The Yacht Club: An Expansive Seafood Restaurant in Edgewater

Guests will know that they’ve arrived at Edgewater’s newest seafood   restaurant when they see the lighthouse-shaped facade. The Background

The Yacht club opened its doors on August 26th, 2020. The Executive Chef, Gregory Zapantis, has received many accolades, and is known for his elevated take on Greek cuisine, and is also the Chef at Molos in Weehawken {a local fav}. Gregory Zapantis was also the first culinary ambassador to Greece in North America.

Guests can find popular American seafood dishes like Maine and Connecticut Lobster Rolls, Maryland Crab Cakes, and Popcorn Shrimp. The outside bar overlooks the Hudson River serves up an array of frozen cocktails and specialty drinks. Wine by the glass and bottle is available as well as beer, cider, mocktails, and smoothies.

From the raw bar, patrons can order a half dozen oysters {blue point, Beausoleil, Wellfleet, raspberry point, malpeque, Fannie bay, clams served with cocktail sauce & horseradish, a shrimp cocktail, or a seafood tower {10 oysters, 3 clams, 4 mussels, 4 crawfish, 3 shrimp, add ½ or 1 lobster}.

For appetizers, patrons can start with a classic Cesar, frisée calamari {frisée, cremini & shiitake mushrooms}, lobster bisque soup, New England clam chowder, popcorn shrimp, or crab cake.

For something light that still packs a punch, opt for the tacos, either the shrimp taco, snapper taco, or shredded chicken taco.

For something more filling, the restaurant offers a crab cake burger, fried filet of sole sandwich, lobster claw BLT, and a beef burger. The tender “Famous Lobster Roll” is a must-try on the menu {beer-battered cod with fries and coleslaw}. Pasta lovers, fret not, linguine with clams is available and the clams are cooked just right.

What would a seafood restaurant be without delicious seafood dishes? Grilled branzino, grilled salmon, sea bream, sea scallops, and fried shrimp are just some of the options. For meat lovers, a skirt steak is on hand.

Any of the sides would pair well with one of the entrees, including the creamy lobster mac and cheese, corn on the cob, sea salt fries, sweet potato fries, and homemade coleslaw.

For the last course, what is savory without a little sweet? Chocolate cake, New York strawberry cheesecake {of course}, creme brulee, assorted ice creams, and sorbets are all options to end your meal on a gratifying note.

The Experience

If you’re looking for a venue to celebrate your next socially-distanced party, look no further. Arcon Design was tapped to transform the spacious 13,000 square foot restaurant. When you dine at The Yacht Club, it feels like you’re on vacation, or at least not in Hudson County. The entrance of the restaurant boasts an expansive marble bar with seating for 20, side by side with a chic lounge area for up to 30 people with the backdrop of the Hudson.

The floor to ceiling windows in the main dining room bring in ample natural light and it overlooks a large deck. The olive green walls and gold accents create the perfect layout for any celebration. Some of the furniture was even imported from Greece.

The outdoor dining area is available rain or shine for up to 60 guests. The main dining room inside the restaurant seats 120 guests, and the venue boasts a private dining room upstairs for up to 150 guests in addition to lounge and bar seating in the front of the restaurant for 50.

The Yacht Club Offers Waterfront Dining in Edgewater

A new seafood restaurant and bar is open in Edgewater, offering casual dining in a relaxing atmosphere. It’s hard to miss The Yacht Club along the Edgewater Commons Shopping Center pier, with its white lighthouse-shaped façade. In terms of location, locals will recall the space previously housing Joe’s Crab Shack.

However, the 13,000-square foot interior is now totally different. It seats 120 in the main dining room; which boasts olive green walls, Greece-imported gold accented furniture, and floor-to-ceiling windows. In addition, the dining room overlooks a deck with water views from all sides. Meanwhile, the private upstairs dining room at The Yacht Club seats 150. Finally, their marble bar can seat another 20, while their lounge with a view seats yet another 30.

But we haven’t even gotten to the outdoor deck yet; this section seats 60 – rain or shine — and offers views of both the Hudson River and Manhattan. “The outdoor setting was designed to resemble a waterfront bar in Europe, from the island-chic light fixtures to the sliding floor to ceiling doors which easily open and close weather permitting,” says The Yacht Club Owner Eliana Stefanitsis; her family also runs the Hudson River Group, which owns Molos in Weehawken .

Like many other businesses, COVID-19 caused a delay in operation. Eliana’s original plan was to open The Yacht Club in April, but wound up waiting until August instead. “We aren’t taking reservations because we want to encourage people to come eat, enjoy the space, and not have to plan in advance,” she says. Likewise, their plan is to accommodate both “people who want to hang out at the bar and enjoy a craft cocktail or families who want to go out to eat.”

Seafood by the Sea

The Yacht Club serves American seafood dishes, courtesy of Executive Chef Gregory Zapantis. (Fans of the Hudson River Group will recognize that name from Molos.) To further diversify the menu, the restaurant also employs Sushi Chef Steve Song (previously from Masa in New York City).

