The 30m/98'5" motor yacht 'K' (ex. C'est La Vie Deux) was built by Broward in the United States at their Fort Lauderdale, Florida shipyard. This luxury vessel's exterior design is the work of Broward and she was last refitted in 2007.

Built with a aluminium hull and aluminium superstructure, with gpr decks, she benefits from a semi-displacement hull to provide exceptional seakeeping and impressive speeds. Powered by twin diesel Detroit Diesel (12V92 TA) 1,550hp engines, she comfortably cruises at 13 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 16 knots with a range of up to 1,200 nautical miles from her 34,069 litre fuel tanks at 13 knots. Her water tanks store around 3,785 Litres of fresh water. She was built to None classification society rules.

This compact, couples-friendly motorhome benefits from some impressive touches, at a price that's right

Motorhomes that are compact, but with a large washroom at the rear and plenty of space to luxuriate in, are becoming increasingly popular. And with a large garage also included, the prospect feels even more tempting. We’ve seen such a layout in Roller-Team’s A-class Pegaso range, and in a good few low-profiles.

This season, while many other manufacturers were grappling with the effects of lockdowns, Italian brand Mobilvetta chose to completely revamp its A-class Tekno Line K Yacht range. While for many years this range has stuck to the standard island-bed or fixed-single-bed format, this time two new models have been included, just for the UK market. And one of them, the K Yacht 59, has that people end-washroom layout.

We went to have a look at it at the Northampton branch of Marquis Leisure, Mobilvetta’s sole UK dealer.

Exterior and cab

The K Yacht entered 2022 considerably refreshed. While much of the change is inside, there are improvements outside, too. The front facade, for example, has been remodelled  to provide a large windscreen that sits more flush with the profile. Graphics down the edges are now more substantial and you get Fiat alloy wheels and integrated all-LED rear lights.

But what’s really new is what’s  underneath. This season all K Yachts sit on Fiat’s 4400kg chassis, which means that you’ll need a C1 driving licence. In the past, Mobilvetta payloads were much lower, due to the company sticking with a 3500kg MTPLM; however, with the heavier chassis there’s a massive payload of 1001kg. That’s easily enough for couples – and, given that this is a three-berth with four travel seats (not shown in the prototype in our photos), it should be more than enough for at least one extra person, too.

There’s also another big change: Mobilvetta has decided to make life simpler by fitting an automatic gearbox as standard. And it’s Fiat’s new nine-speed gearbox, too; you should be in for a smooth ride.

As standard, the cab door is on the correct side for UK drivers. The cab inside is standard Ducato, but you’ll notice the improved vision the new windscreen gives you, not to mention the huge dashboard. An integrated rear-view camera is fitted, too. The captain’s seats have upholstery that matches the lounge.

Lounging and dining

A grab handle on a padded cross-stitched cushion helps you into the motorhome, and once you switch the lights on you’ll notice the large, lit mirror right by the door – so you can make sure you look your best before heading out on site again.

As the K Yacht moniker implies, Mobilvetta has taken inspiration from marine design for its interiors, which is why previous models came with a lot of chrome, shiny mahogany-type wood finishes, and shiny white lockers. Much of that has gone this year. The wood finish is paler and more matt; the settees continue the cross-stitching of the panel by the door, and are finished off in a pleasing mix of brown and cream; and that same colour combination is echoed in the locker doors. There is no chrome at all.

There should easily be enough room for six around the telescopic pedestal table, although perhaps only a small person should attempt to sit on the forward of the L-shaped seat, because the flap you can remove to make legroom for a fourth travelling passenger felt a little fragile to us. The table swings in all directions for easy access, so no one feels left out.

There is a slight step down from cab to lounge, but not enough to make those in the cab seats feel they’re too high up.

Diffused daylight comes nicely through the net blinds and a Heki. There are no spotlights, even in the cab, but night lighting includes a large LED light under the drop-down bed; and plenty of ambient light coming out from behind the lockers.

While Mobilvetta has shown admirable restraint in the new upholstery and furniture finish, it hasn’t entirely eliminated the blue ambient lighting that was a feature of previous season ‘vans. Two strips of blue shine out of the corners under the bed, to our mind, this slightly cheapens the elegant overall look.

