Shovel Knight developers’ next game is a Zelda-like you play as a mouse

Mina the Hollower is inspired by the Game Boy Color era

Yacht Club Games, the developer behind the Shovel Knight series , announced its next game at the Yacht Club Games Presents stream on Tuesday. The studio’s next title will be an original adventure inspired by the Game Boy Color. It’s called Mina the Hollower.

The game is still early in development, Yacht Club said, and the studio is seeking funding through a Kickstarter campaign that’s live now. “We want your feedback, collaboration, and support in making Mina the Hollower the best game it can possibly be,” the developers said.

The developers released a trailer alongside its Mina the Hollower reveal. In the game, you play as Mina, a mouse who fights her way through various dungeons using a whip and other items. Like Shovel Knight , Mina features an 8-bit art style — the game’s visuals look a lot like a souped-up version of the Game Boy Color game The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening from 1993. The Kickstarter page says that the team plans create a game that runs in “smooth 60 [frames-per-second] action combat.”

Yacht Club released the indie darling Shovel Knight in 2014 after a successful crowdfunding campaign. Since then, the iconic shovel-wielding knight has gone on to inspire a series of spinoffs games and sequels, and even get cameos in games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate . The team announced its other upcoming title, Shovel Knight Dig , in 2019. Yacht Club’s most recently released game, Shovel Knight: Pocket Dungeon , was released in 2021 across multiple platforms.

Yacht Club Games has announced a brand-new project in the Shovel Knight franchise. Fans have long-anticipated a new mainline Shovel Knight game. There have been various DLC expansions to the game, and even new spin-off titles, such as Shovel Knight Dig. However , fans of Yacht Club Games have been wondering what's next for the company and hoping for a release that further iterates on the Shovel Knight formula.

In the meantime, Yacht Club Games has been busy at work. Shovel Knight Dig expanded on the lore of the series and allowed players to see the action hero in a different visual style. The upcoming release Mina the Hollower signals that the company intends to continue making games that utilize retro esthetics similarly to Shovel Knight while providing a new character, story, and style of gameplay.

While it is possible to beat Shovel Knight Dig fairly quickly, there are several ways that players can extend their time with the game.

Yacht Club Games has officially announced work on a new Shovel Knight project. It was emphasized during the June 14 Yacht Club Games Presents that this release will not be a sequel, rather, a step in a different direction for the Shovel Knight franchise . This has led to a resulting wave of speculation and excitement on social media. The indie developer promises its fans that the new release will offer "groundbreaking, innovative gameplay," and be a "bold new adventure." Attentive fans have been pointing to the change in the company's logo as the biggest hint for what may come next.

Yacht Club Games Announces New Shovel Knight Project

Yacht Club Games has set somewhat of a precedent when it comes to logo changes. When playing Shovel Knight , gamers are treated to a pixelated version of the company logo. Usually the Yacht Club Games logo appears in a flat 2d design, and the company has changed its logo on April Fools to a smiling version of their yacht. During the Yacht Club Games Presents , a redesign of the logo was shown off and given a 360-degree view. The Yacht Club Games logo having characteristics of polygons in classic 3D games has led Shovel Knight fans to predict that the game will be a 3D release in the same vein as Mario 64 , which would make sense, considering the respect and homage that the Shovel Knight series often pays to the legacy of gaming.

In addition, Yacht Club games has made plenty of other announcements. Shovel Knight Dig and Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon are both receiving new DLC, along with sales that will take place from June 17-27 on Steam and June 14-27 on Switch. A PlayStation sale is to be announced at a later date. Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope will have sales from June 14-27 on Switch, Humble, and GOG, and June 17-27 on Steam, with PlayStation and Xbox sales coming later. An enhanced version of this release called Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope DX has also been announced.

New Shovel Knight game in development

Yacht Club Games officially premiered a new presentation earlier today, which was heavily focused on Shovel Knight to celebrate the franchise’s 10th anniversary. Many things were announced, including an enhanced version of the original Shovel Knight , but the final announcement of the presentation was the biggest one of all.

