Sarakiniko Beach : As the most popular beach on the island of Milos, Sarakiniko is undeniably enchanting. With its white, rocky exterior standing tall against the sapphire blue waters of the idyllic Aegean Sea, it should come as no surprise that this beach is one of the most photographed locations in all of the Cyclades Islands . Home to a sunken shipwreck, unique rock formations, and a dramatic, but beautiful, background, Sarakiniko is the perfect place for visitors to tan under the warm Grecian sun, go snorkeling or simply take in Milos’ treasured landscape.

Papafragas Beach : Tucked deep within one of Milos’ hidden rocky caves, Papafragas Beach is an ecological destination not to be missed. Its unspoiled beaches and crystal, turquoise waters provide the perfect backdrop for a quiet retreat amidst some of the world’s most beautiful views. Hard to find, but worth discovering, Papafragas Beach is one of the island’s true buried treasures.

Trypiti : With a name that translates to “riddled with holes,” the quaint village of Trypiti is believed to be the birthplaces of the famed Venus de Milo. Perched upon the hillsides of Milos, a common trait of traditional villages in the Cyclades, Trypiti boasts celestial views of Milos and the surrounding archipelago, below. Located just outside the ancient city of Plaka, this village sits near Christian catacombs dating back to the 2nd century BC and more than 2,000 burial recesses. It still retains its original authenticity today.

Panagia Korfiatissa : Stemming from 1810, the church of Panagia Korfiatissa is located on the steep cliffs of the western side of Plaka. Dedicated to the Virgin Mary, this piece of religious history exists today in its remnants: like the pictures of Cretan-Byzantine art, silver boxes containing various holy relics, and the gilded epitaph of 1600 by the Virgin Mary Skiniotissa, to name a few. Noticed by travelers for its impressive architecture, Panagia Korfiatissa offers visitors pristine views of beautiful sunsets over the Aegean Sea below.

Milos – Things To Do

If you want a respite from the mind-blowing seascapes you can only enjoy from the deck of a yacht, there’s plenty to do onshore as well. Besides sailing to spectacular Kleftiko and Sarakiniko and visiting the island’s many other exquisite beaches, Milos offers some intriguing historical sites. Visit the early Christian catacombs in the northern Trypiti area, where you’ll find ancient tombs carved out of the porous rock.

In Adamas, the main harbour town, you’ll find the remnants of a World War II bomb shelter as well as an ancient Roman amphitheatre. And, of course, there’s the field near Tripiti where the ancient marble statue of Venus de Milo was discovered in 1820. This famous statue is now on display in the Louvre in Paris.

Insider Tip: You can see a good replica of the Venus de Milo statue in the archaeological museum at Plaka.

Milos – Gourmet Experience

Even if you simply love the gourmet flair of your private chef (some yachts provide Michelin-star chefs) it’s still worth having the unique experience of dining in an authentic Greek taverna. The island is packed with excellent tavernas and restaurants, so finding a good meal isn’t difficult. In Pollonia, head to family-run Enalion, where they serve freshly caught seafood and delicious salads made with homegrown produce. Another good choice is Gialos, where you can try proper taramasalata, grilled calamari, fish and prawns. In Tripiti, try Ergina, which has beautiful sea views from its terrace and offers traditional yet sophisticated meals, and Barriello, which is known for its fresh salads and cheese platters. Don’t leave the island without trying its signature dish, watermelon pie.

Milos – Nightlife

After a day of sailing around the coast of Milos, step off your private yacht at nightfall and enjoy the nocturnal goings-on of the island. Sailing Milos is a family business founded by George Mathioudakis, who was captain of the Merchant Navy as of 1995 and afterwards as captain of an excursion ship that toured around Milos.

In 2003 he bought his first boat, a traditional wooden sailboat and started showing visitors the treasures of the island.

Milos is a volcanic island, located in the southernmost part of the Cyclades islands complex. It has been inhabited since prehistoric times and has significant mineral wealth such as obsidian, bentonite, perlite etc., due to its volcanic activity.

There are more than 70 beaches ready to explore, some of which are accessible by land, while others only by sea.

10 MUST SEEN PLACES IN MILOS

The most famous sightseen of Milos was a hideout of pirates from the 15th to the end of 17th century. Many famous pirates had Kleftiko as their prime attack location due to the very good visibility of merchant boats travelling through the Aegean Sea. It is located at the Southwest tip of the island and has access only from the sea.

The imposing rock formations, elaborate caves and crystal-clear waters will tempt you to jump in the water and explore with us this historic place.

