KATLO - Catamaran Charter Grenada & Boat hire in Caribbean 2

Whether aboard a large luxury yacht charter with crew looking after your every need, or a bareboat charter sailing yacht, a catamaran charter Grenada will allow you to enjoy the best of the Windward Island chain.

Off the main hurricane track, the Spice Island of Grenada is becoming an increasingly popular eastern Caribbean yacht charter destination.

Port Louis Marina in the capital, St George is the main charter hub for the island. Close to Grand Anse Beach and its extensive promenade, this is an ideal place to begin your Grenada yacht charter. St George is a classic colonial town with a fort overlooking the harbour, and markets running through the week for you to get fresh victuals for your sailing holiday.

Other highlights of a visit to the main Spice Island is the underwater sculpture park that can be easily reached by boat, and you can go snorkeling or scuba diving here to fully appreciate it.

Away from St George there is are a number of other places from which to begin your catamaran charter Grenada such as True Blue Bay Marina and resort. True Blue Bay is one of those classic boltholes away from the hurley burley yet can be a lovely spot to set sail for other destinations on your charter holiday. You may also find your catamaran based at other south coast locations such as Prickly Bay.

So where else can you go on your Grenada yacht charter? Read on to find out more...

Other Islands Nearby

On your Grenada charter it is almost the law that you should go island hopping on your boat charter! With so much to enjoy, you'd miss much in not going to see another eastern Caribbean Windward Island or two!

Nearby Petit St Vincent and Petit Martinique have their own charms, and are worth a night ashore if you can. Both Petit St Vincent and Petite Martinique welcome visiting yachts, and there is plenty to entertain on these islands from a wander ashore to the beach bars.

Carriacou's Tyrrel Bay has a crescent shaped white sand beach that rivals any in the West Indies and underwater has a riot of marine life that is well worth enjoying with your dive kit or snorkel.

Union Island, with Clifton Harbour its 'capital' has one of the best beaches in the region in the form of Chatham Bay.

Before hitting Tobago Cay, do drop the hook off Saltwhistle Bay (a beach that strongly competes with Chatham Bay) on Mayreau where you will see excellent marine life, and will thoroughly enjoy an afternoon basking in and on the water.

After Salt Whistle Bay you should head to Tobago Cay, a St Vincent territory, is a small group of uninhabited islands but a major sailing destination thanks to their beauty and chance to dive and snorkel on their all but untouched coral reef. Do stay for an evening as the beach barbecues are legendary...

St Vincent itself is a few hours north of Grenada but has largely ignored by tourism except for those who enjoy a different culture with people living their own lives. You will find two major resorts here including Young Island just off the south coast. The rest of the island is more focused on agriculture, fishing and commerce.

North again you will hit St Lucia and the northern Windward Islands - the north coast is the place to be with places like Gros Islet and Rodney bay.

Admiralty Bay on Bequia - a large, well protected anchorage used for hundreds of years is another great place to drop the hook.

There is a lot to take in, in choosing a Grenada catamaran charter with Borrow a Boat! Why not visit time and again to enjoy different parts?

Luxury Catamaran Charter Grenada

A luxury yacht charter is one of the best ways to enjoy a Grenada charter holiday. With an often large vessel just for you and your fellow charter guests' use, on a crewed yacht charter the skipper and crew will look after your every need afloat. They will look after the tender as you venture ashore on islands like Union Island and Tobago Cay, and perhaps make suggestions as to the best spots to enjoy a first class meal or activity of your choice.

On a bareboat charter catamaran charter you will have the space and added privacy to get the luxury yacht from A-B at your own pace.

Grenada Catamaran Charter Types

Though you will often have to have a sailing license for a larger vessel, a bareboat yacht charter will give you complete freedom and privacy to do what you want. Unlike a monohull sailing yacht, a catamaran charter yacht will often come with en suite heads in all the cabins, an AC generator and all the comforts of home as you captain your own ship.

A skippered catamaran charter can range from a 46ft+ catamaran. The skipper aboard will look after the sailing and make suggestions as to your next destinations, with you playing as much or as little a role in getting from A-B as you want. It is customary to pay a tip at the end of the trip, on top of the $100-$150 a day fee for the skipper you pay as well as the basic charter fee.

A crewed catamaran charter could mean a 60ft yacht with skipper and crew, but could also mean a superyacht or crewed yacht charter with a team of people looking after your every need. As well as sailing the vessel up the Leeward Islands or Windward Islands, they will cook, look after the housekeeping and water toys, and provide you with the service you expect at the top end of yacht charter holiday experiences.