As for their signature dishes, The Yacht Club specializes in lobster. With this in mind, it’s no surprise that lobster rolls and the lobster BLT sandwich are big hits. Of course, you can also find salads, tacos, and burgers on the menu. Meanwhile, the full bar menu includes frozen drinks. Their signature cocktail is the Grapefruit Botanical Spritz, with Ketel One grapefruit juice, Aperol liqueur, and club soda.

They also offer gluten-free items such as wild salmon and skirt steak. Eliana points out that vegetarian items are limited for the moment, but they plan to expand on this soon. For now, they can accommodate vegetarian meals by request.

Concept: You don't have to be a member to be a regular at The Yacht Club, which will open in Edgewater on the Pier of the Edgewater Commons Shopping Center. Executive Chef: Executive Chef Gregory Zapantis' name can be found in the heart of every upscale establishment that elevated Greek cuisine into gastronomical art, including Molos in Weehawken, where he also helms the kitchen. A long line of distinctions and awards attests to his many accomplishments, but the distinction held closest to his heart took place in 2011, with his induction by the Hellenic Chef's Club, the only club founded on Greek soil, with the single purpose to support Hellenic cuisine around the globe. Gregory Zapantis was also the first culinary ambassador to Greece in North America, a true honor coming from the leading chefs of his home country, and brings the delicacies of the sea to The Yacht Club.

Sushi Chef: Sushi Chef Steve Song began his career apprenticing under Chef Masa Takayama at Masa in NYC. He then went on to work in the kitchens at ABC Kitchen, DOMODOMO and BARO by Chefs Society. Most recently the ICE graduate was Sushi Chef at Sheli's in the Square in Monsey, NJ before coming on board as head Sushi Chef at The Yacht Club.

Design: Arcon Design was tapped to reimagine this spacious 13,000 square foot restaurant overlooking the Hudson River. Guests will be greeted by an expansive marble bar with seating for 20, complemented by a sexy and relaxed lounge area for 30 overlooking the water. So much better then the restaurants before. Our server Chris was excellent with recommendations and constantly checking on us. The mussels were delicious as was the fish and chips. Couldn't have asked for a more peaceful meal between my dad and I.

Friendly and helpful staff combined with a very decent culinary experience speaks volumes to the less than savoury comments found elsewhere. The views of Manhattan are exceptional and the numerous fishermen ringing the pier are always a quaint reminder of a better time. The Yacht Club is much recommended and rightly so.

Holiday rush got you frazzled? With all the craziness going on this year, nothing could be more welcoming than a calm culinary escape out of town! The Yacht Club, which recently took over Joe’s Crab Shack space (541 River Road in Edgewater, NJ), will make you feel like you have entered a more relaxing world. You will be amazed at the seafood (especially the Lobster Roll which rivals any served in New England), and classic American landlubber fare like the tender Marinated Skirt Steak. You will love the open-air feeling thanks to The Yacht Club’s extra-large windows overlooking the Hudson and the NYC skyline.

The Yacht Club’s fare is priced reasonably, most notably the 1-1/4 lb. Lobster, which at $35 includes two sides; portions are large enough to share. There’s also the 3 lb. lobster for those seafood lovers who want the wow factor. Other stellar seafood dishes include Whole Grilled Branzino with Fresh Herbs, Flash Fried Whiting, Fried Shrimp, Grilled Faroe Islands Salmon with Quinoa Salad, Linguine with Clam Sauce, Flash Fried Sea Scallops, and a Fisherman’s Platter that includes Flash Fried Shrimp, Scallops, Filet of Sole and Calamari. The Famous Lobster Roll is arguably the most popular item on The Yacht Club’s menu.

COCKTAILS & BITES Still, others come for the remarkable specialty cocktails and to share the generous appetizers like Popcorn Shrimp, Maryland Crab Cakes, Florida Stone Crab Claws, Fried Calamari, and Mussels. Diners also love to share items from the Taco & Burgers section of the menu. Needless to say, Shrimp Tacos (with Herb Aioli) and Snapper Tacos (with Radishes, Shredded Purple Cabbage, and Chipotle) are huge hits.

The waterfront resto’s sides are the ultimate comfort foods and include Corn On The Cob, Sea Salt Fries, Lobster Mac And Cheese, Homemade Coleslaw, and Sweet Potato Fries. Desserts like Key Lime Pie, Chocolate Lava Cake, New York Strawberry Cheesecake please every sweet tooth.

We caught up with Executive Chef Gregory Zapantis to ask about his eatery’s clientele. “It’s locals and visitors from the city who come to the waterfront to enjoy great food and the Manhattan skyline,” he told us.

FRESH IS BEST What does the highly independent and creative Zapantis—who also helms the kitchen at the nearby Mediterranean seafood eatery Molos in Weehawken—do to stay current on new trends? “I follow my own rules. Our fresh seafood is sourced as locally as possible. As an example, we travel twice a week to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, to get the best tomatoes money can buy—and I always follow my customers’ advice.”

