Yacht Club of Sea Isle City Wedding | Jersey Shore

Our favorite photos from this wedding day that took place at the Sea Isle City Yacht Club at the Jersey Shore! It was the perfect day and perfect couple to capture photos of during the getting ready, the waterfront ceremony on the docks, portraits on the beach, and reception in the yacht club’s ballroom.

We have seen a few midnight snacks at weddings in the past, but this hotdog stand was the most authentic!

Simple, Classic Details for a Sweet, Modern Bride

Julia’s details may have been simple, but they were so classic and elegant, and you could tell how much they all meant to her!  From the moment I saw her Maggie Sottero dress, I knew that Julia would look absolutely breathtaking in it! (Spoiler alert – she really did!!)

Getting Ready with the Girls at a Private Residence in Sea Isle City, NJ

Julia and her girls arrived back at the house, after a morning of pampering at the Fusion Salon. Each girl looked so beautiful, and their hair and makeup was perfect with their burgundy bridesmaids dresses! Julia’s mom and sister helped her to get ready, while the rest of the bridesmaids and her future Mother in Law were waiting in the Family room for the reveal!  There were so many happy tears shed!

The Story of Julia and Nick

Nick and Julia met while studying abroad in Beijing (which is where they are currently honeymooning!!).  He was at school in Cleveland and Julia was in Baltimore, and they both had chosen Beijing for their Junior Fall Semester abroad!  A few days after arriving, the group of students took a 3 week Silk Road trip across China. Two weeks into the trip, a group of them had gone to a Karaoke bar. Nick and Julia talked the entire way there, as well as all throughout the night.  There was a spark between them, as shortly after returning to Beijing, they were inseparable!

Over the next year and a half, they successfully endured a long distance relationship and visited one another as often as they could! After graduation, they both moved to Florida for their graduate programs!  It was in Florida, in 2017, that Nick proposed to Julia – at the China Pavilion in Epcot!

A Meaningful Ceremony at Sacred Heart Church in Avalon, NJ

Julia and Nick said their vows at a beautiful jersey shore church that turns 90 years old this year! Every moment was planned perfectly, and they were pronounced husband and wife!

Stone Harbor Bird Sanctuary is a 21.5-acre bird sanctuary and nature preserve in Stone Harbor, Cape May County, New Jersey.  When heading down the shore, you’d never expect to have such a beautiful, serene place right on the middle of the island!  We had a great time capturing the people that mean the most to Julia and Nick in this beautiful location!

Bride & Groom Photos at the Stone Harbor Bird Sanctuary

Although, Julia and Nick were getting married down at the Jersey Shore, they didn’t want the typical beach photos.  So, when I recommended the Stone Harbor Bird Sanctuary, they were so excited! We walked through the Egret Espy Path, through whispering pine trees, over a beautiful footbridge, and through the intricate, artistic remnants of white spruce.  Julia and Nick were such a joy to capture, and truly made our job easy!  There is so much love between these two, and it is undeniable!

A Fun Reception with their Family & Friends at the Yacht Club of Sea Isle City

The Yacht Club of Sea Isle City is located in the Bay.  The building overlooks the water and has absolutely breathtaking views of sunset! From the staff to the food, the YCSIC does not disappoint!  Julia and Nick chose to have the Big City Band Philadelphia as their entertainment for the evening, and gosh, it was a great choice!  We always LOVE bands at weddings, and they were phenomenal!  I think the dance floor was full all night!

You need to be a member or guest of a member for admittance. Excellent, friendly waitstaff and bar tenders. The top floor "Crows Nest" has a large bar, outdoor seating, and a large pub food menu. The menu changes often, has a good selection, a wide price range. The soups, particularly the seafood chowder, are always excellent.

Love this place. The sunset will take your breath away. The beverages are well priced. You do need to join the club or be a guest of a member to come here. I store my kayak here and have used the club kayaks as well. It's a great place to launch from. I am going to try some sailing lessons some time before the end of the summer. The people are nice and the staff is very accomodating. They strive to know everyone's name. I am definitely glad I joined, the dues are relatively inexpensive, but there is a very long waiting list. We were on it for two years and we just got in at the beginning of the summer of 2014.

