Price drop on classic sailing yacht Silver Spray

The 33.4 metre sailing yacht Silver Spray , listed for sale by Van Der Vliet Quality Yachts, has had a further €150,000 price reduction.

Built in steel by Dutch yard Scheepswerf Piet Smit , she was delivered in 1916 as one of the Dutch North Sea pilot schooners and was totally rebuilt to luxury yacht standards during 1995/99 and most recently refitted in 2017. Accommodation in a satin varnished mahogany interior is for eight guests in four cabins consisting of a master suite, a VIP suite and two twins, all with full headroom, entertainment centres and en suite shower facilities. Four crew are accommodated in two cabins aboard this yacht for sale .

The deck saloon has full headroom and comfortable seating on U-shaped and L-shaped settees, along with side tables and a built in entertainment centre including a large screen television set on a rise and fall mechanism.

Outside, her decks are wide with high bulwarks adding an extra safety factor. Under power, a single 316hp Scania diesel engine gives her a cruising speed of 8 knots.

Silver Spray has had a long and varied history, beginning her life as a pilot ship for the approaches to the major Dutch ports during the First World War. Later, after she was replaced by more modern vessels, she plied the North Sea and Arctic waters as a fishing boat and later still served as a patrol vessel around the Faroe Islands to maintain their neutrality during the Second World War. She passed through several owners until she returned to Holland and was completely rebuilt in 1999.

Silver Spray is now asking €1,350,000.

Manufacturer Provided Description

The Nordhavn 63 is yet another iteration of one of the most proven hull forms, the Nordhavn 55 became one of the most popular, and one of the most tested models produced. PAE designed the 60-foot version of the N55 platform to meet owners’ demands for increased space.

The 63 is actually an aft wheelhouse version of the N60 and its extended cockpit and boat deck. Looks-wise, however, the new model retains the same salty feel that popularized the Nordhavn 62. For those who love the N62 but have a width restriction at their slip, the N63 may be the perfect choice with its 18-foot beam. One of P.A.E.’s greatest qualities is the ability of their Chief of Designer, Jeff Leishman, and his engineering staff to continually conceive, design and introduce exciting new models.

While the 63 shares the same hull as the N55/60 designs, an entire new deck and engine room mold has been created for it, providing increased interior volume and added amenities.

There are three hydraulic accumulators. These function as a pressure reservoir in which a non-compressible hydraulic fluid is held under pressure by a prop-shaft driven hydraulic pump unit that even supplies the required power from the prop-shaft when under sail. The system supplies extra power to run the sail winches, halyards etc. without generator power.
When the hydraulic pump is connected to the propeller shaft, it is possible to sail without any use of the engine or generators for stretches of 12 – 24 hour depending on charge of the batteries. The propeller pump is capable of holding the autopilot & hydraulic winches operational. The hydraulic energy is stored in aforementioned accumulators. The battery capacity is very large to keep all electronics live for a long time. Silver Spray can sail absolutely silently.

SILVER SPRAY is a remarkable yacht. Perhaps she should be more properly described as a sailing ship. She has had a long and varied history, beginning her life as a pilot ship for the approaches to the major Dutch ports during the First World War. Later, after she was replaced in Pilot service by more modern vessels, she plied the North Sea and Arctic waters as a fishing boat and later still served as a patrol vessel around the Faroe Islands to maintain their neutrality during the Second World War. She passed through several owners until she returned to Holland and was completely rebuilt in 1999. In 2014 she had a complete refit. She now complies with Register Holland White Rules for sea going vessels worldwide and for up to 30 day guests.
Under her current ownership, she has been upgraded to full luxury “yacht” standards while maintaining her integrity as a historic vessel. In 2016, she celebrated her centenary, and joined the very rare sailing ships of the world to reach this milestone. SILVER SPRAY represents so much more than a “classic schooner”. She is part of history and the appreciation of this history cannot be explained in words. It is, however, evident to any discerning buyer on stepping aboard.
SILVER SPRAY was built from the lines of AMERICA, the famous yacht which won the first America's Cup in 1851 having crossed the Atlantic.
SILVER SPRAY is immaculate and in First Class condition.
