Fun boat ride! Relaxing to float down the water way and check out Disneyland. This is located at the Magic Kingdom. The boat is a nice break to get off your feet and take a break. It's about 10 minutes- so not very long. But a nice break when your feet hurt from walking. The commentary on the boat is funny and entertaining too lol Good for all ages: elderly and very young. This one is an easy ride. Nothing too crazy here. This is not a ride for thrill seekers looking for a rush of adrenaline lol This is a Mary Bo Peep kind of ride LOL at least that is what I call it anyway.... :)
This is a great ride that is free, relaxed, and rarely crowded. The location of this ride is in the Frontierland portion of the Magic Kingdom Park. It is one of the original rides of the park and opened the day after the park opened. It is a large 3-story steam-driven riverboat that loads and unloads from the entrance across from the Hall of Presidents and next to the Haunted Mansion. Passengers can choose to stand along the rail pretty much anywhere on the 3 decks. You enter on the middle deck. There is a parlor in the center of that deck with cushions that may not want to stand for the entire ride. We chose the middle level and enjoyed seeing one of the parades that came through Frontierland while we were there. Once the ride departs with the full steam whistle blows that precede departure, there is a running dialogue that is quite entertaining and talks about the various sites that you will see on your river adventure. The boat follows the river around Tom Sawyer's Island (another great place to visit). It is an enjoyable 20-minute ride that allows a good view of the park in a not-crowded moving platform. I recommend this for all people wanting a break from the hustle and bustle of the park when it gets busy. Enjoy.

Another ride I've not done in ages, but when the park is crowded or you just need to unwind a bit, get in and sit down. Enjoy the no-pressure ride around the island and the boat operator's tale and you'll get off rejuvinated.
View from the prow
This is an excellent attraction if you're looking for a break and still want to entertain the kiddies. What kid doesn't love to ride a huge boat? There's not much to it. It's a riverboat and takes you around in a circle. But it is nice to sit for a while and take in some beautiful scenery.
This is an often overlooked attraction in Liberty Square at Magic Kingdom. It is a nice relaxing ride around Tom Sawyer island on this huge riverboat that floats on the Rivers of America. It allows you to get some different views of Adventureland than if you were traveling by foot. There are also some corny & funny little scenes set up for you along your journey. A narrator describes everything you are passing so you have some background. If the weather is great, the ride is amazing! It's about 15 minutes long so be prepared if the weather is chilly.

The Liberty Square Riverboat leaves on the hour and half hour and the ride lasts about 15 minutes. The Liberty Belle is an authentic replica of an old paddle wheel riverboat. It travels down the Rivers of America and circles Tom Sawyer Island several times a day. This scenic tour offers a view of props along the riverbank to simulate a wild west effect. While not a thrilling adventure, this attraction offers a short respite from the busy crowds. The boat holds approximately 450 guests and has 3 decks from which to view the passing scenery. The riverboat is guided through the Rivers of America on a track, which is hidden under the green and brown dyed river water. They really need to rename this and add a Steamboat Willy theme to to.
Every Disney fan knows that the Liberty Square Riverboat is nothing more than a "fill in the blanks" attraction, meaning that you only ride it when the park is overly crowded because it's a ride you can actually get on! The riverboat does have its own charms so don't automatically dismiss it on a quiet day at the park. If you are a fan of boats, I'd say don't miss it. Everyone else: skip it. This attraction can be enjoyed by the whole family, from toddlers to grandparents. There aren't many seats on the boat so be warned; you need to be able to stand for around 20 minutes. Head up to the top deck for the best views (but bring the sunscreen because the top deck is NOT shaded from the sun). I like to stand by the back so I can watch the riverboat glide through the water. The front of the boat is very popular with kids. The ride is slow and scenic, and there's a slightly cheesy recorded narration by "Mark Twain." I guess it's supposed to get us all nostalgic about old-timey transportation but instead it comes off as a senile old grandpa spinning yarns about traveling "back in his day." The boat meanders around the Magic Kingdom and is a great way to get unique photos of the park (with especially great views of Big Thunder, Splash Mountain and the Haunted Mansion). There are some lame fake "sights" that you sail by, including an early American settlement, a Native American village, a mill, a fort, and a bunch of silly fake woodland animals. Be on the lookout for several of the park's resident baby alligators! They like to swim near the edge of the boat. So cute (and yes, they are real, not animatronics).
It's a bit dated as are the displays and such along the river, but it's a relaxing ride and break in the middle of busy Disney day.
Time to exit.
Are you kidding me? Anything less than 5 stars is just proof that some folks can never be happy! It's the "Magic Kingdom",.... buck up and get in there. Enjoy!
This thing is like putting an ocean liner in a bathtub. Seriously, this thing is nothing more than a pond! I was amazed how tight they turn this big ship around those sharp corners with only inches to spare. If Disney is going to do something, they do it big. And this is pretty big. It's also cool to check out the boilers and motors in the engine room. I like relaxing rides like this.