One of the worst dinners ever! Although the servers are very pleasant, they are inexperienced and incompetent. We were never given a napkin, silverware or water until after the food was served and then we had to ask for it. No salt or pepper provided until we flagged down someone to request it. Our drinks were served without a napkin or coaster and the moisture leaked all over the table. Every one of the wines we selected were sold out and the glasses we selected were served about 15 minutes too late. We were never given rolls which were supposed to part of the menu selection. I ordered the prime rib medium rare and was given a big grey slab of beef - not even sure it was prime rib - chewy and not edible. The views are spectacular but not worth the mess. If you want a view, go to the Beach. If you want dinner, go somewhere else.

The Yacht Club of Sea Isle City 5 anchors 4487 Venicean Rd, Sea Isle City, NJ 08243 The Yacht Club of Sea Isle City New Jersey is excellent! The food is spectacular, and the service is amazing! It is a very kid and family friendly restaurant with a deck that overlooks the beautiful bay. You must be a member to dine at the Yacht Club, but it is definitely worth it! It is an affordable restaurant. The employees are super nice and care about their customers! I definitely recommend getting a membership and dining at the Yacht Club of Sea Isle City. There is a great mix of people there and everybody is kind and friendly! There are weddings and special events held there sometimes! There is also seating on the deck so you can enjoy the beautiful weather and view! The Yacht Club is my favorite restaurant and for a very good reason! The food is beyond amazing and the chef takes pride in his job! I enjoy the inside and outside of the Yacht Club because it has a very homely feel. It is nice to step outside to either eat or get some fresh air! I recommend getting a membership and eating at the Yacht Club of Sea Isle City! It is my favorite restaurant!

It’s Smooth Sailing at Yacht Club’s Summer Camp in Sea Isle City

yacht club of sea isle city photos

By Donald Wittkowski

Propelled by a gentle breeze, tiny sailboats smoothly crisscrossed the channel next to the Yacht Club of Sea Isle City on a recent day when the water was as calm as a pond.

This idyllic scene, repeated countless times during the nearly 80 years the yacht club has been in existence, remains special because some of the sailors are as tiny as their boats.

Ever since the yacht club was founded in 1940, it has taught generations of young people, from ages 8 to 18, the art of sailing in a summer camp at the Jersey Shore.

While the words “yacht club” might conjure up images of hoity-toity aristocrats sipping champagne on their palatial pleasure craft, this sailing program is unique because it is affordable, organizers stressed.

“It is an opportunity to learn sailing in a very affordable way. It is very affordable, especially when compared to other yacht clubs in the area,” said Kate Donato, a member of the YCSIC’s sailing club committee who has her sons, Billy, 13, and Nick, 11, enrolled in the camp.

General Manager Jim Collins said YCSIC is the only yacht club in the area that opens up its sailing lessons to nonmembers. It also supplies the sailboats, making the camp even more affordable for families.

“Since no other yacht club in the area offers weekly lessons to nonmember students, we get kids from surrounding towns participating,” Collins said. “Parents will enroll their kids in a weekly beginner class before making the investment in their own boat or the big expense of becoming a member of another yacht club.”

yacht club of sea isle city photos

Lessons are given at the beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. The cost per week is $150 for club members and $225 for nonmembers. A 25 percent discount is given if students sign up for the program for four weeks or more. Further discounts are given if students own their sailboats.

There are still openings for the camp, which runs through the week of Aug. 14. More information is available by calling (609) 263-7282, ext. 14 or emailing [email protected] .

According to a promotional brochure for the camp, the Yacht Club of Sea Isle City has “kept sailing and recreation for young people as its main focus” since its inception.

“The goal of our sailing program is to help our campers become proficient sailors, or, if desired, award-winning competitive sailors,” the brochure says. “Teaching sound basic seamanship skills with an emphasis on safety does this. We hope to instill the excitement of the sport of sailing in all of our campers.”

Students in the YCSIC camp race against sailors at other yacht clubs. In addition, the YCSIC is a member of the Mid-Atlantic Yacht Racing Association and hosts a regatta each summer.

Collins said 90 students participated in the camp last summer, about a 20 percent increase compared to the previous three years.

yacht club of sea isle city photos

He noted that sailing among young people peaked in the 1970s and ’80s, then began to decline as personal watercraft such as Jet Skis and Wave Runners became popular and surfing continued its appeal at the Jersey Shore. But sailing appears to be making a comeback in recent years.

“I think sailing, in general, was on the decline compared with other sports, especially when you consider the expense of getting your own boat. But it’s definitely on the incline now,” Collins said.

Julia Portland, 17, one of the instructors at the YCSIC camp, said sailing has opened up new opportunities for her in college. She will sail competitively on the varsity team at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va., when she begins her freshman year in the fall.