Yacht Club Games ended the presentation by announcing that a brand new Shovel Knight game is currently in development. The company says that the game is not a sequel, but “a bold new adventure that will launch Shovel Knight into an entirely new dimension of gaming”. It will “honor the legacy” of Shovel Knight, but also provide “groundbreaking, innovating gameplay mechanics”.

Lastly, the game will have “electrifying action, richer mechanics, and all the timeless charm you expect from a Shovel Knight title”. There is no release date at this time, and availability on platforms such as the Nintendo Switch isn’t known at this time. For now, Yacht Club Games recommends players play previous games in the franchise because they all have “hidden details” relating to the new game.

I’m more excited for Mina the Hollower

Mina looks cool and fun. It’s a bit exciting to think that a 3D Shovel Knight is on the way, but since they didn’t show anything definitive about it I can understand the lack of hype. Mina at least has an entire demo out, and it’s already looking like a great game. Can’t wait for it

There’s a demo? Is it public or just for the kickstarter backers?

Oh, actually I don’t know. I know that a few streamers and lets players got to try it out, but I never played it myself.

Is Shovel Knight Dig worth it? I’m not too big on roguelikes, but there are a few I’ve had some fun with. I really liked the original Shovel Knight games, but was originally turned away from Dig when I heard it was Roguelike

I found it a little disappointing but I think I’ve been too spoiled by Dead Cells and Hades in terms of rogue likes. Dig just got really repetitive to me real quick. The gameplay itself is fun but there isn’t enough variety early on to keep it fresh and interesting imo.

I’d definitely recommend it! The music and visuals are both absolutely phenomenal and pretty flawless for my tastes. The gameplay is great and tons of fun, plus it’s pretty addicting haha. I’d say it doesn’t overstay it’s welcome and gave me about 10-15 hours total before I beat it and called it, there. I’d say for someone that doesn’t sink dozens (or hundreds) of hours into roguelikes, it’s a great time. It’s good to play through, beat once, and not return to very often. For the sale I’d definitely recommend it. It doesn’t slog on or have too many big difficulty spikes to make it inaccessible to those not heavy into them like others in the genre

I didn’t like it very much, if you have Netflix you have it for free so give it a shot there!

Mina The Hollower Is The Next Game From Shovel Knight Developer Yacht Club Games

Shovel Knight developer Yacht Club Games has announced a brand-new title in the works called Mina The Hollower, an action adventure game with a Game Boy Color aesthetic reminiscent of old-school titles like Castlevania and The Legend of Zelda.

Yacht Club Games announced its new game during the Yacht Club Presents showcased that was teased last week. During the show, Yacht Club Games also announced that Mina the Hollower will have a Kickstarter and that those that want to contribute to the game's development can do so right now via its Kickstarter page .

According to the game's Kickstarter page, you play as Mina, an inventor who is tasked with traveling to Tenebrous Isle to fix some Spark Generators which have been destroyed in suspicious circumstances. With your Castlevania-esque whip, you'll battle monsters of varying sizes to discover the dark secrets of the island.

As with most Kickstarters, there are rewards for backers who contribute to the pot more than others. Donating $20 will get you a digital copy of the game when it releases while a sizable donation of $100 gets you a physical copy along with the chance to listen in on design meetings.

Thanks to this physical copy reward tier, we know that Yacht Club games has plans to bring Mina the Hollower to all platforms, although the developer does note that the platforms shown are "subject to change." We also have a very vague release date as rewards are expected to go out during December 2023, although it's also quite likely this is just a placeholder date.

If you're a Shovel Knight fan and were hoping that a sequel was going to be announced today, have no fear as Yacht Club Games has stated that it isn't giving up on the franchise just yet and has long-term plans in the series. It's possible that a full-blown sequel to Shovel Knight is in the works, but for now, Mina the Hollower is all the rage.

Yacht Club announces Shovel Knight ‘definitive edition’ with 20 playable characters

Shovel Knight launched a decade ago, and developer Yacht Club Games is marking the milestone with a bang. During the 20-minute Yacht Club Games Presents showcase, the studio made a number of announcements about its upcoming releases.