Riding when crowds are lower, especially during mealtimes and the Electrical Water Pageant, can also mean shorter wait times. Avoid exiting immediately after a performance of The Hall of Presidents, when crowds flood the area.
The Liberty Square Riverboat has a long history, dating back to Walt Disney’s original vision for Disneyland . Walt incorporated a riverboat attraction into his plans for Disneyland, using the iconic Mark Twain Riverboat on the Rivers of America as inspiration. When designing Magic Kingdom, Imagineers brought a similar riverboat to life on the park’s Rivers of America. The original Liberty Square riverboat was named the Admiral Joe Fowler. It operated for over 7 years before being damaged beyond repair.
The Admiral Joe Fowler was replaced in 1973 by the boat currently in operation – the Richard F. Irvine. After an extensive refurbishment in 1996, the Richard F. Irvine was renamed the Liberty Belle. The Liberty Belle is an exact replica of a 19th century paddle wheel riverboat. It stands 47 feet tall and weighs 100 tons. The boat has a maximum capacity of 450 guests over three levels. The Liberty Belle is powered by a working steam engine that rotates the rear paddle wheel to propel the boat during its journey. While the steam engine is fully functioning, the boat does follow an underwater track for guidance and safety.
The Liberty Square Riverboat ride experience begins at the loading dock in Liberty Square. Guests board the boat from the middle, second deck, while ramp access for wheelchairs and ECVs is offered on the first deck. As the boat departs, guests are welcomed aboard by a pre-recorded spiel from Captain Horace Bixby. He introduces the pilot guiding this journey – none other than Samuel Clemens, better known by his pen name Mark Twain.
Twain shares memories of his many adventures traveling along the Mississippi River as the Liberty Belle passes by Frontierland and approaches Tom Sawyer Island. Along the way, riders can spot wildlife, mining structures, and old settlements along the shores. The narration highlights various sights along the river, including abandoned mines at Cutthroat Canyon and Fort Langhorn on Tom Sawyer Island.
As the boat completes its loop around the island, the majestic facade of The Haunted Mansion comes into view. Twain remarks on legends of the Haunted Mansion being built on sacred native burial grounds as the Liberty Belle returns to dock in Liberty Square, concluding the 12-minute journey. Guests exit the boat on the first deck and can browse photos taken during the ride that are available for purchase.
In addition to its regular operation, the Liberty Square Riverboat offers special cruises for certain hard ticket events and holidays throughout the year. During Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, the Liberty Belle is decorated with Halloween theming. The boat hosts Happy HalloWishes Dessert Parties that coincide with the special Halloween fireworks show. Guests are served desserts while enjoying premium views of the fireworks bursting over Cinderella Castle. For the holidays, the Liberty Belle gets a festive Christmas overlay and operates during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. It offers Holiday Wishes Dessert Parties to pair with the Christmas fireworks spectacular.
The Liberty Square Riverboat also occasionally has evening cruises during Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular fireworks with unique viewing opportunities for Star Wars fans. Outside the special events, guests might catch the Liberty Belle testing its steam whistle after refurbishments and at other random times. When the steam whistle blows, it makes for an unforgettable part of the Liberty Square atmosphere. So beyond its regular operation, the Liberty Belle delivers even more magic through special holiday cruises and one-of-a-kind experiences like the steam whistle that delight guests.
The Liberty Square Riverboat ride bears many similarities to riverboat attractions across Disney theme parks worldwide. Each boat offers a scenic tour of an artificial river with references to Mark Twain and American history. However , there are some variations in narration, sights along the river, and overall ride experience between the different versions. Here’s how Walt Disney World’s Liberty Belle compares to riverboats at other Disney Parks:
Disneyland – The Mark Twain Riverboat is a nearly identical ride experience to the Liberty Belle, complete with Twain narration and a relaxing voyage around Tom Sawyer Island and Frontierland. One key difference is Disneyland’s Columbia Sailing Ship that also navigates the river.
Tokyo Disneyland – The Western River Railroad at Tokyo Disneyland features similar sights along the Rivers of America but follows a different path around the entire Critter Country area.
Hong Kong Disneyland – Mystic Manor is visible from Hong Kong Disneyland’s Jungle River Cruise, offering a view of one of the park’s most popular attractions during the ride.
Shanghai Disneyland – The Voyage to the Crystal Grotto winds through rocky caves with dazzling effects as part of its tour around Fantasyland, a very different sight from Liberty Square and Frontierland.
Disneyland Paris – No riverboat ride exists at Disneyland Paris. Guests can walk through a full-scale replica of a frontier steamboat outside the Disneyland Railroad station.
The Liberty Square Riverboat continues to be a beloved classic, inviting guests of all ages to embark on a peaceful cruise back in time. For over 50 years, across Disney theme parks worldwide, these iconic boats offer an opportunity to recharge and appreciate the magic of Disney from a new perspective. A ride aboard the Liberty Belle showcases Disney’s knack for blending nostalgia, nature, and storytelling into an attraction experience that stands the test of time. So be sure to hop aboard for a relaxing voyage across the Rivers of America on your next visit to the Magic Kingdom!

Casual boat ride. Great way to fill some time. Rode again for the first time in many years, and it was just as I remembered. Wave at people as you go by. They generally wave back. Mostly.

It’s a big boat with all the romance of river voyages of the 19th century. I have to ride this every time it is available. Honestly a must do for any seeking a great time. It’s also the fastest way to get around the island and back to where you departed.
Need to rest your feet? Have a boat loving kid? This experience (I wouldn't really call it a ride) is for you! A gentle journey around the Rivers of America. We sat on a box on the front of the boat and rested our feet for the 20 minute ride. Is it thrilling? Nope. Is it modernly educational? Nope. It may not be the ride you want, but sometimes, it's the ride you need.

It is a reproduction of the historic vessels that ferried people up and down the Mississippi River.
While it is fully functioning, it is actually guided on an “I-beam” track that is hidden by the green and brown-dyed water of the Rivers of America.

The Liberty Square Riverboat begins with its captain, Horace Bixby, welcoming guests aboard The Liberty Belle as well as introducing his pilot, Samuel Clemens (known to future generations as the author, Mark Twain). You are currently on Clemens’ 100th journey aboard the Liberty Belle.
Before the Liberty Belle leaves port, Sam sets the scene for the ride ahead by warning guests to stay behind the railings, as river pirates are known to frequent the area.
As you sail down the river, you’ll see the sights of Frontierland, which for the purpose of the ride was once just a boom town but is well on its way to becoming a big city. Over the announcement system, Sam mentions that the large peak in Frontierland is known as Chick-A-Pin Hill (also known to Disney guests as the former Splash Mountain and future Tiana’s Bayou Adventure ).
Continuing on, the boat passes Sam’s “old stomping ground”, Tom Sawyer Island .
Next, he points out Big Thunder Mountain where the water gets so hot that geysers erupt. Sam explains that Native Americans used to think that the geysers were spirits and that’s why they named the mountain “Big Thunder Mountain” and the moniker stuck.
As your boat ride continues, you’ll see Beacon Joe and his dog Rufus in front of his bait shop.
You’ll then see Powhatan Native Americans gathering and pass by an unidentified Indian village. Down the river, the Liberty Belle reaches Cutthroat Corner where riders are told they are most likely to find river pirates.
Before returning to port in Liberty Square, the Liberty Belle passes The Haunted Mansion . Sam informs guests that rumor has it that the mansion was built on a Native American burial ground, and now 999 ghosts haunt it.
Finally, the Liberty Belle reaches port and Sam and Captain Bixby say goodbye as the boat docks and guests are directed to disembark.
One thing to note about taking a ride on The Liberty Square Riverboat: on top of the sights you see on the attraction, you will also get a unique view of Magic Kingdom. You might even be able to spot the parade or a cavalcade during your ride!
This is a great ride for the whole family to take a break from the crowds of Magic Kingdom.
Strollers are not allowed in most queues at Walt Disney World. Instead, you’ll need to leave your stroller in the designated stroller parking area near the entrance to the queue.
The Liberty Square Riverboat is one of the few attractions that can trace its history back to before Disneyland or Walt Disney World even opened.
Walt Disney initially came up with the idea for a Mississippi steamboat attraction for the Disney Studio in Burbank, California. However, the Burbank Studio did not have the land to build the attraction so Walt decided to transfer the concept to Disneyland.
In order to create the attraction, Disney had to construct the first American-made, working steamboat in 50 years. Admiral Joe Fowler oversaw the construction of what would become The Mark Twain Riverboat in Disneyland.
The Mark Twain was built in two separate pieces. The hull was constructed in San Pedro, California and the deck was built at the Disney Studios in Burbank. The ship was assembled in Disneyland and The Mark Twin Riverboat debuted on July 17, 1955, for Disneyland’s opening day.
When Walt Disney World was in development, the riverboat was one of the attractions Imagineers decided to include in the opening day plans, however, it wasn’t quite ready.
The Admiral Joe Fowler Riverboat opened one day after the park, on October 2, 1971. It was named in tribute to the man who had helped to create Disneyland and Walt Disney World, as well as the Riverboat attractions.
When the riverboat first debuted, live entertainment could often be found on deck because there wasn’t much else for guests to see on the Rivers of America at the time.
Since Walt Disney World did not yet have enough attractions to meet demand, in 1973 a second steamboat was built. The Richard F. Irvine Riverboat entered into service on May 20, 1973. It was named after the late Disney executive, Richard F. Irvine, who oversaw the planning and construction of Walt Disney World.
The only difference between the two steamboats was that The Admiral Joe Fowler had two smokestacks, while The Richard F. Irvine only had one.
In fall of 1980, The Admiral Joe Fowler Riverboat was destroyed in a drydock accident. Disney decided not to repair it, and the bell from the riverboat was added to the #4 engine known as the Roy O. Disney on the Walt Disney World Railroad .
In 1996, The Richard F. Irvine was completely refurbished and returned to service as The Liberty Belle Riverboat.
The attraction itself was renamed the Liberty Square Riverboat to make it easier to remember and to tie the boat in with Liberty Square.
With one ship gone and the other one renamed, Disney decided to pay homage to Admiral Fowler and Richard Irvine by naming two ferries that run from the Ticket and Transportation Center to the Magic Kingdom after them in 1999.
The narration aboard the Liberty Belle has expanded as more rides have been added to Frontierland . References to Tom Sawyer Island , Splash Mountain (the future Tiana’s Bayou Adventure ), and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad have all been added to the script.
In 1992, the Powhatan Native Americans were added to the attraction after the release of the Disney-animated film, Pocahontas .
The Liberty Belle underwent extensive rehab from September 2005 to September 2006, and then in 2018 it was completely overhauled with a new boiler.