Catamaran Types in Grenada

Sailing Catamaran

Ranging from a 40ft yacht to much, much larger, this will be enjoyable to sail (particularly with the wind aft of the beam) and unlike a monohull sailboat will often have en suite heads in all the staterooms. You will have plenty of entertainment space aboard and even the smaller vessels will have room for water toys such as paddleboards and kite surfing gear or even diving gear and jet skis. If the windage of the catamaran sailing boat gets too much, powerful twin engines will be able to get you upwind to your next destination too!

Motor Catamaran

Ranging from 46ft to over 100ft LOA, you can charter a luxury motor yacht catamaran with crew or bareboat. Thanks to the wider beam they are more stable than a monohull motor yacht (no one going green at sea unless too much drink was involved!) and much faster. This could allow for longer legs, perhaps between the party centre of St George and a relaxed anchorage like Admiralty Bay .

What can you do on a Catamaran charter in Grenada?

There are three broad types of sailing holiday to be had in Grenada - family, outdoor or party.

Partying can mean stays in fashionable spots like Rodney Bay on St Lucia or the exclusive bolthole of Mustique, or it can mean something a little crazier at a beach bar with lots of rum punch!

Family holidays are the bread and butter of the Caribbean Island economy. You can relax in great places like Grand Anse Beach or True Blue Bay Marina on your catamaran yacht charter vacation.

Active holidays are increasingly popular here too. The Pitons beckon the mountain biker or hiker on St Lucia. Snorkeling and diving are great in several locations, such as Salt Whistle Bay on Mayreau. Saint Vincent is is great for exploring the inland jewels as are Tobago Cay for its beautiful reefs and Pigeon Island is a great place to escape the buzz of life ashore.

What does an average day on a Grenada Yacht charter look like?

A catamaran charter boat charter on Grenada can mean a variety of things to different people. The sailing is reliably excellent so a blast at sea every day will be a core part of the fun.

For the family or older ones, you can sail between hidden coves and quiet sandy beaches, while visiting fishing villages and quieter resorts.

You will want to sail for several hours a day - with the near perfect sailing conditions this is unmissable. Watching the marine life and tropical fish from the windward rail on a beam reach as the catamaran bounds across the sea will be an unforgettable experience.

Resorts such as Young Island on Saint Vincent and those on smaller islands in the Windward Islands can be alcohol fuelled or completely relaxed as you choose - with or without the kids in tow!

As such your typical day could be a mix of things, from an early start to blast off to the next island to waking up at lunchtime feeling a little green around the gills and thanking your crew for getting you back aboard. The choice is down to you.

Why Grenada is superb for a Catamaran Charter

From its fashionable resorts, to jaw dropping scenery and perfect temperatures, a Grenada catamaran charter holiday is something that cannot be missed. You can party the night away at one of the world renowned beach bars, chill on an almost empty beach and enjoy the world-class sailing to be had. A Grenada yacht charter is one of those sailing holidays you will never forget!

Do You Need A Licence To Charter A Catamaran In Grenada?

If you are on a skippered or crewed catamaran charter you do not need a license to sail on the Caribbean Sea - you can just turn up at the marina and go.

You do need a license if you are on a bareboat catamaran charter and in some countries a Day Skipper or ICC may not be enough for boats over 45 feet in length, you will need to check with the charter agent but here are some examples of typical sailing qualifications that will allow you to charter in most countries:

International Certificate of Competence: This is issued on request by your European sailing authority and you should automatically qualify with certain national sailing qualifications.

RYA Qualifications: If you have the following qualifications you will typically be able to take a bareboat charter out of Rhodes (but it is worth checking as per above), these include Day Skipper (sail or motor endorsement), Coastal Skipper or Yachtmaster.

American Sailing Association (ASA): The ASA 104 Bareboat certificate is commonly accepted but also check as per above

US Sailing : The International Proficiency Certificate is widely accepted and The Bareboat Cruising Certificate is also accepted in many cases.

Best Time to Book Your Grenada Catamaran Charter

Unlike Europe, the sailing season in the Caribbean runs from November to May - perfect for a dose of winter sun. The NE Trades are settled and you will encounter weather between 25-35 degrees C.

Within this period, March and April after the winter northerlies have passed are cooler yet the sailing is just as fun as the rest of the year. Grenada is after all a tropical country!

For those who want to try something a little outside their comfort zone, August and September are said to be the very best sailing months of all. Grenada being to the south of the main hurricane track, this does mean a summer Grenada charter is feasible.

There's a problem with this - many yacht charter fleets will not be in the area thanks to hurricane season that runs between July and October. If booked and a hurricane is on its way your holiday will be cancelled.

Though Grenada generally misses hurricanes that tear up islands as far north as the British Virgin Islands and beyond, it isn't completely immune. If planning a week or two in the area, keep a close eye on the forecast as that will inform your decision.

