Tesla Unveils Self-Sustaining Electric Yacht

' src=

Tesla just unveiled the design for its self-sustaining, all-electric Model Y yacht, and it represents just about everything you’d expect from the extremely creative and game-changing company. After all, Tesla has already made head-turning inroads in the automotive market and in outer space, so it seems reasonable that it might venture into the marine sphere with something new as well. (See the video below.)

Elon Musk started making Tesla electric cars in 2008. This week, Tesla’s market cap is $663.85 billion, equal to that of the nine largest car companies in the world – combined. He founded SpaceX in 2002; it became the first private company to send humans into orbit last year, and it launched 143 satellites on a single mission in January – the most ever.

Tesla is not for the faint of heart. And the 131-foot Tesla yacht, called Model Y, seems to fit into the family pattern. It has a Tesla color scheme, for one thing. Then there’s the low, flowing design that sets it apart and is somewhat reminiscent of a spaceship sitting in the water.

For power, the Tesla yacht does not have to pull up to a fuel dock, or even plug into an electric circuit somewhere. The yacht is meant to be fully self-charging; it generates its own power, relying on a hydro-electric system. A turbine on the bottom of the hull charges the batteries that run the yacht. And solar panels on the top charge the batteries when the yacht is not moving.

The yacht has only two decks, with a creative aft cockpit – Tesla’s take on the current beach club trend – that can be opened wide for sunbathing, hopping into the Jacuzzi or enjoying water sports. When the weather turns, you just push a button and a massive shutter comes down to seal it off.

The lower deck is a large social area, with round tables in the center. Push a button and four chairs emerge from the table sides. Private rooms are forward on that deck; one can be a spa; others can be bedrooms. The helm also is on the lower deck.

The upper deck features a “glass room” with glass walls for 360-degree views. It has a sunken bar under foot, and tiny holes in the ceiling to look at the stars. See the video here:

Tesla has been doing great in the automotive industry, and their new move could be in a new direction - superyachts. Elon Musk, the CEO and founder of Tesla, has been offering the world a futurism pathway . Some of his  projects include the Hyperloop , the Boring Company, SpaceX, Neuralink, and of course, the newest car models being produced one after the other by Tesla.

Reports indicate that when Musk started thinking about making a superyacht, he planned to launch a new company with a new name solely for yachts. However, as of now, this new creation is going to be established by Tesla itself. The model's name might come across as confusing as there is already a car model with the term 'Y.' The speculation is that Y stands for a yacht.

The upcoming creation is indeed a marvel to behold. Tesla keeps continuing in the journey to a technological revolution once again. Musk has come up with something that might have seemed impractical as a concept. Tesla's self-charging model Y yacht is the first electric model of its kind, and it comes with a host of attractive features.

The self-charging Tesla Model Y is the brainchild of Indian designer Dhruv Prasad . Reports suggest that Prasad had designed this beauty back in 2017, and ever since then, the Tesla company has been attempting to execute it.

Tesla's exclusive model of a superyacht is designed to resemble a squid-like form. Its sleek design ensures a bulk-free and fast-moving vehicle. The hull of this ship is about 131 feet or 40 meters long. The shape is that of a giant squid because it is narrow at the tip and broad at the rear. There is no physical wheel made of hardwood as it is all remote-controlled.

The superstructure of this yacht is like most other vessels. It covers the top deck while creating interior space for the deck below. However, this yacht's striking feature is a small deck at the back for sunbathing or enjoying the sea. The small and private deck is directly connected to the lower deck. The private deck at the end is also a perfect launching ground for small boats and water transports.

Tesla's Model Y yacht comes with two decks, one on the top of the superstructure and one below. There is no provision to build more decks because the superstructure's surface, which forms the ceiling to the lower deck, has circular holes for daylight to lighten up this space. At night or in the absence of sunlight, LED lights will lighten up the lower deck space. The floors of the decks are made of hardwood.

RELATED:  Meet NORD Superyacht: The Tuxedo'd Warship

There might be only three decks on this yacht if one considers the small deck at the back to be a separate one. However, the space on this vessel is not less. The interiors of the lower deck are massive in size. This yacht is more suited for throwing parties than for an extended stay, and the interior spaces are large enough to organize nightlife activities. There are bars and lounges for the guests to be comfortable and amuse themselves.