Sarakiniko is one of the most famous beaches on the island. Its beauty is a result of the white volcanic rocks that makes it look like a lunar landscape. The white of the rocks and the blue of the sea create this geological landscape adorning Milos with another natural treasure.

The beach got its name from the Saracen pirates who used it as a base. In some places around the beach, you may also find some bollards for pirate ships.

Klima is one of the most colorful villages of Milos located near Tripiti, on the side of the Gulf of Milos. The scenic beauty of Klima is due to its “sirmata”, the fishermen houses, which are carved into the rocks. Each sirma has a different color door at the bottom where in winter they protected their fishing boats from bad weather. Here you may also enjoy one of the best sunsets of the island.

The cave of Sykia is in the southwestern part of Milos and can be visited only by boat.

What makes it particularly special is the fact that its roof has collapsed and thus, the light coming in from this opening creates a fairytale landscape.

It took its name from a fig tree in the cave, which collapsed along with the last part of the roof about 30 years ago.

Thiorichia (Sulphur Mines)

Thiorichia were very famous for the mineral wealth from the ancient years until more recent times. The mine was producing big quantities of Sulphur and other minerals. The workers lived on the premises of the sulfur mines on weekdays where the working conditions in the galleries were difficult, mainly due to lack of ventilation and high temperatures. In the ‘60s the production stopped permanently due to reduced demand when the sulfur became a byproduct of petroleum refining at very low cost.

The old Manganese mine is located at Cape Vani. The mine operated from 1886 to 1909 and from 1918 to 1928 when it closed permanently due to reduced demand after the end of WWI. There are still the abandoned facilities in the area.

The intense red colors of the rocks make Vani to look like a turtle shell.

Gerakas beach is in the southern part of the island and is accessible only with a boat. The turquoise waters and sand slides are some of the reasons why this beach is one of our favorites.

On the beach there is a cave with hot springs. These were created due to the active volcano of Agia Kyriaki which is located above the beach

Glaronisia got their name from the permanent inhabitants of these three rocky islets, the seagulls! They are in the northern part of the island and can be visited only by boat.

These small islands are result of volcanic lava due to geological turbulences thousands of years ago. Due to the alternation of temperatures between the lava and the sea, vertical hexagonal columns were formed and created a unique attraction.

The complex of these rocky islets is located at the entrance of the gulf of Milos and can be visited only by boat. These rocks are sculpted from the sea in such a way that, depending on the angle from which one sees them, the rocks take the form of a bear, a rabbit, and other animals, whence their name.

The catacombs of Milos are located below Tripiti village and are dated from the 1st up to the 5th century AD. Along with the catacombs of Rome and the Holy Land, they are considered the most important finds of the Early Christian Years, out of the 74 catacombs found around the world. The catacombs are 184 meters long and about 8,000 Christians were buried inside.

In 2009, the Holy Synod declared Milos a sacred island as her catacombs is one of the oldest monuments of Christianity.

Επισκεφτήκαμε το υπέροχο νησί της Μήλου και επιλέξαμε το eleni sailboat για να δούμε τις κρυμμένες ομορφιές του νησιού. Εντυπωσιαστήκαμε όχι μόνο από το νησί και τις μοναδικές παραλίες του αλλά και από την ευγένεια και την εξυπηρετικότητα της Δώρας που είχε αναλάβει όλη την ξενάγηση και μας έκανε να αισθανόμαστε άνετα και να θυμόμαστε αυτή την εκδρομή ως μια αξέχαστη εμπειρία. Ο Σταύρος είναι εξαιρετικός καπετάνιος και ευχαριστηθήκαμε την συντροφιά του. Η ξενάγηση, οι φωτογραφίες και οι παροχές στο σκάφος ήταν εξαιρετικές. Το συστήνουμε ανεπιφύλακτα.

Επισκεφτήκαμε τη Μήλο το 2019 και 2020! Η κρουαζιέρα είναι πραγματικά απ’ τις πιο ωραίες εμπειρίες! Η Δώρα αναλαμβάνει όλη την ξενάγηση και σε κάνει να θυμάσαι αυτό το ταξίδι για πάντα! Δίνει την ψυχή της πραγματικά για αυτό που κάνει, στα αναλύει όλα με λεπτομέρεια και βγάζει απίστευτες φωτογραφίες ! Ο Σταύρος υπέροχος καπετάνιος που σου εμπνέει εμπιστοσύνη και σου λέει απλόχερα όλα τ μυστικά του νησιού! Το συστήνω ανεπιφύλακτα!