As mentioned before, the skirt steak (which comes with a heaping portion of golden fries) is amazing. We just had to get the chef’s secrets on how he makes a skirt steak more tender than a filet mignon. “We buy Omaha grass-fed beef, and there is a process. One is a 24-hour marinade and one 48, but the ingredients are a secret,” he told us. “The potatoes are high quality, and they’re extremely fresh. One secret I can reveal is that we fry our potatoes in super fresh canola oil that gets changed daily.

Even if you are one of those New Yorkers who rarely leaves the city, you’ll find yourself returning to The Yacht Club time and time again. Besides having reliable food in large portions and a Manhattan view that is second to none (especially at night), service is impeccable and speedy. You’ll find that the homey olive green and white walls, pendant lighting, wood paneling, sailboat artwork, and overall airy dining room will help you relax.

Be sure to check out their $39 Sunday Lobster Feast—you get a 1¼ lb. lobster, Corn on the Cob, Potatoes, and your choice of Key Lime Pie or Crème Brulee for dessert.

New England Vibes at The Yacht Club in Edgewater NJ

With summer coming to a close (say it isn’t so!), there’s still time to soak up some sun and enjoy one of the season’s best eats—lobster rolls!—with a visit to The Yacht Club , a newly opened restaurant and oyster bar situated right on the pier of the Edgewater Commons Shopping Center.

Showcasing a lighthouse-shaped facade and wondrous wraparound views of the Hudson River and the New York City skyline, this is one club where everyone is welcome. Executive Chef Gregory Zapantis, who also helms the kitchen at the Club’s sister restaurant, Molos, has put together a menu that’s heavy on seafood favorites, surf and turf specialties, super-fresh sushi and sashimi (compliments of Sushi Chef Steve Song, a veteran of NYC’s Michelin-starred Masa), and those aforementioned oysters.  

Dive into an ocean of Maine- and Connecticut-style lobster rolls, Maryland crab cakes, a lobster claw BLT, popcorn shrimp, rolled sushi, fresh oysters, and more, all at beyond reasonable prices. While there’s no lifeguard on duty, there is a terrific team of restaurant professionals at the ready to make your dining excursion memorable. 

Permission to come aboard is, for now, limited to 60 outdoor seats (all perfectly socially distanced), but there’s nearly 13,000 square feet of ship-shape space—including a 120-seat indoor dining room with floor-to-ceiling windows and an upstairs private dining area that can host up to 150—just waiting to be unveiled.

We had lunch here today (Tuesday) at 12:30pm. I believe we were the only customers in the building when we arrived. We started ... with the Frozen Strawberry Margarita and a Moscow Mule. The drinks were very tasty, except the 2nd round of drinks. As picturedin the review, they served the 2nd Moscow Mule in a rusty / tarnished cup. It smelled of rusty copper and had a metallic taste.For an appetizer we had the Guacamole with chips. It was definitely lacking seasoning and flavor. For entrees we ordered theMaine Lobster Roll, Snapper Tacos, Coleslaw and Sea Salt Fries. They were out of the brioche bun, so they put the Lobster Rollon a burger bun. The Lobster Roll was also lacking flavor and the Snapper Tacos were just sitting in grease. Today was our 4thtime trying “The Yacht Club” and the 4th time we left disappointed. The restaurant is beautiful and has potential, but seemsthey need a new chef and management team. Great location with good amount of parking. My wife and I had a good time. Food was well made. Found a bit odd that the server ... complained that it is “required” to tip at least 10% of the bill as a restaurant rule. This was despite my wife getting thewrong order. So disappointed. Worst night out ever! My first Father’s Day dinner was ruin!! Upon arrival my family and I were greeted with, ... “we are currently out of French fries, lobster, Cesar salad and steak”. We decided to stay because we saw other things onthe menu we could order. Boy were we wrong. After placing a order for crab cakes, they came back and said they ran out. We thenordered mussels and calamari, which the waitress came back and told us they ran out of those too. We decided to order a burgersince the seafood restaurant we went to apparently ran out of seafood. After ordering the burger our waitress came back and said“ I’m so sorry to have to tell you this, but we are currently out of burger buns” she then went on to say “it’s beenlike this the whole day”. By the the way, the burger was is a frozen burger they pop on the grill. The sweet potato friesthey served with the burgers. I got the old batch and my girl had fresh sweet potato fries. Who is managing this restaurant? Notonce did a manager come over to any of the tables and said anything to anyone. After awhile i started to notice the frustrationin other customers faces. The Yacht Club

Try good flank steaks , lobster rolls and fish platters . Taste tasty chocolate lava cakes , chocolate cakes and brioches at this bar when you happen to be near it. According to the reviewers' opinions, waiters offer delicious wine , Daiquiris or red sangria . It's a must to order great espresso or good lemonade when visiting The Yacht Club .

Select between indoor and outdoor seating. The friendly staff works hard, stays positive and makes this place great. Democratic prices are something that should be noted about this place. Based on the visitors' opinions, the decor is terrific. If you come to this spot, certainly, you are to love the surrounding spectacular atmosphere. But this bar has been rated below average by Google.
