We love all of the sweets and treats that come along with the holidays.

yacht and beach club gingerbread

When it comes to the holiday season at Disney World, we’re not sure anything can quite compare. From the decorations in the parks to the gingerbread displays at the resorts, they make sure the season is nothing short of festive. We just got word on a new gingerbread creation taking shape at one of the resorts!

There is a brand new gingerbread creation in the works at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort ! We got a chance to take a look at it recently, and so far, we are pretty impressed.  Everyone was hard at work bringing this masterpiece to life.

yacht and beach club gingerbread

This gingerbread display is new for this year and is going to take the shape of a lighthouse, similar to the one that is located outside the resort!

yacht and beach club gingerbread

This is a first for the Yacht Club, and we are super excited to see it once it is finished. You can find it in the lobby, and the gingerbread creation will be surrounded by a whimsical village, complete with a little train!

The model train has its own specific set of hours, too! If you want to see it in action, make sure you visit the lobby between:

  • 6AM – 11AM
  • 9AM – 11AM
  • 12PM – 2PM
  • 3PM – 5PM
  • 6PM – 8PM
  • 9PM – 11PM

Disney previously shared that there will also be a holiday pop-up shop that will include some sweet treats, including a new lighthouse fudge. We spoke to a Cast Member about it, and they said that the pop-up may not be happening due to staffing issues. If that’s the case, be sure to head over to the Beach Club since the lighthouse fudge will be available there as well!

This year, the gingerbread displays are at five other resorts! Don’t forget to go check them out.

  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge
  • Disney’s Beach Club Resort
  • Disney’s BoardWalk Resort
  • Disney’s Contemporary Resort
  • Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

Disney World’s Brilliant New Gingerbread Display

yacht and beach club gingerbread

Gingerbread houses and displays are almost all up at Walt Disney World for Christmas 2023, with over a half-dozen larger-than-life displays in the resort hotels. For this year’s holiday season, there’s one newcomer: a luminous lighthouse at Yacht Club that’s brilliant and bold.

If you’ve never seen the various ‘edible creations’ and other displays during the holiday season at Walt Disney World, we would  strongly encourage  you to make time for them. Our  Self-Guided Yuletide Tour of Walt Disney World is a great place to start, and makes for a fun Christmas experience on your day outside the parks. It’s also great for getting a taste of the higher end resorts if you’re staying at one of the Value or Moderate Resorts.

That itinerary is a popular ( and recommended ) thing to do in the morning before attending Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party so you don’t waste a park day of your normal tickets. This year, I actually switched things up and did the monorail loop prior to MVMCP and the Crescent Lake resorts prior to Disney Jollywood Nights . The approach worked really well, and I’ll start with a quick play-by-play for anyone who wants to replicate what I did…

  • EPCOT International Gateway
  • Walk to Beach Club Resort
  • Beaches & Cream To-Go Window (Butter Pecan-Pumpkin Milkshake)
  • Walk to Yacht Club Resort
  • Walk to BoardWalk Inn
  • Walk back to International Gateway
  • Skyliner to Riviera Resort
  • Let Petit Cafe (Pumpkin Napoleon)
  • Primo Piatto (Pumpkin-Hazelnut-Chocolate Swirl Cheesecake)
  • Walk to Caribbean Beach
  • Banana Cabana (Banana Cabana Burger)
  • Walk to CBR Skyliner Station
  • Arrive at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

If you wondered why I didn’t focus on food during Disney Jollywood Nights… the above is your answer! All of that was excellent, especially the Pumpkin Napoleon at Le Petit Cafe. I always balk at the prices there since they’re a few dollars more expensive than average Walt Disney World counter service desserts, but the difference is evident in the quality. But I digress.

yacht and beach club gingerbread

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort received a new gingerbread addition for Christmas 2023, a quarter-scale replica of its iconic lighthouse. This is the first time the resort has had its own gingerbread display, and it’s in addition to the miniature Christmas model railroad village, which is an annual tradition.

Between this new lighthouse and the return of the gingerbread giraffe and zebra, this year marks a high-water mark for gingerbread displays at Walt Disney World. At least, to the best of my recollection. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort used to do one in the aughts and Wilderness Lodge had an awesome log cabin in 2019, but those were not simultaneous.