There is a mains socket on the front end of the nearside sofa, and two USB ports on the same end of the offside one. Sockets and a bracket for a TV are positioned over the lit mirror by the door; from here a TV can be seen by everyone except those in the travel seats.

There’s also a shelf below here, and the other end of the settee includes a handy pocket to stash your latest copy of Practical Motorhome .

The overcab bed drops down easily – you no longer have to manoeuvre the cab seats to make sure they are in exactly the right position, as you sometimes needed to before. The bed is comfortable and comes with a press-on reading light. If you aren’t planning to use the third bed, a ladder to reach it can easily be positioned if you simply slide the table aside.

That has to be sacrificed if you find you need to make up a third bed, but this third bed is definitely not the nightmare jigsaw puzzle that many of these beds so often are. All you have to do is push the table down and fit in one infill cushion that makes the snuggest fit we’ve seen in a long time. If you remove the backrests it’s a really long bed, too – well over 2m – and wide, at 90cm. So a tall teenager shouldn’t have too much to complain about.

In addition, there is a tiny bit of seating room left over, so you’d have space to make a cuppa if they refuse to get out of bed.

The side kitchen is well separated from the lounge by a partition. With a short peninsula at the front there is adequate workspace, although much of it is behind the large, round sink. There are three burners on the flush-set hob, and one of them is an induction plate. A mains socket is located in the bottom of the locker above here.

The oven is a Duplex combined oven and grill, and there’s no microwave. But on the other side of the aisle you get a 149-litre fridge with a proper, separate freezer.

Mobilvetta hasn’t yet gone down the route that so many others have, of including a two-way opening fridge door, but you likely won’t need it here.

The slight step up into the end washroom is a little irritating, and this isn’t quite as spacious as some other end washrooms we have seen – there’s only just about enough room in here for dressing.

However, the shower (on the offside) is well lit and, because there’s a small step down, has good headroom; there are also two drainage holes.

A large washbasin sits on a counter top at the back, under a well-lit mirror. At the other end, next to the wardrobe, is a toothbrush mug. There’s a roof vent in the centre, and more lighting.

You won’t have to worry about the access to the toilet cassette only being possible through any awning, because (unusually) the hatch for the cassette is on this ‘van’s rear panel.

There is plenty of opportunity to make use of that sizeable payload via the outside of this model. A large door at the rear of the nearside gives you access to the back of the washroom wardrobe. The shelves there can, if necessary, be folded away to let you store bigger items such as a parasol.

There is a small locker with an even smaller access door on the offside, and another external locker next to where the passenger seat is.

Inside the motorhome, there’s a small locker on the passenger side in the cab. Except for a small boot locker by the door, all underseat areas are taken up with the electrics and the water tanks.

Unusually, Moibilvetta has kept the design of the three overhead lockers on the offside the same over both the lounge and the kitchen; so you can choose what you use them for to suit your needs. Even the locker that’s directly over the kitchen doesn’t have a crockery rack.

Down below, kitchen storage is a little bit less practical. Under the small peninsula it is excellent, with three large shelves that slide out. But the pan cupboard under the oven is small, and its long door can get in the way of the washroom door, which could prove rather irritating longer-term. The narrow cupboard above this doesn’t seem particularly useful, either.

On the other side of the motorhome there is a small, oblong cupboard below the wardrobe to the left of the fridge, and another on top of it (although this is quite a height above floor level).

The shower in the washroom includes a handy rack for gels, and there’s a decent-sized cupboard underneath the basin.

The mirror also lifts up to reveal a locker. We found it a little tricky to lift this up fully without needing to step back out of the washroom, but it’s possible that a bit of practice would help in this regard.

While (with its shelves down) the wardrobe in the washroom is spacious, we were surprised to find the only wardrobe with a hanging facility to be on the other side of the washroom door. This does mean that clothing or shoes can be retrieved by another person while the washroom is occupied, however.

This is where there’s a third pleasant surprise this season: 2022 K Yachts now come with Alde heating to keep you comfortably warm during the winter.

Elsewhere, the cab is very favourably attired in standard spec, with a rear-view camera plus a DAB radio with Bluetooth connectivity included. The water tanks are a good size. Perhaps the only slight disappointment is having a combined oven and grill, and no microwave at all; but this certainly isn’t the only Continental A-class with such a specification.

