Speak to your Y.CO Broker who will advise on pricing, offering market comparisons and analysis reports. They will also arrange sea trials and inspections, supported by Y.CO's technical team. Your Y.CO Broker will collect documents and collaborate with all parties for agreement completion.

Can I View the Yacht Before I Purchase?

Yes - in fact it is highly recommended to view as many yachts as possible during the purchase process. Your Y.CO Broker will assist in creating a shortist of yachts, organise private visits, accompany you on board and will help you ask the right questions.

What Happens after Offer Acceptance?

After acceptance of the offer, a sea trial and haul out will be arranged on your behalf. This allows your Y.CO broker, our technical experts and an independent yacht surveyor to verify that all the systems on board the vessel perform as specified.

Despite a general cooling off in the collector car market, a few recent sales have bucked that trend in a surprising way. And it’s hard to say if they’re genuine outliers, too: each example below has a certain quality or characteristic that can help explain its sale price, but some make more sense than others. To wit, a Ferrari that just a few years ago seemed like any garden variety mid-engined exotic sold for nearly half a million dollars.

For this case, we can thank the surge of demand for cars with manual transmissions , but comparable examples over the past year have sold for much less. An unloved but low-production 911 from the ’80s just went for over $300,000. A Mercedes 280 SL for more than $200,000. And a build slot, an opportunity to buy an HWA EVO , not even a physical car, went for almost twice the car’s starting price.

1988 Porsche 911 Carrera Club Sport

It wasn’t so long ago when late ’80s 911s were out of fashion with values that reflect that. They were even arguably cheap. The 911 Carrera Club Sport , however, is a different story, and for good reason. Produced in limited quantities between 1987 and 1989 — 340 total worldwide, with only 28 units sold in the US — the Club Sport was developed to appeal to drivers who favored lightweight and performance beyond what the standard Carrera offered. As such, the Club Sport weighed around 155 pounds less than the standard car, thanks to the removal of air conditioning, sunroof, sound-deadening material, rear seats, power windows, and even reduced underbody sealer. For the US market, Carrera Club Sports were equipped with a 3.2-liter air-cooled flat-six whose output was identical to the standard car (214 horsepower), but featured hollow intake valves and revised DME (Digital Motor Electronics) that raised the RPM limit from 6,250 to 6,840 rpm. The Getrag G50 transmission was outfitted with a short throw and revised ratio that helped knock half a second off the sprint to 60 compared to the standard car. A limited-slip differential also came standard.

This beautifully presented example from 1988 retains its original paint in Grand Prix White and has clocked a criminally low 15k miles over 36 years—that’s just over 400 miles a year. It’s also a two-owner car that’s shockingly original, the only modification being a catalytic converter bypass pipe that’s easily removable and impermanent. Though the Club Sport doesn’t exactly scream exotic, its low production volume and special factory touches sent this example’s value soaring to the tune of more than $300,000 . Late ’80s 911s are uncool no longer.

2009 Ferrari F430

Launched in 2004, the Ferrari F430 borrowed from a familiar playbook by the Italian automaker: mid-engine, flat-plane crank V8, rear-wheel drive, and the choice of a manual or automated manual gearbox. With the exception of the transmission choice, Ferrari has successfully followed this recipe since 1975. After all, if it ain’t broke… Making nearly 485 horsepower from a 4.3-liter naturally aspirated V8, the F430 hit 60 mph in the mid-three second range and sold well with total production estimated to be just above 15,000 units. But by the time Ferrari released the F430, many manufacturers were focused on outright speed and less on driver engagement. There was an industry-wide obsession with Nürburgring lap times and 0-60 figures, which meant manual transmissions began falling out of favor—even the early flappy paddle gearboxes fired off faster shifts than what was humanly possible. As such, Ferrari and other OEMs began to gradually phase out models with manuals, with Ferrari ending production of manual-equipped cars in 2010.

