CLASSIC 40M BENETTI Motor yacht for sale

A handsome yacht with a first-class pedigree, CLASSIC 40M BENETTI is a 39.5m (129.5ft) tri-deck motor yacht constructed in steel with aluminium superstructure and delivered by the renowned Italian shipyard in 1970. Her long-standing owner has kept a tight maintenance schedule, ensuring that each winter the yacht is refitted and refurbished as needed.

Exterior design details include a graceful sheer line and bow profile, a classic canoe stern, full walkaround sidedecks on two levels and traditional varnished teak capping rails. Covered companionways on the main deck feature Benetti’s signature sculpted mullions.

The sun deck has L-shaped sofa seating and a huge expanse of sunpads with partial shade from a fixed awning and exercise equipment forward either side of the funnel. There is another large sunpad forward on the bridge deck and steps down to cushioned seats overlooking the foredeck.

She has a spacious bridge deck aft with shaded open-air dining beneath the sun deck overhang and a sun lounge with a sofa, armchairs and a coffee table opposite two sun loungers. There’s a sociable seating area aft that serves as a second open-air dining option with a U-shaped banquette, folding armchairs, a large high-gloss varnished table and a folding canvas bimini.

The main deck aft has four large rattan armchairs around a coffee table in ample shade. Inside, her interior decor is traditional, with finely crafted features. The main deck saloon has a large lounge area aft with L-shaped sofas and two armchairs and forward is the formal dining area with an eight-seat table. The sky lounge has a large sofa facing aft, looking through double doors opening onto the upper aft deck.

Welcoming up to eight guests in four cabins with seven crew, CLASSIC 40M BENETTI offers 267GT of internal volume. The guest accommodation is arranged across two decks. The owner’s suite is forward on the main deck, has an office desk and a 10sqm (108sqft) walk-in wardrobe. The en suite has a bathtub as well as a shower. The other guest cabins are on the lower deck, comprising a full-beam VIP double forward and two twin cabins that each have extra pullman berths.

This twin-screw yacht is powered by twin 624hp Caterpillar diesel engines with low engine hours. Her top speed is 13.7kts and she cruises at 11.5kts with a maximum range of 3,600nm.

A superyacht measuring nearly 130 feet sunk off the coast of southern Italy on Saturday, after members of the Italian Coast Guard rescued nine people from the submerging ship.

This weekend, the Italian press reported that the 39.4-meter motor yacht named "My Saga" sunk off the coast of Catanzaro Marina.

Video from the scene shows the massive boat teetering into the water before fully sinking stern-first.

Sky News reported that worsening weather conditions rendered it impossible for a rescue tugboat to bring the yacht to safety.

An investigation into what caused the ship to sink is underway, the outlet reported. 

The yacht was built in Italy in 2007, according to Super Yacht Times, and was traveling from Gallipoli to Milazzo under a Cayman Islands flag with a full Italian crew when it sunk.

Dramatic footage has captured the moment a 40-metre superyacht sank into the Mediterranean sea after being battered in a storm.

The 40-metre-long luxury vessel was sailing from Gallipoli to Milazzo overnight on Saturday when it got into trouble around 15km from Italy’s Catanzaro Marina.

Footage shows the yacht, named My Saga, rapidly disappearing beneath waves, as lifeboats appear to float beside it.

The captain sent out a distress call to the Port Authority of Crotone, with officials told the yacht was taking on a significant amount of water from the stern.

The Italian coastguard dispatched two patrol vessels and rescued all four passengers and five crew members on board.

A tugboat sent out at dawn was unable to save the superyacht from sinking because of worsening weather conditions, the Super Yacht Times reports. The Saga finally sank at around 1pm on Sunday.

The outlet reports the yacht, which was built in Monaco back in 2007, was flying under the Cayman Islands flag with an all-Italian crew when it sunk.

An investigation has been launched into the cause.

It comes after a £6 million superyacht sunk after it went up in flames in the UK on the Torquay harbourside.

The 85ft vessel was consumed by fire , with thick black smoking billowing into the sky.

The yacht reportedly drifted out into the harbour after the fire burnt through ropes securing it to the pier, but the vessel was later secured by the fire service.

A fire service statement revealed that the vessel contained approximately 8000 litres of diesel fuel.

Why search of superyacht wreck has been so difficult

A diver coordinating the search and rescue effort says conditions have been "prohibitive". Sky News looks at the challenges the operation has faced.

