The redeveloped IYCA in Port Vauban, Antibes has officially been inaugurated

International Yacht Club d'Antibes opens its doors in Port Vauban

The International Yacht Club d'Antibes (IYCA) was officially opened in Port Vauban last week following a €135 million development project that included the renovation of the yacht club and its superyacht dock, Quai Camille Rayon, which can accommodate yachts up to 150 metres in length.

Sitting in one of the Mediterranean's highest-profile superyacht marinas, the new yacht club boasts the design talents of award-winning architect Philippe Prost and a wealth of upgrades intended to elevate the IYCA as an international yachting destination. The official opening ceremony was attended by key figures from the yachting industry, IYCA president Jean Pierre Savarino and regional mayor of Antibes Jean Leonetti.

The International Yacht Club d’Antibes Officially Opens in Port Vauban

By Emily Dawkins

Last week welcomed the official inauguration of the International Yacht Club d’Antibes (IYCA) in Port Vauban, Antibes. Alongside the launch of the brand-new yacht club, which offers an array of exceptional facilities for both owners and crew, the evening also officially opened the brand-new Camille Rayon Quay which offers berthing for yachts up to 110 metres in length.

The International Yacht Club d’Antibes officially opened its doors last week, welcoming those from the local and international yachting industry to discover the array of brand-new developments that now lie at the heart of the Mediterranean’s most prestigious cruising grounds.

French architect Philippe Prost, President of Vauban 21and CCI NCA Jean-Pierre Savarino, and Mayor of Antibes Juan-les-Pins Jean Leonetti, opened the all-new IYCA, with support from sponsors Palumbo Superyachts Refit, wealth management firm, Banque Internationale à Luxembourg (BIL), Blade helicopters and yacht insurance company, Pantaenius.

‘Our goal is to be, and to become again, the capital of the yachting industry,’ commented Olivia Gordon Bourcart, Sales and Marketing Director of the IYCA, ‘I think the inauguration tonight is very important because it will really place the IYCA and the quay in the centre of demand. Our goal is to regain this appreciation of Port Vauban as the capital of the yachting industry, as well as to be a convivial place.’

Arguably the most attractive and conveniently located marina in the world for superyachts over 80m, the IYCA’s recent developments have certainly caused a buzz amongst the Côte d’Azur.

As part of a €135 million development project to renovate the popular yacht club and dedicated superyacht berthing quay, the iconic Port Vauban has been transformed into a modern and versatile haven for superyacht owners and crew alike.

Behind this spectacular transformation? Vauban 21. Comprised of partners from the Antibes Chamber of Commerce and professionals from the industry, Vauban 21 began the initiative in 2017 with the goal of bringing Port Vauban to a new level of prestige and renewing its title as a superyacht hub.

Undoubtedly, the recent launch and inauguration of the new yacht club and quay is a monumental step in defining Antibes as an unparalleled yachting hotspot.

Penned by esteemed French architect Philippe Prost, who took inspiration for the club’s design from the exterior of explorer yachts, the new IYCA brings together unrivalled luxury, impeccable services and facilities, and an opulent social scene. Members and customers will find lounge bars, panoramic open terraces and private meeting rooms alongside a dedicated crew centre with a lounge, gym and training studio. A notable highlight of the new yacht club is the private helipad which allows easy access to the Port from the nearby international airport of Nice.

Also premiered on the inauguration evening was the new Camille Rayon Quay. Now incomparable for berthing in the Mediterranean, the quay offers only 20 exclusive berths for superyachts over 80m, with its largest berth capable of handling a yacht of 150 metres. Alongside easily accessible services, the berths offer owners and guests premium security and privacy.

Leading yacht brokerage houses Burgess and Edmiston have partnered as joint central agents of these berths, offering exclusive lease opportunities for owners of yachts from 85 to 110 metres. Available in 10,15 and 20-year leases with payment every five years, owners now have the unique chance to secure a position in one of the most prestigious locations in yachting.

Alongside the new yacht club and Camille Rayon Quay, a significant amount of work to modernise the port have been completed underground including new water, electrical and pump supplies.

Despite the inauguration of the new yacht club and Camille Rayon Quay, there is surprisingly more to come for the historic Antibes marina, with further developments continuing over the coming year.

The IYCA (International Yacht Club of Antibes) is located to the west of Port Vauban in Antibes, on the French Riviera.

Ideally located in the heart of the old town, visitors are spoilt for choice with the range of restaurants and bars and quaint streets full of cafes and boutiques.

The IYCA was created in 1986 specifically to accommodate larger superyachts of 50m to 165m.There are a total 19 berths, with maximum LOA 165m/541ft, and maximum draft 7m. This is a full service facility with secure onsite parking, a 24/7 security guard at the entrance, video surveillance and a heliport.

As part of the Vauban 21 project set to put Antibes on the map as the premier destination on the Côte d'Azur, the IYCA will be receiving investment in the form of a new office and reception area, with helipad for 2 helicopters; a crew leisure centre with fitness and library facilities; storage boxes and an ISPS area. Marinas and moorings in Antibes

Discover the top Antibes moorings

Antibes is one of the biggest luxury yachting centres on earth, with a huge port that curves around the horseshoe-shaped bay between the medieval ramparts on one side and Fort Carre on the other.

