Silence & comfort

Home is all about fuel efficiency and comfort. Her lightweight aluminium hull form offers superlative performance and efficiency in a luxurious design package of under 500GT. Add a striking superstructure, vertical bow and spacious aft platform with a wide staircase leading to the main deck and we believe this yacht is a cut above others in her class.

First impressions

The exterior of Home is designed by Omega Architects and it’s our first yacht with hybrid propulsion. In this case ‘Hybrid’ means that the yacht can draw on two sources of power for propulsion: diesel mechanical and diesel electrical. Either or both sources can be used at the same time. This provides less noise and vibration, a more flexible power management which means better efficiency.

Step aboard

The brief to Cristiano Gatto with regard to the interior styling was to provide a relaxed and welcoming beach club ambience with ample connection to the outside environment. To achieve this objective, Cristiano and his team have drawn on natural materials with minimal artificial treatments and taken full advantage of the full-height glass windows.

'Below Deck Mediterranean' Season 7 is going to be like no other seasons we have seen before. Aside from the usual crew drama, and erratic guest demands, get ready to watch Captain Sandy Yawn tackle a 163-foot motor yacht "Home" for the first time on the pristine waters of Malta.

Home, which will be the first diesel-electric motor yacht to be featured on 'Below Deck' franchise has been described as "a complex hybrid vessel" by Bravo. This "complex hybrid vessel" definitely stands up to its description as the trailer reveals Captain Sandy complaining about hitting the vessel against something for the first time in her career, and in another scene we see a crash being teased. It should come as no surprise that the cost of chartering the luxury superyacht is pretty steep. According to Boat International , the cost of chartering Home ranges from $245,000 to $273,000 per week. The luxury superyacht is also listed for sale at an asking price of  €29,500,000, which Bustle estimated at just over $30.8 million. According to the listing, Home was built by the Dutch shipyard- Heesen in 2017. 

The motor yacht can comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests in its six cabins. The interiors feature a simple yet contemporary Ibiza-style decor that was designed by Cristiano Gatto. Some of the amenities aboard Home include a large sun deck, jacuzzi, swim platform, air-conditioned gym, and sky lounge.

Who owns 'Below Deck Med's luxury yacht Home?

According to SuperYachtFan , Home is owned by Harald McPike. The yacht is legally owned by a company named New Life Ltd. New Life is also the name of his previous yacht: a 28 meters Lazarra 92 LSX. He used to live on board this yacht, before buying the Heesen Home. The 50-metre Home was built by Dutch shipyard Heesen in 2017 as a 'home away from home' for her owner. 

Harald is a Bahamas-based Austrian billionaire and a part-owner of Starling Bank. He is the founder of the Bahamas-based investment fund QuantRes. He is married to Joann McPike, the founder of Think Global School. The couple has a son named Alexander McPike together. Harald made headlines in 2014 when he paid a whopping US$7 million deposit to Virginia company Space Adventures for a lunar orbit for $150 million. His net worth has been estimated to be around $1 billion.

Heesen Yachts Launches Project Nova, Christened Home

Heesen Yachts launched last week its much-anticipated hybrid superyacht Project Nova , newly christened Home . The 163-foot (49.8-meter) aluminum motor yacht is the first Fast Displacement yacht with hybrid propulsion. Besides being a super-efficient, low-fuel-burning vessel, Home is also whisper quiet when cruising—especially when just using its two water-cooled 170 hp DC electric shaft motors for propulsion.

Labeled a hybrid, Home boasts two propulsion power sources: diesel mechanical and diesel electrical. These options can be used separately or together, giving the owners increased efficiency.

Omega Architects penned Home ’s contemporary exterior lines, with its vertical bow, dramatic superstructure, and broad aft stairway leading to the large swim platform from the main deck. Omega also thoughtfully gave the yacht a modest 7-foot draft, allowing Home to cruise the notoriously shallow waters of the Bahamas with ease.

Home ’s interior came from Italian designer Cristiano Gatto, giving the yacht a modern yet welcoming two-tone palette, including white fabrics and leathers that contrast nicely with wood. A few pieces of red furniture give it some spice.

The full-beam main-deck owner’s apartment sits forward and includes floor-to-ceiling windows. Five guest cabins are housed down below, and comprise two doubles, two twins, and one full-beam VIP stateroom, to accommodate a total of 12 guests, including the owners.

Everyone will appreciate the lower-deck wellness area featuring a spa and gym facilities, as well as direct access to the aft main deck. Up top on the sundeck, guests will find a Jacuzzi, dining table for 12, and sun loungers.

A highlight of this new hybrid yacht is its skylounge, which features floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the water. Exterior teak in the interior lounge brings the outside in, making a smooth transition between the aft-deck dining area and the lounge.

Two MTU 12V 805 hp engines propel the ever-efficient Home to a top speed of 16.3 and a transatlantic range of 3,750 nautical miles when cruising at 12 knots.

Home will be delivered to its owners in June following sea trials, and just in time for the summer cruising season. ( heesenyachts.com )

This new season will be similar to longtime fans of the show in that Captain Sandy is again at the helm of the ship leading both guests and crew. However, what will be different this go-around is actually most of the crew. The unfamiliar faces are sure to add a refreshing twist on the now reality classic.

When is the Below Deck Mediterranean season 7 release date?  