With these additions, Christmas 2023 should have the most gingerbread displays ever at Walt Disney World. Just thought that was worth noting, as we’re so used to Disney taking things away for the holiday season rather than making additions. As a whole, there’s still a lot less than a decade ago, but at least the gingerbread display count is up!

yacht and beach club gingerbread

As for the new luminous lighthouse gingerbread display, it has a working light inside that rotates. (Hence us calling it “luminous” and “brilliant.” Get it?!?)

The lighthouse is adorned with small Christmas wreaths covered in red berries and bows. The whole display sits in a bed of flowers and greenery, and looks quite nice.

yacht and beach club gingerbread

Admittedly, if I had to rank all of the gingerbread displays in isolation, the lighthouse would be fairly low on the list. Especially after having just been in Beach Club–the carousel there is the best I’ve seen in several years. (I don’t care for the DuckTales decals, but the horses and dimensional characters are excellent!)

If I could choose between this lighthouse or getting back the log cabin at Wilderness Lodge, I’d choose the latter without hesitation. And that’s not just my Wilderness Lodge bias talking! That display was more elaborate and visually engaging, and enhanced the already-amazing lobby of Wilderness Lodge.

yacht and beach club gingerbread

With that said, this gingerbread lighthouse should not be viewed in isolation. It sits right beside the fan-favorite Christmas village, and almost feels like a punctuation mark on that. It’s like a wienie, in Walt’s words, that beckons guests over to the model railroad display.

As odd as this may sound, it really reminds me of Storybook Land Canal Boats at Disneyland. Specifically, the reveal of the village of Arendelle with the Matterhorn towering in the background. Obviously, a very different setup, but a (somewhat?) similar idea.

All of this is to say that even though the gingerbread lighthouse at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is somewhat simple as compared to the displays at the other Deluxe Resorts, it really does add a lot to the overall slate of Christmas decorations. Here are more photos:

yacht and beach club gingerbread

This new gingerbread lighthouse further cements our opinion that Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is an underrated resort at Christmas.

As for the why of that, it’s largely due to the difference in the hotel’s vibe during the holidays versus the rest of the year. One common complaint about Yacht Club is that it’s too stuffy, with more of an ‘adult’ atmosphere versus the playful, family-friendly sensibility at other Walt Disney World resorts. Some people say it isn’t “Disney” enough, and while I’d definitely disagree with that (thematically, it’s incredibly strong, it just has a different aura than what fans are used to elsewhere), I get what people mean by that.

yacht and beach club gingerbread

As discussed in our Beach Club vs. Yacht Club comparison, this is even more pronounced when going between the two resorts. Although the sister hotels basically function as a single entity with similar “aquatic” and “club” themes, they are worlds apart in terms of ambiance and vibe.

Enter the Christmas season. The lights, trees, wreaths, and other decor around the lobby ‘soften’ the mood, and make the environment much more warm and welcoming. There’s a palpable sense of holiday spirit in the air at Christmas, and Yacht Club feels ‘dressed down’ as compared to the rest of the year.

In fact, it’s downright comfy and cozy, while still feeling upscale and luxurious. Truly the time of year when Yacht Club strikes the best balance!

yacht and beach club gingerbread

The family friendly atmosphere is owing entirely to Yacht Club’s Christmas railway diorama.

While it wasn’t possible on this particular day, one of my favorite things to do is heading to Yacht Club after a late night at EPCOT, having this Christmas railroad diorama all to myself, and poring over its details. It receives refreshes most years, with the main changes for Christmas 2023 being a bunch of little Disney100 details.

yacht and beach club gingerbread

One of the coolest things about this diorama is that it’s one part elaborate, handmade railway modeling…and one-part product placement.

For those who aren’t aware, the vast majority (all?) of the Disney character elements of the diorama are from the Disney Department 56 Christmas Village Collection , which can be purchased from Amazon.com and arrive at your doorstep tomorrow .

yacht and beach club gingerbread

Over the years, Sarah and I have had some serious conversations about investing in this Christmas Village. Not so much for our own sake, but for our great-grandchildren who will undoubtedly cherish such a valuable family heirloom. Like LEGOs, many people say that Disney Christmas Villages can outperform the stock market over time ( citation needed ).

Unfortunately, we’re “going to go in a different direction” with our portfolio for now. But I’d like to think that in the future, we’ll diversify and increase our railroad holdings. (I’ve still got my eye on Mickey’s Ear Factory and Mickey’s Balloon Shop . These are 33% and 37% off for Black Friday, so we can’t afford not to buy these fine collectibles, right?!)

yacht and beach club gingerbread

Beyond the Christmas village and lighthouse, the other holiday decor at Yacht Club is thematically pitch-perfect. I’m also going to go out on a limb and say these are among the most expensive Christmas decorations at Walt Disney World, as fancy model yachts and boats adorn the trees and wreaths. Those can’t be cheap!