The Liberty Belle takes you on a relaxing tour around Liberty Square and Frontierland. Along the way you’ll see some great views of the Haunted Mansion, Thunder Mountain, and Splash Mountain. You’ll get an especially good look at Tom Sawyer Island—it’s a great way to check it out if you haven’t been there yet.
You’ll also catch a glimpse of what life was like for the frontier settlers (including some of the dangers that they faced!).

The Liberty Square Riverboat attraction docks at – you guessed it – Liberty Square. The boat itself is named the Liberty Belle. It’s an old-timey (read: historic) steam-powered paddle-wheel riverboat that travels around the Rivers of America. As you ride, you’ll hear a recorded narrator share memories of Mark Twain’s time on the Mississippi. If you want to paddle along with us, keep reading. Oar (dad pun) to skip to the whys, wheres, and hows, here’s your shortcut .
The Liberty Belle Riverboat is a large (47-foot tall) working reproduction of the boats that ran up and down the Mississippi River in the 19th century. It’s loaded with amazing details, as you might expect. The wood craftsmanship throughout is absolutely meticulous! The large paddle is powered by an actual steam engine that functions by converting water from the Rivers of America into steam, turning the paddle to propel the boat.
The ride begins as its captain, Horace Bixby, welcomes guests aboard. He introduces his pilot, Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) and lets you know you’re in good hands, since this is Clemens’ 100th trip piloting the Liberty Belle. You depart from the dock and navigate the winding “river”. Along the way, you’ll get views of the Magic Kingdom you just can’t get anywhere else. You’ll see Tom Sawyer Island, Harper’s Mill, and Fort Langhorn from a new vantage point. Other sights from the American frontier include settler’s cabins, old mining paraphernalia, a Native American village, animatronic wildlife, and even Wilson’s Cave Inn from Davy Crockett and the River Pirates. The riverboat also offers unique perspectives of the Haunted Mansion and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. From the top deck especially, you’ll see Frontierland and Liberty Square in a whole new way.
As you ride, Sam Clemens offers his recollections of riding up and down the Mighty Mississippi. He points out various landmarks and shares a little about what he learned during his time on the river. Periodically, the horn and bell system are used, so you have to be prepared for the occasional and unpredictable ear-blasting loud outbursts. (I found that being toward the stern, rather than the bow, made the horn a bit more bearable.)
The first boat to sail the Rivers of America in the Magic Kingdom was the Admiral Joe Fowler. Named after Disneyland’s construction supervisor, it debuted on October 2, 1971, the day after the park’s official opening. In 1973, a second boat, the Richard F. Irvine, debuted. It was named after the Disney executive who oversaw the planning of Walt Disney World. Both boats ran on the river until 1980. The Richard F. Irvine was overhauled and received an all-new superstructure of aluminum and vinyl. The boat was renamed the Liberty Belle, and the attraction itself was renamed the Liberty Square Riverboat to make it easier to remember and to tie the boat in with Liberty Square. (Side note: two of the three ferry boats running from the Transportation and Ticket Center to the Magic Kingdom are now named the Admiral Joe Fowler and Richard F. Irvine, so their memory lives on!)
The scenery along the Rivers of America has been updated over the years. Tom Sawyer Island was added in 1973 and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in 1980. Similar versions of this attraction have also been added to other Disney Parks. At Disneyland Paris, it’s called the Rivers of the Far West. At Hong Kong Disneyland, there is no Frontierland, so the Imagineers merged the Rivers of America with the classic Adventureland Jungle Cruise attraction.
Captain Horace Bixby, the Liberty Belle’s captain, was a real steamboat captain on the Mississippi. Horace Bixby and Sam Clemens met aboard a steamboat called The Paul Jones. Bixby agreed to take Sam on as his apprentice. About 21 years later, the now-famous Mark Twain reunited with Captain Bixby in St. Louis. The captain even makes an appearance in Twain’s book, Life on the Mississippi.
Inside The Liberty Belle’s Salon, there is a copy of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain.
The riverboat actually travels along an I-beam guide rail, so the pilot doesn’t really steer the ship. But that doesn’t mean he’s doing nothing. Rather, the pilot watches for other river traffic, like the Rafts to Tom Sawyer Island, and communicates to the boiler engineer who is on the bottom deck towards the stern. This is where the throttle and reverser are located, so the boiler engineer controls the speed and direction of the riverboat.
You can catch a ride on the Liberty Belle at the Magic Kingdom’s Liberty Square. There are no health or safety advisories and no height restrictions. Guests may remain in a wheelchair/ECV to ride the Liberty Belle. Sign language interpreters may be available, depending on when you visit. It’s truly a ride that everyone can enjoy.
The Liberty Belle has a maximum capacity of 450 people. You board the boat at mid-level; disembarking guests exit from the lower deck. There are 4 decks with limited seating available on each (some inside, some outside) but with plenty of space to stand and move around.
The Liberty Belle provides a stable, gentle ride. I’m vulnerable to motion sickness/sea sickness but have no trouble whatsoever riding the Liberty Belle. It’s a great idea to move around on the deck during this 17-minute trip to be sure to see all the different views.
Bad weather can affect the operation of the Liberty Belle Riverboat. Genie+ is not available, but there’s no need for it. There’s no bad time of day to ride the Liberty Belle. It departs roughly every half-hour and usually the only waiting is waiting for the boat to leave or return. A good time of day to enjoy your ride is when you want a break from the crowds! But it’s worth noting that it closes earlier than the park and other park attractions; there is also no Early Theme Park Entry and no Extended Evening Theme Park hours.
We ride the Liberty Belle nearly every time we visit Walt Disney World. But it’s not for thrill-seekers, to be sure. It’s perfectly peaceful – unless of course you’re right underneath the horn which is jarringly loud. It’s a great way to get out of the crowds, rest a bit, and enjoy a fun ride for every member of the family.