Εξαιρετική εμπειρία.

Είναι η ιδανική επιλογή για να πραγματοποιήσεις τον γύρο της Μήλου. Βλέπεις όντως το νησί καθώς σε πολλά σημεία προσεγγίζει αρκετά κοντά την ακτή. Κάνει στάση για κολύμπι και στην Πολύαιγο. Ξεκινήσαμε 09:00 και γυρίσαμε 19:30. η τιμή του ήταν 80 ευρώ. περιλαμβάνει φαγητό και ποτό. Θα πρότεινα στους διοργανωτές ηλιοβασίλεμα εν πλω κοντά στο Κλήμα. επίσης αν υπήρχαν μαξιλάρια στον καναπέ κ στην πλώρη του πλοίου η συνολική εμπειρία θα γινόταν ακόμα καλύτερη. Σε βγάζουν φωτογραφίες στο πλοίο κ υποβρύχιες, τις οποίες στις δίνουν σε dvd. H Δώρα έκανε ότι μπορούσε για να έχουμε μία αξέχαστη ημέρα. Ο Σταύρος ως κυβερνήτης εμπνέει ασφάλεια. Η συμβουλή μου σε οποίον επισκέπτεται την μήλο είναι οπωσδήποτε να κάνει την συγκεκριμένη εκδρομή. Άποψή μου να την κάνετε τις πρώτες μέρες, καθώς βλέπεις αρκετά τοπία, τα οποία μετά δεν θα χρειάζεται να επισκεφτείς με το αυτοκίνητο.

Away from the sugar-cube buildings of Santorini and the windmills standing tall over Mykonos, Milos is the island that you'll want to know about for your next  superyacht charter in Greece .

Rising up from the Aegean just 85 nautical miles from the superyacht hub of Santorini , the volcanic island of Milos is one of the unsung jewels of the Cyclades archipelago .

From its flourishing food scene to its famous beach and secret shipwreck, there are plenty of reasons to add Milos to your charter itinerary this summer.

It acts as the perfect contrast to the buzz of its sister islands, with an authenticity that's difficult to find in this popular pocket of Greece . It's full of character and rustic charm, and while it's still off the radar for most yacht-goers, we've seen an increase in the demand for yacht charter vacations in Milos.

Superyachts typically visit Milos as part of an itinerary around the Cyclades, with a cruise time of around seven hours from Athens, five and a half hours from Mykonos and five from Santorini, depending on the size and speed of your charter yacht.

It's easy to drop anchor in the sheltered basin that splits the island. There is a small harbor in Adamantas, the main town, but there are no berths for larger yachts- the local fleet is mostly fishing boats and small sailing yachts. 

If you're considering visiting Milos by yacht this summer, here's what you can expect from the island.

Waves have shaped the volcanic rock into an unusual terrain that's often compared to a moonscape.

The island's unique, chalky-white rock formations sit on the north side of the island at Sarakiniko Beach.

The beach itself sits at the base of a shallow, sky-blue inlet, with rocky banks rising up either side (be aware that the water in the inlet can be rough during high tide).

The landscape around the beach is smooth, with curved segments and interesting little peaks that give it its lunar appearance. Overlooking the sea, cliffs soar over the water concealing a network of sea caves; take the water toys out for a spin and you'll have hours of fun exploring.

Charter smarter:

Ask your yacht crew to set off early on the morning you want to visit Sarakiniko. You'll escape the crowds, and get to enjoy breakfast on deck while watching the sun rise up from the south.

The best anchorages are a short tender journey away, around Polonia and Voudhia. 

You will discover that Milos  is also home to one of Greece's best-kept secrets; the rusted remains of a former oil tanker which was shipwrecked close to the island in 2003.

Since it was launched in 1966, the vessel underwent many name changes and is known locally as the Sicily, the Africa and the Dubai Star. Although many tourists may not be familiar with the attraction, it is regarded as a local treasure and is very much worth a visit for those keen on scuba and snorkelling.

The ship broke into two pieces, with both of them protruding above the waterline during low tides. The scuba spot is unique because it's so shallow, and remains in reasonably good condition with plenty of aquatic life for you to enjoy.

The buildings of Klima were painted in bright colors to help the fishermen identify their homes from the sea.

With its deep blue sea, vivid Cycladic sunsets and colorful buildings, Milos is certainly worthy of its nickname; the island of color.