Moorings & marinas

Antibes has been an important port since before the Middle Ages, when the Crusader ships stopped here on their way to the Holy Land, and, in the modern era, was the base of Louis XIV’s navy and was later bombed by the Germans due to its strategic importance during World War II.

Passing most of its life as a fishing port, Port Vauban of Antibes is today the largest yachting marina in Europe with 1700 berths ranging from 4.5m to 165m, and is logistically made up of two separate marinas, a professional fishing port and a shipyard.

There is also a small port at the base of the Cap d’Antibes called Port Salis, suited to small vessels, and the nearby ports of Juan les Pins, Port Crouton and Port Gallice, taking the total of Antibes-JLP berths to an enormous 2,800.

The IYCA (International Yacht Club of Antibes) Quay The privately-owned IYCA on Quai Camille Rayon , or ‘Millionaire’s Quay’, is probably the most famous of them all- for this is where the huge superyachts gather. On the IYCA, a 60-metre yacht s a minnow, dwarfed beside the palatial megayachts of Roman Abramovich, Paul Allen and the Saudi princes.

While there is a security guard posted at a boom gate on the IYCA to stop unauthorised vehicles, both tourists and visitors are welcome to walk along the IYCA, gawping at the huge shining yachts with their helicopters and swimming pools. And no, you can’t board ‘just for a look.’

If you do happen to have a spare €20 million+ to buy a berth lease, or fancy paying thousands a night to dock your 50metre+ superyacht, then you’ll be interested to know that the IYCA has plenty of room for the fuel trucks to dock, as well as waste services, electricity and water services and all the other things you’d expect from a luxury yacht marina. It also has a helicopter landing pad, that’s in case your yacht isn’t big enough for the helicopter to land straight onto its deck.

Port Vauban On the other hand, if you don’t happen to have that kind of money to hand and just want to dock a smaller boat in Antibes, then the rest of Port Vauban is a much more reasonable prospect. It runs from the ‘Old Port’ edging the wall of the IYCA quay, right around the bay to the shipyard beneath Fort Carre. This huge port has over 1600 berths-although these berths are still quite expensive and fiercely contested year-round. Many yachts will ‘winter’ in Antibes, making the most of the yachting infrastructure, suppliers and English speaking ‘yachtie bars’ that make this town a favourite for yacht crews. A lot of the berths are owned in an ‘amodie’ structure of share ownership, and many of the yachts have been berthed there for decades and barely seem to move.

However, with so many berths and a brilliant location, Port Vauban is indisputably a great place to berth your yacht, so book as early as possible. If you’re looking for a berth to buy or rent long-term, you can contact specialist berth companies such as Mooring Spot , while major yacht brokerages also list berths for sale.

If you’re just coming into Antibes on your yacht and are looking for somewhere to tie up for a night or two, contact the capitanerie (port headquarters) on VHF 09 to find out availability. The larger yachts will be based on either the Capitanerie Quay, the ‘Old Port’, or the Y Quay; the smaller vessels are mostly down towards the shipyard at the Fort Carre end of the port.

The professional fishing port is just near the archway leading towards the old port and IYCA and you’ll find a couple of small fishing charters and dive operators leaving from this area.

Port de la Salis The small fishing and leisure port of Port de la Salis is found at the end of the beaches at the base of the Cap d’Antibes. It has 220 berths for vessels up to 6m, as well as a little lift for haul outs.

Port Gallice Port Gallice is a modern marina and shipyard at Juan-les-Pins in the Antibes commune, accommodating yachts up to 45m in 525 berths. Well protected from winds, this marina has a travelift, a restaurant, shower and toilet facilities as well as waste, water and electricity services.

Port du Crouton Very close to Port Gallice, the small Port du Crouton caters to small vessels and local fishermen. There are moorings for 390 boats with a maximum length of 10 metres.

Marinas close to Antibes-Juan les Pins

For those wanting something slightly cheaper or if you can’t find a spot in Antibes or Juan les Pins, the nearby towns of Golfe Juan and Villeneuve Loubet also have popular marinas.

Villeneuve-Loubet Marina Baie des Anges is located below the immense curved buildings that dominate the coastline at Villeneuve Loubet on the way to Nice. This resort-style marina offers 574 berths up to 28m in length, as well as restaurants, boutiques, 8 hectares of gardens and a man-made white sand beach in the complex.

Golfe Juan Nearby Golfe Juan in the direction of Cannes has two popular marinas: Port du Golfe Juan and Port Camille Rayon , which lie side by side. Port Camille Rayon has 833 berths for boats from 6 m to 75 m. Restaurants, bars and yachting suppliers line the docks of these busy ports.

More inspiration...

All in all, it’s safe to say that there are a lot of boat berths in Antibes and the surrounding towns, making it an ideal place to stop and explore this gorgeous part of the French Riviera. With a huge yachting infrastructure and a long maritime history, Antibes is a fantastic stop on your boating holiday. Just remember to book early!