“Welcome aboard the Liberty Belle!” That’s how the narration begins as you embark down the Rivers of America on the Liberty Square Riverboat at Magic Kingdom. This beloved steamboat attraction has quite a history. Walt Disney originally came up with the idea to build a steamboat for Disneyland. He enlisted the help of Admiral Joe Fowler, who oversaw the construction of the steamboat. That first boat was named the Mark Twain.
A duplicate attraction was built for Magic Kingdom Park. While it wasn’t an original opening day attraction, it was close. The Admiral Joe Fowler opened on October 2, 1971, a day after the park’s grand opening. Walt Disney World’s version was named to honor the man Walt hired to oversee the attractions.
Funny enough, in its first few years, Magic Kingdom didn’t have enough attractions to meet the demands of guests. So, a second boat was added in 1973, the Richard F Irvine. Unfortunately, the original Admiral Joe Fowler was damaged at some point, leaving Richard F. Irvine as the sole steamboat attraction. Then, in the 90s, Richard F. Irvine was renamed the Liberty Belle to make the name more relatable to the surrounding Liberty Square.
So, the current riverboat is the Liberty Belle. Fun Fact: now Magic Kingdom’s two ferries are named Admiral Joe Fowler, in honor of the retired navy admiral, and Robert F. Irvine, the construction overseer of Walt Disney World. Let’s look at a few details about taking your own Liberty Square Riverboat voyage.
Update : It was announced at the 2024 D23 Ultimate Disney Fan Event that a new expansion was coming to Frontierland at Magic Kingdom. Days later, the Disney Parks Blog announced that Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America would be part of this expansion. Therefore, the Liberty Belle might not be available in the very near future.
Here’s a quote from the Disney Parks Blog:
It’s time to leave Radiator Springs and head west into exciting new locations. To make way for this completely new frontier, the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island will be transformed into vast and rugged terrains for a rally race with some of the world’s most iconic racers.

The boat circles around Tom Sawyer Island offering tremendous views. |
Accessibility: Guests may remain in a wheelchair or ECV to experience this attraction. A separate waiting area is available on the lower level of the boat.
Magic Kingdom’s Liberty Square Riverboat attraction is in Liberty Square past The Haunted Mansion and across the walkway from Columbia Harbour House.
There’s a large covered entrance in front of the boat dock. If you were to see the boat docked and guests waiting to board, you can usually join the line and walk on in a matter of minutes.
Liberty Belle departs every hour on the hour and the half hour. Typically, this attraction is open from 9:30 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. (or dusk).
Here is a view of the waiting area from the boat. Most guests will board on the second-floor deck. Guests with wheelchairs load on the first floor. All guests will unload on the first-floor deck.
When you board the Liberty Belle, you can go upstairs, downstairs, or stay on the middle deck.
If it’s not too busy, you might like to explore the steamboat.
However, if you want to stay in the shade, you’ll want to secure a spot quickly.
Or you might prefer a spot in direct sunlight.
Whatever you decide, it’s important to stand along the railings when possible. You’ll see several scenes during your trip down the river.
It takes approximately 17 minutes to travel full circle around Tom Sawyer’s Island. One of the first sights you’ll see is Harper’s Mill.
On the opposite side of the boat, you can see Frontierland.
As soon as you set sail, the narration begins. You’ll hear a recording of Captain Horace Bixby announcing that you’re setting sail. He then introduces you to Samuel Clemens, aka Mark Twain. Samuel Clemens tells the story of his time on the Mississippi River.
Another fun fact, the Liberty Belle Riverboat runs on an underwater track. Unfortunately, she doesn’t run off steam. But you wouldn’t notice this unless the attraction was under refurbishment. When that happens, Disney drains the water from the river, and you can see the track.
After passing Harper’s Mills, you’ll see Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in the distance.
The Liberty Belle continues past Big Thunder Mountain Railroad .
If you’re on this side of the steamboat, it’s exciting to see the train cars racing past.
Some of the other sights include:
There’s a nod toward Native American history.
There are also a few places to see some of the fun activities offered on the island.
As you return to the dock, a familiar sight comes into view.
Not only is the Liberty Belle a relaxing boat ride, but it also offers an exceptionally unique perspective of the Haunted Mansion.

At about this time, the Liberty Belle’s boat dock came into view. As always, it was a nice reprieve from the theme park crowds.
Sadly, it’s time to disembark.
Hopefully, this review encourages you to ride the Liberty Square Riverboat on your next vacation. She is a beautiful vessel.
While we enjoy the Liberty Square Riverboat, it’s not necessarily a must-do attraction, so we’re giving it the red light. Now, if you’re visiting on a busy holiday and need a place to escape with a shorter line than everywhere else, this is an excellent option. We enjoy charting the waters of the Rivers of America, but it does take up what some might consider valuable touring time.
Our Traffic Signal Guidelines
Green Light:
We give an attraction the green light if it’s something we consider a must-do, regardless of the posted wait. We also green light any attractions we deem suitable to experience anytime because of a high-load capacity.
We recommend checking the posted wait times for red light attractions. Then, make a quick judgment call on whether to wait, skip it, or return later.

Sure would appreciate someone who has taken "Best of Moscow by high speed train" from St. Petersburg could please share their impressions of this shore excursion. From the description this sounds like a very long day.
Wondering how the 4 hour train trip was in terms of accommodations, etc. Also what time did you leave the ship and what time at night did you return? Were both legs of the trip on the high speed rail (I read that slower trains also travel the same tracks)?
My wife and I are considering this excursion. We thought that if we are making all the effort to go to Russia then how could we pass up going to Moscow, walking in Red Square, seeing St. Basil, etc.
If you are considering this on the 2015 June Baltic cruise on Voyager; my suggestion is don't. There is so much to do in St. Petersburg and although a train is one of my favorite ways to travel the time would be far better spent in St. P.
Thanks for the advice. Yes, this would be on the Voyager during the 2015 season but not yet sure exactly which cruise.
We did the Moscow excursion "on a different luxury line", but from your brief description it sounds very much like the same trip, so I will operate on that assumption. It is a VERY long day! We left the ship at 5:30 AM and returned at 12:30 AM. The highspeed train trip is comfortable, and while they call it "Business Class" it does not compare well to the equivalent class on say Rail Europe. When we did it in 2011, we did have highspeed both ways, and the trip back seemed much longer as the adrenaline and excitement had worn off!:D
Moscow itself is not that terribly different from any other big city in the world, but this Cold War kid never thought he would ever stand in Red Square, never mind walk the grounds of The Kremlin, or tour The Kremlin Palace, or see (but not visit) Lenin's Tomb, or visit The Armoury. But he did, and he loved every minute of it! Yes, it is a long day, and you barely scratch a scratch on the surface, but it is worth it. There is a tremendous amount to see in St. Petersburg, but every Baltic cruise goes to St. Petersburg, so you can go back if you choose to. Not every cruiseline offers you the chance to see Moscow.
I have not personally done this tour, but our last time in St Petersburg, the private guide that we hired for a day was leading the regent tour to Moscow on the high speed train the next day. He said it was way better than the previous alternative, which was flying to Moscow and back. He said that you actually got to Moscow faster because you didn't have to deal with airline checkin etc. it did seem like a very long day to me, and there is so much to see and do in st. Petersburg that I didn't consider doing it.
We toured to Moscow from St. Petersburg via the hi-speed SAPSAN train last September, from a Baltic cruise on the Oceania Marina. You need to have a two-night, three day port call in St. Petersburg to take this tour because the tour typically leaves the ship around 5:00 - 5:30 AM and doesn't return until after midnight the next day. We didn't take the ship's tour; we made private arrangements with TravelAllRussia for three days of touring, the first and third days in St. Petersburg and the second day the tour to Moscow by train. Our cost for the private tour for three days was about the same as what the ship charged for the excursion to Moscow alone. There are a number of private tour agencies that operate in St. Petersburg and offer the Moscow train tours; we would strongly recommend them over the ship's tours.
All three days had private guides with car and driver. The second day, the driver picked us up at the ship and took us to the train, but we were alone on the train, and met in Moscow by the guide on the station platform. After our tour and dinner, we were brought back to the train and after the return train trip met by the driver and taken back to the ship. Because you are alone on the train you must have your own Russian visas.
If this is your first visit to St. Petersburg, I would agree there is much more to see there. We found Moscow somewhat a disappointment, particularly Red Square. The Kremlin and the cathedral in Red Square were also worth seeing. But the best thing we saw was the Moscow subway! I worked for the Washington Metro system back in the 1980s as it grew from 40 to 80 miles and although I was in the computer area, I learned a lot about the challenges of running a subway system. We used the Moscow system to get across the city from where we had dinner to the train station, and I was amazed at the cleanliness', speed of operation, the short headways maintained, and the courtesy of everyone involved. A very impressive experience!
We had been to St. Petersburg before, and so had the time to take a day and go to Moscow. Also, I really like trains, and the SAPSAN is a German train set running on Russian rails. Seats are like first class domestic air, spacious but not too plush or comfortable, but with enough room. Not too much recline, and almost 8 hours on the train in two shots is a lot for an old man. They come through and sell drinks, candy, etc. but the sellers don't speak English and no one around us helped, so we had just poor coffee once coming, and brought stuff with us for the trip back. Not too much to see from the train either, particularly on the return when it is night the whole way.
If you decide to go, take a private tour and avoid the overly expensive ship's tour. I'm glad we did it, but wouldn't bother to repeat the tour; we've seen Moscow.
Thanks so much to all of you for the thorough and thought insight. Yhe information you have provided is most helpful.
countflorida: Your detailed post is very helpful. We are not quite ready for a Baltic cruise but should do so within a year. Time enough to do our pre travel research, bookings and visa gathering.:) Thank you!

