The 7 most anticipated new cruise ships of 2022

Gene Sloan

Cruise lines may have canceled many of their sailings over the past two years due to the coronavirus pandemic . But they didn't cancel orders for new ships.

As 2022 begins, major cruise operators such as Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line are moving forward with plans to unveil more than 20 new oceangoing vessels during the year. That's a big number in the cruise world — on par with the years before the pandemic.

For more cruise guides, news and tips, sign up for TPG's new cruise newsletter .

The new ships are coming even as many lines have yet to resume sailings with all the vessels in their existing fleets.

In some cases, the new ships will be arriving months behind schedule due to pandemic-related construction delays at the shipyards that are building them. Thanks to such delays, the arrival of a few ships that had been scheduled for delivery in 2022 will be pushed to 2023.

But it'll be a big year for new cruise ships nevertheless.

Among the most notable newcomers will be Royal Caribbean's Wonder of the Seas , the biggest cruise ship ever built (and by big, we're talking about a ship that can hold nearly 7,000 passengers). Originally set to debut in 2021, it's now scheduled to begin sailing in March .

There also will be major new ships coming from Norwegian Cruise Line, MSC Cruises and Disney Cruise Line . The latter, notably, hasn't had a new vessel debut in 10 years.

In all cases, the new ships that are on the way already are available for booking — and, indeed, booking up fast. Cruise fans always love to be on the latest and greatest.

Here, a list of the seven new ships arriving in 2022 we're most excited about:

Viking Octantis (Viking)

Maiden voyage: Jan. 12

msc yacht club world europa reviews

Fast-growing Viking has rolled out more than 70 new river cruise ships and oceangoing vessels since its founding in 1997. But there's never been one like this.

Designed to hold just 378 passengers, Viking Octantis is the line's first "expedition" cruise ship — a type of cruise ship specifically designed to take travelers to the most off-the-beaten-path parts of the world, including Antarctica and the Arctic.

As is typical for expedition ships, it's a tough vessel , with a reinforced bow that lets it bump through ice in polar regions and extra tanks for fuel and food. It also has its own landing craft on board to bring people ashore in remote locations as well as kayaks and even submarines for exploring (the latter being something that is relatively rare on cruise vessels of any type).

Like other expedition ships, Viking Octantis also sails with a large and seasoned "expedition team" that includes biologists, botanists, geologists, glaciologists and ornithologists who lecture regularly.

But there are several new and unusual features to Viking Octantis, too. Most notable is The Hangar, an enclosed marina that allows passengers to transfer to the ship's Zodiac landing craft while still in the protected interior of the ship. It's a first for an expedition cruise ship.

Viking Octantis also is upscale. Like all of Viking's vessels, it has an elegant Scandinavian design. Its restaurants include a version of Viking's signature Italian spot, Manfredi's, and the Scandinavian-inspired Mamsen's outlet. Also familiar is a top-of-the-ship, glass-walled Explorers' Lounge promising stunning views of passing scenery.

In another first for polar expedition cruise vessels, every cabin on the vessel has floor-to-ceiling glass walls that slide partially open from the top to create a balcony-like feel.

The details: Viking Octantis debuted in January with sailings to Antarctica out of Ushuaia, Argentina and is repositioning to the Great Lakes for the summer. Fares for 12-night Antarctica trips start at $14,995 per person, not including taxes and fees. Great Lakes sailings start at $6,495 per person, not including taxes and fees. Wonder of the Seas (Royal Caribbean)

Maiden voyage: March 4

msc yacht club world europa reviews

Royal Caribbean is going big again with its next ship — really big. The latest in the line's groundbreaking Oasis Class of vessels , Wonder of the Seas will measure 236,857 tons, making it the biggest cruise ship ever built.

That's about 4% bigger than the current size leader in the cruise world, which also is part of Royal Caribbean's Oasis Class: The 3-year-old Symphony of the Seas .

Wonder of the Seas will be similar to Symphony of the Seas and three earlier Oasis Class vessels with a few new twists that will contribute to its bigger size, including a dedicated suite area with a private lounge, restaurant and sun deck. Like the four earlier Oasis Class ships, it will be 18 decks high and nearly 1,200 feet long — the equivalent of more than three football fields.

Royal Caribbean's first Oasis Class ship, Oasis of the Seas, debuted in 2009. The line added additional Oasis Class vessels in 2010, 2016 and 2018. Each of the ships has been a little bigger than the last, and they're all more than 20% bigger than any other cruise vessels afloat.

Like the earlier Oasis Class ships, Wonder of the Seas will offer multiple main pool areas, a kiddie splash zone, surfing simulators, a miniature golf course, a basketball court and even a zip line. And that's just on its top deck. Inside the vessel, you'll find more lounges, bars, restaurants and shops than you can imagine, plus a huge casino, spas and theaters with real Broadway shows.

As with earlier Royal Caribbean ships, it'll even have an indoor ice-skating rink.

The details: Wonder of the Seas initially will be based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for sailings to the Caribbean, before moving to the Mediterranean for the summer. Fares for seven-night Caribbean voyages start at $763 per person, not including taxes and fees. For more information, call 866-562-7625 or visit royalcaribbean.com .

Evrima (The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection)

Maiden voyage: May 6

msc yacht club world europa reviews

We feel like a broken record on this one, as we placed it on our list of the most anticipated new cruise ships of 2020 (the year it originally was scheduled to debut) and then shouted it out again on our list of the most anticipated new ships of 2021 . But after a seemingly never-ending series of delays blamed first on shipyard troubles and then on the COVID-19 pandemic, the very first ship from startup line The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection , the new luxury cruise division of The Ritz-Carlton , failed to debut during either year.

Now the line is adamant that it is truly coming in May. If it does (and we're sure hoping so), it'll be a notable event in the cruise world, marking the entry of one of the luxury hotel world's most famous brands into cruising.

Holding just 298 passengers, Evrima will be a small, yacht-like vessel with an elegant, residential look (as you might expect for Ritz-Carlton). Standout features will include spacious cabins, a stylish spa and lots of deck-top lounge space for sunning, plus five separate restaurants including an à la carte venue designed by Sven Elverfeld of the three Michelin-starred Aqua at The Ritz-Carlton, Wolfsburg, Germany .

Fans of Ritz-Carlton, for sure, are excited about the new vessel.

The details: After a series of five delays that have resulted in the cancellation of more than two years worth of cruises, Evrima now is scheduled to debut in May in Europe before repositioning to the Caribbean for the winter. Fares start at $3,900 per person, not including taxes and fees, for a seven-night voyage in the Caribbean. For more information, call 833-999-7292 or visit ritzcarltonyachtcollection.com .

Disney Wish (Disney Cruise Line)

Maiden voyage: July 14

msc yacht club world europa reviews

It's been a long time coming. But Disney Cruise Line finally is coming out with a new ship this year — its first in 10 years.