Our test model included a black roll-out awning, but that was part of a show offer.

There are one or two niggles that we encountered in the Mobilvetta Tekno Line K Yacht 59 – the kitchen storage facility isn’t brilliant, and the end washroom isn’t as spacious as in some other models that feature this popular layout. However, the major additions to the K Yacht for the 2022 season are more than welcome and make it easy to see how it was shortlisted for both the best A-class motorhome and the best motorhome under £80,000 at the Practical Motorhome Awards.

Alde heating and an automatic gearbox will make using this ‘van much more enjoyable, and the heavier chassis gives you lots more payload to play with. Mobilvetta (and Marquis Leisure) are to be commended for presenting all this at an easy to understand price.

Having worked on a myriad of residential and hospitality projects over the past few years, Miminat is adept at creating elegant interiors with contemporary decor, sculptural furniture, and statement lighting. K features all of the above and a sleek, stylish exterior. In contrast to the Japanese design influence, the vessel will reportedly display the finest Italian craftsmanship. As the studio puts it, K is “not only a vessel for art, but a masterpiece in and of itself.”

With an interior volume of approximately 300 GT, K offers a spacious interior with five cabins. The owner’s suite is positioned on the main deck, while a VIP and three doubles sit on the lower deck. The crew quarters are also located on the lower deck. Back on the main deck lies a salon with a Japanese-inspired lounge, a bar, and a dining area with a 10-seater table. A spiral staircase leads to a spacious upper deck with a helm and alfresco dining area.

K also offers luxurious hangouts forward and aft. The two-level aft deck centers around a singular infinity pool that waterfalls from one level to the next, while the bow is equipped with a plush lounge and firepit.

Miminat says “various engine options” will give K a maximum speed of 25 knots and a cruising speed of 16 knots. It is hard to imagine the yacht will be overly practical in tumultuous waters—especially given her scant hardtop, hull cutouts, and exposed aft deck—but, hey, at least she’ll look pretty.

In 2015 Gianluca Fenucci and Antonio Longobardi, followed by Lorenzo Barbini in 2017, started developing Yachting Expertise merging knowledge to project, build and refit yachts at the higher standards.

Following long and intense experiences in the yachting industry that started in the mid-80s  at CRN, in 2001 a mix-match of partners followed the dream of Gianluca Fenucci, who was the spark and led the creation of ISA shipyard, closely supported by Antonio Longobardi who was developing and leading the technical department, among others. The managers found the right partner in Rodriguez Group, the most important and prestigious commercial player at that time.

The aim for ISA was to unite under one new flag two neighbouring shipyards located in the industrial area of the Port of Ancona with the mission to design, develop and manufacture luxury mega-yachts at the forefront of innovations in technology and design for a very selective clientele.  From the end of 2006, ISA was controlled by Yachting Investors Group, a London based Private Equity, Gianluca Fenucci successfully organized and coordinated the management buy-out process.

Since its first delivery in 2003, 32 yachts have been delivered with an average of about 3 yachts per year up to 2014, together with major refits of superyachts and commercial vessels of 35-90+m, becoming a reference of top quality in the luxury yachting field. ISA received several  awards for delivering high-class yachts, including the Super Yacht Award in 2011 for “The Best 60m” with MY “Mary Jean II”, 2006 Millennium Design Award for the ISA 120 and the Yachts International Trophy in 2014 for MY “OKTO”.

GIANLUCA FENUCCI

Managing director.

After graduating as Mechanical Engineer, Gianluca started his career at CRN Shipyard’s being in charge of the project coordination and delivery of 15 luxury yachts. He moved to Florida in 1997 to oversee the building of a 40.000 square feet luxury residence in Palm Beach. In 2000 he worked hard to found a new shipyard, creating the ISA Shipyards of Ancona that started operating in 2001. From 2003 to 2014 ISA successfully delivered 32 new high-quality superyachts from 36 to 66 m, including the  Award Winner MY “Mary Jean II” to the latest’s industry icons “OKTO” and “Forever One”.  In late  2015 he becomes independent consultant to bring his technical, managerial and commercial skills, matured after  30 years of life dedicated with passion to the yachting industry, founding Yachting Expertise firm.

ANTONIO LONGOBARDI​

Technical director.

