Seems like a nice enough place. But the GM...a jerk. I am a 53 year old well-educated upper-middle-class white female, and was dressed the part yesterday evening. Was waiting for my friend to valet the car. General manager came out and asked me why I was there, who I was with and why I was standing in his parking lot. Not an impressive way to greet a first-time guest. I told him whose boat I was going out on and he continued to indicate to me that I could not park in the lot. Since I was standing outside the car and was clearly not the car's driver, I'm not sure what effect he thought I could have on the parking situation. But I do hate the way he treated me and the way he accused me of not belonging. It definitely made me hesitant to return. What a jerk. Wondering how he treats people of different races or different socioeconomic statuses. Charming.

I went here recently with my fiance who is a teacher. She was there to help out with her schools senior prom. So, we didn't eat in the restaurant portion of the club, we ate on the banquet side. I was wildly disappointed with the food we received for the $60 price. It was a couple of pieces of breaded chicken over some pasta. I would rank the quality of the food somewhere between a Lean Cuisine frozen dinner and Chilis. It didn't help that I had to walk past the amazing looking buffet that the other side of the restaurant had access to. I'm sure that food was great, but all I can base my opinion on was what I was served. Anyway, I would only give it 2 stars, but the location was wonderful. Very nice taking a stroll along the lake after dinner was done.

Talk about a dream wedding location, we had our wedding reception here. Even with the one bad apple (another great restaurant), I cannot give this place a bad rating. The Chicago Yacht club location is the best the City of Chicago has to offer, we had an awesome time and our guests all told us that this was by far the best reception they had ever been to. I cannot be happier with our choice of having the reception here, except for a small snafu. The view cannot be beat by any other venue in Chicago. Again, Hands down, the best location, view, you name it, you cannot beat this venue's location for a wedding reception in the city of Chicago. The wedding planner that is included with the venue has done her fair share of weddings, she is an expert for what they can do to make this an experience like no other place. The food was well prepared and the plate was more than you would get at other weddings, this I can promise you. Along with the different packages, they were very accommodating should you have a need or change. I am sure I keep writing, but should you want to know more, let me know...

On a recent visit to Chicago on business, I went to the Chicago Yacht Club with a co-worker / friend / member. It was after work in the afternoon and was serving as a precursor / happy hour prior to a dinner later that evening. Let me say that the view is spectacular and the history of the regata and all of the winners' trophies that are present is super interesting. I found those aspects of the Yacht Club to be relaxing and refreshing after a long day of negotiations. The service was also on par with what I would expect as a Southerner from a Country Club-esque type facility - which is what the Yacht Club was to me... like a Country Club. The service is attentive without being overly hovering. The drinks (mixed) and the wine selection were just A-OK though. I wouldn't say that they made any spectacular signature drinks (I tried a couple on their menu) and their wine selection was a little below par from what I have experienced from Country Clubs in the South. Given this review is based upon enjoying a happy hour, that's why they receive an A-OK. The next time that I am in Chicago in the late Spring or Summer, I'll be sure to try to return for an actual meal while overlooking the lake. Until then, the A-OK stands.

I'm a big fan. I've been several times for work functions and have always enjoyed it. The food is amazing and the staff is great. Plus it doesn't hurt that I love collecting a different yacht club piece of clothing when I go. If you ever get a chance to go, go. Also get their signature dessert, it's tasty!

Great Brunch. Went with my cousin who is a member, and enjoyed the buffet a lot. Beautiful views, beautiful boats, beautiful food. I think I'm gonna park my yacht here.

*Members only club* Delicious food. Sundays there is "Q with a view" which is a buffet of barbecue foods. They have gorgeous seating right next to the boats and the water as well as a full menu throughout the week. Closed Mondays. I recommend the bison burger

Beautiful! All the boats looked so good! The walking area that surrounded the club was well kept and there were many people that seemed to be just enjoying the day. Great view

Chicago Yacht Club

Organized in 1875 in the City of Chicago as an association of 37 yachtsmen, the Chicago Yacht Club is one of the oldest clubs in the United States. Known for their commitment to promoting the sport of sailing, the club is host to the venerable Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac. CYC is also a leader in teaching children and adults to sail, having provided sailing lessons for more than 85 years.

Stories from Chicago Yacht Club

The Chicago Yacht Club was organized at the Sherman House in the City of Chicago in 1875, as an association with a membership of 37 men. The first year there were 50 charter members with a $5 initiation fee and $4 dues, paid semi-annually. In 1898, the club hosted the first Chicago-Mackinac Race as an informal contest between five boats. William Cameron’s 64′ fin-keel sloop Vanenna won the race with a time of 51 hours. The 289.4 nautical mile race is now one of the oldest annual freshwater distance races in the world, with more than 355 boats entered and approximately 3,500 crew participating. Racers who compete in 25 Mackinac Races are invited to join the exclusive Island Goats Sailing Society, originally named for the sailors’ appearance, aroma and behavior upon reaching Mackinac Island.
