Each year SiriusXM’s Yacht Rock Radio reignites some ongoing, mostly playful skirmishes among radio people and music fans. Is “Yacht Rock” what the term’s creators define it as — ’70s/early-’80s soft rock with some element of R&B/jazz/disco fusion? Is it what SXM plays — a wider version of soft pop from the late ’70s/early ’80s? Why are we canonizing this music from pop music’s doldrums in the first place?
But if you’re eager to play along with that discussion, SXM has just launched Yacht Soul, as a pop-up format currently appearing on SiriusXM’s channel 105 through July 8, after which time it will remain available on the SXM app. The channel is hosted by George Benson, whose reminiscences about songs and artists are interspersed several times an hour.
The new channel is a reminder of R&B’s place at the center of yacht rock. However much weight you want to put on them at a fraught time for pop music, I’d rather hear Benson’s “Give Me the Night” or “Turn Your Love Around” than a lot of other hits from the same period. In turn, Benson, Quincy Jones, Al Jarreau, and George Duke & Stanley Clarke were chief among the artists who were able to cross over during the worst moments of the “disco backlash” that kept other great things happening in R&B away from pop radio in 1980-82.
Like SXM’s Yacht Rock Radio, Yacht Soul is a broad mix of mellow R&B from the same era. The hook promos include some things that seem defining (Dennis Edwards’ “Don’t Look Any Further,” Bobby Caldwell’s “What You Won’t Do for Love,” Chaka Khan’s “Through the Fire”) and others that feel less likely (Evelyn King’s “Love Come Down,” Diana Ross’ “Love Hangover,” Natalie Cole’s “Sophisticated Lady”). Chances are you just disagreed with at least one of my characterizations. Such is the discussion.
Here’s Yacht Soul at 9:30 a.m. on July 3:
- Fourplay, “101 Eastbound” — early ’90s instrumental that seems like more of a fit for Smooth Jazz
- Brothers Johnson, “Strawberry Letter 23”
- Quincy Jones f/Patti Austin, “Something Special”
- Kool & the Gang, “Too Hot” — preceded by a vignette of George Benson talking about witnessing the band’s ascent
- Brenda Russell, “New York Bars” — her hits (“So Good So Right” and “Piano in the Dark”) were nearly a decade apart, in 1979 and 1988; this is from a 1983 album
- Bill Withers, “Lovely Day”
- Patti Labelle, “New Attitude”
- Manhattans, “Shining Star”
- Average White Band, “School Boy Crush”
- L.T.D., “Love Ballad” — Benson talks about hearing the original for the first time: “One of the best songs I ever heard.” Later, he would have a 1979 hit with his own uptempo version
- Atlanta Rhythm Section, “So Into You” — It did crack the R&B chart (No. 93) in 1977. Not the hit single, but what sounded like a longer album version
- William DeVaughn, “Be Thankful for What You Got” — 1974 hit that seems prescient in this context
- Bee Gees, “How Deep Is Your Love”
- Lionel Richie, “All Night Long (All Night)”
- El DeBarge, “Someone”
- George Benson, “This Masquerade” — Benson talks about not knowing the Leon Russell original, or Russell, when the song was brought to him, and his initial reluctance to cover it, or include a vocal on the Breezin’ album

Remember Me
Hey Sean, Checking out Yacht Soul a bit. A little surprised to hear some cover versions (Everbody Plays The Fool – Aaron Neville and I Never Can Say Goodbye – Issac Hayes), but they are smooth and the channel is inyeresting and easy to listen to. JH
Caught Yacht Rock Radio for the first time, today. Channel 311, had to go looking. In 45 minutes’ time, listening….never heard a single female singer.
I like the mix mainly because it stretches about 25 years, more than double the approximate 10 years of traditional yacht rock. My only complaint so far is “Caravan of Love” being listed as by the Isley Bros.

I've noticed the factory radio in my truck won't pull up all of the Sirius channels. The highest number channel it will pull up is 219. It kind of ****** me off that I'm effectively paying for channels that I'm not getting. Also, in my opinion the only channel worth listening to on Sirius is Yacht Rock Radio which is channel 311. Our other cars (all are on the same Sirius plan/package) pull up this channel with the factory radio, don't understand why this truck will not. I've tried the "direct tune" option and it won't pull up the higher numbered channels either. Is anyone else experiencing the same? I guess my question is whether there is something wrong with the truck or is this just how the radio is programmed by Ford.