Yacht Club has an easy path to the “underrated” throne since it’s almost never mentioned in the same breath as the Walt Disney World Christmas heavyweights. Grand Floridian and Wilderness Lodge are definitely better during the holidays, but everyone knows it. They’re highly rated and the comparative crowds I encountered at those resorts reflect that. By contrast, Yacht Club generally flies under the radar…but maybe that’ll start to change this Christmas now that it has the gingerbread lighthouse!

YOUR THOUGHTS

What do you think of the new luminous lighthouse gingerbread display at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort for Christmas 2023? Do you think this is a nice edible addition that enhances the Christmas village train diorama, or would you prefer gingerbread display added elsewhere? My daughter and I just got back today from a quick Disney trip. We did the Gingerbread House tour yesterday and it was incredible! We visited Contemporary and Grand Floridian before we entered Magic Kingdom. Both were beautiful! After a few hours at MK, we bussed to Boardwalk and walked to Beach and Yacht. They were all so pretty and so detailed. The Carousel is amazing! Not big fans of the theme, but it was gorgeous!!! Loved the Lighthouse and train display. Unfortunately, it was after 5 and the train had stopped running for the day. It was so cool! BUT, it was so dark in the lobby, I didn’t see any of the intricate details you wrote about. It was hard to see anything! The Grand Floridian was definitely our fave!!!

' src=

I was not on board with the chocolate hazelnut cheesecake. it had no crust and was just a tiny bowl of mousse.

' src=

It was great bumping into you at the Yacht Club last week. Your pictures turned out amazing, as usual.

' src=

When do they typically take down these gingerbread “houses”?

' src=

Shhhhhh! We love that it flies under the radar! Yacht club is our favorite resort to relax and get away from the loud craziness of the parks. It’s also the only resort pool we use because it’s relatively quiet. We love the older, more adult atmosphere, quiet, relaxed atmosphere. It’s perfect!

' src=

If you really wanna get a good holiday village, many of the pieces in the Yacht Club display are from the 90s and way nicer than what’s currently on the market. The church is the Old North Church which you can currently pick up on eBay for ~$15. The Grand Flo has the Grapes Inn, similarly a steal used. I can heartily recommend almost all Department 56 villages from the 90s; they’re way nicer than the modern ones and the market on them has declined so much that they’re worth almost nothing. The original line of North Pole buildings, for instance, are very “Disney” and easy to complete at 9 buildings.

' src=

We love doing a gingerbread resort crawl. Hoping for 2024. HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO EVERYONE!

Disney’s Beach Club Gingerbread Carousel Features Little Mermaid Theme for 2021 (Photos, Video)

Hi everyone!

Disney’s Beach Club Gingerbread Carousel is now on display for the 2021 holiday season! We stopped by the resort yesterday as finishing touches were being added. The gingerbread display is themed to “The Little Mermaid” as well as Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary, “The World’s Most Magical Celebration”. Here are photos and video from yesterday!

yacht and beach club gingerbread

When we arrived, Cast Members were adding decorative touches like hidden Mickeys (with the help of young guests) and other flourishes.

yacht and beach club gingerbread

The photos I took are from while it was being worked on and then after the display was finished. Ahead is the Ariel horse. There are five total horses, four on the carousel and one nearby. They are: Ariel; King Triton; Ursula; Prince Eric and then Sebastian and Flounder for one horse. Above you can see the “50” for Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary and the snowflakes have an EARidescent look to them. A few hours after this photo, greenery had been added to hide the base. The carousel wasn’t yet spinning when we were there.

yacht and beach club gingerbread

Here is our video, followed by photos and information about this stunning display!

The Gingerbread Carousel is presented by the Yacht & Beach Club Bakery for its 21st year. It was not displayed last year, but turned 20 in 2019. The themes are different every year. 2019 was the first year where there was a single character theme (Peter Pan) .

