It is rather well-known for its concentration of singular, golden-white beaches, transparent water, intense perfumes of the myrtle plant, of juniper and Scotch broom, and for its accommodation of every type of tourist.
Its history is linked to a legend that people from Cagliari like to recall. Its name seems to derive from an attempt by some devils to take possession of this part of the coast because of its special beauty. The legend says that God decided to stop the devils’ attack using the army of his faithful angels, whose head was Gabriel archangel .
The beach of Mari Pintau has very fine, white sand, pebbles, and pebble stones. Its waters are of a changing blue due to the plays of light created by the sun reflecting on the pebble stone seabed and this is exactly how it gets its name “painted sea”. White sands extend to the rear.