I did this on Seabourn. IMO DONT. Take Aeroflop (er Aeroflot). The train has non folding seats where you are literally knee to knee with your fellow passenger (facing each other). Further they don't believe in air conditioning. It's also the worlds slowed bullet train. I think I would have found more enjoyment wandering around the St. Petersburg and Moscow airports.
Countflorida,
This is a little off topic,, however we had planned a river cruise in Russia but decided we would rather stay on land and have booked about two weeks with Travel-All-Russia using the private guide and driver. I'm curious as to how you found them as a tour company.
The guides they provided were fine. We had a different guide each of the days in St. Petersburg, but both were flexible, pleasant, knowledgeable and spoke English very well, as did the guide in Moscow, incidentally. She was a bit aloof, distant, not too friendly, but otherwise fine. In fact, she was the one who suggested taking the Metro, which unexpectedly became one of the highlights of the Moscow excursion. If I have a complaint with AllTravelRussia, it is with their plan and its execution (more later).
I had requested emphasis on World War II (in Russia, the Great Patriotic War) sites and info. In scheduling us, they weren't careful about dates and a couple of the sites we wanted to see were scheduled on the third day, after we'd been to Moscow. But both sites were closed that day of the week, and that info was readily available, right on web sites describing them. Also, the included meals (lunches in St. Pete, dinner in Moscow) were not what we asked for: light meals with some choices, so we could avoid things we didn't like and choose things we did like. My request was ignored; we were given full Russian meals with a fixed menu, no choice. On the first day, a fish dish was the entre, but I am allergic to fish. Fortunately, I had the e-mail I'd sent with me and showed it to the guide, and she was able to change my entre to chicken, which was very good actually. But we didn't want a 3-4 course lunches or dinner (in Moscow). We had the guide drop the lunch the third day, although we never got any credit or refund. But, particularly in contrast to the ship's tours, the prices were so reasonable we didn't worry too much about it.
The people who were on the ship's tour to Moscow saw us boarding the same train for which they were forced to queue up and wait on the way back, and asked us what we had done. I was candid and open so they were not happy when I explained what we had arranged and particularly what it had cost. Also, when we returned to the ship, we found they had laid on a late supper for those who had gone to Moscow, so up we went and had something. Well, it turns out the late supper was supposed to be just for those on the ship's tour, but we and others on 'independent' tours, there were a dozen or more of us, crashed the party, actually got there first, and they didn't realize it until the larger group arrived and there weren't enough tables/places set. By that time, the 'independents' had all gotten served and were eating; what could they do?
A couple from the larger group sat down with us and asked us about our tour, and they were the ones I told about our arrangement and its cost. They turned to others who’d been with them and announced the details, loudly enough so the whole room heard, which started a lot of bitching and complaining. I gathered they weren't very happy with the ship's tour to begin with, and this was the straw that broke the camel's back. We finished up and beat it out of there, but overheard later that one of the excursion staff came to check on something and ran into a real mess. I caught a cold on the trip, which forced me to bed the second day following in Tallinn, so by the time we reappeared we heard about the contretemps' but apparently no one recalled who started it, thankfully.
Because of what happened to us, I would probably not use AllTravelRussia if I were to go again, or if I did, I would be sure to get confirmation of every detail of the tour. They do have good reviews generally, and we were certainly helped by their visa department and liked the guides and drivers. Their weakness, I say now with full 20:20 hindsight, is that once the sales person who plans the tour, sells it to you and collects your money, he (or she) transfers the plan to their Russia office for implementation; there is no follow-up to make sure it gets done right. And that is where our problems arose; we paid for a custom tour but got a standard package with a few destinations switched, and no one checked them out, even to see when they were open the day we were scheduled to go. If you check every detail that’s important to you, it should be OK, but that’s a hell of a way to have to do business, in my opinion.
Thank you for the 20/20 hindsight observation on your Russian tour operator, and better priced than the ship's excursion cost.
Thanks very much for the feedback.
We had the same experience as you so far as price. We originally booked a Viking Cruise but, hearing some things about the river cruises that made us unhappy, looked into other options. T-A-R cost the same or less than a cruise and had us in hotels for 11 days. We opted for the private tour. They have three tour levels, based on hotels. We originally opted for the four star as it did not cost much more than the three star hotels. Finally we decided to throw it all in and upgraded to five star. In Moscow we will be at the newly opened Kempinsky which is two blocks from Red Square. In St. Petersburg it is the Grand Hotel Europe, one of the most vaunted luxury hotels in Russia. Location is important for us as the tours use up only part of the day so being in the center of everything for our independent touring is important. As with many other cities, the less you pay, the farther out of the center of town you are.
We have been working with our salesman in D.C. and he seems to get back to us with the changes we want. He recently returned from Russia so is up on everything. When I asked they said they paid the full TA commission if I wanted so I got my usual TA on board so he is watching our back and giving us that extra level of comfort. He also set up our air, which I know pays him little or nothing, and got us business class for much less than T-A-R wanted for economy, though it took working for a while with a consolidator. He's happy to get his 10 percent on this trip without having booked it. He also took care of the trip insurance. We've been doing a lot of research on the CC sister site Trip Advisor and will write a report there. We will, I guess, become a source of info for CC members after having spent 5 days in Moscow and 6 in SP.
Anybody considering a day trip to Moscow from St. Petersburg on the Sapsan may want to look at our travelogue filled with pictures.

