Enhancing the Memory Of Learners: Everything You Need to Know
Iss astronaut’s stunning time-lapse includes the milky way, kamala harris says trump ‘disrespected sacred ground’ just for a ‘political stunt’ at arlington national cemetery, timeseries indexing at scale, daily horoscope: september 2, 2024, how to watch the nfl online for free in the uk, how to unblock xhamster for free, price drop: get 1tb of cloud storage for life for just £53 in september, home learning schedules for young children: everything you need to know, why is the internet starting spooky season early, this semi-submersible powerboat ‘flies’ underwater.
It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s an underwater powerboat! That’s right, folks – enter the incredible world of semi-submersible powerboats that appear to defy gravity by ‘flying’ beneath the ocean’s surface. Combining sleek design, modern technology, and astounding hydrodynamics, this stunning innovation is primed to make a splash in the marine industry.
The Concept Unveiled
To understand the concept of a semi-submersible powerboat that glides underwater like an airplane, think of it as an aquatic hybrid vehicle. The pioneering design seamlessly marries the functionality and agility of both boats and submarines, allowing passengers to feel more connected with their surroundings without compromising comfort or safety.
Built for Speed and Performance
Traditional watercraft are challenged by drag caused by water resistance and hull waves as they move through the ocean. The semi-submersible powerboat challenges these limitations by dipping below the waterline while reaching staggering speeds. By utilizing hydrofoil technology, this craft lowers its hull into the water while maintaining speed and maneuverability. The result is breathtaking – think minimal wakes, a smoother ride, and almost unparalleled agility.
Bubble-Free Experience
One key concern of underwater craft is how vision can be obscured by constant turbulent bubbles streaming past windows. To address this issue, designers have equipped the boat with advanced bubble-free canopy technology. This development ensures complete clarity when peering through windows, providing uninterrupted panoramic views to those lucky enough to be on board.
Safety on Board
For those who worry about their security on an unconventional underwater vehicle, rest assured: manufacturers haven’t skimped on safety precautions. In addition to anti-corrosion materials being used for construction, essentials such as life jackets and first aid kits are readily available. Additionally, navigation systems used are state-of-the-art and reliable, significantly reducing the risk of any complications.
Environmental Impact
In an age defined by humanity’s growing consciousness, the semi-submersible powerboat recognizes its ecological responsibilities. This cutting-edge watercraft minimizes negative impacts on marine life by reducing prop wash, moderating speeds near sensitive marine habitats, and adhering to strict emissions standards. The goal is to ensure a smaller footprint on the ocean floor while transitioning into sustainable maritime practices.
The Next Wave of Adventure
This breakthrough in marine innovation is truly one for the history books. The semi-submersible powerboat that ‘flies’ underwater is not only a testament to human ingenuity, but it’s also a call to explore new ways of interacting with our planet’s oceans. As access to this technology expands and thrill-seekers around the world take notice, experiences on the open seas will never be the same again.

This All-Electric Hydrofoil Boat Lets You Fly Above the Waves
The Candela C8 looks like a regular powerboat. But when it gets up to speed, this futuristic leisure craft emerges from the water for a virtually silent ride.
- Webby Award Winner (Best Video Host, 2021), Webby Nominee (Podcasts, 2021), Gold Telly (Documentary Series, 2021), Silver Telly (Video Writing, 2021), W3 Award (Best Host, 2020), Australian IT Journalism Awards (Best Journalist, Best News Journalist 2017)
Swedish company Candela wants to totally rethink the world of luxury leisure boats. No fossil fuels, no noisy motors, no bouncing up and down on waves. In fact, when you get up to speed in the company's latest leisure boat, you're not sailing on the water at all -- you're flying above it.
The Candela C8 leisure boat looks like something you might see in a James Bond film. One moment, it's pushing through the water, the next, it emerges from the waves and seems to be floating on stilts. But this all-electric hydrofoil is actually designed to solve one of the major problems with power boats: energy efficiency.
"Conventional speedboats are actually some of the most energy-inefficient craft on the planet," says Candela communications manager Mikael Mahlberg over a Zoom call from Sweden. "A conventional planing hull uses 15 times as much fuel per kilometer as a family car."
The Candela C8 electric hydrofoil leisure boat.
But while making a powerboat all-electric might solve the problem of fossil fuel use, it still doesn't solve one of the issues of basic physics. Dragging the hull through the water creates a huge amount of friction, which in turn means an electric boat needs a lot of power to operate. As a result, Candela says even an electric boat with a large battery would be drained in as little as 30 minutes.