Click to expand...

blwn said: I'm guessing you have a 17 or 18? Those years just had Sirius, whereas 19+ received SiriusXM which allowed the upper channels as well as mixed presets etc.. You may be able to switch to a newer ACM and program it to work, but it will take some Forscan work. Maybe search the F150 forums and see if anyone else has made the swap Click to expand...

TIL there are 100 more SiriusXM channels that I’m not able to listen to :smh: If anyone figures out the mod to receive them, I’m all in.

I like the live performance channel, 3 something or other and my Rap radio doesn’t get it either, 2017. Click to expand...

Hi Daniel Schoon ’40s Pop Hits/Big Bands available on Channel Number 71
do yo plan to add to your lineup AMVO or Real America Voice dish network ch 219
Hi Chuck We will update you once we get the update.
I need a new line up, you have channel line up. you have changed some of the channels and eliminated some. Its the SIRIUS+XM channel line up. The one I have now is 8/17/2017.
Hi TERRY BAUMANN We updated it please check.
Good to become visiting your weblog once more, it continues to be months for me. Well this article that ive been waited for so long. I will need this article to total my assignment within the school, and it has exact same topic with your post. Thanks, wonderful share.
What happened to the 60’s What did you do with the best channel you have?
The channel formerly known as “60s on 6” on SiriusXM has been rebranded and moved to a new channel number. It is now called “60s Gold” and is located on channel 73. This change was part of a broader reshuffling of SiriusXM’s channel lineup, which took place on November 3, 2021. Despite the change in channel number and name, the content remains focused on music from the 1960s, featuring popular artists like The Beatles, The Beach Boys, and The Supremes. The move has caused some frustration among listeners who were accustomed to the original channel number, but the programming and DJs, such as Shotgun Tom Kelly, remain largely the same. If you previously enjoyed “60s on 6,” you can continue to listen to the same music and shows by tuning into channel 73, “60s Gold.”
You’re so cool! I do not think I’ve read anything like that before. So wonderful to discover someone with a few original thoughts on this subject. Really.. many thanks for starting this up. This site is something that’s needed on the internet, someone with some originality!
Thanks Alot
I can’t find the COffee House station, Do you still offer it?
The Coffee House station is still available on SiriusXM, but it has undergone some changes. It is now found on channel 6, having moved from its previous position on channel 14. The channel continues to offer a mix of acoustic and singer-songwriter music, but the programming has evolved over time, which might be why some listeners feel the content has changed. If you’re unable to find The Coffee House on your SiriusXM device, try refreshing your channel lineup or checking the SiriusXM app, as channel numbers can sometimes vary between devices. Additionally, if you’re streaming online or using the SiriusXM app, you can search for “The Coffee House” to access it directly.
When if ever will SiriusXM offer The “LOVE” channel on the car radio Line-up?
The “Love” channel on SiriusXM, known for playing romantic music, has undergone several changes over the years. As of the latest updates, the Love channel is no longer part of the standard in-car SiriusXM lineup. It was moved to an online-only channel, available on channel 708 through SiriusXM’s streaming service. This change means that the Love channel is not available on the traditional car radio lineup. Instead, it can be accessed via the SiriusXM app or online streaming platforms. The channel has been subject to preemptions and changes, often replaced by seasonal or special programming like Yacht Rock Radio or the Billy Joel channel. If you want to listen to the Love channel in your car, you would need to use the SiriusXM app on a smartphone or another device that supports streaming, and then connect it to your car’s audio system. This way, you can enjoy the Love channel while driving, even though it’s not part of the standard satellite radio lineup.
What channel is Holly going to be and what date does it start?
The “Holly” channel on SiriusXM, which features contemporary holiday music, will be available on channel 4. According to the information available, Holly is expected to start its holiday programming on November 8, coinciding with a broader lineup change and the announcement of a new SiriusXM app. This channel will provide a mix of modern holiday hits and traditional favorites throughout the holiday season.
i am lost ,where are the sirus radio channels listed?
I agree Gary. Where the heck are they.
Why does Sirius XM not have an Hawaiian music channel? I have to use Pandora. Ugh!!
SiriusXM does not currently offer a dedicated Hawaiian music channel. The absence of such a channel could be due to a variety of reasons, including demand, licensing agreements, or programming decisions. While SiriusXM provides a wide range of music channels covering many genres, Hawaiian music is not specifically represented in their current lineup. For listeners who enjoy Hawaiian music, alternative options include using streaming services like Pandora or Spotify, where you can find curated playlists and stations dedicated to Hawaiian music. Additionally, local radio stations in Hawaii or online streaming options might offer Hawaiian music programming.
WHy did you all cancel LA traffic??
how can I get Iheart radio and Newsmax on Sirius XM?
Currently, SiriusXM does not offer dedicated channels for iHeartRadio or Newsmax. Here are some alternatives for accessing these services: iHeartRadio iHeartRadio App: You can access iHeartRadio by downloading its app on your smartphone or tablet. It’s available on multiple platforms, including iOS and Android, and offers a wide range of radio stations, music playlists, and podcasts. Smart Devices: iHeartRadio is also available on smart devices like Amazon Echo, Google Home, and others, allowing you to stream content directly. Newsmax Newsmax TV: You can watch Newsmax TV through various streaming platforms and devices, such as Roku, Amazon Fire TV, and Apple TV. Newsmax also offers a live stream on its website and through its app. While SiriusXM provides a broad range of channels, including news and talk radio, it does not currently include iHeartRadio or Newsmax in its lineup. For these services, using their respective apps or supported streaming platforms is the best approach.
You need Newsmax….and OAN