Enjoy a slow cruise down the Rivers of America aboard an authentic steam-powered sternwheeler. The Liberty Square Riverboat is located in Liberty Square across from the Hall of Presidents and to the left of the Haunted Mansion .
The Rivers of America wind their way around Tom Sawyer Island . The half-mile journey takes just under 20 minutes to travel. The Liberty Belle departs several times a day from the Liberty Boat Landing . Although there are some seats, most areas are standing room only.
From on board the Liberty Belle, you’ll spot great views of Tom Sawyer Island, Haunted Mansion, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, along with some sights of Frontierland natives — which can only be seen from the boat.
This is a good place to go for a break from the hectic walkways of the Magic Kingdom . Kids can walk around on board and burn off a bit of energy — though this is usually more loved by adults.
Accessibility: Guests may remain in wheelchair/ECV.
The original boat, an authentic sternwheeler steamboat called the Admiral Joe Fowler , was built in dry dock at Walt Disney World and set afloat when the attraction opened on May 20, 1973. The Richard F. Irvine was later added as a second boat. After its extensive rehab in the ’90s, the boat was renamed the Liberty Belle in 1996.
In 1980, the Admiral Joe Fowler was sent to dry dock maintenance and never returned.
Admiral Joe Fowler was in charge of construction at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World .
Dick Irvine worked as an art director at Disney in the 1940s and was an early executive of WED Enterprises . His projects included planning and design for the theme parks and the World’s Fair projects.

The Liberty Square Riverboat is a large paddle-wheel driven boat that navigates the 'Rivers of America' waters that surround Tom Sawyer Island and Fort Langhorn. It passes settler cabins, an old mining paraphernalia, an Indian village and a range of audio-animatronic wildlife.
The boat, the 'Liberty Belle' is an authentic replica of an old style paddle-wheel driven boat and holds approximately 450 guests across its 3 decks.
From the boat you can get a great view of both Frontierland and Liberty Square and is a great place to unwind and get out of the crowds.
The boat operates several times throughout the day.

Today, we’re highlighting one of Walt Disney World’s most overlooked attractions that deserves its moment in the spotlight. The Liberty Square Riverboat (aka the Liberty Belle) is the massive boat located in Liberty Square that you’ve most likely walked right past on every single visit to Magic Kingdom.
We’re highlighting what makes this attraction so unique, and why everyone- regardless of their age- should always take a ride on the Liberty Belle when they visit Magic Kingdom. Let’s explore the boat!
Like many things in the Parks, the Liberty Square Riverboat is a look back in time. The Liberty Belle is a historically accurate, working representation of the steam ferry boats that served as passenger vessels on the Mississippi…’working’ being the key word here!
The Liberty Belle is a fully steam-powered vessel! The waterways in which you’re sailing on are actually the fuel that propels the Liberty Belle! The water from the Rivers of America are converted into mighty steam power that turns the giant paddle and actually propels you on your journey!
We can’t overlook the intricacies of the Liberty Belle’s craftsmanship. On each of the 4 decks, you’ll find beautiful deeply stained, hand-carved wood that makes up the structure of the boat. The beautiful woodwork extends to the hand-laid floor board underfoot as well.
The ornate carvings in the woodwork beneath the banisters give the Liberty Belle a historically accurate feel that blends perfectly with the Rivers of America’s surrounding themeing.
Most steam-powered boats featured an enclosed cabin for passengers to relax in.
Be it during a storm or particularly warm day, passengers of the Liberty Belle have that very same luxury as passengers of days past- as the boat features a cabin perfect for escaping the sun- and for brushing up on your history!
Photos of a developing New Orleans and the surrounding Mississippi River route are pictured in black-and-white framed photos on the walls of the cabin.
Don’t stay in one spot and miss your chance to explore the Liberty Belle on your journey…it’s the ONE attraction at Magic Kingdom that encourages you to get up and move around while the ride is in motion!
For starters, the Liberty Belle is the perfect generation-spanning attraction, meaning EVERYONE from infants to Great-Grandparents can hop aboard. Not only will you be journeying on a real steam-powered boat, but you can travel from deck to deck during the voyage to explore the different levels and views that each offer.
The Liberty Belle is also one of the best attractions for fantastic photos. If you’re a pro photographer or are shooting for Instagram, the views afforded by a trip around the Rivers of America are unparalleled.
Be ready to snap shots of Splash Mountain, Big Thunder, and the Haunted Mansion from angles you won’t get from the walkways.
Finally, the Liberty Belle was one of those attractions originally conceived by Walt himself- and we believe any attraction Walt himself had a hand in creating is ALWAYS must-rides! Have you been aboard the Liberty Belle, or is on your list for your next visit? Leave me a comment and let me know!

7 totally cool things about liberty square riverboat at walt disney world.
Posted by: Jason Dick April 17, 2018
Walt Disney World knows how to create nostalgia. And a great example of this is the Liberty Square Riverboat in Disney’s Magic Kingdom. It’s a beautiful, colonial, steam-powered riverboat, and it’ll instantly transport you to a simpler time, as you cruise along the Rivers of America. Here are our favorite things about the Liberty Square Riverboat.
7. Come One, Come All
We love the exclusivity of the Liberty Square Riverboat! Because it’s a slow-moving boat ride, there are no height or age restrictions, and it’s a family-friendly attraction. It might not keep thrill-seekers entertained, but we think it’s a brilliant way to take a break from the chaos of a busy day in the parks. Wheelchairs and ECVs can board the boat, and there is even sign language interpretation offered at certain times of the week.
6. Fun Facts
Spoilers ahead! While the attraction is named the Liberty Square Riverboat, the vessel itself is called the Liberty Belle. Your voyage will last around 20 minutes, and it will take you through the Rivers of America. For those who are curious, the river is only about 6 feet deep, and the riverboat is actually on a track in the water, much like the boats on Jungle Cruise! The water itself is dyed green, so that guests won’t be able to see the track, and have the magic ruined.
5. Unparalleled Views
Adventurers who want to explore Tom Sawyer Island can take the log raft over to the island and wander around to their hearts’ content. But if you’re looking for the best views of Tom Sawyer Island, then you’ll want to ride the Liberty Belle! The riverboat takes you around the entirety of Tom Sawyer Island, and along the way, you’ll also see unique views of several key Magic Kingdom attractions, including Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Splash Mountain and Haunted Mansion.
4. Delightful Decks
While you enjoy your journey on the Liberty Belle, you can choose from 4 decks to sit or stroll or explore. The top deck, or pilothouse, contains the wheelhouse and Captain’s quarters. Wander along the Promenade Deck to view photos and maps from a by-gone era, or enjoy the warm Floridian sun on the Sun Deck. Of course, the real action is on the Main Deck, where you’ll find the workings of the boat itself, including the pistons that run the paddlewheel, and the boiler. There’s a lot to explore on your river cruise!
3. Family of Riverboats
The Liberty Belle is in good company! A riverboat named the Mark Twain debuted in Disneyland when it opened in 1955, and it was the first riverboat that had been build in the country in half a century. Guests can now also enjoy riverboat attractions at Walt Disney World, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris. WDW originally had two riverboats, the Admiral Joe Fowler and the Richard F. Irvine; the latter changed its name to the Liberty Belle in the 1990s, and is now the sole riverboat in the Magic Kingdom.
2. Working Reproduction
History buffs and boat fans alike will enjoy learning about the Liberty Belle. It’s almost 50 feet tall, with some beautifully crafted woodwork. It’s actually a faithful replica of the types of boats that used to carry passengers up and down the Mississippi River, which means it’s a unique glimpse into the past. How does it work? The Liberty Belle’s steam engine turns water into steam, and it’s that steam that provides the power to turn the paddlewheel, which drives the boat.
1. Famous Voice
Your voyage on the Liberty Belle is narrated by several characters, and Disney fans might recognize one of the recorded voices: it’s none other than Thurl Ravenscroft, the famous voice behind Tony the Tiger (of Frosted Flakes fame). Thurl provided the speaking and singing voices for many iconic Disney rides – you’ve probably heard his voice many times, even if you didn’t realize it! He voiced the lead bust in Haunted Mansion, various voices in the Enchanted Tiki Room, Buff in the Country Bear Jamboree, and multiple pirates in Pirates of the Caribbean!