The ingredients include 432 pounds of honey, 1200 pounds of rye flour, 100 pounds of eggs, 25 pounds of spices, 10 pounds of simple syrup, 200 pounds of icing, 10 quarts of egg whites, 100 pounds of confectioner’s sugar, 50 pounds of dark chocolate, 50 pounds of modeling chocolate, 200 gumpaste flowers, 20 pounds of Grand Marnier syrup, 2020 pieces of gingerbread and 21 gold hidden Mickeys – and lots of enthusiasm, energy and talent!

“Santa’s Nice List” includes pastry cooks and bakers who have been working since July on the gingerbread carousel.

“This Gingerbread Carousel was created for your pleasure by the cast of the Yacht and Beach Club Pastry Team. All decor is handcrafted edible gingerbread, sugar and chocolate. Pastry cooks and bakers have worked over 600 hours since July to accomplish this task. This earned them a spot on Santa’s nice list.”

There is also a “Naughty List”: Ursula, Flotsam and Jetsam earned their places on it.

Disney’s Beach Club Gingerbread Carousel is gorgeous, as always. And in addition to the carousel, guests can purchase treats. Keep reading!

We tried some gingerbread samples that were being passed out while the display was being detailed.

The Gingerbread Lighthouse Has Arrived at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort!

by Justin Hermes · November 9, 2023

Yacht Club Gingerbread Lighthouse

With the first Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party finally here, I think we can officially say that it is the holiday season at Walt Disney World.

While the Magic Kingdom gets most of the press during this time of year, Walt Disney World celebrates the holidays in a ton of unique ways.

yacht and beach club gingerbread

We have already brought you updates about Christmas descending on Disney Springs, and the gingerbread house officially opening at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort , however, now I want to turn your attention to Disney’s Yacht Club.

Yacht Club Gingerbread Lighthouse

In the Yacht Club lobby, artisans were hard at work today creating a gingerbread lighthouse, based on the resort’s iconic structure!

Yacht Club Gingerbread Lighthouse

using egg whites and gingerbread shingles, these Disney Cast Members have created an amazing structure.

Yacht Club Gingerbread Lighthouse

Here is a closer look at the construction, I truly don’t know how they do it.

Yacht Club Gingerbread Lighthouse

I love everything about this gingerbread lighthouse, it is the perfect way for the resort to celebrate the holidays!

Yacht Club Christmas Village

Not only will the Yacht Club be home to this impressive gingerbread lighthouse, but the resort’s iconic Christmas train has also returned.

Yacht Club Christmas village

The village will sit in front of the lighthouse, and as always, the setup looks amazing.

I love the nods to Cape May Cafe, Hurricane Hannah’s, and the Captan’s Grille!

Last but not least, here is a look at the train itself. As you can see on the passenger car, the Christmas railroad debuted in 1998!

Disney’s Beach Club DuckTales-Themed Gingerbread Carousel (2023 Photos and Videos)

Traditions are what makes Christmas at Walt Disney World so unique. One of our favorite traditions is visiting Disney’s Beach Club to see their annual gingerbread carousel. Each year, a new working carousel is installed in the center of the resort’s lobby. In 2023, the carousel’s theme celebrates DuckTales and Epcot’s World Showcase.

Since Disney’s Beach Club is near Epcot, you’ll almost always find a nod to the park represented in the carousel. But this year’s theme is inspired by Disney’s DuckTales World Showcase Adventure, an interactive game that guests can play while using the Play Disney Parks mobile app. The game encourages guests to help Huey, Dewey, Louie, and Webby follow clues to discover and return seven lost magic treasures to their owners.

We see elements of the game and the countries where the treasures are hidden referenced in this year’s carousel! What a fun idea, right? Below, we’ll preview photos, details, and a video of the gingerbread carousel.

The 2023 gingerbread display is surrounded by greenery and poinsettias in the Beach Club's lobby.

We stayed at Disney’s Beach Club the night before the carousel was constructed. So, the next day, we were able to see Disney chefs assembling the magnificent structure.

Chefs working to assemble the gingerbread carousel.

Each time we walked through the lobby, significant progress had been made.

Chefs surrounded by sheet tray racks and other things used to create the gingerbread carousel.

Decorative signage in front of the carousel reads:

“Greeting Adven-Sharers! This year’s carousel is themed after the DuckTales World Showcase Adventure at Epcot! Take a stroll over and play! Happy exploring and Happy Holidays! Woo-oo!”

A decorative sign made with fondant and icing that sits in front of the carousel sharing its theme for 2023.