This 2009 F430 narrowly escaped the clutches of Ferrari’s focus on ultimate speed and is one of an estimated 1,500 units to feature a good ‘ole six-speed manual. A glorious gated six-speed manual to be exact. In what might be a record price for an F430, this classically specced 2009 model—Rosso Corso over beige leather—with 7k miles on the clock sold, in a multiple of its namesake, for $430,000 .

1971 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL

The grace, class, and elegance of the Mercedes-Benz 280 SL simply cannot be overstated. Its design has withstood the test of time, firmly cementing itself in the pantheon of the finest automotive styling. Produced between 1967 and 1971, the 280 SL (internal code W113) was a development of the outgoing 230 SL and 250 SL, which were created to strike a harmonious balance between sportiness and comfort. Despite being the ultimate representation of the W113 SL, the 280 only developed 158 horsepower in US market models from a 2.8-liter naturally aspirated inline-six, and most featured four-speed automatic transmissions. So much for sporty, but the looks more than made up for it. Due to the shape of the hardtop—a slightly concave design—the W113 was given the nickname “pagoda.”

Made in the final year of production, this recently restored 1971 280 SL is finished in an apt hue called Tobacco Brown and features a sumptuous Cognac leather interior. (It really is the automotive equivalent of a cigar and cognac, no?) Further enhancing its grand touring appeal are air conditioning, power steering, and a gorgeous Becker Europa II radio. All that beauty doesn’t come cheap, however, with this particular 280 SL going for a hair below $215,000 on Bring a Trailer .

Riding the momentum of the white-hot restomod market, German racing outfit HWA has recently taken the sheets off its own build . Called the HWA EVO, it’s an homage to the Mercedes 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II of the early ’90s, a low-volume model that was built to satisfy DTM homologation regulations (502 were built, to be exact). For power, the original Evo II relied on a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated inline-four cylinder, which developed 232 horsepower thanks to engineering input from British engine tuner Cosworth. To appeal to today’s restomod buyer, however, HWA has thrown out the idea of using a four-cylinder and instead has developed a brawnier solution in the form of a twin-turbocharged V6 that makes 500 horsepower. Naturally, the bodywork is made entirely from carbon fiber and HWA has located the transmission to the rear of the car in transaxle form to optimize the weight distribution. The design language doesn’t stray too far from the original’s; the essence of the Evo II remains, but modern touches like LED headlights and larger wheels—forged six-spoke staggered 19” and 20”—bring the HWA EVO into a new era of performance.

HWA will produce 100 units of the EVO, with prices starting at around $800,000. Last month, however, RM Sotheby’s sold a build slot for an EVO at just shy of $1.5 million , indicating a strong demand for the Mercedes restomod.

With the rise of expedition yachting in remote destinations such as Antarctica , Greenland, and Indonesia’s Raja Ampat, there’s a general belief that all corners of the globe are now accessible by private yacht charter.

“River cruising is the beneficiary of a larger travel trend in which luxury travelers are looking to do nothing,” Daniel Levine, director of New York consultancy Avant-Guide Institute , tells Robb Report . “By that, I mean they can visit multiple ports and soak up plenty of culture and history, all without changing hotels.”

This new fleet of river cruisers can access inland cities and remote stretches of countryside that are inaccessible to large oceangoing vessels. Plus, Levine says, there’s an added advantage to river travel: no seasickness.

One leader of the new set of purpose-built riverboats is Aqua Expeditions , the luxury river cruise operator whose first vessel, Aria Amazon , set sail on the Peruvian Amazon in 2011. Over a decade later, the fleet has grown to three river ships, none with more than 20 suites, cruising both the Amazon and the Mekong River in Vietnam and Cambodia, along with two oceangoing yachts in the Galapagos and Eastern Indonesia. 

“On my river ships, 30 percent of departures are now private buyouts, similar to traditional charters,” says founder Francesco Galli Zugaro. These clients, mainly multigenerational family groups or large gatherings of friends, are people who tend to vacation on yachts rather than the typical cruise ship crowd. Most of them have come to the riverboats, says Galli Zugaro, after chartering one of Aqua Expeditions’ two yachts.