At 140,000-tons, Disney Wish will just be a tad bigger than Disney's last two new ships (Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy). But it'll have a whole new array of trademark Disney wow on board, from a Star Wars-themed "hyperspace lounge" that offers a "window" view of passing starships to Marvel- and "Frozen"-themed restaurants.

Cabins on the ship will include seven oceanview rooms located over the bridge — a first for Disney Cruise Line. These rooms will have an extended living area with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the bow and out across the ocean. And if all that isn't enough, there will be four Royal Suites with a Sleeping Beauty theme — two of which feature an insane two-story floorplan.

Among other notable features will be a reimagined Oceaneers Club (the area for kids 3 to 12 on Disney ships) where children can enter via a "magical slide." The Oceaneers Club also will offer a Marvel Super Hero Academy where kids can design (and virtually fly) in their own super suit. The club also will house Rapunzel's Art Studio, Belle's Library and Anna and Elsa's Sommerhus where there will be a variety of mini-games with Olaf serving as the host.

Disney Wish is just the first of three new "Triton Class" ships that Disney Cruise Line has on order for delivery over the next few years — an expansion that will nearly double its size when measured by passenger capacity.

The details: Disney Wish will sail three- and four-night trips to the Bahamas out of Port Canaveral, Florida. Fares start at $771 per person, not including taxes and fees. For more information, call 800-951-3532 or visit disneycruise.disney.go.com .

Seabourn Venture (Seabourn)

Maiden voyage: July 15

msc yacht club world europa reviews

Viking isn't the only major line getting into expedition cruising in 2022. So is Seabourn. Seabourn Venture will be the 33-year-old luxury line's very first expedition ship.

Like Viking Octantis, Seabourn Venture will be a hardy vessel specifically built to travel to some of the world's most remote places, including Antarctica and the Arctic. Indeed, it's scheduled to spend much of its time each year in the polar regions, while also offering sailings to such off-the-beaten-path, warm weather places as the Amazon.

Designed to carry just 264 passengers, it'll be a ship loaded with outdoor equipment for off-ship adventure, including kayaks and bikes. It'll also boast a staggering 24 Zodiac boats for waterborne exploring and landings in remote areas — enough to get every passenger off the ship at the same time (something that isn't always the case with expedition ships). And it'll be home to 26 expedition guides including scientists, historians and naturalists who will lecture regularly on board and lead guided tours on land.

But perhaps Seabourn Venture's standout adventure feature will be its two six-person submarines. As on Viking Octantis, passengers on Seabourn Venture will be able to explore the world under the water in polar regions as well as what's above the waterline.

The ship also will have a high-definition Cineplex camera that can pick up wildlife like a polar bear up to 4 miles away, streaming the footage into the Discovery Center while leaving the wildlife undisturbed.

On the luxury side of things, every room on Seabourn Venture will be a suite and have its own balcony — something that often isn't the case with expedition ships. And the ship's restaurants will serve elegant cuisine crafted in part by leading American chef Thomas Keller.

The details: Seabourn Venture will spend much of its first summer sailing in the Arctic before repositioning to Antarctica for the winter. Fares for Arctic sailings start at $11,099 per person, not including taxes and fees. For more information, call 206-626-8351 or visit seabourn.com .

Norwegian Prima (Norwegian Cruise Line)

Maiden voyage: Aug. 17

msc yacht club world europa reviews

For the first time in nearly 10 years, Norwegian Cruise Line is getting an entirely new class of ships. Under development since 2017, Norwegian Prima will be the first of six sister vessels scheduled to debut between 2022 and 2027 that collectively will be known as the Prima Class.

At 142,500 tons, Norwegian Prima will be notably smaller than the vessels the line has been adding in recent years, such as the 2-year-old, 169,116-ton Norwegian Encore — a factor that will allow it to access smaller ports around the world. But Norwegian Prima still will pack a lot of over-the-top amenities, including a go-kart track that spreads over three decks (a cruise industry first).

The ship also will boast The Drop, a 10-story dry slide that the line says will provide more G-force than an accelerating F1 racecar. Additionally, the vessel will be home to a three-deck theater that converts into a Las Vegas-style nightclub, and a list of interactive real-life gameshows, including at-sea versions of "The Price Is Right," "Supermarket Sweep," "Press Your Luck" and "Beat the Clock."

But Norwegian Prima will be about more than flashy entertainment and activities. It'll also mark a more upscale turn for the line. Norwegian says Norwegian Prima will offer the largest variety of suite categories (13) for a large ocean ship as well as the largest three-bedroom suites of any new cruise vessels as well as the brand's largest-ever inside, oceanview and balcony cabins.

Norwegian also says Norwegian Prima will offer the most outdoor deck space of any new cruise ship including more total pool deck space than any other ship in the brand's fleet.

The details: Norwegian Prima initially will sail in Northern Europe during the summer before repositioning to North America in the fall. Fares start at $799 per person, not including taxes and fees, for a five-night trip to Mexico out of Port Canaveral, Florida. For more information, call 800-657-5773 or visit ncl.com .

MSC World Europa (MSC Cruises)

Maiden voyage: Dec. 20

msc yacht club world europa reviews

It won't be quite the world's biggest cruise ship, though it will be close. At around 205,000 tons, MSC World Europa will be nearly as big as Royal Caribbean's record-size Oasis Class vessels, including the aforementioned Wonder of the Seas.

By one measure, it'll be even bigger. MSC World Europa will be 21 decks high — three decks higher than the Oasis Class ships. But it'll be less long and less wide than the Oasis Class ships, leaving it about 10% smaller in overall size.

Like the Oasis Class ships, MSC World Europa will be able to hold nearly 7,000 passengers with all berths filled — 6,762 to be exact.

As for its onboard offerings, MSC Cruises is taking a page from Royal Caribbean's playbook by breaking down the public areas of MSC World Europa into districts. They will include an adults-only "Zen district" and a separate "family district" that houses as many as 10 new kids facilities. There also will be a central interior promenade with entertainment, shops and bars.

In addition, MSC World Europa will have six pools and 14 hot tubs, making it one of the most pool-covered ships at sea. The watery offerings will include an Aquapark with multiple waterslides that will integrate virtual reality technology. There also will be a family sundeck.

MSC World Europa also will have 13 dining venues, including the new-for-the-line Chef's Garden Kitchen (an outlet focused on microgreens) and La Pescaderia, a traditional seafood grill with alfresco seating. In a twist, the ship will have three separate buffet restaurants as well, each with its own ambiance.

Drinking spots will include an English-style pub serving beer made on board as well as a new gin bar concept, a first for MSC Cruises. Dubbed Masters of the Sea Pub, it'll span two decks.

The details: MSC World Europa initially will sail in the Persian Gulf out of Dubai before repositioning to the Mediterranean for the summer of 2023. Fares for seven-night sailings start at $559 per person, not including taxes and fees. For more information, call 877-868-8870 or visit msccruisesusa.com .

