I found a boat being brokered by Babylon on Yacht World. After negotiating a price I sent Spencer a deposit for 10% of the cost of the boat via overnight check. I then worked on getting the boat set for a surveyor- at that point I found out that he had never seen the boat nor did he know where it was. It's worth noting he described the boat as a "9" but little did I know he never even saw it. I have him 2 more days to locate the boat- and when he couldn't - I stopped the check at the bank and contacted him. At that point he told me he may know where it was- but then said he didn't know; just that it was "on a farm". I told him that if he found the boat to call me. It was over a week later when I heard back from him and at that point I had bought another boat. He then proceeded to tell me he doesn't sell "ghost boats" and to never try and buy a boat from him again. I was shocked at this transaction and thankfully had another broker guiding me along the way or I am convinced I would have lost the deposit like the other yelp reviewer. I have emails to support everything. I don't know if this guy is a crook or not, but that experience isn't something someone should deal with.

My reply to yours: Spencer, once again you can't seam to tell the truth! I totally agreed to the no survey clause like you requested. You said thank you see you tomorrow morning at 10 am sorry for the confusion. Then you called me two hours later and said you wanted to show the boat to someone else well after you had a purchase agreement for full asking. Then you said you didn't want a bidding war but that seams to me exactly what you were setting up. Once again your truthfulness is limited. Your a poor business man and your words means nothing obviously by your previous post. I love the new five star review after your scathing review was posted on The Hull Truth.....something smells very fishy here.

Kent, I am truly sorry for anything that you feel went wrong. There are two sides to every story. The fact of the matter is this Buyer wanted to go to contract on the standard terms which includes a sea trial and survey. This Seller rejected the contract as he would only sell the boat with a sea trial only, no survey - so there was no contract in place. When the Seller rejects a deal, we must abide by his/her decision. Another buyer stepped up and was willing to accept the Seller's terms for a sea trial only and bought the boat on that basis. I am sorry for the confusion and had the first buyer been willing to buy the boat without a survey he would have been able to buy the boat. This situation is rare and unique because most boats sell subject to sea trial and survey. As a Broker that represents both buyers and sellers it is sometimes difficult, if not impossible, to satisfy everyone. However, if you go to our website and look at the thank you letters from buyers and sellers, we represent them all honestly. Again, we are sorry this happened. Hi all, So I have never dealt with such an unprofessional person in the marine industry before. Spencer Fuchs from Babylon Boat and Yacht sales listed a boat for sale several weeks ago. I contacted him and he told me about the boat and set up a preliminary viewing for me as I am only about 30 mins away. I went to look at the boat on the hard and liked it. I contacted Spencer that afternoon to ask him what the next step was and was told that it will be launched shortly for a sea trial. He said he would call me as soon as he knows something. Two week later he called my office this past Tuesday morning and I returned his call when I returned Tuesday afternoon. I was informed that the boat is in the water and ready for sea trial. I told him that I would stop back down Thursday afternoon. I went back Thursday afternoon and spoke to Spencer where upon he told me that there are several others that have expressed an interest in the boat. If I were truly interested I would need to sigh a contract and give him a deposit. I agreed and he sent over the contract Thursday early evening. Upon receiving the contract for full asking price pending sea trial and survey I signed it and returned it right away. Our agreement was that on Saturday morning I will bring him the deposit and do the sea trial then, being he was about an hour away. This morning as I was walking into a meeting he called me and said that I need to help him. He wanted me to wire him some money for the deposit instead of giving him a certified check tomorrow morning as agreed. I told him that I could not do that because I was in meetings all day and that I had already gone to the bank and got a certified check for him. He said ok I will see you tomorrow at 10 we like discussed. Then about two hours later he called me again and said the seller will not sign the contract because he does not want it to be contingent on a survey only seal trial. I told him I was ok with that because I had already gone threw the boat pretty well. Please remove the line about a survey and just keep the sea trial in and have him sign it. Spencer said ok see you tomorrow. Then about 2 hours after that Spencer called me again and said that he had spoken to someone else a few days ago and that person had wanted to come and look at the boat Saturday morning. I asked Spencer what does that have to do with me we have a contract on the boat. His reply was that he didnt want to start a bidding war for the boat and feels that he should cancel the contract and allow this other fellow to look at the boat. I asked him if he were kidding we have been speaking for over 3 weeks and i looked at it first and gave you a contract on it. All he said was sorry for the confusion. I really dont want to type my response!!

Spencer at Babylon Boat & Yacht Sales has sold 2 boats for us. The first was a 26 ft SeaRay Sundancer which we owned and loved for 10 years. Spencer sold it within a few weeks for more money than we paid originally! The second was our 33 Tiara. He listed it and had it sold in 10 days at a 30% profit! If you have a boat to sell he is the man to do it. Spencer is Honest, funny and he really knows the market!