The desire for off-the-beaten-track travel is fueling this new interest in riverboat charters, says Frédéric Crétin, a Monaco-based charter broker at superyacht brokerage Camper & Nicholsons . “We’ve had a surge in enquiries for the Peruvian Amazon, especially with Americans since it’s not too far from home,” says Crétin, who manages whole-boat bookings for the Aqua Expeditions fleet.

Heritage Line operates five traditionally styled ships along the upper and lower Mekong River and in Vietnam’s Halong Bay and Lan Ha Bay. “Our vessels, particularly our small-ship sailing charters on Halong Bay and Lan Ha Bay, have seen an increase in private stays,” says CEO John Tue Nguyen. “We now average 12 to 15 charters annually, including families, multi-generational bookings and VIP travelers.”

In Egypt, a gap in the market to showcase the country’s temples in a private, exclusive way, was behind the launch of the Nile River’s first luxury charter yacht in 2022, Berge . “Our clients are mostly royal families, politicians, celebrities, and athletes,” says Armen Kazazian of Kazazian Cruises , the yacht’s owner. “They don’t want to share the Egypt experience with hundreds of other people.”

The 180-foot, nine-cabin vessel has recently been joined by a sistership, the 196-foot, nine-cabin Arax . True to superyacht protocol, charters are secured with an official MYBA The Worldwide Yachting Association contract, and in the lead-up to the charter, a preference form is sent out to gather information on dietary preferences and daily routines to ensure everything is ready for your arrival. 

The differences also include having no water toys as one would on a conventional yacht charter. “But we overcome that with the destination and experiences, such as candlelit dinners on private islands,” says Kazazian. Maybe. But being restricted to a single route on a river is also fundamentally different than port-hopping along the Med or Caribbean.

Inland cruising has multiple benefits, insists Matthew Shollar of Transcend Cruises , Europe’s first charter-only, river-cruise company. “You’re not just in coastal locations and you can take your whole group off the boat to a spa, or go biking, or shopping,” Shollar says. “And a riverboat always docks close to your destination.”

In September 2025, the company’s first ship, the 443-foot Transcend , will launch, with a second identical vessel following in early 2026. Penned by Tillberg Design of Sweden, both are built to European riverboat specs but draw inspiration from superyachts for style and amenities, including a 2,600-square-foot indoor/outdoor fitness area that includes a gym, spa, and guest wellness facility. 

“The single most expensive piece of equipment on board is a hot tip from superyachts, a 144-inch C Seed unfolding television,” continues Shollar. “It’s a worthwhile investment for guests to enjoy everything from silent discos to movie nights on the sun deck.”

The company soft-launched Transcend Advance this summer to better examine the private market’s potential. It took over a five-star vessel from Riverside Luxury Cruises. One client, celebrating his 60th birthday party, had never considered a riverboat charter, but was lured by being able to host many more guests. “We designed a six-day itinerary that was flexible and unique,” says Kimberly Daley, Transcend’s chief revenue officer. “It enabled him and his friends to see chartering in a whole new way.”

Transcend will sail “the highest-demand European waterways,” including the Rhine, Danube, and Moselle, offering waterside access to historic cities like Trier, Budapest, and Belgrade.

But a second collection of smaller luxury barges is carrying charter to canals and smaller waterways. Both Belmond’s 128-foot Coquelicot and European Waterways’ Kir Royale launched in France’s Champagne region this year, with a max capacity of six and eight guests, respectively, and the possibility of whole-boat bookings. This combination of space, intimacy, pastoral views and access to exceptional vineyards can’t be replicated on oceangoing yachts.

While luxury riverboats are still a small niche compared to the larger world of superyacht charters, they offer another kind of cruising experience, one that combines slow-moving water with a relaxed lifestyle in some of the most scenic destinations on the planet.

Four of the seven victims killed in the Bayesian superyacht wreck were trapped alive inside the ship’s cabins as the vessel went down off the coast of Sicily last month, according to their autopsies.