There also are two new ships debuting for start-up line Virgin Voyages and new ships coming for Princess Cruises , Carnival Cruise Line and Celebrity Cruises — all sisters to previously unveiled vessels.

Viking also has several other new ships debuting in addition to Viking Octantis.

  • ZOE is an artificial intelligence device (voice-enabled, with advanced voice recognition software) available in all passenger staterooms.
  • ZOE speaks 7 languages, answer cruise-related questions, provides info on shipboard services-activities-facilities, makes reservations and bookings.
  • The digital device features far-field microphones, top-quality speaker, quad-core processor (for fast response times), direct phone connection (through Bluetooth). The system can also upgrade its own database to answer previously unanswerable questions.
  • Passenger data (including itinerary/tour and shipboard preferences) is stored in the Cloud Storage system and used on the next scheduled voyage.
  • The device (sized ~15 cm) can be activated whenever passengers choose. A waiver must be signed to agree for their personal data to be stored.

Starting with Bellissima (2019), ZOE is available on all newbuild MSC liners and to be introduced fleetwide by the year 2024.

MSC World Europa 9/1 through 9/8 in YachtClub

Cruiseswithfamilyornot

I was on the MSC World Europa cruise for one week roundtrip from Barcelona on 9/1 through 9/8.   We travelled in the Yacht Club(all) and were a group of 16 people spread out over 9 rooms including singles.    I have been on well over 50 cruises, but this was my first time on MSC.

I found alot of the other reviews on MSC World Europa to be spot on.   While there has been some time to refine/improve in some areas, some things are what they are.

Overall, I would say we enjoyed our cruise and the itinerary and found the Yacht Club to be very much worth it, despite some snafus.   Would be go on MSC again?  Really that depends on who you ask and what's more important to them as my more detailed review will show below.  In a nut shell, if you prefer the American way of cruising including more trivias, game shows and the like, then this is not the cruise for you.  But if being able to have that ship within a ship experience at  reasonable price is the most important thing to you, this is the ship for you.  I'm going to be blunt and honest here, but as I've said above, overall it was a very enjoyable experience but there were some things that were not.

Embarkation in Barcelona.   10/10.   We were in Yacht Club so separate line, we were on the ship in no time and received an overview and off to our room

Pre-boarding items:  In a word, poor.   You can book a massage and specialty restaurants, but you cannot set dates and times until you are on the ship.  That was crazy.   Likewise, cannot book shows in advance.  They also send you a questionnaire a few days before sailing with your choice of pillows, what you want the minibar stocked with, and which daily newspaper you want.  Then you get the EXACT SAME questionnaire when you board.   Then none of it is in your room anyway and you speak to your butler(which is fine btw) and things get done.  The newspaper never came till the last 2 days(which is fine honestly).  Major area of improvement.

Yacht Club amenities.  Some GREAT ones honestly.   #1 on the list for me, is each person in a room has two free internet sign ins on different devices.  My last 3 cruises were all luxury cruise lines and premium +(Oceania) and none of them gave you that.   I work full time as did some others so this was big.  Drinks covered up to 14 euros each, very nice.  There was a separate location to disembark the ship for yacht club guests and we never had a line one day, our butler insisted on walking us out.   Great lounge with entertainment every  night, never crowded.   They opened a place called La Brasserie as a second venue for the yacht club located in the buffet on deck 19.   The buffet is closed for just yacht club guests, and you require a reservation.  Food there was shockingly very good, though not the healthiest of fare.   The desserts, especially the warm chocolate chip cookie, were insanely good.  One of the biggies is the ability to use your card to have the elevator come privately for you(ones used exclusively by you).   There are many others honestly.   Yacht Club was as advertised to me.

Biggest Positives:  Ship is BEAUTIFUL(except for the casino).   Really much nicer than other main stream cruise lines.   Most servers have a smile.  The chocolate shop and the gelato in particular was great.   Panorama Lounge, although a rip off of 270 on Royal, was a great room with great shows.  Great use of elevators where you push a button for your floor and they tell you which elevator to go to.   Elevators much more efficient.  Our butler, Sandor, was fantastic.  Shows were really better than expected, and some of the best on mainstream lines.  The speak easy room was a HUGE hit, and I can't recommend it enough.  Won't spoil all the details here.  The other big positives were all a part of the yacht club as itemized above.

Biggest Negatives:  MASSIVE crowds sometimes on the ship.  Not in Yacht Club but main part of ship.  It was shocking though you learned what times to stay away.  Inconsistency of food and service.  The first night 7 people in our party said they had the worst dinner in the yacht club restaurant they've ever had on a cruise ship.  Most nights it was very good.   Just very inconsistent, sometimes the same dish from one day to the next.   Service also suffered often, especially when busy.   Usually, it was good.  But sometimes they just forget anything asked for and took a long a time to serve.   The third big one was the lack of trivias/game shows and what they had, was terribly overcrowded to the point you couldn't get in.   They need a large room for these activites---and they have the rooms on the ship already in existence.    The ship also had some funky designs that you never got fully used to.  Teppanyaki was the only specialty we went to as we usually love it, it was good, but better on both Royal and Norwegian.

I was in Room 18001, which is one of the Owner Suites.  Great room.   Comfortable bed, plenty of storage, walk in closet, and our butler Sandor deserves medals he was that good.   Negatives were shower was shockingly small and tight(smaller and tighter than a regular yacht club deluxe suite), and the 2/3 of the balcony was in easy viewing distance from the outside area of the Top Sail Lounge, which was not great.

Due to weather we had to miss our last stop in Malta, but they rescheduled us to Palermo immediately.   Very good communication and well handled.

So overall, nice itinerary, beautiful ship, but if you are at all crowd adverse you won't be happy if not in yacht club and somethings to get used to as a european line vs america.

Thanks very much for your review and it sounds like on balance you had a good time. We are sailing her in November so good to get an up to date experience. We will be in 18006 so may have Sandor as well?

I am particularly intrigued by the ' La Brasserie ' concept and thought the menu looked great. Although I understand it was introduced to alleviate some of the service issues in the main restaurant.

How did you find the YC areas in terms of crowding - e.g. the sundeck/pool/hot tub (is there just one?)

Also are drinks in the Speakeasy included in the Premium Plus package? No big deal and I'd still like to go if we are lucky enough to get the invite but I have seen mixed reports on whether it is included for the PP package that comes with YC.

Hi, thank you for posting this info. Please can you post some pictures of the room you were in and the balcony. If possible I’d like to see where it’s overlooked by the lounge ?

the other thing I’m looking for info on is the ages of the kids clubs and if the kids 10 plus can go into the around the kids club at night ? If anyone is able to advise I’d be very grateful as I can’t find this info anywhere.

La Brasserie was excellent, but if you've seen the menu it's a lot of fried and rich food but I was surprised how it was.  The Maitre D' there, I forget her name, is excellent as was the wait staff.