The marvelous circular tables in the lower deck's central region appear to have no seats. A creation by Elon Musk's team is bound to a few tricks. With a remote control system, the tables can go in circular motions to open up into seats. The upper deck is also quite spacious and open. There are glass rooms with beds, and these private areas have spa and massaging rooms as well. The captain might get their private bedroom as speculations suggest.

Last but not least is the Model Y's self-charging mechanism, which makes it stand out amongst luxury superyachts. The concept is to make this ship function on hydroelectricity and solar power.

The plan uses the turbine bearing the Tesla icon to charge the engines with the hydroelectric power produced by the ocean currents. This will keep the yacht charged as long as it is on the ocean waters. However, there is also solar energy which should work as a backup. The solar panels have been installed on the superstructure to absorb energy from the sun easily.

When the yacht is not moving, and there is no hydroelectricity generation, the ship can function upon solar energy. However, if you plan to set out on a cloudy day, that should not be a problem because the primary source of electricity for this vessel is the hydropower produced by its turbine.

Musk and his team have not revealed the cost of this yacht yet. However, it can be expected that this beast will come at a fancy price. With features like these, it can't help but feel like it will be worth it.

Tesla Model Y Boat Towing Guide [Everything You Need To Know]

model y yacht

For many people, Tesla cars are the ultimate goal for their next vehicle since Teslas offer so many incredible features. One thing that might give people a bit of hesitation is when they think about how they would tow a boat or trailer. As with everything else, Tesla has thought about towing capabilities and made it possible.

The Tesla Model Y does not currently come standard with a towing package, but it can be installed. Here’s what it includes:

  • High-strength steel tow bar
  • 2” hitch receiver
  • North America 7-pin standard connector
  • Trailer harness
  • Tow mode software package

Although the Tesla Model Y tow package does cost an additional fee, it will certainly be well worth the price if you want to regularly take your boat to the lake for a bit of fun. Tesla enthusiasts who were initially disappointed to see that the Model Y does not have towing capabilities installed will be happy to learn about how to make towing possible.

How Can a Tesla Model Y Tow a Boat?

While the Tesla Model X, in contrast, does currently come equipped with a tow bar that is ready to tow up to 5,000 pounds, the Model Y does not.

A standard Model Y is not factory-ready to tow a boat, but it can tow one if a tow package is added to the car for an extra cost:

  • If you are ordering a Tesla, you can add on $1,000 for the package.
  • If you are installing a tow package on an existing Tesla Y, it will cost about $1,200.

A Tesla service center can install a tow package . The cost does not include ball mounts, which are dependent on the type of trailer you’re towing.

What Does the Tesla Model Y Tow Package Include?

You can order one of the Tesla Model Y tow packages online, which will then be shipped to the Tesla service center that you prefer. The $1,200 cost includes shipping and installation . The tow package includes:

  • A high-strength steel tow bar

With the Tesla Model Y tow package installed, you can tow up to 3,500 pounds . This means that you can easily trailer most small to medium-sized boats with your Tesla Model Y safely and successfully.

What is Trailer Mode?

If you are towing a trailer or boat with your Tesla Model Y, Trailer Mode must be active. Trailer Mode will automatically be enabled in your Tesla Model Y when you connect your boat or trailer’s electric connection to the vehicle. The vehicle must be in park for this step.

Trailer Mode will not automatically disconnect when you remove the trailer or boat’s electric connection. You can simply disable Trailer Mode from the touchscreen. While you can manually enable or turn off Trailer Mode this way, you must have Trailer Mode on whenever you are towing.

What Changes with Trailer Mode?

When you have Trailer Mode activated, some features are not available. For instance, Trailer Mode will alter the availability of some autopilot features, including:

  • Rear parking sensor

Towing a trailer or boat simply changes the way the vehicle needs to drive, so these features will not be available.

Trailer Mode also alters some of the other Tesla Model Y features, such as:

  • Increasing the following distance from the vehicle in front of you with the Traffic-Aware Cruise Control
  • Disabling automatic steering interventions (side collision warnings stay active)
  • Limited braking force from Automatic Emergency Braking, increasing stopping distance

Most of these features that are changed just are not compatible with towing a boat or trailer. The main functions of the vehicle will naturally remain.

What Should You Keep in Mind for Towing a Boat with the Tesla Model Y?

