead McNamara's body is due to be flown home on Tuesday,  five days after the captain of a neighbouring superyacht spotted her on the back deck of the $190million 'Mayan Queen IV', which she had been working on as a crew member.

Ms McNamara, 20, was reportedly working her final shift on the yacht as it sat docked at Argostoli, on the Greek Island of Kafalonia, when she tragically died.

A local coroner who carried out the autopsy confirmed to Daily Mail that the cause of the Instagram star's death was hanging, but said results from additional tests could take months to come back.

The coroner revealed he had advised Ms McNamara's mother, Kylie, and her sister, Lauren, against visiting her body in the morgue, saying they should not go 'to see her in such bad state'.

The captain of another luxury superyacht made the grisly discovery of Ms McNamara's body, and has detailed how he tried desperately in vain to save her life.

The captain of the boat, who asked not to be named, told news.com.au that he saw Ms McNamara's body about 1.45am on Friday.

He shouted out to her but after receiving no response, he began screaming for help.

The captain said a police patrol passed the Mayan Queen IV but did not see the young woman's body.

A doctor on-board the Mayan Queen IV then tried to resuscitate Ms McNamara for several minutes after being alerted. After falling into a coma she was airlifted to an Athens hospital, but died on the way.

She was just hours away from reuniting with her mother and sister who were mid-air on their way to Greece when she died last Thursday.

Having been forced to cancel the holiday of a lifetime, they will now accompany Ms McNamara's body back to Australia.