On non sea days, no crowding of course on the sun deck.  On the one sea day we had, it was packed. Not like the main pool area, but pretty full with one pool and one hot tub.   The top sail lounge was never crowded and the restaurant was packed around 8 30 at night, and in the morning from 8 am to 9 am.   Service suffered at these times, you could get seated.

The drinks in the speak easy are not included, they make that very clear.  But very worthwhile and again want to leave some things a secret lol.    For Speak easy tickets, if you are in the yacht club, just go to the concierge and they will help you get tickets right away.  If you wait for an "invitation" you won't get one.

Sorry that my kids are all 21+ so can't help with anything related to the kids club, though I will tell you kids seemed to be having a fantastic time on board and there was a ton for them to do.  I'll leave for someone else to advise.  I did not take pics of my room, I should have, but honestly didn't want to remember the people sitting outside seeing most of our veranda and the small shower was also not a memory I wanted to keep.  Prefer to focus on the spaciousness of the room(we had all 16 in the living/dining area without an issue).

I hope you do have our butler, but I know he is moving to another MSC ship shortly but I don't know exactly when.

Enjoy your cruises!   Any other questions I'd be happy to try to answer

I'm booked on World America. I narrowed my choices to the Owner's Suite (2 configurations), Royal Suite (2 configurations), and the Duplex Suite. I wasn't happy about any of the balconies (RS was the least desirable).

Looking at this photo.....

MSC22013788.jpg

...it's easier to visualize how the forward part to the Duplex and Owner's Suite balcony can be seen from above. It's not the end of the world but it isn't great. If choosing between a mostly enclosed balcony or an exposed balcony, I'll take the one that is more " open ".  The RS balcony is a real downer. If World America is different, I might change. I don't sail it until 2025.  😩

Is this pic Europa ? Looking at the picture the top of the 2 owners suites 18001 has a smaller balcony ? I thought 18001 was supposed to have the bigger balcony ?

I believe that the stagger gives the deck 18 balcony more depth. Since the deck plans were revealed, I've also believed that deck 18 was the more desirable deck for both the RS and the OS.

Até

Here is a slightly different look at those World Europa forward cabins. We will be in RS 18003 at the end of October, 2023.

18001 balcony looks smaller than 16002 but it says the opposite on the website. Who knows.

Thanks for the review! I’ve been debating on if I want to sail World America, but it seems like crowds are an issue, and the YC design may not be as appealing, if it takes after its sister.

Hi, please may I ask if you are able to post pictures of 18001 inside and outside ? I can’t seem to find any videos of it and no pics of the balcony. Also does it have the round lounge chair ?

Thank you for the review!  Wanted to ask what you felt was wrong with the casino as it's a place where we tend to spend a lot of time in the evening.  Also, my experience with YC has been the same as yours regarding the preboarding questionnaire...none of our requests were met ahead of time but were taken care of right away once on board.  Not really sure why they bother with the preboarding questions.  As for the show reservations, it is my understanding that YC guests don't need them.

Did you happen to get to the thermal suite?  If so, what are your thoughts?

Thanks again!

Even if the butler never gets the memo, GP, the preboarding question are useful for Yacht Club's inventory preparation as a whole, from cruise to cruise.

Thanks for your review!!  I see there are 20+ more YC cabins than the last 2  Seaside class ships...likely contributing to the YC restaurant crowding and opening of new dining alternative    La Brasserie. Hadn't payed much attention to Europa's design and see it has a Oasis style flair (Opening in Stern area)!?

I think that the waterfall they had was too loud. It was heared very loud also in rooms which should be quiet.

I'm sorry that I didn't take pictures of the cabin .   There is a round lounge chair on the balcony

Having been on many Royal ships, World Europa was built by the same company that builds Royal's ships and there are many parts of the ships that clearly were taken right from Royal's ships.   The back of the ship is 100% like the Oasis ships, except it doesn't have anything in the rear of the ship and the "boardwalk" they have on Royal is replaced with a walkway with the Coffee Emporium, some restaurants, a bar, shops and Sweet Sensations off of it(ice cream, yogurt, and waffles/crepes).   They also have a light show there every night.   The inside of the ship their Panorama Lounge is identical to 270 on the Quantum Ships.    There were other similarities, and some differences.   La Brasserie was great, we are all still talking about it, but not necessarily the healthiest food.  Some of the desserts were amazing.

The ship is beautiful.  IMHO it's the nicest looking ship of all of the main stream cruise lines, which is something MSC is apparently known for.     The casino isn't as pretty as the rest of the areas, again IMHO.   Also, it's not as busy, no poker except on seadays(with the exception of the texas hold em table game which I like, but others in my party did not).  So not as pretty of an area, and not as much action going on.

I just walked through the Thermal Suite to see it on the first day.   Some others did spend time one day and they felt it was a little overcrowded, smaller space, but they enjoyed it.   Aesthetically, it's very nice though as I think someone else said here the waterfall is a little overpowering.

Thank you for the additional information. I agree shes a beautiful ship… i recently sailed in Odyssey so i can visualize their Panorama lounge.  Hopefully we will have the chance to cruise this ship or her sisters out of FL in future!

PS You have to make a reservation to use the Thermal Spa area even if  you're in the yacht club.  They try to monitor the number of people there for overcrowding reasons which is very smart

53 minutes ago, Cruiseswithfamilyornot said: PS You have to make a reservation to use the Thermal Spa area even if  you're in the yacht club.  They try to monitor the number of people there for overcrowding reasons which is very smart

This is true, however, when we were on Seaside we simply went to the YC concierge when we were ready to go to the thermal suite and they called down and told them we were coming...so, not really so much as a reservation as a heads-up, we're on our way.  At least in our experience...and if it had been any other way, I would have been quite annoyed as the last thing I want to do is stick to a reservation schedule while on vacation.

I was not on another MSC ship, but I can tell you @Georgia_Peaches  that you did need to have the concierge call down for a reservation for you.  They would handle that for you, but you did need a reservation.  Unless it was a day when many were in a port(or so they told my companions), you weren't able to just walk down unfortunately.  I did hear another passenger complain that's not how it was on another MSC ship.  So I guess it's just a function of the timing as if the spa is busy they won't just let you in.   One in my party found that out the hard way unfortunately.

5 minutes ago, Georgia_Peaches said: "I would have been quite annoyed as the last thing I want to do is stick to a reservation schedule while on vacation."

I'm afraid I plan a somewhat tight schedule when we're in Yacht Club. We have to, really, as a courtesy to the staff. We request things that are out of the ordinary and we want to make sure we're not doing so at an inopportune time. For example, we have a much more involved style of dining which keeps our server team and the sommelier quite occupied. Accordingly, we stick to the whatever we are told is the best arrival time from the staff's perspective.

The future of cruising – we step onboard new ship MSC World Europa

MSC Cruises’ newest venture comes in the form of mega-ship MSC World Europa – the ship offers you the chance to sail sustainably, powered by LNG, and hits the waters in December 2022 with a four-night sailing from Doha to Dubai. Lucy Abbott steps onboard for a first look at the ship.