To solve this problem, Candela added a hydrofoil to its electric boat to lift the hull out of the waves. A hydrofoil works in the same way as the wing on an airplane: Just as air moving over the wing of the plane creates lift, water passing over the hydrofoil pushes the boat up and out of the water, cutting drag by about 80%. As a result, the C8 can cover the whole San Francisco Bay after a two-hour charge -- a range of roughly 50 miles.
It's not just the hydrofoil that makes this boat different from a regular powerboat. Candela also changed the design of its motor -- taking the traditional gas motor off the back of the boat and replacing it with a highly efficient direct-drive motor, known as the C-Pod, which sits below the hull and powers through the water like a torpedo.
"My God, it's so silent," Malhberg says. "You have the motor under the water, so there's no transmission noise at all, so it's just silence. It's like a magic carpet ride."
The C8 went on its maiden flight in Sweden in February, and the company is now taking preorders, starting at 290,000 euros excluding tax, or roughly $330,000. Boats can be customized with optional extras like a built-in sound system, radar or even a freshwater shower.
As for who needs their own electric hydrofoil? Candela is targeting the leisure boating market as well as environmentally conscious buyers. (Why not match the Tesla in your garage with an electric boat down at your dock?) And it may even pick up a few aviation enthusiasts.
"You don't feel the waves hitting the hull, it's silent and you're unaffected by the sea state, so it's a bit like merging flying and boating," says Mahlberg. "It's a very magical feeling."

This Teeny-Tiny Sub Carries Navy SEALs to Their Next Mission
The Dry Combat Submersible allows SEALs to infiltrate from underwater without breathing gear.
- U.S. Special Operations Command will soon test a new mini-submarine .
- The Dry Combat Submersible (DCS), will allow U.S. Navy SEALs to ride inside a warm submarine as they approach their target.
- DCS is an upgrade compared to traditional frogman subs, which require passengers and crew to wear a breathing apparatus and wetsuit.
U.S. Navy SEALs are getting a new underwater ride that could prove vital in this era of big-power warfare.
The Dry Combat Submersible (DCS) is a fully enclosed mini-sub designed to keep SEALs safe and warm as they travel to their objectives. The 30-ton sub can carry up to eight SEAL commandos for 24 hours or more.
➡ You love badass military vehicles. So do we. Let’s nerd out over them together.
Small, purpose-built mini-subs became popular in World War II as a means of transporting frogmen to conduct missions against enemy warships. The small subs are also used to send small teams of naval special forces to coastal objectives, allowing larger ships to stand off the coastline and remain out of sight.
Today, U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) operates the Mark IIIV SEAL Delivery Vehicle. The Mark VIII is a so-called “wet” submersible, meaning both passengers and crew must wear breathing apparatuses and wetsuits as the sub travels underwater. The lack of a pressurized hull makes the design simpler, but the need to wear protective gear can tire everyone onboard.
Enter the DCS, which is designed to overcome the problems of a “wet” sub...

Powerboat Adventure and Sculpture Park Snorkel
After being picked up at the cruise pier, you will be transferred to the boat for a perfect mix of sightseeing, snorkeling, and discovery with a nautical twist and fun.
The twin-engine 450 horsepower boat is fast, light, agile, and quite unlike anything else in Grenada, with no bashing through the seas like normal boats. The ride is amazingly dry, extremely smooth, and most importantly, fun! The unique seating offers a perfect view as you dash along the coast exploring the picturesque bays and coves. The professional, experienced crew will look after you as you uncover the real Grenada.
As you cruise into the bays, you will slow down and drift as your knowledgeable guides educate you on the rich history, culture, flora, and fauna. You will learn about the active underwater volcano, monkeys, armadillos, whales, dolphins, marlins, and leatherback turtles (some that can weigh as much as 200 pounds!). The diversity on and around Grenada is amazing, and you will learn all about it. You will also get the chance to snorkel the reef and get wet at the World's 1st Underwater Sculpture Park in the Marine Protected Area. This unique snorkel mixes marine life with amazing life-sized art which aims to create an artificial reef within an existing reef system. Whether you snorkeled yesterday, a few years ago, or have never done it before, your guides are there to help. The PADI certified staff provide a comprehensive briefing on how to snorkel before you go into the water, and a guide will be in the water with you at all the times to make sure you don't miss a thing. First-class equipment will be at your disposal, including masks, snorkels, fins, as well as snorkel vests and other flotation devices. There is a swim ladder to help you on and off the boat easily. Non-snorkelers are free to relax on board and hear more information about Grenada from the Captain while the others explore the water.