Burgess at relaunch of new IYCA facilities.

Published 23 May 2023

Members of the Nice Chamber of Commerce and the Mayor of Antibes were joined by the international yachting community and global press to celebrate the opening of the new facilities at Port Vauban in Antibes.

The new clubhouse is conveniently located next to the marina's helipad. The marina has impeccable local, national and international transport links

The International Yacht Club d’Antibes (IYCA) hosted a glitzy affair complete with dancers, cocktail making and a DJ. Architect for the project, Philippe Prost, along with Jean-Pierre Savarino, President of the Nice Chamber of Commerce, and Jean Leonetti, Mayor of Antibes Juan-les-Pins, officially kicked off proceedings with an address to the 200-strong crowd.

The lounge bar has a balcony overlooking Quai Camille Rayon, where berths with long leases are available

Olivia Gordon-Bourcart, Directrice Relation Client, Développement Commercial, Marketing, Port Vauban said, ‘We always say that Antibes is the yachting capital but I think we lost this for a few years. We were not up to the same standard as the competition. So our goal is to become, once again, the capital of the yachting industry. Tonight is a big step towards achieving this goal.

The clubhouse has a variety of multi-use facilities for owners and their guests

‘We see the IYCA as a nice place to be, a nice place to live and a nice place to work. It is not just a parking space for your yacht, it is a very pleasant place to spend time.’

Access to the Quai is restricted to berth holders, their guests, crew and any yachting services required by owners

With Burgess and Edmiston acting as commercial partners, the new marina is more than equipped to reach its full potential. Rupert Nelson , Senior Partner at Burgess commented, ‘The marina is one of the few, if not the only one, that offers total privacy and seclusion. Unless you have a berth, you cannot walk down the quayside. It is not open to the general public. This is a very important element for our clients.’

The concierge service is available 24/7/365

The opening of the IYCA marks the first stage in the regeneration of the port. ‘It was important to do it all in stages, to keep work to a minimum and minimise the disruption to clients,’ continues Gordon-Bourcart. ‘The whole site covers an area of 43 acres, so we have a long way to go yet.’

World-class crew facilities include a gym, yoga studio, lounge and bar

The IYCA has placed a huge emphasis on crew by dedicating certain areas to their exclusive use. This includes a gym and a crew lounge. The bar is also open for all to socialise together, crew, clients and guests.

Getting about is made easy by a fleet of electric buggies

Stephanie Bosi Delmasse , Burgess Broker, is excited to be working with Port Vauban, ‘This marina offers so much to our clients with a 24-hour concierge service supporting everything from bunkering to recycling plus the fantastic amenities within Antibes itself. We feel it is an ideal place for yachts to call home.’

The marina always had every possible superyacht service on its doorstep, now it has a brand-new social and business space for owners and guests, right at the heart of the French Rivieraspace

Berth Description

The BILLIONAIRES’ QUAY also known as the “IYCA”, currently stretches 650 m out into the sea and is the main breakwater of the entire port Vauban of Antibes. It has 19 berths for yachts up to 90 m in length, including two larger berths for 150 m and 165 m Megayachts. The leaseholds giving the right to use the berths located on this famous quay sell for record figures and they are extremely limited and highly demanded.

The berth owners of the BILLIONAIRES’ QUAY in Antibes are among the wealthiest individuals on the planet, and their Megayachts, the most stunning. Though this quay was an ambitious project in its early days, this section of the port is nowadays also subject to overwhelming demand.

Knowing how much Megayachts generate for the economy, since 2011 the port Vauban and the town of Antibes have projected an expansion which would double the length of the jetty up to 1,250 m, creating an additional 450 m of quay for 25 Superyacht and Megayacht berths, with the possibility to even welcome cruise ships, as well as creating shelter for the area on the north-eastern flank of Fort Carré. The cost of this extension is estimated at 230,000,000 €.

The exploitation of the basin of the BILLIONAIRES’ QUAY in Port Vauban of Antibes is managed by the International Yacht Club of Antibes “IYCA”, which financed and realized this project of moorings for Megayachts.

The BILLIONAIRES’ QUAY is located opposite the Fort Vauban hill and the berth layouts features a configuration essentially for Megayachts and some Superyachts in addition right next to the International Yacht Club.

The BILLIONAIRES’ QUAY of Antibes was built in order to accommodate 19 large pleasure vessels; It has been laid out as follows: 7 Posts of 70m x 16m 4 Posts of 80m x 18m 6 Posts of 90m x 20m 1 Post of 150m x 28m 1 Post of 165m x 40m

Mooring of Megayachts: A new system of mooring boxes is installed; it removes all chains, mooring buoys and brings to the ships security and ease of docking.

Heliport: The helicopter landing area represents a 28m by 29m rectangle. It has a regulatory sign allowing, subject to the authorization of the IYCA, the landing day and night. In addition, the heliport has four parking spaces.

Carl, Is Coral Island still that horrible beige/sandy colour? Hard to tell from the photos.
Yep. Shoulda named it 'Island Sand'. It's a creme color, stuck somewhere between beige and cake batter frosting.