2024 longtail rally: supercar drivers tour times square—and tame a dragon.
A McLaren 600LT and the author's Porsche 911 Turbo S cross Pennsylvania on LongTail Rally 2024
How do the folks at LongTrail Rally top an event that’s already treated participants to a run up California’s Highway 1, a Pikes Peak Hill Climb, and a helicopter ride over Yellowstone — on the way to hot laps at Utah Motorsports Campus? Clearly this really has set high expectations, with drivers wondering what was in store for year four, and how it can top what’s come before? Especially when the LongTail Rally’s fourth iteration required shipping cars to New York City before things even got started...
Those questions were asked and answered on the 2024 LongTail Rally, as the 8-day excursion saw exotic cars parading through New York’s Times Square, taking over PNC Park in Pittsburgh, gathering at the posh Greenbrier luxury resort in West Virginia, and taming the famed Tail of the Dragon in Deals Gap, North Carolina. Each of these locations was strung together by some of the best driving roads east of the Mississippi, and all of them included thrilling activities far beyond the joy of driving high-performance cars on America’s picturesque highways.
LongTail Rally "mom" Julie Milne celebrates with participants and Lady Liberty
Before cruising through the East Coast we had to Cruise along the most famous U.S. coastline. Boarding the “Enchanted” yacht shortly before sunset meant watching New York City’s famous city lights come up as the sun went down. Our 3-hour tour didn’t end in a shipwreck-based TV series, though it did see LongTail Rally veterans reconnecting while welcoming first-timers. The multi-course dinner cruise also offered unobstructed views and photo ops of iconic landmarks like the Statue of Liberty, One World Trade Center, and the Brooklyn Bridge.
The MB&F McLaren 720S "shark" leads LongTail Rallyers through Times Square
The first day of driving kicked off with a head-turning parade of Bentleys, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, McLarens, and Porsches making their way along Broadway, through Times Square, and under the Hudson River. Many a Big Apple tourist could be seen fumbling for cell phone cameras as nearly two-dozen exotic cars rolled beneath New York’s sweeping digital displays. While not considered a car-friendly city, New York’s natives and visitors alike offered nothing but smiles and thumbs up as the stream of sweeping, brightly colored bodywork rolled through its maze of steel and glass.
The thrill of driving is heightened in a kart, despite their small size and lower speeds
After a 400-mile drive to Pittsburgh the first LongTail Rally “chill” day began with a karting competition at Pittsburgh International Race Complex. A warm-up heat, followed by a 60-minute endurance race for teams of three, identified which drivers found the smoothest line around the course. Karts offer a fraction of the speed and power found in modern supercars, but their low ride height and lack of wind protection makes them feel fast while rewarding drivers who maintain momentum around the race circuit. The fun factor has to be experienced to be believed.
Taking over Pittsburgh's PNC Park was yet another lifetime memory formed during LongTail 2024
Musk-trump x interview: trump takes friendly questions from musk after glitch-plagued start, trump vs. harris 2024 polls: harris expands lead in latest survey, day 2 evening: batting at pnc park.
The evening’s dinner was one for the memory banks, as it combined a LongTail Rally takeover of PNC Park with ballpark food and batting practice. Rally cars were driven through the park’s main (pedestrian) entrance and parked right next to Fat Head’s concessions stand. Once inside, participants could literally swing for the fences on the same home plate as big-league players while listening to a curated list of songs over the PA system. LongTail Rally-themed jerseys and Jumbotron graphics completed the once-in-a-lifetime takeover experience.
Will Collette and Matt Perry of Ghostworx park their Audi R8 and Porsche 911 at The GreenBrier
A scenic 260-mile hop through the Blue Ridge Mountains had the rally pulling up to historic Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia. A historic landmark oozing legacy, luxury, and tradition going back to 1778, the Greenbrier is also home to the famous “Project Greek Island” underground bunker. The secret fallout bunker was completed in 1962 to serve as an emergency shelter for congress during a nuclear strike, but was decommissioned in 1992 when its existence was revealed. Rally participants toured it, and enjoyed additional resort activities like trap shooting and falconry.
LongTail participants (and George Washington) dine in the government's formerly secret fallout ... [+] shelter
Another day of twists and turns through the Appalachian Mountains gave drivers a preview of coming attractions, including a particularly engaging stretch of pavement dubbed “The Back of the Dragon” that snakes through southwest Virginia. The Back of the Dragon compresses 438 turns into 32 miles and provides some of the best scenery you’ll find in North America. The lush greenery along this route looks more like an Amazon rainforest than American backcountry, though the sound of turbocharged six-, eight-, and 10-cylinder engines confirmed which country we were in. An excellent appetizer before LongTail Rally’s main course...
The 2024 LongTail Rally headline event — The Tail of the Dragon
If The Back of the Dragon’s 438 turns in 32 miles wasn’t enough to hold a driver’s interest, the Tail of the Dragon’s 318 turns in 11 miles surely did the trick. Boasting international fame as one of the best driving experiences on the planet, the Tail of the Dragon lived up to its hype. LongTailers enjoyed several back-and-forth excursions on this ribbon of road that borders the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. The Tail certainly requires your full attention, but its smooth pavement offers the perfect environment for capable cars driven by capable drivers.
A week of driving adventures brings LongTail members closer...maybe too close...
After begrudgingly departing The Dragon our rally troupe made its way to Music City. Nashville’s summer nightlife and charm rivals New Orleans’ during Marti Gras, with teeming revelers lining downtown streets as the sun sets. You can feel the energy of one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S., and after 7 days and 1,000 miles of automotive adventure it was the perfect last stop to celebrate car culture camaraderie. A final party at the Redneck Riviera on Broadway gave drivers and co-drivers a chance to relax and relive the week’s events.
Two heads, and drivers, are better than one, as reflected in the LongTail Rally's better half
And there was a lot to relive, with LongTail 2024 offering nearly as many “chill” days as driving days. For this fourth year the list of non-driving activities was the longest yet, and a testament to how well organizers Mike Knapp and Julie Milne have balanced traditional automotive adventure with rare and imaginative life experiences. Best of all, the LongTail Rally’s history of bringing like-minded enthusiasts together, and creating bonds that feel more like family than friends, is more prominent every time this unique event happens.
Mike Knapp and Julie Milne continue to make the magic happen on every LongTail event

There's more to The Happiest Place on Earth than Mickey pretzels (though they're pretty epic, TBH).
If we had to choose just 10 foods — just 10 things to eat in a single day at the Magic Kingdom, you know, for breakfast, second breakfast, lunch, dinner and all of the snacks in between — this would be them. If you're ready for more, keep clickin'.
Why yes, that IS macaroni and cheese and crumbled bacon on a foot-long hot dog, and yes, that IS why people refer to Disney as "the happiest place on Earth." Okay, that may not be the reason, but all that creamy, cheesy mac on top of a salty, smoky frank is a serious plus.