New York City lawyer Chris Morvillo, his wife Neda, along with Morgan Stanley Bank International chair Jonathan Bloomer and his wife, Judy, all died of “dry drowning,” according to tests conducted over the past two days, Italian outlet la Repubblica reported.

None of the four passengers aboard the 185-foot sailboat had water in their lungs, trachea or stomach — revealing that they did not drown in the seawater after the ship began sinking during an Aug. 19 storm.

Pathologists with the Palermo Institute of Forensic Medicine determined the four victims died of asphyxiation when the air bubble they huddled in ran out of oxygen and became toxic with carbon dioxide.

They said the victims’ cause of death was “death by confinement,” according to the Italian publication.

The bodies of the Morvillos and the Bloomers — and that of British tech billionaire and the yacht owner Mike Lynch — were found inside the same cabin room on the left side of the $40 million yacht.

The body of Lynch’s 18-year-old daughter Hannah was discovered in the next room, also on the left side of the hull.

The ship sank to the ocean floor and sat tilted on its right side — which means the victims were likely awake as they headed inside the cabins that filled with water last in hopes of finding air pockets.

But the air pockets quickly became toxic as the victims breathed in the last of its oxygen and breathed out carbon dioxide.

Lynch’s wife and Hanna’s mother, Angela Bacares — who survived the shipwreck — reportedly tried to warn those below the ship’s deck but was injured when she stepped on broken glass and wasn’t able to reach the cabins as they quickly filled with water, the local outlet reported.

Bacares was among 15 passengers and crew members on the yacht to survive.

One crew member, the ship’s cook, Recaldo Thomas, was also killed. His body was found floating next to the downed yacht.

Additional tests are needed to confirm that the four victims died by “dry drowning,” la Repubblica reported.

Autopsy examinations on the bodies of Lynch, Hannah and Thomas are scheduled for Friday.

The cause of the ship’s capsize has not yet been determined, though the stormy weather is believed to be a contributing factor.

Three Bayesian crew members, including Captain James Cutfield, are being investigated for suspected negligent manslaughter and causing the shipwreck.

Nizhny Novgorod (colloquially often just “Nizhny”; from 1932 to 1990 - Gorky) is a large city located in the center of European Russia, the administrative center of the Volga Federal District and Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.

It is an important economic, industrial, scientific, educational, and cultural center of Russia, the largest transport hub of the Volga Federal District. Nizhny Novgorod is one of the main centers of river tourism in Russia. The historic part of the city is rich in sights and is a popular tourist destination.

The population of Nizhny Novgorod is about 1,234,000 (2022), the area - 411 sq. km.

History of Nizhny Novgorod

Foundation of nizhny novgorod.

During the military campaigns of the Russian princes against the Volga Bulgaria, the place where the Oka River flows into the Volga was used as a gathering point for the Murom and Suzdal troops. In 1220, Grand Duke Yuri Vsevolodovich (the grandson of Prince Yuri Dolgoruky, the founder of Moscow) conducted a successful campaign against the Bulgars. After it, he “decided to strengthen this important place for Rus” and founded a town at the mouth of the Oka.

It was named Novgorod, which literally means “new town”. Later, the adjective “nizhny” (“lower”) was added to the name of the town in the Russian annals. This was probably done in order to distinguish it from the town of Novgorod (present Veliky Novgorod) and other Novgorods that existed at that time.

The founding of Nizhny Novgorod was the beginning of an active expansion of Russian influence in the Mordovian lands. Two white-stone churches were built in the fortress, including the Cathedral of the Archangel (1227) - evidence of the special role that the town had in the system of lands of Vladimir-Suzdal Rus. However, the Mongol invasion stopped further development.

Information about Nizhny Novgorod of the 13th century is extremely scarce. But it is known that after the invasion it revived relatively quickly. Nizhny Novgorod is constantly mentioned in Russian chronicles as a major political and economic center of North-Eastern Rus and a spiritual center of Orthodoxy in the Volga region. The town was often the object of conflicts between Moscow and Tver.