Portland, of Collingswood, Camden County, visits with her grandparents over the summer at their Sea Isle home. She began taking sailing lessons at the YCSIC camp when she was just 9 or 10. She recalled with a laugh how many times the boat tipped over the first time she ventured out on the water with her sailing friend.

“I was not really a fan of sailing then,” Portland said. “But eventually it got to the point where I loved the sport.”

Zach Jones, 14, of Berwyn, Pa., started taking beginner lessons at YCSIC last year and now envisions himself becoming a competitive sailor at an advanced level.

“What’s cool about it is, not only is it just racing, but it’s about doing your best and trying and learning,” said Jones, who will be a high school freshman in the fall.

yacht club of sea isle city photos

Billy Donato, the 13-year-old son of Kate Donato, a member of the YCSIC sailing club committee, has been sailing for five years and racing for three. He described the feeling of winning a race as “awesome.”

“When you win, you know that it’s something that you accomplished on your own,” he said.

Donato, an eighth-grader, said it was his father, himself a sailor, who originally got him interested in the sport.

“My dad sailed and always told me how cool it was,” he said.

Although learning how to sail and winning races are certainly exciting, both Jones and Donato said perhaps the best part of the camp is the friendships they make with other kids. Jones and Donato became friends through the camp.

“We’re helping each other do better,” Jones said.

Want to See America’s Cup Racing Up Close? These 9 Yacht Charters Let You Watch From the Water

America's Cup Match Racing

Next week, when the 37 th Louis Vuitton America’s Cup kicks off in Barcelona with its opening ceremony, the contest that began in 1851 with a race around the Isle of Wight between the fastest British and American sloops (the yacht America won handily) will come back to Europe for the first time in 14 years.

The move to the Catalan capital from the 2021 event in New Zealand will make it more accessible to sailing fans in Europe, and even North Americans who want to view the fast, technical AC75 foiling boats in person. Barcelona has been preparing itself for a surge of spectators for the “return” of the Cup, which was held twice in Valencia, Spain, in the aughts.

The America’s Cup may be billed as “the race with no second place,” but it takes three months of racing and four events for one of five Challenger teams to win the Louis Vuitton Cup, and that winner will race Defender Emirates Team New Zealand in the America’s Cup final. The racing runs from August through October, and this year includes a first-time all-women’s America’s Cup as well as an event for the world’s best youth sailors.

Having Barcelona as a venue was a smart move, partly for the gorgeous beaches fronting the race course on the Med. But there is also the city’s magnificent architecture and sense of history as well as vibrant arts, culture and, of course, no shortage of Michelin-starred restaurants.

There are many five-star hotels in the area, but the smartest and most thrilling way to see racing is by water. The vessel options are wide-ranging—from weeklong superyacht charters to luxury suites on a cruise ships to day trips on sailboats with Michelin-starred cuisine. Many can be combined with on-land stays and even cruises to other parts of Spain as part of the itineraries.

One important note: Four zones adjoining the race course allow spectator boats. Before chartering a vessel, be sure to find out which zone the boat will operate in, because that impacts how close you are to the racing.

Here are 9 options to suit the most avid Cup aficionados or those visiting Barcelona who want to sip champagne and watch the AC75 foiling boats battle it out.

Superyacht ‘Resilience’

yacht club of sea isle city photos

Edmiston is offering charters aboard the 212-foot Resilience during the America’s Cup. The ISA-built superyacht, designed by Enrico Gobbi, features a mosaic-tiled pool, circular fire pit and a BBQ for a ringside lunch. Post-race pampering comes via the steam room, sundeck jacuzzi and gym, and there’s even a self-playing Edelweiss piano and projector for evening entertainment. The vessel sleeps 12 across seven cabins. From September 16, weekly charters start at about $645,000 (€600,000).

Explora Journeys

yacht club of sea isle city photos

The soon-to-be-launched Explora II looks very much like its sistership, the Explora I : onyx finishes, self-playing Steinways, on-deck Technogym bikes, a spa with a Himalayan salt room, Dunhill cigar den and a wine cellar boasting decades-old Chateau Latour. With 461 luxury suites, how was the Explora II chosen to become an America’s Cup viewing platform? The idea came from the top down.

“I love sailing and believe the Med is the most beautiful sea on earth,” Pierfrancesco Vago, executive chairman of the cruise division of MSC Group, told Robb Report during a visit aboard Explora I in Barcelona. “We thought if only our customers could also experience [the America’s Cup], we can call it the ocean state of mind.”