Antonio graduated as Naval Engineer at University of Napoli in 1984. He began his career working in the offshore industry right after graduation. Since 1994 his work has been concentrated in the yachting industry starting his professional experience at CRN Shipyard operating as Technical & Project Management department, leading the developing and delivering of 6 major new projects. In 2001 he acted as one of the founders and shareholders of ISA. He has coordinated the ISA technical department and reached the greatest performance results, including the famous Award winners “Mary Jean II” and “OKTO”.

He is a Yachting Expertise co-founder leading and overseeing all technical matters.

PIERLUIGI LONGOBARDI

Project engineer.

Pierluigi obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from Marche Polytechnic University and then the Master’s Degree with honours in Mechanical Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Turin in 2019 with a thesis entitled “Model Order Reduction for Nonlinear Vibrations of Geometrically Nonlinear Structures”. He worked on his master thesis at the Imperial College London in the Rolls-Royce Vibration University Technology Centre. After the graduation he moved in Milton Keynes (UK) to join the F1 team Red Bull Racing as Simulation Engineer in the Vehicle Dynamics Group. In Summer 2020 he joined the Yachting Expertise team as Project Engineer focused on the engineering, research and innovation of the yachting industry with a special care to the eco-efficiency of the motor-yachts. After his experience in Formula 1, Pierluigi believes that the superyachts industry is the F1 of yachting industry where most of the cutting-edge technologies are trialled and brought to the market.

LORENZO BARBINI​

Interiors & project integration director.

He’s early passion for art and design make him attend the Artistic High School in his native town of Ancona, achieving a Degree in Architecture and Interior Design. After a couple of years of experience in Residential Architecture and Design he started in the yachting industry in early 1996, in Sherwood srl, Fano, where he was following the interiors of CRN constructions and refitting from 30 to 70 meters, leading to work internally in CRN for 4 years before joining ISA Yachts at is founding in 2001. Progressing from Technical Production to Technical Interior Outfitting Manager he followed directly the interior constructions, among many other projects, of the Award Winner MY OKTO, MY MARY JEAN II, MY KOLAHA.

"She Loved Life": UK Billionaire's Daughter Dies In Sicily Yacht Wreck

Hannah Lynch's friends had nothing but kind words for their friend.

British business tycoon Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter Hannah Lynch were killed after their luxury yacht Bayesian sank during a storm off the coast of Sicily on Monday. On Friday, search divers recovered the seventh and final body from the sunken superyacht, reported The Washington Post .

Cosimo Nicastro, a spokesman for the Italian Coast Guard, confirmed the identity of the victim as Hannah. “I can confirm it to you, the last victim inside the hull has been found,” he said. Mike's trial lawyer Christopher Morvillo, his trial witness Jonathan Bloomer, and three others were also killed in the tragedy. 

Hannah Lynch's sister, Esme said that Hannah often burst into my bedroom and lay down with me, adding no matter what, she brought boundless love. "She was endlessly caring, passionately mad, unintentionally hilarious and the most amazing, supportive, and joyful sister and best friend to me," she said.

She had even more love to give endlessly to all her friends and passion to give to her incredible studies and goals, Esme told The Guardian. "She is my little angel, my star."

On behalf of the Lynch family, a spokesperson said they were devastated, in shock, and were being comforted and supported by family and friends. "Their thoughts are with everyone affected by the tragedy. They would like to sincerely thank the Italian coastguard, emergency services and all those who helped in the rescue. Their one request now is that their privacy be respected at this time of unspeakable grief," the statement added.

Jon Mitropoulos-Monk, Hannah Lynch's English professor at Latymer Upper School in West London was all praises for his student. He said he taught Hannah for four years and would remember her for what she taught him "kindness, compassion, and commitment".

She said she had never taught someone who "combined sky-high intellectual ability with warmth and enthusiasm" like Hannah did. She lit up the classroom with her energy, passion for learning, the teacher said about the 18-year-old. 

Calling the 18-year-old “one of the best English students in the country”, she told the English daily, “By age 16, she'd read Joyce, Faulkner and Nabokov … She loved literature, learning and life. She was so excited to start studying English at Oxford, a goal she had worked so hard towards."

When she got her place, she sought out every single member of the Latymer upper English department to thank them individually and give them a hug, the teacher added.