In 1392, the Moscow prince Vasily I received a jarlig for the Nizhny Novgorod Principality and captured Nizhny Novgorod. The final annexation of Nizhny Novgorod to the possessions of Moscow took place in the late 1440s.

Nizhny Novgorod in the 16th-18th centuries

Under Ivan III and Vasily III, the town played the role of a border post and was a gathering place for military campaigns against the Kazan Khanate. In 1508-1515, the stone kremlin was built. After the capture of Kazan by Ivan the Terrible, the border role of Nizhny Novgorod became insignificant. At the same time, Nizhny Novgorod became the center of trade between Russia and the East and a large shipbuilding center.

In September 1611, during the Time of Troubles, the Second People’s Militia was organized in Nizhny Novgorod to fight the Poles who were able to establish control over Moscow. The militia consisted of detachments of townspeople, peasants of the central and northern regions of the Tsardom of Russia. The leaders were the Nizhny Novgorod merchant Kuzma Minin and Prince Dmitry Pozharsky (the monument to them is installed on Red Square in Moscow). In October 1612, the militia was able to completely liberate Moscow.

In the 17th century, a schism occurred in the Orthodox Church under Patriarch Nikon. It led to the formation of numerous settlements of Old Believers in the vicinity of Nizhny Novgorod. In 1695, during his Azov campaign, Peter I arrived in Nizhny Novgorod. In 1719, as a result of his administrative-territorial reforms, the town became the center of a separate Nizhny Novgorod Governorate. In 1722, setting off on the Persian campaign, Nizhny Novgorod was again visited by Peter I. Here he celebrated his 50th birthday.

In 1767, Nizhny Novgorod was visited by Empress Catherine II. During her stay in the town, she met the famous local mechanic and inventor Ivan Kulibin. After her visit, a new regular town plan was approved. The first town theater was built in 1798. Later, it became known as Nikolaevsky, in honor of Emperor Nicholas I.

Nizhny Novgorod in the 19th century

At the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, Nizhny Novgorod became a major scientific and cultural center of the Russian Empire. In 1811, the population of Nizhny Novgorod was about 14,400 people. In 1817, the Makaryev Fair, the largest fair of the Russian Empire, was moved to the village of Kunavino (one of the districts of today’s Nizhny Novgorod). Before that, it was organized every year near the Makaryevsky Monastery, which burned down a year earlier. From that time on, it began to be called the Nizhny Novgorod Fair. Thanks to it, the rapid economic development of the town and adjacent villages began.

After Emperor Nicholas I visited the town in 1834, the large-scale reconstruction of Nizhny Novgorod began. In 1847, a water supply system appeared in the town and the first fountain was built. Private buildings in the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin were demolished and new administrative buildings appeared in their place. A lot of new buildings, streets, boulevards, and gardens were built.

In 1849, a large industrial enterprise was founded in the village of Sormovo (another district of today’s Nizhny Novgorod). Later, it became known as the Sormovo plant. It was producing river steamers, various railway cars, steam locomotives, and trams. Thanks to the plant, Sormovo soon turned into a large village of workers. In 1862, the construction of the Moscow-Nizhny Novgorod railway was completed. In 1863, the population of the city was 41,500 people.

In 1896, the city hosted the All-Russian Trade and Industrial Exhibition. The radio receiver of the engineer A.S. Popov, the hyperboloid tower of the engineer V.G. Shukhov were demonstrated at the exhibition, as well as the first Russian car of the Frese and Yakovlev factories.

Nizhny Novgorod in the first half of the 20th century

In 1914, about 111,000 people lived in Nizhny Novgorod. In 1917, during the First World War, the Warsaw Polytechnic Institute was evacuated to this city, on the basis of which the Nizhny Novgorod Polytechnic Institute was created.