Shovel Knight Dig will receive Wicked Wishes DLC and will be launched on Xbox and PlayStation “real soon.” Pocket Dungeon is getting the Paradox Pack DLC with new characters, stages, and music by Jake Kaufman. Online multiplayer and cross-platform play is also in the works. Fans were hype for more gameplay footage from Yacht Club’s upcoming IP Mina the Hollower, but the final announcement was the biggest.

Shovel Knight originally launched with the Shovel of Hope campaign, where the titular character travels across the land, defeats the eight members of The Order of No Quarter and rescues Shield Knight. Following this successful release three more campaigns were launched where you can play as three different members of the Order: Plague Knight, Specter Knight, and King Knight. Since then fans have asked what about the others? Will we ever get to dig like Mole Knight, swashbuckle like Propeller Knight, or ride a mech like Tinker Knight? It turns out the answer is yes, but also that so much more is to come.

Shovel Knight DX will be the definitive edition of the Shovel of Hope campaign and features 20 playable characters. Not all of the characters have been announced yet, but all eight members of the order will be present, as well as other notable characters like Mona, the Enchantress, and Black Knight. If you can think of a Shovel Knight character, it’s likely that you can play as them in Shovel Knight DX, though the graceful Troupple King seems to have been unfortunately excluded. 

Each character will play how they did in the original campaign. If you remember a flashy move from a character’s original fight, it’s likely that you’ll be able to pull it off yourself in Shovel Knight DX. There’s no release date or platform announcement for this yet, but Yacht Club has said that, in true Shovel Knight style, the team aims to release it on every platform possible.

Yacht Club Games Presents Looks at Upcoming Shovelry

Shovels to the future.

Well folks, I completely forgot that today was the day for Yacht Club Games Presents, despite writing up the announcement recently . But fret not, since now this belated fanboy is all caught up, and eager to share the high notes of the presentation with you. Not only did this celebrate the 10th anniversary of Shovel Knight , but it announced upcoming DLC for two games, a remastered, definitive edition of the original game, a recap for Mina the Hollower and more.

First, let’s talk about what’s coming soon. Both Shovel Knight: Pocket Dungeon and Shovel Knight Dig have DLC hitting this Summer! Here’s what fans can expect from both:

Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon: Paradox Pack – This free DLC pack features Mod Support (PC only), new playable characters, new stages, secrets, challenges, and more! The game is also 50% off on all participating platforms.

Shovel Knight Dig: Wicked Wishes – The final free DLC pack for Shovel Knight Dig. It is chock-full of adventure, quests, new bosses & more! Shovel Knight Dig will also be coming to Xbox & PlayStation platforms. The game is 50% off on all participating platforms.

That’s not all, though. There was also a lengthy (and dramatic) recap on Mina the Hollower , and while it’s true it didn’t end with a release date or window, they showed off a lot of new content. Better yet, they promise more news is coming soon.

But perhaps the most surprising reveal was Shovel of Hope DX . This definitive edition of the game that started it all promises to be a ton of fun:

This brand new title is an enhanced edition of the original adventure with an array of exciting new features such as 20 new playable characters, online multiplayer, rewind/save states, cheats, and more.

There was even talk of new merchandise collaborations between Yacht Club Games and Insert Coin, Sanshee, Fangamer, Symbiote Studios and Udon, live events in California and more. But perhaps the most exciting was the announcement of an entirely new game in-development, that promises not to just be a mere Shovel Knight sequel.

Yacht Club Games reveals details for two new titles in the works

Shovel Knight originally launched in 2014, and while it took much longer than many expected, development on the original 8-bit platformer finally concluded late last year. So, what’s next for Yacht Club Games? Today, they decided to tell us. Shovel Knight’s adventures will continue in a very different form with Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon . Additionally, Yacht Club shared some more details regarding an already announced title, Cyber Shadow .

