At SunRise Sail you have access to a sailing school and two different types of sailing clubs: The Sunrise Sailing Club and the Freetime Fleet. LEARN TO SAIL

Are you looking for sailing lessons in Atlanta ? Then discover SunRise Sailing Academy on Lake Lanier. We provide ASA certified instruction and guarantee that you will earn your ASA Basic Keelboat 101 certification. Our students take pride in the fact that after taking our sailing course they actually know how to sail. We have the lowest prices for sailing lessons on Lake Lanier. Looking for a fun and affordable way to spend a day on the water? Then come check out our FreeTime Fleet ! Our fleet includes older model Hunter, Catalina, and other types of sailboats. Whether you prefer a tiller or wheel, inboard or outboard engine, we've got you covered! Plus, all of our boats are clean and nicely equipped - perfect for a day of sailing on the lake. And when you're done for the day, just bring the boat back and return it in the same condition you found it in. We'll take care of pumping out the holding tank and filling up the fuel tank. So come on down and have some fun with us! Our boats may not be brand new but they're still in great condition - we make sure of that!

Our SunRise Sail Ownership program allows you to own, use and enjoy a new sailboat while we take care of the hassle. You can enjoy the benefits of owning a new, fully equipped sailboat while we help pay for it.

Sailing on Lake Lanier

Lake Lanier Sailing Club

Located in Flowery Branch, Lake Lanier Sailing Club is a private, family oriented sailing club that is involved in all aspects related to the sport, but places special emphasis on sailboat racing. They are affiliated with the US Sailing Association, South Atlantic Yacht Racing Association, and Dixie Inland Yacht Racing Association. They have a large clubhouse, campground, beach, bathing facilities, an 88 boat marina, and dry storage facilities that accommodate mroe than 200 trailered boats. Club members compete in numerous one-design portsmouth dinghy and auxiliary fleets at local, regional, and national levels. They also have a very active junior fleet.

Heart of Sailing

Heart of Sailing is a charity that he founded in 2004 to provide opportunities for children with developmental disabilities to sail and get active on the water.

Trips are planned almost every weekend from May through October. The boats sail hourly with up to 5 children on board and every participant was rewarded with a medal and a certificate of completion.

The Heart of Sailing focuses on children with developmental disabilities. If the child can follow instructions, keep themselves and others safe and demonstrate a basic understanding of their responsibilities, they are eligible to participate.

Barefoot Sailing Club

This club has been in existance for over 30 years. It is different from the others because you don’t have to own a boat to join, you only need a love for sailing.

Catalina 22 Fleet 58

Fleet 58 is a member of the Catalina 22 National Sailing Association. As a part of this association, it is recognized across the nation as being one of the most active fleets for cruising, racing, and social events. They believe the most valuable benefit of Fleet 58 is the members. Membership fees are $35 a year.

Southern Sailing Club of Lake Lanier

Their mission is to provide an exciting, affordable, and family-oriented club that actively seeks to enrich the sailing experiences of its members with programs that support safety, seamanship, and performance. They offer two membership levels: full and associate. Full membership is for members with or without a boat and costs $50 a year. Associate membership costs $25 a year and is for members without a boat who would like to be a part of SSC tradition.

University Yacht Club

This club was founded in 1951, is a member of the United States Sailing Association, and is listed on the registery of Yachting Clubs in America. Members participate in active power and sailing fleets that are berthed at Club docks. As the name suggests, applicants must have attended an accredited college or university, and must be sponsored by three UYC members in good standing. Upon approval of membership, there is an initial membership fee in addition to annual membership fees.

Kingdom Yachts Sailing Club

Based in Cumming, Kingdom Yachts Sailing Club has members across the south and cruise worldwide.

We have Sailboat Cruises that can accommodate guests starting with just a romantic couple or groups all the way up to 10-16 passengers. Enjoy your own Private Sailing Cruise with loved ones or family, a group of close friends or guests from your company or favorite organization.

Your Sailboat Cruise takes place on beautiful Lake Lanier, with options to enjoy fine dining at one of the near-by lake side restaurants following your cruise. On board food service is available for larger groups or if you prefer, simply bring your own picnic aboard the sailboat. Picnic baskets, coolers, glass and alcohol are permitted on all of our charters.