The Climate

North East Trade Winds : Similar to those of the Canary Islands these are regular and can get up to F6 at times, but steady and predictable.

May to November is hurricane season, and while the sailing can be fun it can be dangerous. With climate change as it is, hurricanes have increased in ferocity and frequency, and it really isn't worth the risk.

Why choose a weekly Grenada boat rental?

You may be wondering why you should rent a boat for the week in the Caribbean. But with all of the gorgeous beaches, hidden gems, island destinations, and amazing things to see and do all around this area, you will need at least a week to accomplish everything on your vacation bucket list.

Sailo offers weekly Grenada yacht rentals that allow you enough time to explore the islands and the surrounding area (and trust us, you won’t want your tropical vacation to end!). For some of our weekly charters you also have the option to reserve for free your boat for free.

For the first 24 hours after reserving your boat, you can modify the reservation or cancel if it isn’t the right fit for your vacation plans all without needing to enter your credit card information. This flexibility helps ensure that you find the perfect boat rental for a Grenada sailing trip with your family or friends.

As always, we recommend taking the time to chat with the boat representative to get some tips for exploring this yachting paradise. The boat representative can give you suggestions for the can’t-miss spots when visiting the Caribbean and even help you plan out your week long trip, especially if you are renting a boat with a skipper or captain.

Grenada sailing one-week itinerary

Start off your week at Port Louis Marina and set course for north to Dragon Bay. Here, you can try diving and snorkeling among gorgeous sea life since this is a protected marine area, or just relax on the boat or on the beautiful beach.

Next, head to Tyrell Bay on Carriacou. Carriacou is known for having some of the most stunning beaches in the Caribbean. This area is also home to an abundance of sea life from moray eels to sharks and turtles, so there’s never a dull moment when you’re exploring the waters. There are also plenty of great places to stop and have a local meal.

Over the next few days, make your way around this beautiful area of the Caribbean, including stops at Whistle Bay to eat delicious lobster, the Tobago Cays to see those famous wild iguanas, Sandy Island to see the most picturesque place for an island getaway, and St. George for amazing places to go exploring on land (like waterfalls and hiking trails).

Once you finally make your way back to return your boat rental from Grernada, we recommend taking some time to explore this fantastic area by land to truly get a feel for island life. Dine on some local grub, explore the day and night life, and catch the sunset or sunrise -- you won’t be disappointed.

Yacht Charter in Grenada

Cinque Mare by Ferretti - Top rates for a Charter of a private Motor Yacht in Grenada

Grenada yacht charter

If you've been to the Virgin Islands or the Bahamas, then it's time you go further into the Caribbean Sea and visit Grenada, dubbed as Spice Island for its abundance of nutmeg and mace plantations. Whether you're looking for a peaceful cove, a secluded beach, or a vibrant night in town, Grenada won't disappoint. The island offers blue turquoise waters, coral reefs to explore, and adventurous activities like island hopping, scuba diving, and kitesurfing. Its waters are a favorite among the sailing elite, with two sailing festivals each year held on its shores, namely the Grenada Sailing Festival Work Boat Regatta, and the Island Water World Sailing Week.

Why charter a yacht in Grenada?

With the perfect mix of Caribbean and European cultures, Grenada offers a unique identity that offers a world of senses to every visitor who steps into its shores. The smell of nutmegs, cloves, cinnamon, and mace fill the plantations, and a world of shopping, dining, music, and history fill the villages and towns on St George, the capital. But beyond the waterfront is the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic, offering a world of natural scenery, hidden beaches, and underwater life teeming with colorful fish and marine life. With an abundance of itineraries, from a full day yacht charter to a full-week hopping from one destination to another, Grenada offers a Caribbean vacation that you'll remember for the rest of your life. To charter a yacht on this island is a no-brainer; you simply have to do it to experience the true beauty of this sovereign state.

What are yacht charter prices in Grenada?

Take your pick from a monohull, motor yacht, a catamaran, or a superyacht. Whatever kind of boat that suits your fancy, you'll find it on the island. A 45-foot motor yacht with 4 cabins good for 6 people on board can cost around $12,200 for 7 nights; while an 82-foot sailing catamaran with 3 cabins can cost around $26,000 for 7 nights. If you opt for a superyacht, a 154-foot, 5-cabin superyacht can cost around $250,000 per week in Grenada.

When is the yachting season in Grenada?

Grenada has a tropical climate, governed by two seasons: a dry and a wet season. The wet season is from June to November, while the dry season is from December to May, making these months the ideal yachting season in the island.