The Shovel rides on

Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon is an offshoot of the core Shovel Knight experience. The new game is a partnership between Yacht Club Games and developer VINE. The studio announced on Twitter that it has been working on the new puzzler for more than a year. Not only that, some gameplay was shown off in a video released by the newly formed dev-duo. https://twitter.com/VINE2D/status/1232720040396492806?s=20 Much like other Shovel Knight experiences, Yacht Club Games will launch this mini adventure on PC via Steam, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and the Nintendo Switch. One could only guess that we will see Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon find a home on the next generation of consoles, which will probably mean more content down the road.

When the world needs a ninja

As mentioned, Yacht Club Games brought two titles to the table today. The other is Cyber Shadow , originally revealed last year. We haven’t seen much of it since, however, and today’s new story trailer provided a fresh look at it. This game seems like a much faster experience, relying more on your platforming and hack-n-slash skills. It promises combat, enemy hordes, and traps. And it seems like it will be a test of your reflexes, having you nimbly making your way through the remnants of Mekacity. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61Wt1bvpEB4 In the game, you play as Shadow, who exists in a world “taken over by synthetic lifeforms.” The game was developed by Aarne “MekaSkull” Hunziker, which is remarkable being that its a one-person team. At this time, the only promise of release is sometime in the fall of 2020. It too will release on all platforms. But, it will come to Game Pass on both Xbox One and PC. It’s asking price is $14.99 USD. Both games were part of the Yacht Club Games Presents , a video segment that showed off the two titles.

Rumors hint that Greta Gerwig is in line to make a Fight Club reboot with an all-female cast, leaving fans wondering if it is happening.

Rumors About Greta Gerwig's All-Female Fight Club Reboot Explained

A post on X (formerly Twitter) seemingly posted by Discussing Film appears to tease that Barbie director Greta Gerwig is in line to direct a reboot of 1999's Fight Club . It is said to be an all-female reboot featuring Barbie 's Margot Robbie and Mad Max: Fury Road 's Charlize Theron.

The post, which includes the following text, is currently going viral on social media:

"The all female reboot of 'Fight Club' is moving forward at Fox with Greta Gerwig set to direct. Margot Robbie and Charlize Theron are in talks to star. (Source: Deadline)"

This post is verifiably fake, as Discussing Film never shared this rumor on any of its social media accounts. 

It is also important to remember that 20th Century Fox is now a Disney entity. That division now produces films under the 20th Century Studios banner, and Fox does not technically exist anymore.

Concept trailers for a potential Fight Club 2 have also been floating around online. These trailers are also fake and made using footage from the original film mixed with AI.

Will There Be a Fight Club Reboot or Sequel?

As of writing, no official  Fight Club  remake is in development, and no sequel to the original 1999 movie is planned.

There are two sequel comics to the original 1996  Fight Club , released in 2015 and 2019, respectively.

Gerwig already has plenty of work ahead of her following her Oscar-nominated work on Barbie . She is working on two movies based on the Chronicles of Narnia book series for Netflix . She is also working with her husband, Noah Baumbach, on a new untitled film for Netflix featuring George Clooney and Adam Sandler.

Robbie's next project is A Big Bold Beautiful Journey , in which she is the leading actor. The cast also includes  Colin Farrell , Jodie Turner-Smith, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Filming is ongoing and will be released in theaters on May 9, 2025.

Meanwhile, Theron is expected to be back on the big screen, reprising her role as Cipher in the 11th Fast & Furious movie, which is scheduled to debut in theaters in Summer 2026.

Fight Club is streaming on Hulu .

Construction on the 35-acre property was as much about flowers and sculptures as it was about nails and beams. Gardens were modeled on the palaces of Europe. Recent additions to The Ocean Club’s illustrious legacy include a new Tom Weiskopf-designed golf course and a restaurant from chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. And earlier this year, current operators, The Four Seasons, announced perhaps the most significant development to the resort since its opening—a development of turnkey residences.

Anticipated for 2027, The Ocean Club Four Seasons Residences will see the addition of 67 seaside homes spread across four low-rise buildings. Residences will sit adjacent to the resort and feature a dedicated team providing residents with the same white-glove service that has long defined any Four Seasons hospitality stay. Owners will also have access to the offerings at The Ocean Club. Planned amenities are plush, including spa treatments, a rum-tasting room and an owners-only pool with private cabanas.