So, not only did I create their yelp page but I am going to give a recap of a horrible transaction which took place. I was searching to purchase a new boat. I found one that fit my needs and it was being Brokered by this company. I contacted them and made an appointment to see the boat however they wanted a deposit before hand and the boat was located 90 minutes from my home. I gave them a 10% deposit on a negotiated price of $30,500.00. Check for $3050.00 cleared immediately since they use the same bank as me. 4 days later I was finally able to see the boat and had a complete survey done at my expense. Boat passed with flying colors, no issues there. I was very happy with the actual boat, but not with what took place next. The owner of the brokerage, Spencer Fuchs in his 80's was not only rude but very demanding. Demanded payment in full on the boat and demanded me to pay him the NY State Sales Tax. Now here in NYS only 3 people are allowed to collect sales tax on a vehicle or boat transaction. Boat Dealers, DMV and the NYS Dept of Taxation & Finance. I know this because I have been a NYS Car dealer for many years. He argued with me until the 'cows came home.' Finally he agreed to allow me to register the boat myself at DMV and say the sales tax. Next hurdle was payment for the boat. I transferred the money directly to his bank account $27,450.00 without fail on a Wednesday. They called the Seller and had him fedex the title. What happens next, the title arrives at the brokers home but he did not hear the doorbell. So it went back to the FedEx depot. They refused to go to fedex to get the title on a Friday. I then went out of my way and retrieved the package myself. Fedex checked my drivers license and gave me the package. Immediately I notified the broker so he would not be concerned. Well this guy Spencer Fuchs - MR RUDE was carrying on that I committed a crime. I actually did their job for them and he should have thanked me. Next they agreed to give me the boat on Saturday and I would register the boat Monday and give him my check to hold onto and he would destroy it on Monday when i prove I paid the sales tax at DMV. I took an Uber to his home and when I arrived this old geezer refused to release the boat, I had to then take an Uber back home. This is when i realized that the seller signed the title in the wrong place. They lied to me about the seller not being available and just kept lying the entire time. Telling me the sellers wife was sick, yet it wasn't the wife it was the seller and this old buzzard didn't even know who he was talking to - it was a man dummy! I took it upon my self to resolve this by calling the seller direct and arranging to see him in NY City to have him sign the title in the proper location and he was a complete gentleman and wanted to rectify this and stated multiple times that Spencer wouldn't stop harassing him. I then had him call Spencer to prepare a BANK Check on Sunday and I would pick it up and meet the Seller with the check in Sag Harbor, NY to pay him which took place the next day. Monday came and I picked up the boat and just brought it back 4 hours later. The owner of the brokerage Spencer Fuchs was trying to scam the sales tax from me and pocket extra money. He lied about the seller not being available multiple times. He also tried to steal an extra $3,000 in cash from me and finally DID ABSOLUTELY nothing to facilitate this sale. NOTE TO ALL - DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS THIEF!!! I can further prove he has issues - public record shows a LIEN from a family member for $105,000 that he owes them, so if a family member has a judgment against you for that kind of money - you are SHADY !!! I protected myself because I am a savvy business man when it comes to purchasing boats and vehicles, don't fall prey to his deceptive business practices. I will be following up with Dept of Consumer affairs and the BBB. He screwed with the wrong guy - on top of all this he earned $3050.00 for doing NOTHING - I made this happen, I drove over 400 miles to make this happen and spent a TON of money!

Spencer is very knowledgeable, and goes above and beyond of what is the norm for a typical broker. Every aspect of my yacht purchase was handled promptly and efficiently. These people are pleasant, competent, and know what service is all about. If I could rate them higher than 5 stars I would!

I am pleased to post this glowing review of Babylon Boat & Yacht Sales and Spencer Fuchs. I have bought and sold at least three boats using Spencer not only as my selling broker but also as a buyer's broker. The boats have ranged from a 29 Luhrs to a 43 Hatteras to a 56 Hatteras. All transactions, purchases and sales, went smoothly without any hint of a problem either in the representations made by Spencer or in his follow through. I found him to be trustworthy, courteous and quite knowledgeable. In fact, I am still in touch with Spencer despite not being in the market. I have read the review posted from 2016 and respectfully suggest that the poster must have had (or still has) an axe to grind. When I sell my current boat, I will use Spencer as my broker and I will go out of my way to try to buy from Spencer when looking for my next boat to own. I am a Master Captain and a boater for over 40 years. I have seen brokers come and go. Spencer is the cream of the crop.