Towing with an electric vehicle like the Tesla Model Y is definitely different than towing with a typical regular gasoline vehicle. This means that there are other considerations that you should keep in mind before trying to tow a boat with your Tesla Model Y.

The Tesla Model Y’s Range Will Decrease

As one Tesla Model Y driver demonstrated , the range of a Model Y will definitely be decreased when you tow a boat. A typical vehicle with regular gasoline would certainly see a decrease in fuel efficiency if towing, but it is a lot easier to find a gas station to refuel such vehicles than it can be to find a Tesla charging station in some areas.

For this driver, who towed a 3,000-pound boat, 500 pounds under the maximum tow weight, the Tesla Model Y lost over half of the range it would normally get without towing a boat. This Model Y was at 45% efficiency while towing the boat.

Loss of range is not necessarily a dealbreaker for towing a boat with the Tesla Model Y; you can always expect to lose some efficiency when you add weight. The biggest issue with the loss of range when towing is that charging stations are not always available.

Certain rural areas or places that are not as popular for electric vehicles may not have many charging stations around. You should carefully plan your route before you tow a boat with your Tesla Model Y, accounting for an estimated 50% loss in range, if not a little more.

You Might Not Be Able to Charge Your Tesla Model Y When the Boat is Attached

Another thing to keep in mind if you decide to tow a boat with your Tesla Model Y is the possibility that you will not be able to charge your Model Y while you have your boat hooked up.

Most charging stations have chargers that require you to back up to the plug , which is not going to be feasible if you have a boat attached to your Model Y. For charging stations that you back your Tesla Model Y into, you will have to disconnect the boat beforehand ; you will also have to reconnect the boat once the Model Y is charged.

There are some charging stations that allow you to pull your Tesla Model Y through instead of needing to back up. If you have access to one of these charging stations, then there is no need to worry about disconnecting the boat each time you need a charge. Just keep it in mind in case you will only have access to the more standard charging stations.

Consult the Owner’s Manual for Launch Procedures

In general, launching a boat with your Tesla Model Y is not that different from launching a boat with a standard regular gasoline vehicle. The biggest thing to keep in mind is that you want to avoid the vehicle entering the water as much as possible .

Saltwater can cause serious corrosion damage to the Tesla Model Y’s components. Regardless of the type of water at a launch, submerging the batteries of the Tesla Model Y can also cause serious damage.

You will need to consult your owner’s manual for the proper procedure for parking on a slope. This is a key part of launching or retrieving a boot, and safety is crucial.

Final Thoughts

Overall, towing a boat with a Tesla Model Y is perfectly feasible and not much more complicated than towing with a regular gasoline vehicle. Once the tow package is installed, the Trailer Mode makes sure that everything functions well and you can be on your way.

Dhruv Prasad’s Tesla Model Y superyacht concept looks like the real deal

Teased back in 2017, the $700 million Tesla Model Y superyacht concept designed by Dhruv Prasad broke the internet. Now five years later, we’re crossing our fingers that this dream may become a reality.

Although Tesla CEO Elon Musk reportedly was not part of this project, Prasad’s renders look stunning with many hoping that the EV giant can make the Tesla Model Y superyacht concept come to fruition. The yacht will be completely electric, allowing it to cruise silently. Additionally, hydroelectric and solar power will be utilized.

The superyacht’s electric powertrain and self-sustaining qualities are what really make it unique amongst its competitors. There’ll be a solar panel that charges two lithium batteries at the top of the yacht. A crimson object bearing the Tesla symbol can be seen in the middle. This is the turbine that functions by converting the energy of ocean waves into electricity, which charges a battery system.

Model Y superyacht concept

Measured at 40 meters (131 feet), the Model Y superyacht is designed with a sharp hull and a massive interior that comes with two decks, two bedrooms, and a spa built in. With an easy touch of a button, the modular tables found on the lower deck can be transformed into seats. A circular bar and a dance floor will be on the upper deck, which will be covered by a huge roof that glows at night using hundreds of LED lights.

The Bangalore designer has shown both elegance and comfort in his futuristic renderings of the Tesla Model Y superyacht concept . We hope the idea can surface into the hands of Elon Musk . Please, make this happen!

Tesla Yacht - The Self-Sustaining Electric Yacht

Tesla recently unveiled its design for the $700 million self-sustaining electric Model Y yacht. The vision represents everything you would expect from the creative and game-changing team at Tesla. The company has already made great strides in the automotive industry by revolutionizing electric cars and has now decided to venture into the yacht space.