What’s eco-friendly, future-ready and fun for everyone? That’s right, MSC World Europa .

Built with the future in mind, the newest ship in MSC Cruises ’ fleet is not only the first of the World Class series, but she also features state-of-the-art technology onboard, purely for your cruising pleasure. From the impressive entertainment venue, Luna Park Area, to the Kinetic Dome – it certainly impresses.

Getting down to the statistics, MSC World Europa features a 104-metre-long promenade, 19 different cabin categories with seven new designs, 13 dining venues, seven swimming pools, and, last but certainly not least, a record-breaking 11-deck high stainless-steel slide named The Venom Drop.

The sheer scale and size of the ship is something that can only be admired when you step onboard for the first time, it truly is an impressive feat. Yet, with the line stating that this ship is ‘the future of cruising’, we wouldn’t expect anything less.

In fact, every aspect onboard has been made more environmentally friendly, even to the extent of making all lightbulbs possible LED as well as making the exterior paint of the ship anti fouling which prevents ships from barnacles and algae, speeding up the ship and therefore reducing fuel consumption.

A foodies paradise

It’s time to get serious about food – MSC World Europa brings guests on an immersive food journey that will knock your bog-standard pie and chips out of the water.

13 dining venues and six speciality restaurants include a classic American-style steakhouse Butcher’s Cut, sushi bar and Latin American street food-inspired Hola! Tacos & Cantina. The only problem you may encounter is where to start.

One thing is clear, MSC Cruises pride itself on attention to detail, in fact, MSC World Europa will have its own micro-greens and vegetables which have been grown onboard.

Now for the most important thing onboard – bars and lounges. Where else would you find a bar to suit any mood?

For a casual pint opt for the Masters of the Sea Pub for a refreshing glass of craft beer (expect the best as the ship has its own microbrewery onboard), or, for a crafted experience visit Elixir – Mixology Bar and sip on an elaborate cocktail or opt for one (or two or three) of the 30 varieties of gin onboard.

Those who aren’t big drinkers need not panic, there is a juice bar which makes fresh juices, an authentic Emporium coffee bar with a wide variety of coffee beans as well as a South Asian-style tea room that boats 25 different loose teas.

It’s safe to say that this is a ship that defines the future of the cruise industry – the perfect fusion of technology, sustainability and revolutionary onboard experiences.

I tried a ship-within-a-ship cruise experience and it was worth it for the endless perks—here’s why

The MSC Yacht Club affords travelers a totally different cruising experience, but you’ll have to splurge.

Erica Lamberg

I heard tales of luxury from people about the ritzy MSC Yacht Club , the ship-within-a-ship concept where discerning passengers enjoy their own area of the cruise ship that includes a dedicated restaurant, private lounge, separate pool and sundeck as well as private butlers and concierges to take of any whim while cruising. The elevated Yacht Club boasts priority everything while sailing MSC.

I sailed on a four-night cruise on the new MSC Seashore, a glitzy ship with Italian flair intermingled with references to New York City at every turn. Although the ship was well-appointed and had amazing dining, drinking and entertainment venues, and a bountiful Top Sail main buffet, thousands of passengers made the ship feel crowded at times, elevators were slow, and as I strolled through the general pools, they were boisterous and crowded.

RECOMMENDED: 10 things about cruising on an adults-only ship that might surprise you

Switch gears to MSC Seashore’s Yacht Club, passkey-protected for lucky guests, and is a 180 from the ship’s general spaces. Once you scan your handy Yacht Club wrist badge, or your room key, you’re instantly given entrance to a breathtaking retreat of 131 staterooms and suites. All this luxury does come at a price. Cruise fares will vary based on destination, time of year, and cabin category, but generally speaking you can expect to pay double for the Yacht Club. And from my experience, it’s worth it. Read more about why you should splurge.

You’re fast-tracked through everything

The Yacht Club’s exclusivity and impeccable service standard started from the moment I got dropped off at the Port Canaveral cruise terminal. There were hundreds of people waiting to board at 1pm on embarkation day. I saw in the distance a canopy that said MSC Yacht Club. My husband and I wheeled our carry-on luggage to the representative under the canopy. I gave her my name and within two seconds, she gave me a sticker to wear and up we ascended on the escalator to check in. Just five minutes later, I was directed to the dedicated check-in area for Yacht Club guests. To my right, I saw about 1,000 people serpentine through ropes to do general check-in. I felt a sense of relief; who wants to wait in that line? Five minutes later, a butler from the Yacht Club insisted on wheeling my luggage to board the ship and I was in my room in a total on 12 minutes from the time I stepped foot out of the car to my stateroom in the Yacht Club.

Relaxing and streamlined

In addition, Yacht Club guests have the freedom to get off the ship first for excursions. Your butler will happily escort you off the ship with a smile. Guests also can disembark on the last morning first, which is a big convenience. Your butler walks you right to the place you disembark, bypassing crowds and hassles. Port Canaveral is about an hour away from Orlando International Airport, and we took a 10 am flight home. We didn’t have to linger around until the afternoon for our flight home.

Another perk is that there’s a special seating area in the theater for shows. All the shows were excellent during my voyage. All other ship passengers have to make reservations in advance for shows but that’s not the case for the privileged Yacht Club passengers. As long as you arrive about 10 minutes before any show you choose, a crew member from the Club will allow you entry into a special roped-off section. Again, no rushing through dinner—you have the flexibility to plan your evenings your way.

MSC Seashore

Your Yacht Club package is packed with remarkable value

The price tag may sound daunting, but there’s lots of value there. All Yacht Club cabins and suites include a premium drink package that covers beverages up to $15. You can use this perk both in the Yacht Club and throughout the ship. In addition, your package includes a two-device Wi-Fi package, which worked well during my sailing. Finally, you get access to the thermal spa suite, which is a place to indulge after a day in port or a sea day. Commonly, there’s a taboo regarding mini-bars, but not in the Yacht Club. It’s stocked each day with the beverages you want; just tell your butler and consider it done.

You get perks ashore too

If your sailing includes a call to Ocean Cay, MSC’s private island, Yacht Club guests get an elevated experience there too. Yacht Club guests enjoy a private area, and a dedicated restaurant called the Ocean House. While other ship guests were hosted to a buffet of predictable fare, I enjoyed a lobster roll, and my husband chose carne asada. In my opinion, one thing that could be improved was the tram service to the Yacht Club’s private area. We were told the last tram back was 3:30pm if we didn’t want to trek a 15-minute walk in the heat. Since we were docked in Ocean Cay for the evening and weren’t sailing, I was a bit dismayed by this logistical quirk. I felt like I was keeping an eye on my phone to make sure I didn’t miss the last tram.