On the opposite side of the display, another sign made from fondant and icing lists the ingredients used in the gingerbread carousel. They include:

  • 432 pounds of honey
  • 1200 pounds of rye flour
  • 100 pounds of eggs
  • 25 pounds of spices
  • 10 pounds of simple syrup
  • 200 pounds of icing
  • 10 quarts of egg whites
  • 100 pounds of confectioner’s sugar
  • 50 pounds of dark chocolate
  • 20 pounds of Grand Marnier
  • Lots of enthusiasm, energy, and talent.
  • 2022 pieces of gingerbread
  • 23 hidden gold Mickey’s…can you find them?

A decorative sign that lists the ingredients used to create the gingerbread display.

We returned to Disney’s Beach Club the next week to get a few photos of the finished product and other decorations at the resort. It turned out splendidly.

Unfortunately, I have not had a chance to play the game, so I’m sure what the globe on this carousel pony represents. But we can tell it’s a United Kingdom Pavilion-inspired horse with a nod to golf and butterflies.

Here is a closer look.

Next, we have a carousel horse inspired by the Germany Pavilion. This one’s mane and ponty tail is made up of chocolate curls!

Lastly, we have a pony inspired by the France Pavilion.

This one had many details, like French treats, books, an Eiffel Tower lamp with shade, and more. I’m sure if you’ve played the game, some of these details mean more to you than those of us who haven’t played it.

What I like most about this year’s display is now I want to try the game. So not only does it entertain, but it also inspires guests to try something new.

In addition to the gingerbread carousel, a pop-up shop selling Christmas treats is available in the Beach Club’s lobby.

Gingerbread Carousel Available at Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resort for only $45!

Gingerbread Carousel

What’s are some sweet treats that come to mind during the holiday season? For some of us, it’s the gingerbread houses! Of course, the bakers at Disney World always know how to impress us with their gingerbread treats. For instance, the new Gingerbread Carousel available at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resort. It’s an incredible holiday bakery item from Disney!

Gingerbread Carousel Available at Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resort for only $45!

It certainly looks like a work of art and we almost wish it could be kept as a display. But, it is completely edible and fills your stomach with Yuletide cheer! You can check out our Instagram video of it below. It’s quite magnificent to see in person!

There’s a fun candy piece on top that features both Ariel and Flounder from the Little Mermaid. The details are quite exquisite and makes us wish to see the life size gingerbread carousels of Christmas Past. However, it helps to have this delightful gingerbread display as a bakery item we can eat at home. Of course, it does carry a hefty price of $45.00 for the Gingerbread Carousel! But it’s not so bad considering this is big to share with others.

What do you think of the Gingerbread Carousel? Is it a Disney treat you would like to share with your loved ones this Christmas season?

PHOTOS: The AMAZING Gingerbread Carousel Has Arrived in Disney World!

By Kelly Oliveros Leave a Comment

Deck the halls, put on the holiday album from *NYSNC, and get ready to celebrate — the holidays are basically here!

yacht and beach club gingerbread

Disney’s Beach Club Resort

We’ve shared a look at some of the Disney holiday items you can get on Amazon, a holiday special coming to Disney+, and the holiday decorations that are already up in Disney World. But there’s an extra special holiday display that is up right now and it’s something you will NOT want to miss!

Giant Christmas trees in the parks, holiday merchandise, and holiday ride overlays — that’s what the season is made of in Disney World, right? While those are certainly some exciting parts of the holiday season, to really celebrate the merriest time of the year, you’ll also want to visit Disney World’s hotels!

At select hotels, you’ll find some INCREDIBLE gingerbread displays. While the display at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort is one that many are familiar with , the display over at Disney’s Beach Club Resort is one you absolutely won’t want to skip.

yacht and beach club gingerbread

Specifically, within the lobby of Disney’s Beach Club Resort, you’ll typically find an absolutely astonishing gingerbread carousel!

YALL! The Gingerbread Carousel has arrived at Disney’s Beach Club Resort! 🎄 pic.twitter.com/B4zaLVQFz2 — Disney Food Blog (@DisneyFoodBlog) October 31, 2022

It’s everything you want it to be — ginormous, incredibly detailed, and themed (of course) to some iconic Disney characters.

yacht and beach club gingerbread

There it is!

Last year the carousel was themed to  The Little Mermaid, and in 2019 it was themed to Peter Pan and in 2014 we saw the horses themed to some of the Fab 5 . But this year a bunch of the Disney Princesses have taken center stage! You can see the horses themed to Snow White…

There is also Princess Tiana…

We can’t get over how decorated these are!