You might think the signature drink at Gaston's Tavern would involve 5 dozen eggs (how else would you get to be roughly the size of a barge ?!), but thankfully, that's not the case here. LeFou's Brew is essentially an apple juice slushie, mixed with a bit of toasted marshmallow flavoring, then topped with a passion fruit-mango foam. The fruity combo goes surprisingly well with one of the eatery's ham and cheese-stuffed pretzels.

The Northeast isn't the only place where you can find a great lobster roll. Disney's is chock full of giant chunks of lobstah, with just the right ratio of mayo, making it worth every penny of the $15 price tag. (Pro tip: Crush some of the extra-crispy potato chips on top.)

Head to Sleepy Hollow first thing to snag this catcher's mitt-sized sandwich, because by evening, the shack has a line that curves all the way around it. Tucked inside a giant Belgian waffle is a fried, boneless chicken breast slathered in sweet-and-spicy sauce, along with tangy cole slaw for crunch. It's easy to see why word of mouth travels so quickly.

Beauty and the Beast 's Lumiere wasn't kidding — the "grey stuff" is delicious. It tops the chocolate cake in the Master Cupcake, served during lunch at Be Our Guest, and it's essentially a cookies & creme-flavored frosting.

This pineapple-flavored soft serve's so popular it has its own cult following (the park even sells a Dole Whip-scented air freshener!). It's worth the hype — especially when served as a float with fresh pineapple juice. It's just what you need on a 90-degree-plus, 100-percent-humidity day in sunny Florida.

This meal's exactly what it claims to be: Pork roast piled high atop a mound of extra cheddar-y macaroni. It's not the thing you eat before running onto Space Mountain, but if you're headed anywhere else in the park, this hearty meal will keep you feeling full from It's A Small World to Monsters, Inc Laugh Floor.

Can you even consider it a trip to Disney if you haven't had a turkey leg? The parks sell 1.8 million pounds of them a year, making it the parks' bestseller, and for good reason: They're smoky, they're juicy, and they make you feel like a freaking viking when you bite into them. Seize the leg!

If you're going to treat yourself while you're on vacation, you might as well go all out. Choose any two flavors of ice cream and your drizzle of choice — hot fudge, peanut butter, caramel, and strawberry syrup are all options — then watch them get piled high with whipped cream and maraschino cherries. It's all served in a kitchen sink shaped like Mickey's drawers — a fitting reminder of that moment when your pants become unbuttonable (say, around the second-to-last bite of this sundae).

Vegetarians, don't despair: The Magic Kingdom's got options for you, too! This sandwich comes piled with hummus, broccoli slaw and tomatoes, all served on toasted wheat bread. It's got just the right mix of protein, fiber and whole grains to keep you running from ride to ride.
Sometimes, you just need a dose of Disney magic — in the form of fudgy chocolate cake and glittery sanding sugar — right when you enter the park. At Main Street Confectionery, you can get your cake pop fix (complete with chocolate-covered marshmallows, for the ears) in your choice of electric-bright colors: pink, purple, green, or blue.

The hot dogs at Casey's Corner are so legendary they deserved two spots on our list. The BBQ Slaw dog is like two meals in one — it's topped with enough pulled pork to fill a sandwich and an entire side's worth of cole slaw. You'll want to split this one. Trust.

We were all too ready to dismiss this chocolate bar as overhyped — until we took a bite. This isn't your usual, vaguely-chocolate-y coating; it's the kind of thick, rich dark chocolate that made one editor shout, "This is better than a Magnum bar!"

Caramelized onions and a zesty bell pepper sauce give the quinoa and baked veggies in this ratatouille life. Remy would be proud.

There's no better way to chill out after surviving the Jungle Cruise than with this apple juice- and passion fruit-based slushie, served in a Moscow Mule mug. It's topped with green apple-flavored boba balls (AKA tapioca pearls), which will remind you of gummy bears, so it's basically like you're having a drink and dessert at once.

Walt Disney World plans to shut down an attraction that’s been in operation as long as the Magic Kingdom has been open.
The Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade , a Old West-themed activity featuring infrared rifles, will close this month. Its final day of operation will be June 23, Disney confirmed Thursday.
A Disney Vacation Club lounge will take over the space, which is lodged in a tucked-away stretch between the theme park’s Diamond Horseshoe and Country Bear Jamboree attraction. It will have décor “inspired by the bygone ear of exploration and adventure,” a news release from DVC says. No opening date was available Thursday.
It will be the first DVC lounge at Magic Kingdom. There are also lounges in the Imagination Pavilion at Epcot and atop Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.
At Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade, visitors take aim at dozens of mostly stationary targets such as tombstones, vultures and gravedigger shovels. The activity has been free of charge since 2021. The guns originally shot lead pellets, but the attraction switched to infrared-light rifles in the early 1980s.
The closure comes as other Frontierland attractions are reopening. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, the remodeled Splash Mountain ride, opens to the public June 28. A revised and renamed Country Bear Musical Jamboree rejoins the lineup July 17.
Magic Kingdom attractions from 1971, the year of the park’s opening, that are still in operation include Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, Hall of Presidents, “it’s a small world,” Mad Tea Party, Prince Charming Regal Carrousel, Swiss Family Treehouse, Tomorrowland Speedway, Peter Pan’s Flight, Liberty Square Riverboat, Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room and Walt Disney World Railroad.

The Liberty Square Riverboat holds up to 450 passengers. Walt Disney strongly believed that the Riverboat was a vital part of Disneyland, so much so that he funded part of the construction himself when funds threatened to fall short.
The original boat, an authentic sternwheeler steamboat called the Admiral Joe Fowler, was built in dry dock at Walt Disney World and set afloat when the attraction opened on May 20, 1973. The Richard F. Irvine was later added as a second boat. After its extensive rehab in the '90s, the boat was renamed the Liberty Belle in 1996.

Liberty Square is one of six "themed lands" and is exclusive to the Magic Kingdom, a theme park at the Walt Disney World Resort in Bay Lake, Florida. Themed after colonial America, Liberty Square contains replicas of both the Liberty Bell and Liberty Tree.
The attraction is named Liberty Square Riverboat, but the ship itself is named the Liberty Belle. While the ship looks straight out of the 19th century, it was actually built in a dry dock on Disney property for the 1971 opening of Walt Disney World Resort.