The search operation to recover the bodies of those who died on board the Bayesian superyacht when it sank has been plagued with difficulties.

Seven bodies have been found after the luxury vessel went down off the coast of Sicily in the early hours of Monday, with six identified.

Here, Sky News looks at the factors that have made the search and rescue operation so difficult.

Depth of the wreckage

Marco Tilotta, a diver who has been coordinating the search and rescue, said teams worked continuously from Monday but conditions below the water have been "prohibitive".

The British-flagged superyacht is still largely intact on the seabed, but the 50m depth to which it sank makes it difficult to access.

The depth is far deeper than most recreational divers are qualified to reach and requires special precautions.

This means divers can only spend around 12 minutes under the water at a time - with a maximum of 10 minutes of actual search time.

This is in part to help avoid decompression sickness - also known as the "bends" - which can occur when divers stay underwater for long periods and ascend too quickly.

"The longer you stay, the slower your ascent has to be," says Simon Rogerson, the editor of SCUBA magazine.

As well as the pressure at this depth, divers have had to battle the cold and dark water conditions.

To try to overcome this, a tag-team method has been used to swap divers in and out.

Entering the yacht

Reaching the wreckage is only the beginning of the difficulties posed to divers.

The 56-metre-long vessel is currently lying on its right side, meaning there are few points of entry. Divers have not been able to see anything inside the yacht from outside it.

Luca Cari, from Italy's fire and rescue department, said originally divers were able to enter the yacht through the lounge via a ladder. It has been reported were also able to open a hole in the side of the boat.

The command bridge, which is full of electrical cables, was also searched but no one was found.

Mr Cari said divers identified a glass window through which they could enter, though it had to be removed to gain access. The window is 3cm thick, making removal difficult.

Cabins blocked by furniture

The Bayesian sank in a matter of minutes at around 4.30am local time on Monday, so many of the 22 people on board were thought to have been asleep.

Rescue crews said they assumed those missing were in cabins below deck, but divers were unable to access these areas because of furniture blocking the way.

According to Italian media, two of the bodies recovered on Wednesday were found behind two mattresses.

Technology employed to help search

As well as specialist divers, remote-controlled underwater devices have been deployed during the search.

One drone used by the Italian coastguard can stay at a depth of 50m for around two hours.

An upgraded drone can stay underwater for six to seven hours at a depth of 300m.

The underwater technology can record detailed images and help with a reconstruction of what happened.

Former Royal Navy submarine captain Ryan Ramsey said the drones were "amazing pieces of technology".

Dr Jamie Pringle, a reader in forensic geoscience at Keele University, added that the devices were "really useful" for divers to check which areas should be explored further, and others which should be avoided.

ROME – The captain of a superyacht that sank during a storm off Sicily last week, killing seven people, decided not to respond to prosecutors’ questions Tuesday, his lawyer said.

James Cutfield, a 51-year-old New Zealand national, is under investigation for possible manslaughter and culpable shipwreck charges and was questioned for the third time by the Termini Imerese prosecutors Tuesday.

“He just exercised his right to remain silent, probably prosecutors were expecting that,” lawyer Aldo Mordiglia told The Associated Press, adding that the captain’s legal team has just been named and needs time to work on his defensive strategy.

Cutfield was among 15 survivors of the Aug. 19 sinking that killed British tech magnate Mike Lynch , his daughter Hannah and five others.

Chief prosecutor Ambrogio Cartosio, who’s heading the investigation, has said his team would consider each possible element of responsibility including those of the captain, the crew, individuals in charge of supervision and the yacht’s manufacturer.

The Bayesian, a 56-meter (184-foot) British-flagged luxury yacht, went down near the Mediterranean island in southern Italy. Investigators are focusing on how a sailing vessel deemed “unsinkable” by its manufacturer, Italian shipyard Perini Navi, sank while a nearby sailboat remained largely unscathed.

Prosecutors said the event was “extremely rapid” and could have been a “downburst” — a localized, powerful wind that descends from a thunderstorm and spreads out rapidly upon hitting the ground.

The crew was saved, except for the chef, while six passengers were trapped in the hull.

Vor einer Woche sank die Superyacht „Bayesian“ vor Sizilien binnen Minuten in einem Sturm. Sieben Menschen starben, der Kapitän gehört zu den Überlebenden. Nun verdichten sich Hinweise auf Fehlverhalten von ihm und anderen Besatzungsmitgliedern.