You have private areas with curated food and drink and outdoor spaces

Within the Yacht Club complex, there’s the Yacht Club Restaurant, Top Sail Lounge and the One Pool Buffet, which are all exclusive to Yacht Club guests. Obviously, the food and service are steps above other dining venues of the ship, I can vouch for that. Although the food is delicious, if you don’t want to pay extra to dine at the specialty restaurants or fuss in the main buffet, eating three meals a day in the Yacht Club restaurant can get a bit monotonous. The breakfast is the same daily, and lunch and dinner offer a menu with daily specials plus a few standby selections like a hamburger or pasta each day. Although the Yacht Club Restaurant concept is desirable, I would strongly suggest dining in other venues on board, especially for dinner. I thoroughly enjoyed specialty dining in Ocean Cay Restaurant, Butcher’s Cut, and Kaito Teppanyaki. I also want to mention that late afternoon high tea is offered daily at the Yacht Club Restaurant. It was one of the nicest I have experienced at sea.

MSC Seashore

Also available exclusively to Yacht Club passengers is the Top Sail Lounge, which offers panoramic water views and has chef-curated selections from morning through late night. We enjoyed popping into the lounge at all hours to try finger foods and sweets. The One Pool Buffet offers a more casual option for breakfast and lunch by the pool. The buffet has grilled fish, sandwiches and lots of delicious options if you want to dine outside.

There’s also an exclusive area with a private pool and two whirlpools for Yacht Club guests only. The sun deck loungers are very comfortable and I never had to worry about finding a lounger, there are ample. One issue I had was that there was almost no shade on the sun deck; there were shaded day beds for Royal Suite and Owners Suite guests, but beyond those, I couldn’t find any shade, which was disappointing.

You can justify the price at the end of your cruise

Overall, the best way to explain my enthusiasm for my MSC Yacht Club experience is this: it’s better to book an interior stateroom in the Yacht Club than a luxe cabin outside the Yacht Club. It’s worth the splurge and you return home feeling truly pampered and it’s money well-spent. And I make this prediction: Once you try a ship-within-a-ship concept like the MSC Yacht Club, you won’t want cruise any other way. Bon Voyage!

Been there, done that? Think again, my friend.

Review: MSC World Europa

msc yacht club world europa reviews

What is the line?  MSC

Name of ship?  MSC World Europa

Passenger occupancy?  6,762

Itinerary?  Doha, Qatar

Start out with the big picture—what is this cruise line known for?

European cruise line MSC might not yet have the brand recognition of some of its U.S.-based competitors—at least to the North American audience—but its large ships bring all the at-sea fun you’d come to expect from the big names. Where MSC stands apart is its international following. Onboard, it’s not uncommon to hear passengers speaking numerous languages, as they hail from all over the world.

Tell us about the ship in general

MSC World Europa, which launched in December 2022, is the cruise line’s largest ship to date, carrying nearly 7,000 passengers at maximum capacity. And it has plenty of amenities for all, from 33 bars and restaurants to a Formula 1 simulator to the world’s tallest dry slide at sea. So, yes, this ship very much feels like a floating city—but it marks a new era in MSC’s quest to achieve zero emissions.  MSC World Europa is the first ship in the fleet to be powered by liquified natural gas (LNG), an alternative fuel that has fewer carbon emissions than other fossil fuels. (It does, however, have high methane emissions.) But what’s more,  MSC World Europa is a testing ground for a new type of electrochemical fuel cell that’s 25 to 30 percent more efficient than combustion engines. If the trial succeeds, this low-emission cell could be used to power the ship’s electrical and heating systems. The ship is also notable for its futuristic design inside and out, from the LED “sky screens” on the ceiling of the main indoor promenade to a Y-shaped stern that creates an open-air promenade and more space for exterior cabins.

Who is onboard?

MSC is a family-friendly cruise line that caters to international guests—Europeans, primarily, but there’s a growing North American clientele, too. You might find couples and groups of friends onboard, too, as there are plenty of adult activities, like an onboard brewery.

Describe the cabins

There are 19 cabin types on  MSC World Europa . I stayed in a Deluxe Balcony Aurea cabin, a mid-tier room type that was on the smaller side, with a bed, sofa, and a balcony. The decor was minimal and a bit bland compared to the high-design public areas, with upholstery in shades of brown. I did, however, find the shower in the bathroom to be rather spacious. If I were to travel on the ship again, I’d book a cabin in the Yacht Club, MSC’s upscale ship-within-a-ship concept. Yacht Club guests reside in an exclusive area on the ship that includes a private pool deck, a restaurant, and a bar.

Tell us about the crew

There are more than 1,400 crew members onboard  MSC World Europa,  and while it's impossible to meet them all, I found service to be stellar across the board. Because the ship is so large, don’t expect extremely personalized service (except in the yacht club). But do expect friendly and knowledgeable staff all throughout the ship.

What food and drink options are available on board?

Dining is a highlight onboard MSC World Europa, which has a varied array of venues to cater to all palates. There are several buffets, including a 24-hour American-style fast-food spot for night owls, as well as three main dining rooms. But it’s the six specialty dining venues that deserve the accolades: a steakhouse, a cantina, a seafood grill, a teppanyaki grill, a sushi bar, and a farm-to-table eatery. As I was on a preview “sailing” for the ship’s naming ceremony—we remained docked in Doha, Qatar, for the duration of the trip—we didn’t have time to experience each restaurant in its entirety, but we did do an around-the-world tasting of bites, and I was impressed by each venue. I did have a full dinner at Chef’s Garden Kitchen, where onboard hydroponic gardens provide the microgreens for the Nordic-inspired menu, which was devised by chef Niklas Ekstedt, whose restaurant in Stockholm earned a Michelin star. My favorite dish here was dessert: a flavorful almond cake dusted with dehydrated mint sorbet.

I also found  MSC World Europa’s beverage scene to be rather impressive, catering to all palates just like the restaurants. Brewmaster Teo Musso uses seawater in the beers brewed onboard the ship and served in the British pub; the mixology bar has a remarkable resort-like outdoor seating area; and the gourmet coffee bar and South Asian–style tea house caters to those seeking an elegant caffeine fix. And that’s not to mention the other offerings like the gin bar, the Champagne bar, and the juice bar.

Is there a spa on board and is it worth visiting?

Yes, and it’s a must-visit. The thermal circuit onboard  MSC World Europa might just be the finest at sea, between its plunge pools, salt room, and snow room, among many other amenities. I also enjoyed my Balinese massage, and you can also book standard salon treatments, too.

Activities and entertainment

You won’t be bored on this ship. With standard amenities like pools, hot tubs (14 of them!), a casino, and an arcade, as well as more unique ones, like the aforementioned world’s tallest dry slide at sea and Formula 1 simulator, a water park, bumper cars, and a roller rink, there’s plenty to do onboard. There are also numerous shows in the various performance venues, including the  Luna Park Arena, the World Theatre, and the Panorama Lounge—in the latter, I watched a sultry Latin dance show.

How was the experience for families?

The Family Zone takes up a significant portion of deck 18, and it comprises sections for different age groups, ranging from babies to teens. This is also where you’ll find the Formula 1 simulator, as well as an entire room dedicated to LEGO.