Below Deck Mediterranean season 7 premieres with a supersized episode on Monday, July 11, at 8 pm ET/PT. The episode becomes available the next day over on Peacock . Speaking of Peacock, the streaming giant is offering subscribers early access to the premiere episode beginning on Monday, July 4. 

Below Deck fans in the UK should be able to access the new season on Peacock via both Sky TV and NOW.

Different than previous charter seasons, Sandy is working with a complex hybrid vessel making it more unpredictable to navigate. To ensure smooth sailing this year, Sandy brings on a trio of new department heads, but when surprising friction in the galley intensifies between the Chief Stew and Chef, who came onto the boat as colleagues and friends, tension permeates through the entire boat. 

"Meanwhile, the deck team faces an uphill battle when one crew member is unable to adapt to the high demands of Mediterranean super-yachting, forcing others to pick up the slack. Below Deck Mediterranean season 7 cast  

There are only two familiar faces returning to the new season of Below Deck Mediterranean . One of those happens to be Mzi "Zee" Dempers. The deckhand was quick to become a fan favorite during season 6. 

The other cast member back for another yacht season is of course, Captain Sandy Yawn. What would this series be without Captain Sandy leading the crew and appeasing the charter guests? With over three decades in the industry and going on six seasons on Below Deck Mediterranean , she has done a phenomenal job at earning the respect of her yachting peers and the adoration of Bravo fans.  

Joining Dempers and Captain Sandy this season are Chief Stew Natasha Webb, Chef Dave White, Bosun Raygan Tyler, Stews Natalya Scudder and Kyle Viljoen and Deckhands Storm Smith and Jason Gaskell.

After watching the trailer, we aren’t sure whether to be more enamored with the various romantic pairings this season or the fact the yacht appears to take a few hits on the open waters. Take a look for yourself.  

By the way, now that fans of the Below Deck universe have managed to get a real sense of Captain Jason from Below Deck Down Under after his first season, we can’t but wonder who tends to be more entertaining when laying down the law, him, Captain Lee from Below Deck or Captain Sandy from Below Deck Mediterranean . Captain Lee for sure makes it crystal clear when he’s had enough of the antics from the crew or from guests. On the other hand, seeing Captain Sandy take someone to task, especially guests, is slightly more comical. What do you think?

The bodies of UK tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch and four of his guests on the superyacht Bayesian have been recovered, three days after it sank off the coast of Sicily, according to Italian officials.

The officials said the bodies of Christopher Morvillo of the law firm Clifford Chance and Jonathan Bloomer , chair of insurance group Hiscox and Morgan Stanley International, alongside their wives, Neda Morvillo and Judy Bloomer, have been retrieved.

Lynch’s 18-year-old daughter Hannah is still missing, after Bayesian went down in an intense storm near Palermo on Monday.

The five bodies were pulled from the sunken yacht on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. The body of Recaldo Thomas, the boat’s chef, had been retrieved earlier in the week.

The officials asked not to be named as they were not authorised to speak publicly.

No formal identification of the bodies has been announced by the local authorities. The Italian public prosecutor is charged with making the official determination of the deaths.

A representative for the Morvillo family spoke of their “tremendous loss”.

“We are completely devastated by the passing of Chris and Neda, and our collective hearts go out to all the families who have also been affected by this senseless tragedy,” they said.

A Bloomer family spokesperson described their “unimaginable grief”.

“Our parents were incredible people and an inspiration to many, but first and foremost they were focused on and loved their family,” they said. “Together for five decades, our only comfort is that they are still together now.”

A spokesperson for the Lynch family declined to comment.

David Tabizel, who helped Lynch set up Autonomy, paid tribute to his “exhausting, exhilarating and incisive” friend, describing him as a “witty, loyal polymath with a mind like a razor blade”.

Brent Hoberman, the investor and entrepreneur who co-founded Lastminute.com and Founders Forum, said Lynch was a “pioneering titan of UK technology”. “He was an outlier and an original thinker,” he said.

Lord John Browne, former chief executive of BP, said Lynch “should be remembered as the person who catalysed a breed of deep tech entrepreneurs in the UK”.

Suranga Chandratillake, former US chief technology officer at Autonomy and now investor at Balderton Capital, called Lynch’s death an “incalculable loss to UK tech”, as well as a “hugely inspirational friend who would always have time to help you find a solution [with] a sense of humour [and] a cup of builder’s tea”.

The trip on Bayesian had been planned as a celebration of Lynch’s recent acquittal on US fraud charges, after a 12-year legal battle over the $11bn sale of his software group Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard.

Morvillo represented Lynch in his recent US case, and Bloomer appeared at the trial as a witness for the defence.

Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, was one of 15 survivors rescued in the early hours of Monday morning.

Italian and UK authorities are investigating the exact circumstances of the shipwreck after some eyewitnesses claimed the yacht sank in just a matter of minutes.

Giovanni Costantino, chief executive of Italian Sea Group, which owns Bayesian’s manufacturers Perini Navi, told the Financial Times that the 56-metre, British-registered yacht was “absolutely safe”. ISG’s tracking data shows it took 16 minutes from the time Bayesian started dragging its anchor until it sank.

A team of divers has struggled for days to access the interior cabins of the 540-tonne yacht, due to the volume of debris inside a wreck that lies 50 metres below the surface.
