Zodiac Dinghy

Our Zodiac Deluxe Dinghy is available for rental with charters and for individual lessons. The 15-foot long dinghy is powered by an 25hp outboard Yamaha motor. Ask us for more details about a dingy rental.

Captain Jim Dempsey is available for hire to provide captain’s lessons to new boaters. He is also available to captain your own vessel or transport vessels. He is a U.S. Coast Guard licensed 100-ton master captain with more than 20 years of boating experience.

You do not need boat insurance when renting with Boatsetter. Coverage is provided under the Peer-to-Peer Boat Rental Policy, which is underwritten by GEICO Marine Insurance Company. The policy was written from the ground up as a stand-alone recreational boat rental insurance policy covering the period of time that the boat is being rented and is available for all non-commercially insured boats.

Does Boatsetter screen renters?

Yes. We use a system called Cognito to ensure that payment information matches the renter's identity. We also require renters taking out a captained boat to be at least 18 years old and on a bareboat to be at least 25 years old.

Is listing my boat on Boatsetter free?

Yes! Listing a boat is completely free. We only take a commission when your boat is rented. We only make money when you do!

What if I'm not comfortable having a renter drive my boat?

If you are not comfortable having a renter drive your boat, we have an expansive network of licensed and experienced captains. Once your boat is listed, you can filter through our network of captains and favorite captains in your area that you would like to operate your boat.

"Valkyrie" is a 56 foot Oyster Yacht. Oyster Yachts are the top of the line, most luxurious production yachts in the world. She has a large shaded cockpit, a spacious teak deck for enjoying the sun, and swim platform for swimming at anchor. Her interior is solid cherry wood with a teak and holly floor. She has heat/AC, hot water, and any other comfort of home. Being a larger yacht, she offers a much smoother, faster, and much more enjoyable ride than that of smaller vessels. Her size and over 50,000 pound displacement means she can go out when other boats are stuck at the dock.

Meet Karl W. Sooy

Expect the best with Captain Karl, a seasoned veteran who has logged 200,000+ nautical miles on the Great Lakes and New England’s Coastline. He served with the U.S. Coast Guard, piloting vessels and yachts ranging from 18’ to 60’. While serving in the Coast Guard on the Cutter Sundew, he logged hundreds of miles on the Great Lakes. He also was stationed at the U.S. Coast Guard Station in Woods Hole, MA, where he conducted search and rescue and law enforcement missions. This is where Karl further expanded his knowledge of vessel safety, navigation, boat handling, and heavy weather search and rescue. In addition, he obtained his USCG 100-ton Master Captain’s license along with a towing endorsement.

It is true, Great Lakes Boat Charters serves our customers by providing a comfortable and safe boat, removing the requirement of boating experience, and providing destination and activity ideas (plus all the equipment)…all delivered at a fraction of the cost real boat ownership.

But that is not what we are about.

The idea and drive to start our company came from the many years of family members and friends sharing their time and their boats with our family. With the gift of time to reflect on our boating experience, we came to realize the many blessings in sharing time together on the water  cruising,  swimming, trying out new watersports, fishing and island hopping all summer long.

• There may be street parking available in Canalside on Llyod Street, Hanover Street or Prime Street.  There are two lots under the Skyway along Pearl Street, Commercial Street and Marine Drive.  There are also parking spots on these same streets.  Parking is also available in the LECOM Harborcenter parking ramp.  There may be a charge for parking.

DO NOT BRING COOLERS, LARGE DUFFLE BAGS OR TOTE BAGS.  DO NOT BRING YOU OWN BEVERAGES. We have a liquor license.  Due to strict guidelines from the New York State Liquor Authority all beverages must be purchased from Spirit of Buffalo. If you are booking for a group please inform your guests of this policy. Failure to comply will result in an immediate return to the dock and termination of the cruise/charter.  No refunds will be given.

• All drivers of Power boats must be 21 years old. 
• Reservation Required
• Alcohol allowed, except the driver
• Dogs allowed, Our Barletta Cabrio Pontoon has a built in dog bowl.
• Any person born after 1981 must have a boaters license or pass a test to obtain a 24 hour temporary boaters license. We offer a temporary license and testing at no charge. You can also use the link below to take an ODNR approved Ohio boating license course to get a permanent boating license. 
• All Waivers must be completed. Waivers can be completed online or onsite.

Cancellation Policies

• Cancel anytime up to 48 hours prior to your rental by emailing us at [email protected]
• Weather Policy - The weather forecast is impossible to predict and changes by the hour. We make weather determinations around the time of your rental. Light - Moderate rain is not a dangerous condition. Wind, waves, thunder, and lightning are dangerous conditions.
• If we have to cancel your reservation due to weather or foreseen circumstances, we will work with you to rebook your reservation or issue a full refund.
• If weather interrupts your rental, we will issue a gift card for the time the weather interrupted your rental. 
• If it's raining and you do not want to go out, we can issue you a gift card.
• Late-arrivals will be charged the full price. NO REFUNDS.
• - No-shows will be charged the full price. NO REFUNDS.

Security Deposit

a $500 security deposit will be collected prior to departure. It will be refunded in 24 hours providing the boat is returned in the same condition it was sent out.

PLEASE NOTE: ONLY MAJOR CREDIT CARDS ACCEPTED. It may take your bank 2-3 days to resolve the funds after the refund. You can pay the $500 security deposit in cash as well, but we still need major credit card on file.

If you return late you will be charged overtime charges. Overtime charges are 2x your rental rate prorated in 30 minute increments. If the NS-1 bridge delays your return, give us a call and you will not be charged overtime charges.

Boating Safety

• Maintaining safe speed/monitor surroundings/drive defensively/no aggressive maneuvers 
• Maintaining a safe distance from other boats, objects and people 
• Do not enter the water without a lifejacket on, engine turned off and key removed 
• Conduct a head count before starting the engine 
• Always remain seated while the boat is in motion 
• Absolutely no sitting on the bow, sides or stern 
• Importance of attaching the engine shut-off cord/lanyard 
• Engine start and shut-off procedures 
• Dangers of CO2 
• Refueling procedures and engine blower use (if applicable) 
• Sound five blasts of the horn or whistle to signal danger or need for assistance 
• Boats do not have brakes – stopping the engine will not stop the boat 
• Proper boat anchoring procedures (if applicable) 
• Navigation rules – local laws, regulations, hazards and navigational markers 
• Towing sports are not allowed

The wilderness lodge sits on a private estate and has 20 guest rooms for short-term and extended stays. All accommodations have a fun theme, such as the Mary Poppins Room and the Robin’s Nest Room, and include a private firepit. You can also enjoy the on-site restaurant and pub or listen to live music on the patio. 15. Twin Lakes Recreation Area

Twin Lakes is popular with campers for its swimming beaches and fishing piers. The overnight and day campsites at Twin Lakes Recreation Area make a great spot for nature lovers and family camping trips. The area is accessible and has paved roads. Hikers and backpackers can trek nearby on the Mill Creek Trail and Twin Lakes Trail. The area also hosts community events and live music performances, so don’t miss out!