After a good blast back to St George's, you will learn more about the Capital voted the prettiest in the Caribbean. Not only will you learn about the buildings and the early explorers that settled from Europe, but you will hear a fascinating story about how a cruise ship burst into flames while anchored outside St. George's, sinking and leaving the island with the Titanic of the Caribbean. After an exciting day out in the sea and sun, your tour will end back at the cruise pier.
Sweden’s A-26 Submarine Creates New Possibilities For Seabed Warfare
Sweden's new a-26 blekinge class submarines have been designed with covert missions in mind. traditionally these would include special forces and intelligence gathering. now as the naval world pivots towards seabed warfare, the swedish submarine might find a new niche. one that the design is uniquely suited to..
H I Sutton 16 Nov 2022
The September 26 attack on the Nord Stream pipelines off Sweden and Denmark are a wake up call for western navies. Seabed warfare has been a bullet point in PowerPoints for the last 20 years, now it is getting real.
Sweden’s submarine force, and particularly the future A-26 Blekinge class , may be very relevant. And, fortunately for NATO, inherently well suited.
From Ivy Bells To Internet Cables
Seabed warfare is nothing new. Since the early days of submarines some missions have involved aspects of it. In World War Two British X-craft midget subs were used to cut Japanese communications cables. And it would be remiss not to mention Operation Ivy Bells, the U.S. Navy’s Cold War mission to tap Soviet communications. And Britain’s SBS used diesel subs to retrieve Soviet listening devices laid off the UK. During the 1980s it was the Swedes’ turn to play the game, with numerous suspected Soviet submarine incursions in their waters.
The seabed warfare focus back then was military infrastructure, such as anti-submarine sensor networks and communications cables. However things have changed since the Cold War. The amount of infrastructure laying on the sea floor had increased and now includes fiber optic internet cables. As you read this article there is a chance that the data has reached you by one of these ‘submarine communication cables’ (SCC).
Add to this the gas pipelines, wind farm infrastructure, electricity cables, and so much more. We are much more dependent on seabed infrastructure than before. The vital nature of these cables and pipes to economies is not lost on governments. But few countries are equipped to deal with the threat.
Going forward navies are expected to be able to defend, and in times of war attack, seabed infrastructure. Some, like Russia and the United States have decades of investment and specialist submarines. Other major navies, like the United Kingdom and France, are now reinvesting in this neglected area with specialist vessels.
On the defense front, governments will want the ability to inspect and repair underwater infrastructure and investigate incidents. Offensively, missions may include placing sabotage charges or listening devices, and interfering with enemy sensor networks. These needs overlap with mine warfare and mine countermeasures.
In many defensive scenarios surface vessels will be sufficient. Typically they will use remote operated vehicles (ROVs) to reach down into the depths. But submarines offer the advantages of greater discretion. And they can operate in bad weather which may inhibit surface vessel. In offensive missions the submarines’ stealth will come into its own. Having suitable submarines will give governments options that they may not currently have.
So, as in previous times when the missions of navies have evolved rapidly. Countries will look to their regular submarines to play a role. And few designs seem as well suited as Sweden’s.
What Makes The A-26 Submarine Particularly Suited
This is where the A-26 design may come into its own. It has been designed from the outset to better accommodate special forces missions, and underwater drones. These features, principally the large hangar between the torpedo tubes, may also be useful in seabed warfare.
Sweden is already ahead of the curve with the development of the Saab SubROV . This form of ROV can be launched and operated from a torpedo tube of any submarine. In more traditional terms it can perform intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR). It feeds high-resolution data back to the submarine in real time via a cable without the risk of signal detection. It can also be used to recover other underwater vehicles.
But it also gives the submarine the ability to perform some seabed warfare missions. It can locate and inspect pipes or cables. It could be used to inspect infrastructure down to 500 meters (1,640 feet), which is deep enough to reach anywhere in the Baltic.
But the new A-26 class will take things to another level. The hangar, known as a Flexible Payload Lock, allows it to carry larger underwater vehicles. These could include the Saab Double Eagle and Sabertooth systems. These can be operated both remotely (as an ROV) or autonomously without the tether. Large objects could carried and placed on the seabed with the aid of the ROV/AUV. Or recovered objects to be carried away. These underwater vehicles would increase the reach of the submarine. Some versions of the Sabertooth can dive to 3,000 meters (9,850 feet).
There is no doubt that seabed warfare has, briefly, moved out of the shadows. Navies and policy makers are more open about the threats to undersea infrastructure, and the need to defend it. But whether this will lead to changes to submarine procurement remains to be seen. But if it does, the A-26 design may find itself well positioned. And for Sweden, which already has them under construction, they will open up new possibilities.