Where did it sail and how were the excursions? Did anything stand out?

Though my experience on  MSC World Europa was limited to one port—Doha, Qatar—for a preview “sailing,” the ship is currently sailing itineraries in the Middle East, calling at ports like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Dammam, Saudi Arabia. I did take one excursion: a short half-day tour of Doha. It was a pretty typical cruise excursion that combined a bus ride with brief walking tours of tourist highlights.

Finally, give a sentence or two on why the cruise is worth booking.

Fans of mega-ships won’t want to miss this over-the-top experience.

Our Surprising Experience Aboard the MSC World Europa | Cruise Review

We just got off a Mediterranean cruise on the MSC World Europa, and I’m excited to share our thoughts about our trip. This was our first experience with the MSC cruise line and, spoiler alert: We absolutely loved it.

Keep reading for more details about the MSC World Europa itinerary we went on, what we did at each port stop, and even some of the nitty-gritty things that we didn’t like (there weren’t that many).

msc yacht club world europa reviews

This cruise was not sponsored in any way. We paid out of our own pocket, and everything mentioned below is our own opinion.

msc yacht club world europa reviews

Our Overall Thoughts About the MSC World Europa

msc yacht club world europa reviews

Overall, we genuinely enjoyed this cruise, which honestly surprised us. I’ve always assumed (and heard) that MSC was a few tiers down on the hierarchy of cruise ships, especially after cruising with Disney and Royal Caribbean , but everything we experienced proved that theory was incorrect.

The staff went out of their way to accommodate us, and speaking of accommodation, we loved our room. When we booked, the only room available for the five of us was an “Aurea” Premium Suite, and it was PERFECT. I’ll share more about it below, but if you have the opportunity to book an Aurea Experience room , DO IT.

It comes with extra benefits like free spa access (with reservation; we always got in when we wanted to go), a free bottle of prosecco, a smaller exclusive dining room, discounts on things on board, and more.

I didn’t have to cook for a week and they had pizza, hot dogs, and burgers any time you wanted it!; the kids loved the kid’s club and they even stayed on during a couple of port days (yes, it was open !!); the entertainment did its job and wowed us, the Mediterranean port stops were phenomenal, the spa onboard was top-notch, and the ship was fun for everyone!

The ship, y’all, was HUGE. It was built in 2022 and reminded us of pictures we’ve seen of the new Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas (but at more than half the price!). Apparently, it was at capacity (6,500+ passengers), but I promise it didn’t feel that way. There were a few times we’d have to wait a little while for an elevator, but that was to be expected. In most parts of the ship, it felt like everything was spread out. We found a place to sit almost every place we went.

We will 100% consider sailing with MSC again.

When We Sailed on the MSC World Europa

msc yacht club world europa reviews

The five of us (kids ages 10, 9, and 6) sailed during Germany’s Carnivale break in the middle of February. We desperately needed some sunshine after a long wet and windy winter, and the itinerary looked too fantastic to pass up.

We booked this slightly last minute (in January) on a whim one night. The price was unbelievable (under $5,000 for five of us on a 7-night Mediterranean cruise), and the port stops checked off several places we wanted to visit.

I was slightly nervous about the weather in February and even leading up to our cruise it was looking like we might have wet weather, but things changed and we had great weather.

I’d imagine it would be very hot in the summer, though.

There were multiple (heated) pools, including a great indoor pool area with massive hot tubs. There’s also a splash pad for little kids and slides on the top deck for older kids. Even though two of them couldn’t ride the water slides, they still had fun at the pools.

The Not-So Fantastic Things

msc yacht club world europa reviews

If we had to be nit-picky there were a few things we didn’t like. And seriously, this is us just being extra picky.

The dining room food was just okay.

There were more paid-for, specialty options on this ship than we realized, and MSC seems to cater to them. (Again, we booked this last minute so we didn’t have much time to research that part.) The dining room food just tasted like they were preparing it for thousands of people…so kind of bland and lukewarm, and it took a little while for dishes to come out.

We ate at the buffet most often because the turnaround for food was faster and we could all get a variety of whatever we wanted. It was the same food on the dining room menus (plus more!) at the buffets.

There Are a Lot of Specialty Places on Board .

I think if we planned for this it wouldn’t be in the negative column, but since we didn’t know/realize, we didn’t prepare for it. The specialty restaurants looked fantastic and at around 30 euros a meal (for adults), they weren’t that expensive. You had to pay extra for the fun, retro ice cream place and the coffee shop on board, too. If/when we sail with MSC again we’ll probably ask grandparents for on-board credit for the kids/us for a meal out or some fun treats.

*For what it’s worth we did treat ourselves to a couple of “fancy” meals and some ice cream. All I’m saying is that we just weren’t prepared for how many extra-paid options there were.

msc yacht club world europa reviews

The height/age requirements for the slides.

There are several water slides on this ship, but you have to be at least 130 cm (my 9-year-old daughter was, like, 125cm and they wouldn’t let her slide – pun intended). For the “Venom,” the indoor dry slide you had to be 120 cm AND 8 or 9 years old. (Sorry, I don’t remember the specifics; my son (127cm is 6 and he was not allowed to ride it).

The Kid’s Club Entry/Exit Took FOREVER.

I’ll talk about the kid’s club more below because we loved it. But getting the kids in there and out of there TOOK FOREVER. Plain and simple: they need a better system set up, so plan extra time to drop off and pick up your kids.

There was also a cultural difference that we noticed. We’re used to standing and queuing in lines, but a lot of Europeans don’t stand in lines; they’ll just walk up to the front and “cut” in line. It’s a hard concept to get past for us, so it was frustrating when it happened (and it happened often until we finally just sucked it up and made sure we stayed in the very front when it was our turn.)

You can’t bring alcohol on board.

Some (most?) cruise liners will let you bring at least one bottle of wine with you, but—at the time we boarded—you couldn’t bring any on. We had a drink package (included in the price when we booked), so it was fine, but I did find that interesting.

I think that’s about it, and those things aren’t in any way a dealbreaker. When I say we liked sailing on the MSC World Europa, I mean it!

Our Port Stops on the MSC World Europa

msc yacht club world europa reviews

The Mediterranean itinerary for the MSC World Europa is what sold us on this cruise. And here’s the cool thing about MSC: You can embark (begin your cruise) at any of the ports.

This ship basically does a loop on repeat (I think the itinerary changes a little bit in April). So if beginning/ending in one port is better than another, check into those dates.

For us, we wanted to start and end in Rome because we wanted a little more time in the city. Our cruise departed on a Monday evening (we had to be there by 2 pm), and we arrived in Rome the Saturday before, giving us all day Sunday and Monday morning to explore.

Except for a few places, we didn’t book things ahead of time. We also almost always opted to not do excursions with the cruise. They’re often way more expensive and we don’t like to just sit on a bus the whole time. However, MSC had a bike tour in almost every port city, and those looked great.