Cruising into Adamantas you'll spot the sleepy fishing village of Klima on your port side. White buildings line up along the water with scarlet doors, mint-green balconies and warm tangerine shutters creating a particularly pretty sight.  The reason behind their theatrical hues is more practical - they were to make it easy for the fishermen to identify their homes from the sea.

Step on shore to stretch your legs and be sure to pay a visit to one of the many boathouses that line the coast. You will discover that most of them are stores that sell homespun trinkets and garments handcrafted by the locals.

The dining scene in Milos has got people talking and the cuisine is evidence enough to support the island's growing popularity. You will find that there is no shortage of little Greek tavernas where you can sample local specialties, fresh ingredients, and traditional flavors of Greece. 

Head to Mikros Apoplous for a beguiling oceanfront setting to accompany your meal. Be sure to try the shrimp risotto, sea bass carpaccio or lobster cooked over coals for a truly decadent dining experience.

For a casual lunch, the white and turquoise fronted restaurant of Bakalikon Galanis is the one to beat. Greek salads elevate simple flavors to a new level, while the veal meatballs are a fan favorite, accompanied by a made-to-order spiced sauce. 

Star entries include baby goat baked in parchment and molasses and slow-cooked suckling pig cooked in honey and rosemary.

But the restaurant creating the most buzz on the island is Oh Hamos.

Located close to Papikinou beach in an elegant garden setting, the family-run taverna has queues of people outside its doors during peak season- so be sure to ask your yacht crew to call ahead and book a table.

During its 27 years of business, the restaurant has finessed its recipes to an art. Star entries include baby goat baked in parchment with fresh lemon juice, mustard and marjoram. Slow-cooked suckling pig cooked with grapes, molasses, mustard and thyme is another favorite. 

In contrast to other restaurants on the island, the hand-written menu has meat dishes taking center stage, rather than fish- that's because everything comes from the family's farm, so you can expect nothing but tender, melt-in-the-mouth dishes that truly embrace the concept of farm-to-fork. 

Offering a true taste of Greece, the tables in Oh Hamos are scattered around a courtyard in the midst of terracotta pots filled with geraniums and herbs, with loaves of homemade bread hanging from each table.  The lemon walls are scrawled with Greek poetry and compliments to Athina, the matriarch of the restaurant, who regularly pops her head into the restaurant to chat to her diners.

The luxury travel advisors at Virtuoso have named it. Now that travelers have had a taste of private yachting, they don’t want to give it up. According to insights released at Virtuoso Travel Week in Las Vegas, private yacht bookings are up 79 percent this year compared to 2019.

As more and more people turn to chartering yachts for their vacations, the world’s finest hotels are taking note and transferring their five-star service to the water. “Luxury hotels are masters of their own environments and deliver impeccable experiences for their guests. A yachting experience enables them to add an extra dimension to their service,” Ben Casey, owner of U.K. luxury travel agency Out of this World Travel, tells Robb Report . “They become their guests’ personal tour guides in some of the world’s most breathtaking environments.”

Half-day excursions or week-long charters or available, on classic sailing yachts or elegant superyachts. For many travelers, it means taking their first steps in yachting on a vessel with the same five-star touches as their favorite land-based hotels.

Here are 13 of the best hotel-and-yacht combinations around the world.

‘Satori,’ Borgo Santo Pietro, Italy

In the Middle Ages, Borgo Santo Pietro served as a place for weary pilgrims to rest. Centuries later, the sprawling 270-acre property near Florence has lost none of its healing properties. A handful of rooms and suites are set inside a carefully restored 800-year-old farmhouse and paired with Michelin-star dining, a medicinal garden, and an organic vineyard. Less than an hour away on the coast, the estate’s wooden schooner, Satori , is waiting to whisk guests away to Sardinia or Sicily. The 136-foot vessel evokes the romance of the 1920s and 1930s with touches including silverware from the era and deck chairs identical to the legendary Harry’s Bar in Venice. Then came the hotel: Xenodocheio Milos in Athens in 2022, an opening that heralded a return to the roots of chef Costas Spiliadis. Now comes the yacht: Milos at Sea , the 113-foot Codecasa motoryacht that brings Spiliadis’s culinary philosophy to the water. On weekly charters for groups of up to 10 in the Greek Islands, local cuisine, and culture come to the fore, as does a carefully curated menu from this celebrity chef’s personal chef. ‘Major Affair,’ Anantara Layan Residences, Thailand