The Four Seasons announcement could not have come at a better time for the island. According to the Bahaman Ministry of Tourism, nearly 10 million visitors arrived in Nassau and Paradise Island last year, a record high. Arrivals for the first half of 2024 have already surpassed the same period from the year prior.

Steady popularity has spurred, or perhaps is the result of, a wave of development elsewhere on the island. The Atlantis Paradise Island, the area’s largest resort, just completed a $150 million renovation. Extensive upland and marina improvements were recently made to the Hurricane Hole Superyacht Marina for $200 million. Now, with the upcoming Ocean Club Four Seasons Residences, it seems paradise just keeps improving.

What is the 40/40 club? Shohei Ohtani joins elite MLB group

Shohei Ohtani reached a historic milestone on Friday night with the Los Angeles Dodgers , becoming the sixth player in MLB history to reach 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases. Ohtani hit a walk-off grand slam against the Tampa Bay Rays after stealing his 40th base earlier in the game.

Here are the MLB players who have hit at least 40 home runs and stolen 40 bases in a season.

Ronald Acuna Jr. -- 41 home runs, 73 stolen bases (2023)

One of the more recent members of the 40/40 club. The Atlanta Braves slugger capped a historic season with his first MVP award. With the feat, he not only joined the club, but also started a new one: the 40/70.

Career highlights

Alfonso Soriano -- 46 home runs, 41 stolen bases (2006)

In his lone season with the Washington Nationals , Soriano matched his all-time high in stolen bases while setting a career high in home runs to join the 40/40 club.

Alex Rodriguez -- 42 home runs, 46 stolen bases (1998)

At age 22, Rodriguez showcased both power and speed, joining the 40/40 club as a member of the Seattle Mariners . He wouldn't steal more than 28 bases in a season afterward, but his home run total climbed until the end of his playing career.

Barry Bonds -- 42 home runs, 40 stolen bases (1996)

Bonds wasn't known for just smashing balls over the fence. Before his 1996 season, he already had 340 stolen bases. In his 11th year, after flirting with the 40/40 club a few times, he finally made his membership official with the San Francisco Giants .

Jose Canseco -- 42 home runs, 40 stolen bases (1988)

The 40/40 club's inaugural member is Jose Canseco, who accomplished the feat with the Oakland Athletics the year he won MVP. Along with punching his ticket to the club, he led the majors in home runs, RBIs and slugging percentage.

Dodgers fans line up in droves for hours for special shohei ohtani, dog bobblehead.

A bobblehead of Shohei Ohtani and his furry friend Decoy drew long lines outside of Dodger Stadium —hours ahead of Wednesday’s game between the Dodgers and Orioles. 

Video and pictures posted to social media showed fans lining up as early as noon PT to get into a game that didn’t begin until 7:10 p.m. 

The bobblehead — that featured a gold Ohtani holding Decoy in his arms — was being given out to the first 40,000 fans who entered the stadium.

Naturally, Ohtani was the first person to receive a bobblehead as he arrived to the ballpark before the game.

The Dodgers captured the moment in a video posted to social media. 

Ohtani also had Decoy with him as he arrived at Dodger Stadium.

Outside, long lines of fans anxiously waited in anticipation of grabbing one of the coveted giveaways, with ESPN reporting fans were making big lines over three hours before game time.

An aerial video from Fox LA showed long lines of fans on Stadium Wa, and a video from NBC Los Angeles showed the massive traffic delay trying to get off the highway at 2:50 local time.

And, right before the game, the dog did the honors of the ceremonial first pitch, running a ball right to Ohtani.

Ohtani is one of baseball’s biggest names , not just in Los Angeles but across the globe. 

Decoy became a topic of conversation during the offseason after Ohatni was coy for a while about what the dog’s name was.

He eventually revealed it during his introductory press conference in Los Angeles. 

“I figured it would be hard for American people to pronounce it,” Ohtani told reporters back in December about Decoy’s name.