Explora II launches in mid-September, with itineraries planned to coincide with the different Cup events. On October 6, the vessel will be in port for the Louis Vuitton Cup Final and Puig Women’s Races. Guests can take a walk to the official race village and experience its excitement before watching the races from their suites. A 10-night journey starts from $5,210 per guest.

The Almanac Sailing Experience

yacht club of sea isle city photos

Barcelona’s Almanac hotel has a romantic-gastronomic experience that offers guests front-row seats on a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 45 sailboat with a capacity for 10 guests. Besides the racing, the package includes two nights at the hotel. The boat comes with the hotel’s branded slippers and Jimmy Boyd bespoke amenities. Enjoy a selection of customized Cava Bellinis from the pop-up bar. Chefs from the hotels’ restaurant will also serve up shrimp salad and fennel ceviche paired with organic Spanish wines. The boat can be chartered every Saturday from August 31 to October 26. The Louis Vuitton Cup round-robin starts on August 29 and lasts through Sept. 8. There’s also the Puig Women’s Race (first all-female America’s Cup in its 171-year history) and, of course, the America’s Cup finals in October. Prices start at $2,940 per couple.

Superyacht ‘C’

yacht club of sea isle city photos

For a majestic week-long cruise that incorporates America’s Cup summer races and possible side itineraries in Costa Dorada, Sitges and Formentera, Camper & Nicholsons’ expansive 177-ft C is the flashy option, defined by Minotti furniture, lacquered panels and a hamman. It also sleeps 12 in six cabins that feature a master and two VIP suites. Its chase boat also offers a great opportunity for side trips. Weekly charters from Sept. 18-October 31 run from about $513,000 or €400,000.

Sailing Yacht ‘Imagine’

UK adventure specialists Pelorus offer a private seat on an elegant sailing boat seeped in America’s Cup history. Built in New Zealand by Alloy Yachts, Imagine is a 110-footer that served as an official viewing platform for the America’s Cup in Auckland, but it has also completed three global circumnavigations. Beyond its sailing chops, it’s a beautiful vessel, with a blonde, teak-lined deck, large salon and dining area, and three cabins for sleeping seven guests. It will be available from October 12 for the America’s Cup final. Pelorus is also offering to bookend the week with trips to Majorca and Ibiza. About $101,000 (£79,121)

Superyacht ‘Diane’

Also available from Edmiston, the 141-ft Diane can accommodate 10 guests in five staterooms for the week. The interior is all about soft hues, featuring cream leather and white marble, boasting a bar and plenty of outdoor seating for watching the races. For the non-race legs, guests can take to the water via the large beach club, complete with seabobs and wakeboards. It has a Balearics license, making a hop to Ibiza or Majorca a possibility. Weekly charter rates from September 23 run about $150,000 per week (€140,000)

Black Tomato Cup Package

Incorporating a city-stay, Black Tomato’s America’s Cup getaway includes a day’s private day charter to view the race, plus five nights at the Mandarin Oriental as well as visiting the regatta course and different bases of the America’s Cup teams for an insider’s look at the operations and technology. As a dayboat, its Bali Yacht Saxador 400 GTO can accommodate 11 guests. It sets sail from Port Olympic, giving guests a sweeping view of the city on one side and the regatta course on the other. The boat has access to the blue area (for preferred charter boats) on the front line. From $12,750 per person, based on two people.

Superyacht ‘Quasar’

Camper & Nicholsons recently introduced the 153-foot Quasar to the charter market and what a great way to end the Med season than by viewing the America’s Cup. It has six cabins (including two master suites) that can accommodate 12 guests, along excellent outdoor seating, an upper salon that joins the aft deck area for viewing the races or dining al-fresco. The beach club has a large selection of water toys. Visits to scenic Med ports around Barcelona are also possible on the week’s charter, which start at about $232,000 (€210,000).

Superyacht ‘Kiawah’

For front row seats on day charters in the blue zone (the third-closest area to the races), official charter partner ac37 Sailcharters offers different types of vessels and packages. The 110-foot Kiawah features a cocktail lunch on board, a specialized lecture from an expert sailor, and an AV system to follow the race in real time. From August 22 through October 11, daily rates are about $34,000 (€30,800) and during the America’s Cup finals October 12-27, rates move to about $41,000 (€37,400).