The Atlantic Ocean is its southern border; the Town of Huntington is to the north, Nassau County borders on the west, and the Town of Islip is on the east. The Long Island Railroad Babylon Branch terminates in the Village of Babylon and the Montauk Branch continues eastward across the Babylon-Islip Townline. The Town of Babylon includes four State Parks; Captree State Park, Robert Moses State Park, Gilgo State Park and Belmont Lake State Park, along with Cedar, Oak and Overlook Beaches.

As part of agricultural Huntington in the 1700s, farmers in the northern area would come down to harvest the plentiful “salt” hay for their cattle and would stay at local inns and taverns that were built to accommodate them and travelers on their way further east to the Hamptons. By 1800, it was a busy place. The Great South Bay provided the settlers with abundant fish—flounder, bluefish and shellfish for food and income. In 1710, Captain Jacob Conklin built the first home in what is now modern Wheatley Heights. Captain Conklin sailed with the well-known local pirate, Captain Kidd, though it may not have been by choice. Either way, he was able to get away, purchase property, settle and raise a family. Conklin’s grandson, Nathaniel Conklin built a home for his mother in a nearby town that was across from a tavern; she complained that it was like living in the Biblical Babylon! Nat Conklin had a stone tablet with the name New Babylon and dated 1803 placed in the chimney, and the name stuck.

It became officially recognized by the Federal government who changed the Post Office from South Huntington to Babylon in 1830. The 1803 Conklin house is listing on the National Registry of Historical Places. Land ownership disputes over a road building project led to separation from the Town of Huntington in 1872 and South Huntington officially became the Town of Babylon. The Long Island Railroad brought population growth initially in 1842, and again in 1867 with the Babylon Branch that brought summer visitors from New York City, making it a popular resort town with many hotels to accommodate them, such as the 350-room Argyle Hotel (no longer extant) on Lake Argyle. A trolley ran from the railroad depot to the steamship dock for ferries to the beautiful barrier island beaches.

After the turn of the 20th century, the automobile also had a major impact on population growth and as the town expanded, villages were added. Veterans returning from WWII, fueled further growth as the area was an easy commuting distance from NYC and a nice place to raise a family. Today the Town of Babylon is the most densely populated town in Suffolk County. A vintage ambience has been preserved in the downtown shopping, restaurant and business districts of the villages and hamlets that comprise Babylon, with restored homes, preserved historical buildings and other artifacts providing a connection to the past for today’s residents and visitors. Argyle (Lake) Park at the west end of the Village of Babylon was formed by a dam across Carll’s River in late 1800s. It is a popular spot for weddings and photo opportunities.

The area around the lake is replete with monuments, memorial and historical markers. The Argyle Hotel was once home to America’s first black professional baseball team in 1885; they were so talented, a New Jersey promoter sent them on the road, as the “Cuban Giants” to become the “Harlem Globetrotters” of their day. Lake Argyle is fished in Spring and Fall for native species such as yellow perch and largemouth bass and stocked species—brown and rainbow trout.

For visiting boaters during summer boating season, a few of the area’s marinas are described below. It is highly recommended to make dockage arrangements well in advance of a planned visit. Membership in a recognized Yacht Club is an advantage as many Yacht Clubs offer reciprocity to visiting yachtsmen needing dockage.

The Anchorage Marina and Yacht Club Condo offers slips for rent or purchase. Club amenities include a pool and tennis courts, poolside or dockside parties. The full-service marina features haul-out service, a fuel dock, pump-out service, parking 10’ from boat, BBQ and picnic table behind boat slip, facilities and 24-hour security.

Babylon Marina, in operation for over 40 years, is a full-service marina located on Carll’s River just 3 miles from Fire Island Inlet. The marina features a pump-out station, wet/dry storage, ships store and 15 & 40-ton lifts. Summer slips include water, electrical power is available, pump-out system and shrink wrapping for winter.

Bergen Point Yacht Basin, founded in 1979, is a full-service marina with summer and winter shrink wrap storage. Vessels 17’ to 47’ accommodated in 100 slips with electric power and water, plus 30 rack storage spaces. The marina features a 35-ton travel lift, fiberglass repair service and much more. The Long Island Yacht Club, located in the heart of Babylon, was founded in 1958 by a group of 8 sailing buddies that included Bob Keeshan (TV’s Capt. Kangaroo) as a private club. Members can enjoy summertime socializing with family and friends, swimming, tennis, sailing and dining and more.

The Yacht Club features clubhouse, pool, tennis courts, entertainment patio, private beach and marina, formal and informal dining and bar. The marina with deep-water access on the Great South Bay is within easy distance of Fire Island and area fishing grounds. It features 74 slips fully equipped with water, electric power, wi-fi and bath house in a protected marina. Members only; visiting yachtsmen should check for reciprocity.