Here’s a very quick look at what we did in each Mediterranean MSC World Europa port:

Rome, Italy

msc yacht club world europa reviews

On Sunday (the day before we embarked) we went on a Golf Car Tour of Rome . I highly recommend this tour, especially if you are short on time. It took us all over the city.

After the city tour, we just walked around and went back to the Forum and Colosseum area . It was a very low-key and enjoyable day.

On Monday we went to Vatican City. I bought entry tickets for the museum and Sistine Chapel the day we booked our cruise (absolutely do this because it will sell out!!). We chose not to do a guided tour so we could go at our own pace, but we did get the kid audio guides once we got inside.

After checking out the Vatican we walked over to see St. Paul’s Cathedral, but the line snaked around so much we just called it a day and decided to have lunch at the most delicious spot near where we stored our luggage.

We stored our luggage at a place right around the corner from the entrance to the museum before our tour, and then we took a taxi from there to the cruise port in Civitavecchia.

Palermo, Sicily

msc yacht club world europa reviews

Our two younger kids stayed on the ship that day and our oldest went out with us. We’ve been to Sicily before , but on the other side of the island, so we were excited to see Palermo. I booked a Street Food Tour , so we ate our way around the city.

I highly recommend it if you like getting a literal taste of a place combined with some great historical info.

Valletta, Malta

msc yacht club world europa reviews

This port stop on the MSC World Europe was a new country for all of us, so all the kids got off the ship and explored with us. We planned to just walk around, but then I found this scavenger hunt that was inexpensive, fun, and would take us all around Valletta.

If you want an easy day and want to see the city, I highly recommend it.

Barcelona, Spain

msc yacht club world europa reviews

We LOVE Spain so we were thrilled to be back in the country.

Along with booking Vatican tickets, I also booked these tickets as soon as we booked the cruise because I heard they sell out fast. We took a taxi from the port to Park Güell and walked around for about an hour. (I’m going to write a longer post on this place; it was fun to see, but we didn’t enjoy it very much for various reasons. I think if we booked this ticket that included a guide we would have liked it more.)

We took another cab to Sagrada Familia — if you go to Barcelona you have to go inside the church. It’s magnificent. We did not do a guided tour but did use the audio guide on the Sagrada app.

My husband and girls went up the Nativity tower (but he said he might not recommend it. “Usually you get the high-altitude, vista panorama. But this one was just like you’re on a scaffolding in between the towers, so the view is limited. You can see the church a little more up close, but that’s the only benefit.”)

Marseille, France

msc yacht club world europa reviews

All three kids stayed on the MSC World Europa this time, and my husband and I went off to explore Marseille.

We didn’t plan any excursions here; we just walked around and enjoyed the city. While we wish we took a taxi into Marseille, there is a free city bus that will take you into town. (We just had to wait a while for it; get off the ship and follow the green line on the ground until you get to the bus stop.) We took a taxi back when our day was over.

The kids stayed in the kid’s club again for this port stop, so we had another day date! It was another port stop that we planned on just walking around and seeing the sights, but then we found a Rickshaw Tour .

As you walk out and go down the escalators there’s a little booth with someone selling tours and that’s where we bought it. (You can also book ahead of time; recommended if you’re going during peak travel time.)

There was a 1 or 2 hour option; we picked the one-hour tour and I’m so happy we did it! The guide was great and gave us insight into the city from a local’s perspective, plus it went to places without tourists. The Rickshaw tour will bring you back to the ship, but we asked him to drop us off at the cathedral. The walk back was easy.

Our Room on the MSC World Europa

msc yacht club world europa reviews

We stayed in an Aurea Premium Suite, room number 12166, which fit all five of us with room to spare. We never felt cramped; in fact, it always felt like there was a decent amount of space if you’ve ever cruised before then you know that cruise rooms can feel like a shoebox! Not so with this room.

Here’s a walk-through video of our MSC World Europa Aurea room

There were bunk beds for the kids right when you walked in, and a pull-out double bed from the couch. We asked our steward not to turn it back into a couch every day (no need for all that extra work), and there was still enough room.

Let’s be honest, you’re not hanging out in your room that much, so you just need enough space to get ready in the morning and throw all your stuff when you get back.

There was plenty of room to store all of our things, and of course, I brought extra helpers like heavy-duty magnet hooks and our other favorite cruise essentials.

Having a balcony was a must for us, and this one was pretty large. It was great to see each city as we rolled into town every morning. I would’ve liked to have a table outside, but a place to prop my feet up was nice, too.

The Kid’s Club on the MSC World Europa

msc yacht club world europa reviews

Truth be told…we (the parents) didn’t go into the kid’s club to see the space. We could have (they have open house times), but we always just let them go in on their own.

They were all in the Junior Club. (Logan was supposed to be in the “Mini Club,” but they graciously let him be in the one that his sisters were in.)

Here’s what my kids said about the kid’s club when I just asked them for their thoughts on it.

It was extremely fun. there’s a lego room and in the lego room there buckets of legos to play. You can just build anything you want, but then you need to destroy it before you leave. -Logan (6 years old)
There’s a lego room, a movie room where you play games and watch movies, and a home room where we wait until there’s an activity. They take you to lunch and dinner at the buffet. I liked it because there were games and drawing and anyone could play anything. Every night was also a different theme (we didn’t know about this), but you could bring costumes and dress up. If you didn’t have costume they could paint your face! Julia (10 years old)
I liked the kid’s club because every night after dinner there was a dance party with Do-Re-Me (the MSC mascot), and it was just awesome. I liked all the different people and I met four new friends. Going to dinner and lunch with them was fun and yummy. I liked watching movies in the movie room even if they were sometimes in another language. There was also a Master Chef at Sea competition and I won! You get to also go to the sportsplex every day to play inside a gym. And the leaders were really nice. There were lots of activities and I liked getting my face painted every night! There’s also a craft every day and the leaders would dress up, too! Madilyn (9 years old; she turned 9 on the ship!)

The Shows on the MSC World Europa

msc yacht club world europa reviews

If you go into this not expecting a Broadway or West End performance , you’ll have a great time. There are multiple shows every evening and they have that “wow” factor. Everything we saw was entertaining with talented artists doing everything from aerobatics and fun dancing and singing to illusionists and themed nights. Sometimes the kids went with us and other times we enjoyed the shows alone.

You do have to reserve your spot ahead of time with their app, but it was pretty easy and we were able to get into almost every show we wanted to see. Our favorite lounge was the Panorama Lounge since you have a table to set your drink down.

Book Your MSC Cruise

I’m totally ready to book another MSC cruise, although I’ve gotta admit that it will have to be on one of their newer ships. This one impressed us so much that I’d be worried about how much we’d like one of their older ships. But the itineraries up to Northern Europe look so great.

If you’re interested in booking a cruise, I highly encourage you to get in touch with my travel advisor, Jennifer, at Endless Routes Travel ; she can help you every step of the way.