The Man with the Golden Gun was the last James Bond novel Ian Fleming penned, but the story lives on at Anantara Layan Residences in Thailand. As part of its “Golden Gun” experience, guests fly from Bangkok to Phuket by private jet before transferring to a chauffeur-driven limo for the final stretch to the resort. Puente Romano Beach Resort in Marbella already has a Six Senses spa and a two-star Michelin restaurant, so the arrival of a sleek sailing yacht to enhance the guest experience was the logical next step. Built in 1990 and restored in 2020, Revolution is a 53-foot vessel fully crewed for half- and full-day excursions off the southern Spanish coast. Guests can learn sailing and navigation basics or make a splash with paddleboards in the water while catching glimpses of the Rock of Gibraltar or Africa’s coastline. “For guests, it is a wonderful way to experience the area in the intimacy of their own private space,” says general manager Gonzalo Rodriquez. $2,000 for 4 hours.

‘Star of the Sea,’ Bequia Beach Hotel, St. Vincent and the Grenadines

Bengt Mortstedt stumbled upon Bequia, a castaway island in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, by chance as he explored the Caribbean on his sailing ketch in the early 1990s. He never left, founding the Bequia Beach Hotel. From just 10 rooms and a rum shack on the beach, the hotel has grown into the definition of barefoot luxury, offering suites and private villas across 10 waterfront acres. The sailing yacht has also been traded up for a classic 114-foot Benetti motoryacht, Star of the Sea . Up to 12 guests can soak up the yacht’s vintage styling on day trips or multi-day charters to chic neighboring islands Mustique and Canouan.

‘Escape,’ W Maldives, Maldives

From its home base, the heart-shaped W Maldives resort island, Escape roams the crystalline waters of the North Ari Atoll. Styled like a traditional two-masted gullet, the 78-foot motorsailor first set sail in the Indian Ocean in 2022. Leisurely top speeds of eight knots keep the pace perfect for snorkeling and diving day trips, relaxed afternoons resting on the expansive sundeck, or even a romantic proposal. ‘Vision,’ Rosewood Little Dix Bay, British Virgin Islands

The island hideaway built by Laurance Rockefeller in the 1960s, Little Dix Bay in Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands, has hosted royalty and celebrities over the years. Now part of the Rosewood Hotels & Resorts family, the resort has lost none of its secluded allure with suites and villas concealed from prying eyes by a canopy of breezy palm trees. Vision is its 57-foot catamaran, tailor-made for dipping in and out of the BVI’s aquamarine bays. On private day sailings for just four people, you can launch onboard toys that include seabobs, kayaks, and inflatables. Private Paradise Villa, Cozumel, Mexico

Private Paradise Villa in Cozumel, with its luxury villas, 25-foot waterfalls, four theaters, and heated pools, not to mention butlers and private chefs, does not have its own yacht. But it does offer something more exceptional on the sailing catamaran that transports guests into the gin-clear waters of the adjoining Marine Park. As guests soak in the water after a snorkel or swim, a butler carries a tray of drinks and refreshments from the boat, displaying the ultimate in customized service. Four Seasons ‘Explorer,’ Palau

The 11-passenger Four Seasons Explorer , which was recently based in the Maldives between two resorts, will move next month to the even more pristine island nation of Palau, with 340 volcanic and coral islands. Rather than being connected to a Four Seasons resort, Explorer is the resort, offering spa services on board, or kayaking, paddle-boarding and surfing, and of course, exceptional cuisine. It’s also a Five-Star PADI dive center that offers exceptional diving and snorkeling. Sites like German Channel offer manta rays and reef shark as well as healthy coral reefs, while the Peleliu Wall has caves and canyons, with marine life like pygmy killer whales and silvertip sharks. From his rooftop restaurant Lux Lucis, atop the Hotel Principe Forte dei Marmi , chef Valentino Cassanelli’s Michelin-starred Italian fare comes with a side of sweeping Tyrrhenian Sea views. Cassanelli also plates up his cuisine at sea, with a carefully prepared menu designed for guests who charter the five-star hotel’s yacht, Marina di Principe , for the day. As the 78-foot Mazarin yacht speeds between the Tuscan coast and Portofino or Cinque Terre, you can feast on dishes such as Risotto with fresh sea urchins and Tuscan black truffle, and Grilled turbot with bbq aubergine and rhubarb. La Guérite Restaurant, Cannes, France

La Guérite Cannes on the island of Sainte-Marguerite is like a private sanctuary that provides a nice respite from the bustling city on the French Riviera. Diners can choose to look back at Cannes or out to the pristine blue Med.