Grenada yacht charter for a day

A full day yacht charter in Grenada can take you from the island to its pretty sister island, Carriacou. Start your day at Grand Anse Beach, the most popular and most beautiful beach on Grenada, and rated as one of the best in the world. Grand Anse Beach is considered to be the quintessential Caribbean beach, with perfectly soft white sands, and the most beautiful hues of blue you can ever imagine. Though the shoreline is peppered with resorts and hotels, the beach itself is pretty spectacular and a must-visit for any Grenada itinerary. After an hour at Grand Anse Beach, cruise your way to Carriacou and visit Paradise Beach, with its lovely stretch of white sand and clear shallow waters perfect for swimming. Have a BBQ on the beach, swim, snorkel, and before sunset, head back to your yacht and cruise back to Grenada as the sun sets on the horizon.

Grenada yacht charter overnight

An overnight yacht charter allows you to spend more time at a destination, as well as experiencing sleeping on a yacht and waking up to the most beautiful Caribbean sunrise you can ever have. You can start your cruise from the Port Louis Marina, then head your way to Dragon Bay, where a sculpture park is found underwater. This unique underwater park is eerily beautiful, and a definite must if you're into diving.

Head your way to Tyrell Bay in Carriacou by mid-afternoon, explore the town, and moor on the bay for the night. In the morning, make your way to Paradise Beach, then a trip to Anse la Roche, a secluded and idyllic stretch of soft sand beach protected by cliffs. Make your way back to Grenada by midday and arrive on the island by sunset.

Grenada yacht charter for a week

For the ultimate Grenada holiday, a one-week yacht charter is truly the best way to take advantage of this Caribbean island. Here is a sample itinerary that can fill your Caribbean holiday with adventure and tranquility:

Day 1: St. George to Carriacou

A yacht charter in Grenada must always start with a visit to the world-famous Grand Anse Beach. After an hour or two on this beach, it's time to buckle up and cruise your way to the island of Carriacou, specifically on Tyrell Bay, where you'll arrive by afternoon. Explore the waterfront, enjoy some rum, buy some supplies, and watch the sunset before enjoying a gourmet dinner on the deck.

Day 2: Sandy Island

This is the best snorkeling spot in Carriacou and it's a small island likened to a sandbar. Enjoy a day here before making your way to Saltwhistle Bay in Mayreau.

Day 3: Mayreau

Wake up in Mayreau and hike to the hilltop town of Old Wall, where you will be rewarded with spectacular views. Get back to Saltwhistle Bay, where you can have a BBQ on the beach, and enjoy swimming or kayaking before the sun sets for the day.

Day 4: Union Island

Part of St. Vincent, Union Island features a beautiful town, perfect for hiking, exploring, and spending time on the bay.

Day 5: Tobago Cays

There are 5 deserted islands here, and each worthy of exploration. Snorkel, scuba dive, and explore these small islands.

Day 6: Petit Martinique

Grenda's northernmost island, visit the areas of Fota and Petite Dominique, where snorkeling spots are ideal, and the inland is perfect for exploration on foot. You can also visit Mopion, which is considered to be the smallest island in the world with a structure.

Day 7: Prickly Bay and Grenada

Visit Prickly Bay to witness one of the best anchorages in the Caribbean. A favorite among sailors and yacht enthusiasts, the waterfront features bars, shops, and plenty to explore. By lunchtime, head back to the boat and make your way back to St. George.

Wedding yacht charter in Grenada

You can have a wedding at a grand ballroom in a hotel in any city in the world. You can also have a garden wedding anywhere. But if you want a unique wedding ceremony, a wedding yacht charter in Grenada is something else. You don't have to spend on decor and a grand ballroom, as the beautiful beaches, wide horizon, or a secluded cove provides you with natural backdrops that are truly enchanting. Have your guests enjoy a yacht charter for a wedding, where you can exchange vows in the middle of the ocean, and finish up the day with a romantic sunset cruise.

Luxury yacht holiday in Grenada

Supersize the possibilities of your Caribbean vacation by chartering a superyacht that provides you with an experience unlike any other. Get pampered by a VIP crew, indulge yourself in luxurious amenities, and of course, get to explore rugged coastlines, hidden coves, and secluded beaches, while ending the day in an airconditioned, luxurious cabin. There's truly nothing more luxurious than a yacht holiday onboard a luxury yacht in Grenada.

A yacht charter in Grenada opens your world to history, islands that are a world away from modern development, and a laid back culture that perfectly blends Caribbean and European sensibilities. A holiday on Grenada or Carriacou simply won't do, but a holiday exploring the beaches, waterfront towns and hidden gems onboard a yacht charter will surely capture the true essence of this group of islands in the West Indies.