On October 7, 1932, Nizhny Novgorod was renamed Gorky due to the 40th anniversary of the literary and social activities of the writer Maxim Gorky. In 1933, the first permanent bridge across the Oka River was built. The railway bridge across the Volga was constructed too. Thanks to this, it became possible to go by rail through Gorky to the Urals and Siberia.

The 1930s were a period of rapid industrialization. In 1932, the largest industrial enterprise in the city was opened - the Gorky Automobile Plant (GAZ), an important object of the Soviet defense industry. In the 1930s-1940s, the city was even referred to as “Russian Detroit”. By 1939, the population of Nizhny Novgorod increased to about 644,000 people.

Every fourth resident of the Gorky region (about 822 thousand people) fought on the fronts of the Second World War. Of these, more than 350 thousand people did not return from the battlefields - they were killed, went missing or died from wounds in hospitals.

In June 1943, three large raids of German bombers were carried out on Gorky. The main target of air strikes was the Gorky Automobile Plant, which as a result was almost completely destroyed. It was rebuilt only in the middle of 1944. Over 500,000 wounded were treated in dozens of hospitals during the war years.

The city was an important center for the production of weapons. During the Second World War, every second Soviet car, every third tank and every fourth artillery piece were produced at Gorky’s plants. In total, about 38 thousand tanks, self-propelled guns, armored vehicles, 43 thousand mortars, 16 thousand aircraft, 22 submarines, 109 thousand cars, more than 85 thousand radio stations, as well as 101 thousand artillery pieces and 1,165 Katyusha multiple rocket launchers were produced in Gorky.

Nizhny Novgorod after the Second World War

In 1946, the first GAZ-M-20 “Pobeda” passenger car and the GAZ-51 truck left the assembly line of the Gorky Automobile Plant. In 1949, the construction of the monumental Chkalov Stairs connecting the Upper Volga and Lower Volga embankments was completed in the historic center of Nizhny Novgorod. On August 4, 1959, the resolution of the Council of Ministers of the USSR “On the closure of the city of Gorky for visiting by foreigners” was issued. In 1962, the population of Gorky exceeded 1 million people.

On January 18, 1970, a radiation accident occurred at the Krasnoe Sormovo plant. During the construction of a nuclear submarine, an unauthorized launch of the reactor took place. After working at prohibitive power for about 10-15 seconds, it partially collapsed. Hundreds of workers were exposed to the radioactive release. In total, over one thousand people took part in the liquidation of the consequences of the accident and were exposed to radiation.

In 1985, a subway was opened in Gorky. In 1980-1986, Andrei Sakharov, a world famous nuclear physicist, Nobel laureate, and activist, was in exile in Gorky to prevent his contacts with foreigners. In the early 1990s, the “closed city” status was lifted and the city became accessible to foreigners. On October 22, 1990, Gorky was renamed back to Nizhny Novgorod. In 1991, the population of the city reached its maximum - 1,445,000 people.

At the end of the 20th century, the information technology sphere began to actively develop in the city. In the 2000s, a transport problem arose because of the insufficient carrying capacity of the Nizhny Novgorod bridges connecting the lower part of the city and the upper one.

In February 2012, the Nizhny Novgorod Volga Aerial Tramway was opened. This 3661-meter-long gondola lift cable car connected Nizhny Novgorod with the town of Bor. Its daily passenger traffic is about 5,000 people. In 2013, the city electric train was launched - an alternative to the subway line from Sormovo to Moskovsky railway station.

Nizhny Novgorod hosted 6 matches of the FIFA World Cup 2018 . A new stadium was built, the old river port was demolished, a new park and embankments were created. Large-scale restoration of old streets and buildings took place, new museums were opened, hotels were built, and parks were reconstructed.

It starts from the observation deck at the monument to Valery Chkalov (the famous Soviet pilot who made the first non-stop flight from the USSR to the USA via the North Pole), next to the St. George Tower of the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin.

Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street - the main street of Nizhny Novgorod built up with noble mansions of the past centuries. A large part of Bolshaya Pokrovskaya is reserved for the pedestrian zone and is analogous to the pedestrian Arbat Street in Moscow.