The features of the Tesla Model Y superyacht

What makes the Model Y Tesla yacht worth over $700 million is the wide range of features and performance-based innovations the design promises. The Tesla yacht concept seems to carry the DNA of a true Tesla. The recently shared digital render showcases a 131-foot (40 meters) long yacht with Tesla’s color scheme and a low-flowing body, somewhat reminiscent of that of a spaceship.

When it comes to powering up this superyacht, the Tesla does not need to dock for fuel or even plug into an electric power output. The Tesla yacht is designed to be self-sustaining. Its lithium batteries are recharged in two ways: One through a turbine generating hydroelectric power placed below its hull, and second through solar panels placed on the roof of the yacht.

A large roof covers the boat’s deck from stern to mid-section and features hundreds of skylight openings that convert to LED lights in the dark, replicating starlights in the night sky. The stern of the Tesla yacht contains a small lounge area with deck chairs and a Jacuzzi. A foldable door with the Tesla logo can be extended and retracted as and when needed to cover the Jacuzzi. The starboard side of the Model Y Tesla yacht features a spa room, with the port side containing a seating area with panoramic views.

Electric vehicles the future of transportation

With the potential to reduce emission levels, the use of electric vehicles has become increasingly popular. What was once a skeptical outlook has now become mainstream usage. Tesla, with its range of electric cars, brought electric transportation into the mainstream car market.

Governments across the world are implementing tighter emission norms and encouraging manufacturers to move towards an electric future. Apart from Tesla, companies like Rivian, Lucid motors, Volta charging, and many others produced electric vehicles exclusively. Big brands like Mercedes Benz, Toyota, and Audi, among others, have also introduced an electric car segment in their lineup.

In the near future, you will be able to get an electric yacht from us. Our yacht rental in Dubai is always working to bring in the latest yachts in the market.

Release date of the Model Y Tesla yacht

Tesla yacht lights and design

The design of the Model Y yacht is still in its conceptual stage. Hence no official dates have been announced regarding the Tesla yacht release. But with the company’s vision of creating sustainable and future-oriented mobility, seeing a Tesla yacht in the sea is not too far from reality. This means that luxury enthusiasts might have the option book a yacht in Dubai , Monaco, or Sardinia from the Tesla series in the near future.

You can also read about the Alfa Nero yacht known for its luxury appearance like Tesla.

Elon Musk – the visionary behind Tesla

Elon Musk, the founder and visionary behind Tesla , believes in sustainability as the way forward. Companies like Tesla, SpaceX, and SolarCity were founded on the principles of affordability, reusability, and sustainability. Having dominated the electric car and the space rocket-building industry, it was only a matter of time before he ventured into the marine business. However, Elon Musk is said to have no direct involvement in the Tesla yacht project. The luxury Tesla yacht is actually a concept by Dhruv Prasad, an Indian designer whose vision is to bring the boat from a concept to the sea.

Electric powertrains and the transformation of marine technology

With growing concerns about global warming and climate change, companies across the spectrum have adopted eco-friendly and sustainable methods to operate their businesses. The yacht industry is also witnessing innovation in the electric segment.

Tesla is one of the first companies to produce and sell all-electric vehicles. Their success has encouraged other leading automotive brands to add electric and hybrid vehicles into their product lines. The applications of electric powertrains are being implemented across various industries, like aircraft and marine.

Pontoon boat

General Motors acquired a 25% stake in 2021 in Pure Watercraft, a Seattle-based electric outboard motor manufacturing company, to step into the electric boat-producing business. In January 2022, the company unveiled its first product, the electric pontoon boat. It is available in single and twin outboard motor versions. The single motor model is expected to reach a top speed of 22 km/h and 37 km/h for the twin motor version.

Arc Boats & Alav Yachts

Arc Boats, another Los Angeles-based company co-founded and led by the creative team of former SpaceX engineers, is revolutionizing the electric boat segment. In March 2022, the company announced a fully-electric cruiser known as the Arc One. Alva Yachts, a Turkey-based company, has also recently showcased six different types of electric yacht concepts with their specifications and amenities.

C-8 electric boat

Swedish Tech company Candela recently announced its flying electric craft, known as the C-8. The boat uses hydrofoil wings to keep most of the boat above water, reducing drag and uses 80% less energy compared to conventional boats.