Hannah Lynch's friends had nothing but kind words for their friend. The love Hannah had for everything she held dear was passionate and pure, said Katya Lewis, adding her friend had a warm and beautiful soul.

"When I think of Hannah, I think of poetry, sunshine and her beautiful eyes," said Hannah's classmate, Gracie Lea. "She was easy to love: sincere, dedicated, fiercely intelligent and genuinely kind. I'll always remember her smiling."

Not long after the Bayesian sank, fifteen people, including Angela Bacares, Hannah Lynch's mother, were saved. During the preliminary search, Recaldo Thomas, the yacht pilot, was found dead.

Six people missing, including British tech tycoon Mike Lynch, and one dead after tornado sinks luxury yacht off Sicily

R escuers were on Monday searching for six people – including British tech tycoon Mike Lynch – who went missing after a luxury yacht was hit by a tornado and sank off the coast of Sicily, killing one of the 22 people on board.

The vessel was hit by the tornado at around 5 a.m. Monday, according to a spokesperson for Italy’s Coast Guard. The yacht was anchored about a half a mile from the port of Porticello on the Mediterranean island.

Four Britons and two Americans are among those missing, the spokesperson said.

A source told CNN that Lynch, the founder of software giant Autonomy, was a passenger on the yacht. The source spoke to CNN on the condition of anonymity, as they were not authorized to speak to the media.

Fifteen people were rescued, including Lynch’s wife Angela Bacares, and one child was airlifted to the children’s hospital in Palermo. Eight people were hospitalized in total, according to the mayor’s office. One body was found on the hull of the yacht, the Coast Guard said.

A small waterspout – one of several types of tornadoes – developed over the area Monday morning, according to a report from the European Severe Weather Database. Other strong storms across Sicily brought torrential rainfall late Sunday, dumping more than 4 inches (100 mm) of rain in less than four hours in Brolo, east of Palermo.

The weather forecast had warned of potential strong winds, with storms across the entire southern region of Italy Sunday, the Coast Guard spokesperson added.

One survivor, Charlotte, 35, described how she battled to hold onto her one-year-old daughter, Sofia, reported Italian news agency ANSA, as a barrage of waves sank the yacht.

“In two seconds I lost the baby in the sea, then I immediately hugged her again amidst the fury of the waves. I held her tightly, close to me, while the sea was stormy,” she told journalists. “Many were screaming.”

The captain is among the survivors, the spokesperson for Italy’s Coast Guard said.

The 56-meter yacht called the “Bayesian,” which flies under a British flag, had mostly British passengers and crew, in addition to two Anglo-French, one Irish and one Sri Lankan, the spokesperson told CNN. The New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade told CNN two of its citizens were involved in the incident, but were not among those still missing. The nationality of the dead person has not been disclosed.

The Italian fire brigade said its divers had reached the yacht’s hull 49 meters (160 feet) below sea level, according to a press statement. The brigade also dispatched helicopters to bolster the search operation.

The captain of a nearby boat said he turned on his engine to avoid crashing into the Bayesian, Reuters reported, as fierce gales swept the area.

“This morning we got this strong gust and we had to start the engine to keep the ship in an angled position,” he told reporters on Monday. “After the storm was over, we noticed that the ship behind us was gone.”

The UK’s Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) is deploying a team of four inspectors to Palermo to conduct a preliminary assessment of the yacht, a source familiar with the operations told CNN. The source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, did not say when the team is expected to arrive in Sicily.

British tycoon among those missing

Lynch, the British entrepreneur missing from the yacht, had been plagued by legal woes since 2011 , when he sold his company to tech firm Hewlett-Packard (HP) for $11 billion.

In June, he was acquitted of fraud by a jury in San Francisco, after prosecutors accused him of trying to inflate Autonomy’s revenue in the latest chapter of the legal saga.

He turned ground-breaking research at Cambridge University into the foundation of Autonomy, which became Britain’s biggest software company and a member of the blue-chip FTSE 100 index.

Lynch was lauded by academics and scientists and asked to advise the British government on technology and innovation.

Ownership records held by maritime information service Equasis show that the yacht is owned by the Isle of Man-registered Revtom Limited company. Revtom Limited’s latest annual return from April lists Bacares as its owner.