Nun also doch: Gegen den Kapitän der vor der sizilianischen Küste im Sturm gesunkenen Luxusyacht Bayesian hat die Staatsanwaltschaft in Palermo jetzt ein formelles Ermittlungsverfahren wegen fahrlässiger Tötung und Schiffsbruchs eingeleitet, wie italienische Medien am Montag berichteten. Der 51-jährige Neuseeländer wird als sehr erfahrener Skipper beschrieben, der schon seit vielen Jahren Luxusboote führte. Er wurde nun bereits zweimal vernommen, in der Öffentlichkeit ist von ihm nur der eine Satz aus dem Krankenhaus bekannt, wonach er gesagt haben soll: „Wir haben den Sturm nicht kommen sehen.“

Bisher hatten die Ermittler ausdrücklich niemanden konkret ins Visier genommen, der für das aufsehenerregende nächtliche Unglück verantwortlich sein könnte, bei dem die 56 Meter lange Luxusyacht in Ufernähe binnen Minuten im Meer versank. Dabei wurden sieben Menschen mit in die Tiefe gerissen, darunter der britische Multimilliardär und Software-Pionier Mike Lynch und seine 18-jährige Tochter. Ums Leben kamen ferner zwei befreundete Ehepaare und der Schiffskoch; alle Leichen wurden mittlerweile aus dem in 49 Meter Tiefe auf der Seite liegenden Wrack geborgen und kommen nun in die Autopsie.

Unverändert wird darüber gerätselt, wie eine so große Yacht so schnell untergehen konnte. Ein naheliegendes, etwas kleineres Schiff überstand den Sturm unbeschadet und konnte die im Wasser treibenden Überlebenden aufnehmen. Der nächtliche Sturm war seit Tagen erwartet worden, nicht allerdings die Wasserhose oder die Fallböe, die das Schiff um kurz nach vier Uhr am Montagmorgen vor einer Woche traf. Die Herstellerfirma erklärte das Schiff, das mit dem höchsten Aluminiummast der Welt ausgestattet war, schon früh für sicher und schob die Schuld schnell auf die Besatzung. Für diese Theorie häufen sich in der Tat nach vielen Tauchgängen von Spezialisten die Indizien.

Die Rede ist von einer offenen Pforte am Heck des Schiffes, wo die Wasserfahrzeuge an Bord genommen werden. Dahinter liegt der Maschinenraum, zu dem es ebenfalls eine Tür geben soll. Das Schiff ist nach Zeugenaussagen mit dem Heck zuerst und innerhalb von maximal fünf Minuten gesunken. Auch soll der Hubkiel des Segelschiffes, das diesem auf See Stabilität gibt, teilweise eingezogen gewesen sein, wie dies bei der Einfahrt in einen Hafen üblich ist; die Bayesian lag aber 900 Meter vor der Küste.

Die Ermittlungen der Staatsanwaltschaft konzentrieren sich auf die Ereignisse unmittelbar vor dem Sinken des Schiffes, also auf eine Zeitspanne zwischen 3:50 Uhr, als der Sturm anhob, und 4:06 Uhr, als das automatische Sinksignal ertönte. Die Crew hatte anscheinend etwa eine Viertelstunde Zeit, um zu reagieren. Alle Besatzungsmitglieder außer dem Schiffskoch waren an Deck und überlebten, während alle Opfer womöglich noch schlafend in den Kabinen vom Wasser eingeschlossen wurden und dann nicht mehr schnell genug den Weg nach draußen fanden.

Dies gelangen nur Lynchs Frau, der die Yacht gehörte und von der es heißt, sie sei durch die wilden Schiffsbewegungen geweckt worden und an Deck gegangen, um nach dem Rechten zu sehen, sowie einer jungen Mitarbeiterin des Milliardärs samt Ehemann und kleinem Kind.

Mittlerweile gehen Gerüchte um von einer Party am Vorabend bis hin zu einer angeblichen Explosion an Bord und von Geheimdienstaktivitäten. Letztere speisen sich unter anderem daraus, dass die Software, mit der Lynch reich geworden ist, angeblich in den Kriegen in der Ukraine und in Nahost eingesetzt werde. Wahrscheinlicher ist jedenfalls, dass das Schiff von der ungewöhnlich heftigen Böe direkt getroffen wurde und dann extrem schnell Wasser aufnahm. Letzte Gewissheit wird es möglicherweise erst geben, wenn das Schiff gehoben sein wird, was noch Wochen, wenn nicht Monate dauern kann.