Too pretty to eat!

Next, we have Princess Jasmine…

Finally, there is a Belle horse!

On this horse you can see the rose on the side…

The enchanted rose!

…and the mirror and some books on top!

yacht and beach club gingerbread

Which books are these?

Also part of this display is Santa’s Nice List! All of the names helped create this incredible gingerbread display, which took over 600 hours of work — it’s been under construction since July!

yacht and beach club gingerbread

AMAZING work everyone!

While you’re over here at Beach Club, you might also notice some other holiday decor that’s sprung up in the lobby.

yacht and beach club gingerbread

More decorations

Also, if you visit the gingerbread carousel, be sure to look for any potential samples that might be handed out. And remember, the carousel DOES actually spin!

You’ll also want to search nearby for the tasty treats that are typically offered for the holiday season over at The Market at Ale & Compass ,  Beach Club Marketplace , and the lobby of Disney’s Beach Club! In the past, we’ve seen crinkle cookies, fudge, gingerbread cookies (of course), and more available here.

I’m just imagining the time this takes to do every year. 😱😍 pic.twitter.com/CKn7wEZJyz — Disney Food Blog (@DisneyFoodBlog) October 31, 2022

Blitzen’s Baddies aim for strong finish to 2024 Newport Yacht Club’s racing season

Spencer Buchanan, from left, boat owner Brett Scott and Adam Bradley rig the Blitzen.

  • Copy Link URL Copied!

Challenges confronted the crew of the Blitzen from day one in their inaugural year competing in the Newport Harbor Yacht Club’s racing season. Their halyard broke during the opening day race in May, sending the wind-catching kite propelling their boat from Long Beach Harbor to Newport Pier tumbling into the ocean.

“There was no hesitation between this team,” Blitzen’s owner Brett Scott said. “Everyone grabbed the kite and in 20 seconds it was up and flying again.”

She has been sailing since she was 5. But her first year at the head of a team has taught her a lot about managing schedules, the personalities aboard the boat and finances, she said.

“Whenever something breaks it adds up, so I’m definitely not doing this for the money,” Scott said with a laugh. “Don’t take investment advice from me. But we’ve really bonded as a team, and I think that’s our greatest achievement.”

There were plenty of smirks, side-eye and playful jabs as she and the crew rigged the Blitzen Friday in preparation of Long Point Race week. The three-day race is the last competitive event of the yacht club’s season.

The first leg starts in Newport Harbor and ends at Catalina Island. Boats then sail to the opposite end of the island and back on day two before returning to Newport Harbor on day three.

The crew of the Blitzen prepares the boat Friday ahead of the Long Point Yacht Race.

Blitzen’s Baddies, as the crew refers to themselves on Instagram, are all experienced sailors and were optimistic about finishing strong in their first season as a team. They’ve had some success this summer, including third-, second- and first-place finishes in their class during the three days of Long Beach Racing Week in June.

“We keep getting better,” Scott said.

Crew member Tyler Macdonald said the hardest part about the season has been “dealing with Adam and Spencer,” drawing laughs from Adam Bradley, Spencer Buchanan and the rest of the team aboard the Blitzen on Friday. Teammate Matt Whitfield said the real challenge of each race lies in “the hangover afterwards.” Coincidentally, he said his favorite activity while sailing is when they crack open some beer mid-journey.

There’s no shortage of banter aboard the Blitzen. And the irreverent sense of humor of her crew is half the reason Scoot chose to have them aboard.

She grew up in Reno and traveled to Newport Beach every summer as a child to sail with her family. She fell in love with both the ocean and the tavern-style warmth of the community that welcomed her into the sport.

Boat owner Brett Scott, left, and crew member Scott Buchanan.

Her father, Bart Scott, said he wasn’t surprised to see her move to Newport Beach. He’s proud to see her fulfill her lifelong dream of owning a boat and fielding a racing team. And although she has a sense of humor, she runs a tight ship and commands the respect of her crew.

“Once we all come together on what a problem is there’s not a lot of back and forth or arguing,” Scott said. “They all just recognize what we each need to do and get it done.”

After Long Point, Blitzen’s Baddies plan on participating in small casual races while preparing for next season. They hope to compete in the Transpacific Yacht Race from San Pedro to Honolulu next July.