At your pace no matter your skill level, ahoy thank you for your interest in lanier sailing academy, we have been teach sailing on lake lanier for all levels and ambitions since 1969., all of our courses are certified by the american sailing association. once you are certified to sail we offer daily rentals for our tiller boats, or join the passport sailing club for unlimited use of our fleet, educational clinics, regattas & more, our course summary:, asa 101 basic keelboat.

Pre-Req: None

We’ll take you as a true beginner and transform you into an experienced skipper able to operate medium sized sailboats on lakes and bays for day sailing. Our sailing lessons for beginners, will certify you to operate sailboats big enough to comfortably take friends and family as your crew.

Course options are available for students with previous sailing experience.

Join the Passport Sailing Club!

Pre-Req: ASA 101 Basic Keelboat

If you don’t have a boat to sail, consider our Passport Sailing Club for unlimited rentals, clinics, races, cookouts & cruises! Members with ASA 101 are eligible to sail boats in our fleet 22′-25′.

ASA 103 Basic Coastal Cruising

After completing the Basic Keelboat 101 class and gaining some experience. You’re now ready to make the move up to larger cruising boats. You’ll add to your knowledge and experience covering subject matter like, big boat systems, docking, anchoring, advance sail trim and basic navigation all while having fun.

Passport Sailing Club Members with 103 Certification are eligible to sail all the boats in our fleet 22′-32′!

Asa 104 bareboat cruising.

Pre-Req: ASA 103 Basic Coastal Cruising

Prepare for a live-aboard Cruise in paradise! Have dreams of chartering around the world? This course will help take you there! You’ll become proficient and comfortable with diesel engines, electrical system, plumbing system, propane stoves, running rigging as well as more docking, anchoring, navigation and big boat chartering tips.

Passport Sailing Club Members with ASA 104 Certification (with LSA) are invited to hop onboard our Catalina ’42 and sail with one of our senior instructors off the Georgia Coast! A free 4-Day Trip!

Asa 105 coastal navigation.

Wherever your sailing takes you its important to be able to find your way safely! Our Coastal Navigation 105 Course is a 3 day course entirely in the LSA classroom and will enhance any sailing you do, no matter your level. This course will allow you to develop your competency in visual navigation, plot your course and establish your position, use a handbearing compass and more!

ASA 106 Advanced Coastal Cruising

Pre-Req: ASA 104 Bareboat Cruising & ASA 105 Coastal Navigation

About Captain Shawn

Lanier Premier Charters is a family owned charter boat business located on Lake Lanier in Georgia. Founded in 2022, our Captain has been setting the standard for boat charters on the lake ever since. He is a US Coast Guard certified OUPV, 25Ton Master Captain with over 17 Years of experience on both Lake Lanier and the ocean. Our Captain is also a retired firefighter and paramedic. With us, you can be sure that you are in the best of hands and your safety is our top priority.

Don and Carrie started Duckys Boat Rentals two years ago when they moved to north Georgia from Wisconsin. We are located just thirty minutes north of atlanta, georgia. lake lanier offers incredible views, excellent fishing, and great lakeside dining. there are several parks for picnicking, swimming, and local campgrounds for your r/v needs. lanier island resort and margaritaville is located minutes outside our entrance where you can enjoy many activities, like hiking, golfing, waterslides, and horseback riding. while you're here we recommend trying out all holiday marina has to offer: boat rentals at aqua sports adventures, boat and yacht sales at singelton marine, and great fresh food at the twist orr where there's sure to be live music almost every weekend holiday marina is your boat rental destination..

Great place to rent a boat from. Had an awesome time. The pontoon boat I rented for an afternoon was only one year old and in beautiful clean shape. It had an operational music radio. The staff were extremely helpful and nice and patient. They went over the map of Lake Lanier and offered a good tip to save our parking spot in Google maps to help us out on the water to find our way back in case there was some confusion. Thompson JT

We rented a pontoon boat for a full day on a Wednesday. Great experience all the way around. The check-in was easy and very well explained. The attendant Zack was very thorough in going over how to work the boat and inspecting the boat. The pontoon was very new and in excellent condition. Kicked off the Spring early this year with these guys. I have rented from them the past few seasons and they are always super helpful and friendly. You can't go wrong for a quick boating or jet ski run for the day. Austin and crew helped kick our boating season off to a huge success - all very professional and courteous. We rented a pontoon yesterday for a Girl Scout day out on the lake. In taxiing kids over to our campsite we lost the tube we rented. This morning we received a call letting us know they found the tube and would refund the fee to us. What a refreshing change it was to receive such kind and honest service.
