Endurance 37 is a seaworthy blue-water liveaboard yacht, built in South Africa's Thesens island boatyard & completed in Cape Town. She was built to do a crossing from Cape Town to Rio. She is currently afloat in the Aegean Sea (Greece). Same owner for 22 years with new mast and standing rigging, 3 coats of Allgrip paint, no osmosis, Yanmar 55hp, excellent woodwork of teak and yellow wood.

Endurance 37 with 2 cabins. An elegant blue water cruiser with its long bowsprit. Newer Yanmar 3cyl 36 hp engine. The entire standing rigging has been replaced in 2019. Sailing end is from North Sail and is in good condition. The teak deck needs some work, as there are some places that are missing plugs. On the leeward side, there are places that have not been finished. The bottom has been osmosis treated in 2022.

Broker Remarks

The Endurance 37 is equipped for cruising with numerous spares on board. Designed by Peter Ibold and built by Capistrano Yachts, launched Southampton 1982. She is 40'LOA including the bowsprit. GRP hull, deck and superstructure The deck is covered in tread master with teak fittings for toe rail and handrails. Long heavy duty bowsprit all stainless steel incorporating 2 stem head rollers for the forward anchors. Currently on her third owners she is only for sale due to a bereavement.

Accommodation

Teak hardwood interior with teak and holly flooring. Saloon with port and starboard settees both of which can be converted into double berths. Forward of saloon offset to starboard is a double berth cabin and then the forecabin with V berth. Port and starboard heads both with washbasins and a shower with sump pump out in the port heads. Galley with gas cooker, grill and oven, 2 coolboxes and 1 X 12v refrigerator, sink. All taps on board are fed with pressurised hot and cold water and the hot water is provided from a calorifier also fitted with an immersion heater when on shore power. Good locker storage throughout the accomodation. Webasto heating. New upholstery and headlining in 2005.

This particular example has been out of the water for some time and the current owner has been slowly refurbishing her, but due to a change in circumstances the owner is not able to complete the full refurbishment as intended. Below are details of some the work carried out by the owner and also a list of task required to complete her (as advised by the owner). Work already undertaken includes: All Internal furniture has been repaired / replaced along with new upholstery. All window seals replaced, saloon headlining replaced, plus some headlining in the cabin, cabin layout changed to double berth or seat with table, teak deck repaired where necessary, Stainless steel fuel tank repaired, but needs to be installed, all seacocks, engine, fridges, battery system and toilet have been checked over and all ok. Work still required: Some of the Electronicsto be reconnected, navigation table surround needs completing and electrics panel needs to be re installed, starboard salon locker needs finishing, saloon and heads plumbing needs completing, mast and rigging needs to be checked and installed etc. This Endurance 37 needs to be completed by someone with the vision required, so she can be back in the water where she belongs. I know that many are ferrocement but what are they like for longer distance work, sailability, living with on a day to day basis etc. Anyone got one? Pants or worth a look? Rob   37s would be GRP versions of the 35. Similar characteristics - behave like they look. Heavy, steady, lots of string as most are ketch. Perfect if you like long slow passages while wearing carpet slippers. Inevitably variable layouts and fitouts because most were at least part home completed.   Deleted member 36384 I have sailed on a Ferro Cement Endurance although I cant remember the LOA accurately. They were big and roomy, needed a blow to get them going. It operated as a skippered charter and she had 3 cabins down from the saloon. The storage space below the saloon was cevernous. The deck area was excellent for lounging on and made a good platform for guests to relax on too. I would not buy one as there are other boats that are similar and better. However, it was a useful yacht that was pleasant to sail on and nice and roomy. I know DeKleer yachts in Canada built some and a yard in France or Spain built some too and a few seem to have come out of South Africa. Incidentally, my grandfather plastered several ferro endurances during the 70's, one of which went on to sail to Australia. Just wondering if the design was generally bulletproof or any glaring weaknesses have come to light in the intervening years (apart from poor light wind performance).   BlueSkyNick Here's one in GRP   Windboats supplied hulls and any stage up to completion. 35s and 40s were offered and also many were home built from scratch. The trouble is the endurance design does not work well under 45ft, sitting in the cockpit there was no view ahead so the helmsman/lookout would have to stand. Below the accommodation was a bit cramped, as there is "nothing" under the cockpit, so IMHO a longer hull would be better.   15 Aug 2012 Endurance 37 We have owned one for 26 years and sailed some 31000nm, which includes crossing the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans and the Tasman Sea - very comfortable, large volume cruising boat that can withstand a good blow.