SeaDream Yacht Club – Caviar, Champagne and barbecue

All SeaDream Yacht Club voyages in the Caribbean include a signature Champagne & Caviar Splash beach party. Executive chef Elton Tabaj and his galley team transport the five-star kitchen from the yacht to the beach. Passengers are served a lavish beach barbecue, cooked to perfection. All guests don bathing suits and the captain joins in for an informal day playing Robinson Crusoe. In fact, be prepared to get soaking wet. You will arrive on the island via a Zodiac boat that shuttles passengers from the yacht directly to the white, sandy beach. I attended the beach party in White Bay on Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands during a recent cruise. What a great way to spend a winter afternoon! And the best part? Skip the high resort rates and book the intimate cruise with only 150 passengers.

Paris is always a good idea

The Olympics may be over, but we still can’t get enough of the French. A recent report from GlobalData announced that France is on track to become the most visited country by 2025, when 93.7 million international travelers are expected to visit there.

Delta Air Lines offers several options while traveling from Tampa to Paris. I usually stop in Atlanta to connect with Air France for a seamless experience. I recently discovered a “secret” and luxurious way to get to Europe. Friends rave about the 10-year-old French boutique airline called La Compagnie. The flights only depart from Newark Liberty International Airport, but it’s totally worth the trip to New Jersey. Once on board, the plane offers 76 seats that all turn into flatbeds. It’s a business-class airline experience to Paris, Milan or Nice. And the food is marvelous.

For the ultimate Parisian culinary experience, secure a table at Le Jules Verne. Located at the top of the Eiffel Tower, the views are spectacular from this world-famous restaurant. Watch the calendar and make sure to book 90 days in advance and be prepared to pay ahead as well (a $500 deposit is the norm for a table for two). When you factor in the advantage of skipping the long entry line and the overall once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of dining in the Eiffel Tower, the experience is well worth the cost. Perched at a height of 410 feet, you will even have your own private elevator to the restaurant. The dress code, an elegant outfit and no shorts or sportswear, is strictly enforced. Suit jackets are mandatory for men.

Closer to home, Travel + Leisure magazine recently named St. Petersburg the Best Food City in the U.S. We found a tiny slice of Paris in St. Petersburg. When you check in to the newly renovated Vinoy Resort, you’ll be invited on Friday and Saturday from 3-5 p.m. to meet the new executive pastry chef Armand Berger and sample complimentary Champagne and nibbles from Lottie, the new patisserie located in the hotel’s lobby.

Tropic Ocean Airways salutes Jimmy Buffett Day

Tropic Ocean Airways is the largest commercial amphibious airline and is ready to entertain all Parrotheads. To celebrate Jimmy Buffett Day on Aug. 30, they are launching an epic package with Baker’s Cay Resort, a nature-inspired luxury resort on the Overseas Highway in Key Largo. Inspired by the legendary singer-songwriter, this unique trip offers a fun-filled adventure over Labor Day weekend and includes a one-way Tropic Ocean Airways seaplane adventure for two departing from Sheltair Terminal at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and landing at Baker’s Cay Resort. The three-night waterfront king guest room package is valid only from Aug. 30 through Sept. 2. It includes complimentary return shuttle service to Miami International Airport or Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

The Resort at Longboat Key Club

Having more space is a priority for families. Nearly three in five guests say being able to fit all their family members in one place is a major deciding factor when booking a vacation. Some of the top trending destinations near the water for families this summer are Melbourne, Australia and Nassau, Bahamas.

We already live in paradise with a variety of resort options just a short drive away, no passport required. We talked to Diane Lopez, the director of resort operations at The Resort at Longboat Key Club near Sarasota, where the Gulf waters are beautiful, the beach cabanas are huge and the suites are grand. The two-bedroom suites overlook the pool and the Gulf of Mexico with a living room that includes a queen-sized sleeper sofa, a full kitchen, a washer and dryer and a private balcony. Don’t miss Latitudes restaurant for delicious menu options in the resort, offering both “land” (a 16-ounce rib-eye steak) and “sea” (spiny lobster curry) options with Ed Geyfman as executive chef. Great to find out a kids dinner menu is available. Grown-ups will love checking out the resort’s Tavern & Whiskey Bar with over 100 different types of whiskey.

Sports are key here on the Key. Briana François is the director of racquet sports, tennis and pickleball and reports that there are eight new pickleball courts at the resort. They have lessons almost daily. The resort store supports local women-owned vendors. Peaceful tip: Check out the many treatment rooms and new sound therapy beds in the spa. Naps encouraged!