You can find this channel by searching for “Ace in the Hole Radio” on the SiriusXM app or website. Elvis Presley * Elvis Radio: SiriusXM offers a dedicated Elvis Radio channel (channel 75) that plays Elvis Presley’s music 24/7. This channel broadcasts live from Graceland and features special programs and countdowns of Elvis’s top songs. How to Access These Channels 1. SiriusXM App: Use the SiriusXM app to search for artist-specific channels. You can enter the artist’s name in the search bar to find the relevant channel. 2. Car Radio: If you are using SiriusXM in your car, you can manually tune to the channel number or use the search function if available. 3. Online Streaming: Visit the SiriusXM website and use the search feature to find channels dedicated to specific artists. These channels provide a curated listening experience focused on the music and stories of these iconic artists.
WHERE IS CASEY KASAM CHANNEL (TOP 40)
On SiriusXM, Casey Kasem’s American Top 40 can be found on the “70s on 7” channel. This channel regularly airs classic episodes of the American Top 40 countdowns hosted by Casey Kasem from the 1970s. The schedule for these broadcasts can vary, so it’s a good idea to check the SiriusXM programming guide for specific air times
It’s an awesome post in favor of all the online people; they will take benefit from it I am sure.|
Thanks Alot for your kind words.
Any 5.1 stations?
SiriusXM no longer offers channels in 5.1 surround sound. In the past, XM Satellite Radio had a feature called XM HD Surround, which provided select channels in 5.1 surround sound, such as the Sirius XM Pops channel for classical music. However, this feature is no longer available, as indicated by user discussions and historical information about the service. Currently, SiriusXM focuses on providing a wide variety of channels in standard stereo sound, both via satellite and online streaming.
SiriusXM releases new channels and changes some others. Here are the details
S iriusXM just released a list of brand-new channels as well as announced numerous changes to their lineup, app and overall brand identity.
The 10 new channels will debut throughout the rest of 2023 and early 2024. They include a lineup of new shows, artists and genre-specific playlists.
New SiriusXM channels

Three channels will feature new shows and podcasts. These channels are, a new audiochuck channel curated by Ashley Flowers, Life with John Mayer premiering Nov 22 (ch 14), and This Life of Mine with James Corden which will premiere in 2023.

All three of these channels are year-round and can also be found on the SiriusXM app starting Wednesday.
Another new feature to keep an eye out for is guest DJ channel takeovers from some of the most popular artists on the charts. They will periodically take over different channels, bringing listeners setlists of their favorite songs curated directly by them.

The Sirius statement did not include a list of other channel changes. But some of them include Pop Rocks moving (again) to channel 6. Rock Bar, formerly channel 313, is also now moved to the app.
All of these additions come with the nationwide launch of the new SiriusXM app which will be available on Dec 14 and will include new and updated features such as enhanced searching, greater content discovery, a central audio library, and much more.
“The introduction of the new SiriusXM streaming experience marks a pivotal moment in our history, one that kicks off a new era of innovation at our company,” said CEO Jennifer Witz, “And this launch is just the beginning.”
